  • mind if I join in on your fun ?!?!?

I have been reading your posts for the past few weeks and you are all so supportive of one another. Plus you all have the same goal as I do... give these extra 100 lbs. a new home... good ridance !!

I use to post frequently on another group, but it seems to be dwindling away, plus I have not been posting for the past few months and I have been busy with work and then most recently studying for a big exam that I have coming up next week.

Weight loss has definately been on the back burner for the past few months, but after next week I will have more ME time and I can get serious again and send these extra lbs. to the curb

Look forward to getting to know you all
  • Erin - I hope you have a safe trip home.

Hey girls I have been thinking and I believe we need a challange. What do you all think. I am not sure what type of challange but something to keep us on our toes and for us to report on everyday. Any ideas? Something we can all do and will help us stay motivated.

Well it is just an idea of you all do not like it just let me know.
  • Robbin- I agree...some little fun challenge would be cool. What one would be though, I have NO IDEA! Unfortunately, it's 4p on Friday, and I am spent... Plus, I am fighting the steroid induced headache (last pack thank GOD!) and the sweltering heat in my office (where we keep it hot in the summer and cold in the winter???)

Louie- Looking forward to getting to know you! Maybe you can come up with some fun challenge?? Call it an initiation...LOL!!
  • Hi Everybody . . .

We have had an absolutely gorgeous day. . . Alberto passed through overnight and left sunshine, warm temperatures, and absolutely no humidity behind him . . . although, since the light fixture in my computer room started to leak around bedtime last night, I think he might have taken a couple of my shingles with him, too. Wonder what will happen the next time it rains.

Well, I don't know about the rest of you, but I am very concerned about Tina. It just is not like her to get so busy that she wouldn't just drop in to say at least "HI" in the past 6 days. She has always been so avid a poster. Also concerned about Lois. It has been weeks since we heard from her. I know she had computer problems but I would have thought they would be fixed by now, but no sign of her this month.

Hi Robsia . . . You have been busy. Your new site will be terrific. Hope the book is published soon. Now, is that your real name, or have you decided to make the Cavanagh Twins (Jill and Jacque) into triplets? Congratulations on getting rid of the extra holiday weight and then some. Not surprising, if course, since we all know how dedicated you are.

Hi Cheryl . . . So sorry about the stress this week. Hope things calm down soon. Congratulations for avoiding junk food, however you do it. My problem is that I can overdo it on the good food, too. Have a great car rally, but do try to stay cool.

Hi Ryanmi. . . Great news about your throat girl, even if you did have an asthma attack on the way by. At least you picked a good place for it. Whooppee . . . you'll be finished with the nasty steroids in no time.

Hi Robbin . . . How did things go with the Jury Duty? Are you back to normal again, or do you just have the weekend off? I don't know about everybody else, but I do terribly whenever I try to set myself a challenge. Guess my mind figures it has enough challenges just trying to keep heading in the right direction. I am good at cheering from the sidelines, though.

Hi Louie . . . Welcome aboard. Yep, everybody in here is definitely very caring and supportive and we'd love to have you along on the journey with us. Got a kick out of your comment about the activity on one of your former 'favourites', because it's been pretty quiet in here for a few weeks, too. Maybe it's the time of year. Hope we'll be seeing less of you, more often, kiddo.

Anyway, I'd better get about my business. Been pretty busy with the 'work-project' today and will have to spend a few more hours on it over the weekend . . . but after that, the majority of next week should be quiet.

Have a great day moving and shaking, gang. See you soon . . .
  • Well, I have never heard of the Cavanagh Twins - but, yes, that is my real name
  • Can I join in?
I stumbled upon this just kind of searching around.

I'm 34 years old (will be 35 next month) and need to lose 120 lbs. I'd love to have it happen quickly but I know it didn't get on my quickly so I might as well take my time losing it. My goal date is June 1, 2008...2 years...but I'm hoping it won't be that long! haha

Since I'm just starting out I'm sure I'll have tons of questions and you guys seem really sweet and supportive of one another. Just thought I'd like to be a part of the fun!

    Tricia
  • Robsia . . . No reason why you should know them. The name just caught my attention. Sorry, if I'm confusing. Sometimes, I just tend to think out loud.

Tricia . . . Welcome to the group, chickie. Think you will love it in here. You are definitely starting with the right attitude. Give yourself 2 years and anything shorter will be a pleasant surprise. The bottom line is that we all have to take the time to learn a new way of life. A 'diet' might work for those who need to get rid of 10 or so pounds, but it takes 'lifestyle' change to get rid of 10 times that amount. Go, girl, go. Here's hoping we'll be seeing less of you, more often.

Here's some to help us make it through the night, gang. See you tomorrow
  • LOUIE & TRICIA -- This is a wonderful group of girlies here!

I'm a little concerned with Tina, because it's very unlike her to go more than one day without posting atleast something!

ROBBIN -- What kind of challenge were you wanting to do? I have never joined in challenges before, because they always make me feel pressured and a little bit in a hurry, if that makes any sense.

I'm going to head for bed, because it has been a very long past two days. Hope everyone has a wonderful evening!
  • LINDA -- How is your migraines? So far, I haven't had any sign of a headache for a few days now.

CHERYL -- I am feeling much better doing my WATP again, but I wasn't able to do them the past two days, because my joints in my thighs were SO sore, but they are feeling better tonight and I will be back at them again tomorrow morning.

ERIN -- I'm sorry you have had to be away when your kids are sick. That would be very hard on a mommy! I'm so sorry for your loss, and pray that you have a very safe trip back home tomorrow.

TINA & LOIS -- PLEASE COME BACK...WE MISS YOU BOTH VERY MUCH!!!
  • hi y'all
well i see no-one missed me!!!
been a bit awol, been having a heatwave over here..its just way too hot to work outand theres been too much icecream eating and barbques on the beach to lose any weight oops
  • Good Morning and thank you for the warm welcoming

A few things about me.. I am 36, married, no kids, unless the furry kind count, in which case I have one dog. I live on the West Coast of Canada, work for the government and I am currently studying to become an accountant (I actually take my big national exam next week). About 6 years ago I lost a significant amount of weight, but then I reverted back to my "old ways" and here I am ready to take these lbs off for good. Like Tricia I am giving myself 2 years to do this right. I am hoping that it will happen quicker, but not going to set myself up to fail.

Michelle ~ glad to hear that your migraines have been leaving you alone. Enjoy doing your WATP, it really sounds like you love them.

Tricia ~ sounds like you and I will be travelling the same road together for the next few years

Meowee ~ hope the weather is still good out your way, we are having a light rain this morning and overcast skies.. which is just fine with me since I am stuck inside studying.

Ryanmi ~ an initiation challenge.. hmmmm... gotta put my thinking cap on for that one

Robbin ~ I think a challenge would be great. There seems to be lots of challenges going on on other boards, maybe we could "borrow" one of their ideas.

Erin ~ sorry to hear about the passing of your grandfather, but glad that you could be with your family

Well I am sure that I probably missed someone, but I will quickly get to know everyone. Hope you all have a fantastic day
  • LIZA... Sorry it is so hot there; I also hate the heat!

RYANMI... Love your pic! You're very pretty!

LOUIE... I was trying to set a goal for myself to lose weight and it was 'stressing' me out, so like yourself, I'm doing it 'One Day At A Time' and not holding any time limit over my head.
  • Hi everyone. Thanks for such a warm welcome.

Louie - Glad I'm not the only one just getting started on this! How did you get so quick at learning names?! You've already got everyone down. I'm going to have to start studying! haha

Everyone else - I'll learn...just give me a bit longer...

Question about Splenda...I am working really hard to give up processed foods and sweets in particular. I completely gave up all carbonated beverages about 1.5 months ago and am totally over any cravings for them. However, I find that I'm using Splenda occasionally in order to have something sweet. I always put it on my cereal in the mornings (if that's what I'm having for breakfast) and the sugar free peanut butter I bought is sweetened with it. Is this a good alternative to sugar or should I also be eliminating it?

    Have a great Saturday!!!

    Tricia
  • Good Morning all...

It is an oppressive 90+ degrees in Chicago-but a cool and comfy 68 degrees inside my house...Thank God for AC!!! I am actually being very lazy today and just catching up on some much needed rest...errands and chores can wait until early tomorrow morning! Besides, all of the new sales start on Sundays anyway...

Michelle-thank you so much for the compliment on my pic, and your very kind words. Guess I had never thought of posting a pic for an avatar until you commented on yours shrinking...sometimes I'm slow on the technical uptake...

Tricia... You and Louie aren't the only ones just getting started. I haven't been here that long myself, and gained back the weight I lost b/c I had to be on long-term steroids for a voice issue. Four days until I am off of those bad boys for good!!! WOO HOO!!!!! Anyway...in answer to your question about splenda...personally, I subscribe to the simple but effective method of counting calories and exercise, and take everything in moderation. I find that depriving myself of something I want/love never works-especially when I consider that I am making changes that I plan to stick with! So...I think Splenda and/or Nutrasweet are fine...****, I've even used sugar itself (16 cals per tsp) on occasion. I think the important thing is to make positive changes you can live with long term...As far as sweets go, I was never a huge fan, but I do enjoy the sugar-free Jello Pudding cups (60 cals) for a sweet treat, sugar free popcicles and fudge pops (15/40 cal ea)! Tina (wherever she is... ) got me on the low fat ice cream as well...I enjoy the Edys Double Churned Cookies and Cream (160 cal serving)!!! maybe some of the others can share their sweet fix ideas as well...I know everyone has their own!

Ok, I'm going to eat some cereal (with honey!) and maybe go back to bed for awhile! I'll check in later...
  • It's Saturday and it's sunny. Wow, the temperature is just about to my personal maximum but at least there's no humidity and there is a very pleasant breeze so I really don't mind a bit.

Hi Michelle . . . I've been pretty headache free for a few days too and it is wonderful. Another new avatar picture and it's lovely, girl.

Hi Liza . . . Of course we missed you, but you have to admit you've been doing a lot of popping off to ???? places of late so we don't really know how to predict your pattern anymore. Sorry to hear it's so hot. I can understand how you've been feeling, I hate it too. Hope we see you more regularly.

Hi Louie . . . Of course the furry ones count. My 3 cats remind me of just how much they count at least 10 times a day. You and Tricia may be the newest of the group, but at my magnificent rate of losing, I'll be here with you for the duration, never fear.

Hi Tricia . . . Never fear, you'll figure us all out in due time. As the resident diabetic, I'm a devotee of Splenda. For me, it's one of the greatest inventions ever, since you can actually bake and cook with it. I say, go for it so long as your body can tolerate it.

Now, the peanut butter is another one of the things I can't keep in the house. Regular, or low fat, or sugar free . . . doesn't matter to me, I can still eat it by the jarful . . . and of course, I need lots of toast to put under it . . . you can see where this leads, eh? So . . . no peanut butter for me, I'm afraid . . . at least not for a long, long time.

My very favourite little 'sweet treat' is lemon FF/SF jello, made the usual way but then mix in a cup of FF/SF yogurt after the jello has cooled, but not thickened yet, and then put it back in the fridge to set. Top with a blob of cool whip . . . reminds me of lemon meringue pie . . . yum . . . for about 50 calories per serving.

Hi Ryanmi I agree with Michelle . . . that's a great picture. so sorry you've got such a hot spell, but it's definitely a good day to relax inside with the A/C and dream of all the good times to come when this last round of steroids are finished.

Yep . . . those fudgcicles and popsicles are great . . . I like the dreamcicles too at only 27 calories. YAY for artificial sweeteners . . . sure there's some controversy . . . but sometimes your mental health just has to rule.

Have a great evening, girls. Keep on moving and shaking and heading in the great downward direction. See you soon.
