In like a lion, out like a cow
We're almost to March! Where does the time go?
:moo: :moo: :moo: :moo: :moo: :moo: :moo: |
Miz Cherry, it sounds like you've had some challenges lately. Nothing like a flooding basement to make your day. The next house we have will not have a basement. If it does, DH says he's calling in a cement truck to fill it up. Life sure does get in the way of our good fitness intentions, doesn't it?
I think you'd need to read Bleak House first to be able to understand what's going on. Dicken's books are usually too complex w/ too many story lines to cram into a tv production. Plus, they were trying to get very artsy w/ all the camera angles and such, which added to the confusion. I do tend to love a good Jane Austen story, though. I watched Sense and Sensibility yesterday evening, w/ Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant. Kiwonk, Do you find it a bit surreal that the high school kids are using your former clothes as costumes for a play? It wasn't really that long ago was it? I have no cat advice, Bagzie. You know I'm a dog person. Dogs will do just about anything for a Milkbone. What's the cat equivalent to Milkbones? Cat nip? I don't mind anyone telling me how adorable Kayden is, no matter how many times I hear it, so I had no problem w/ your repeating email. :dizzy: |
Marching. or lumbering cow-like
Bagz, you can REmail me any time, it makes me chuckle.
Hi Cherry, I can sympathize. I'm sure I should be doing something else right now, I wonder what it is... Wabby, are you getting to see the little one every day or thereabouts? My SIL whose new grandbaby is 2 months lives about an hour away from them. I know it's just killing her not to see them all the time. This hasn't been the greatest winter for driving back and forth either (lot of ice). My nephew and his wife are both back to work now I think, doing different shifts. I know they had some babysitting holes to fill in, and SIL had wanted to help them out, but I don't think it worked out because of the drive. :( I have to go to a school board meeting tonight. Whoopdedoo. I don't plan to open my mouth. Just be a body, supporting the performing arts contingent. DD's show choir competition is 2 days from now. I haven't seen the performance yet. Yeah, it's weird to see her dragging out my old clothes, but she's been wearing stuff of mine for years. She actually outgrew the hip-hugger jeans I mentioned (in height, not girth). At least that's what she says. As skinny as she is, that doesn't seem possible. Gotta go pretend to function normally as a human being. Kiwi |
Kiwi, my mom always said hang on to your old clothes...they all come back in fashion...like aren't those low rise jeans, our hip huggers? And Wedgie shoes are back from the 40s and 70s... and babydoll tops..aren't they our old tunic tops ? I'm waiting for elephant bell bottoms to come back... then I'd be stylin (if I lose 40 pounds :dz:)
Wabby: Dog person here to ... food sluts.... |
That's the truth indeed, Schatzi. DD has always liked to beat a trend to the punch, and wearing 30 year old clothing seems to be one way to do it!
|
And I have no problem saying to all you moms and grammys out there.. that each of you is truly blessed! So brag and post away and send as many pics as you want... :)

HOW DID WE GET TO BE GRANNIES??????????? I THOUGHT WE WERE HOTTIES---FRESH SAUSAGES JAMMED INTO OUR JEANS---------WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA----WABBY IS A COOL GRAM AND THAT IS THAT!!!-----CAT IS STILL UNDER THE FLOORBOARDS---why in **** didn't we close off that hole under the tub----CAUSE WE ARE A BUNCH OF LAZY SLOBS--------DH JUST BROUGHT HOME SOME CANNED CAT FOOD----IT MIGHT TEMPT HER OUT----------------------BLAHHHHHHHHHHHH
|
Elephant bell bottoms? I probably had some of those and didn't know it. I used to wear halter tops too. Sheesh.
Not only did we eat pancakes, my biggest baby turned 13 today! Pretty scary having a teenager in the house. He was suitably surly when he got up this morning. |
what are you all talking about? elephant pants? dog people? sausages?
I am home all day and refuse to leave. My success is that I've done the squeaky wheel thing HOPEFULLY will have money to pay for all this school stuff. They advertise it as SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE then say they're waiting for the O.K. to give out the money. Time passes. I pay and get broker. More things to pay. More. and More. They still are waiting for the O.K. But I have written my congressman, the woman in charge of helping women students and the woman who deals with students in this program and they think they MAY be able to get money for MEEEEEEE. Just me. Only b*tchy old me. Fine. |
old *****y people deserve scholarships too----if that is the case,we are all in line for a couple---haaaaaaa--------the cat is STILL under the floor===tonight i am having dh start hauling up floorboards===what an effin pain in the arse-=---stupid cat.

Hi cowsies. I took yesterday off work and took beautiful roses to my sis who just had her eye surgery. It looks like it might take some time for recovery. Poor girl. Then I went to visit my darlin' Kayden. Her momma and I took her for her first stroll around the neighborhood. It was a beautiful sunny day and she slept through the entire walk. We scoped out the play structure at the park by their house. We have big plans.
Sugar, your baby can't possibly be a teenager. Wasn't he just a preschooler yesterday? Back in the messies days? Cat out yet, Bagz? Old b*tchy ppl definitely deserve scholarships. |

Kiwi as door bouncer--gotta love it.. make sure you are b*tchy and dooo wear some retro elephant sausages...will there be a audio file of Jazz fest? Please post if so darlin..
Wabby on Cloud nine! I hope your sister recoops quickly  to you and a pinch on the cheek fer KK.. Peachetta: how absolutely SCHMAHT of you! :cp: I'm sure there is $$$ fer old squeaky wheels! :crossed: I've been busy interviewing all morning /afternoon... waiting on a telephone interview now.. and more of the same tomorrow... while this gets me back to honing my charming interviewing skills --none of these jobs appeal to me.. some are tooooo hard and will make my brain work toooooooooooo much...others are just demanding tooooooo much ... and as an ex-HR person, some of the questions they've asked are downright borderline illegal or leave me dumbfounded: how the **** do you respond to : We need someone to bring some New York energy to this project- and so tell us about how you can bring that?.. WHAT THE **** DOES THAT MEAN?? Ifelt like I shoulda slipped into my heavy bronx axcent and slapped him upside the head... At least I am wearing sensible shoes ... |
it seems to me you are all *****ing so I am gonna join. Yesterday and other recent days people are annoying me too oooo ooo much. I had to go get fingerprinted. I've never had decent fingerprints and when I worked for a bank years ago they made me get fingerprinted at least four times before they gave up. So here I go to get fingerprinted for the school system and the same problem. The woman doing this (sequined top with two sequins missing on left shoulder) said, "This happens when you get older. Your fingerprints wear off." She said THAT several times. Let me paraphrase: "You are an old bat and you are wearing away." I went home and looked on the net and found that this defect is hereditary OR caused by hard work. In fact, there's some high number (40 percent ???) of the Most Wanted People in the world who have these fingerprints because they wore them down, I guess, not because they're OLD. The article said that even if they were in custody, it's unlikely anyone would know from the fingerprints.
and this program is supposed to have financial aid and they have come up with some for ME but that woman has said to me SEVERAL TIMES, "I went over there and groveled." Do you use grovel in your speech? Anyhow after hearing this 6 times, I said, "I think I'm the one who's groveling." Later, I emailed her thanking her for her efforts and apologizing if it put her in an uncomfortable situation. But isn't GROVELING a negative kind of word to use in reference to a plan that's promised by the school and not fulfilled unless one GROVELS? Then there's the mechanic. DS drove his car in working fine. Got an oil change. Drove out not working fine. They wanted to charge him $69.95 to check this out on their computer. Computer: thing you plug into the engine, hold in your hand, and look at. I told them to give him back his car as our other mechanic did this computer thing FOR FREE. They did. He took it to a 3rd mechanic who fixed it for a decent price that did not include $69.95 computer looking at. Plus, the first mechanic would not accept his check. He was insulted. Ok, that's about it. Is Bagz's floor up? Is kitty safe? Can Kiwi make DH stuff envelopes? Does Shots have a pin-striped suit and violin case for the next interview with these jerks? Has Sugarette taken on proper teenage attitudes like rolling eyes? Must go. Cash register awaits. |
Hmmmm. I'm trying to get in the spirit around here and b*tch about something. Let me think..... sun is shining, it's friday, I have a new granddaughter, I have fun plans w/ a couple girlfriends tomorrow, my house is somewhat clean, my husband is on my good list lately, ..... geez. I'm fresh outta gripes.
However, I can still commiserate w/ everybody else's...... d*mn ppl insinuating that your fingerprints are old, Peach, we know you've filed them down to escape the law..... d*mn paranoid cat, Bagz...... d*mn interviewer, Schatz, don't they know you're in the Carolinas to escape the New York energy, which as we all know is nervous breakdown kinda energy..... did that cover everyone? any other ppl wanna b*tch? :rollpin: |
Gonna have a hard time *****in' too, but I'll help Schatzi:
Originally Posted by Schatzi: The door monstering went fine, although it was rather tiring sitting/standing there for 5 hours. He was a band kid; I remember him from the bus last week, but didn't know his name. During every performance when I was sitting outside the auditorium by the closed doors (half of them I was inside), he wandered by and said something funny or just said hello. After a couple of hours, he seemed to have been awarded a weapon of sorts: a big broom handle with a tennis ball skewered on the bottom end. I gave him a hard time; he gave me a hard time; he went on about his business, whatever it was. Later I learned that the tennis ball was for cleaning up black scuff marks off linoleum! Well, I wish I could upload an audio file. We did take video last night, but I've never tried making an audio file with that; I'm not sure I can. I've always wanted to make a video copy of some of DD's performances to share with you all, but I can't do it online -- we don't have the computer power or bandwidth to upload video. Anyway, the performance was simply astonishing. I honestly didn't expect anything anywhere near as good. The kids just did the most amazing job, it absolutely brought the house down and much of the audience was in tears when it was over. I suppose it helped that they crucified the really cute guy the day after Ash Wednesday... The way this thing goes is that several schools come and bring their show choirs or jazz choirs and they compete for a rating, which could be 1, 2, or 3. If they get a 2 or 1, they go on to the state competition. They also get comments and scores on different aspects of the performance from the 2 judges, and each individual solo is rated as well. Our show choir got a 1 rating and the highest total score of the day -- although we are one of the smaller schools participating. Our high school has hosted this district competition for the past 3 years; that's why I'm always working in it. DD's solo was beautiful; she did the Mary Magdalene one where she sings "Everything's Alright" to Jesus. Her friend (that you met, Peachie) did the other Mary Magdalene one "I Don't Know How to Love Him", which was much longer and more demanding -- and she totally surprised herself by doing it perfectly and beautifully. She's never been too sure of herself on these things, so it was great to see her really nail it. The guy who played Jesus is the same kid that came over and "murdered" DD for the student film the other night, but ironically he seemed to be a perfect Jesus... He had several solos of course, and they were excellent and very moving. DD's bf on piano and a kid on drums were the musical backup and got almost perfect scores. He and DD did almost all of the music arrangements. The dancing was excellent. The local dance teacher did the choreography and I thought it was great. And the choral parts were really good too. Ever sing while you danced? I don't think I could do it. I saw some of my old clothes up there on stage. One girl was wearing my daishiki. Oh, I can come up with a complaint. But I think I will save it for another post. Kiwi |
Here's my complaint: I didn't want to post it in the same message as my last one, just in case there are local readers who might infer who I'm talking about.
I had a lengthy, and I do mean lengthy encounter with someone with the worst breath it's ever been my horror to come across. It was vile, it was pervasive and it spread for several feet in every direction. And I couldn't get away. I can still sort of smell it now and then a day later in a sort of phantom way. I may never be the same. |
Bleeeehhhh.

I accept your jealousy, Bagz. A semester in Scandinavia sounds quite delightful. Hope it's not the dead of winter when she goes. Hey, you could come to Maine on a, hmm, buying trip? and see her perform! Actually we are going to be in Caribou next weekend, but that's not for music, it's the one act play she's in.
Cool news for next summer. I have my doubts that it will actually happen, but DD's friends are contemplating all coming to the beach with us. She usually brings M, the sweetheart who did the lovely solo last night, and we share a rental house with my parents and sis and her family. M's parents have a timeshare they're not using and they found out that they might be able to trade for a week at the same beach we go to. So it would be very cheap for the kids, just the trip down and food and so on. My mother will probably have heart failure at the thought of 8 teenagers hanging around all day! We brought an extra girl with us summer before last and I swore I'd never do that again. Too crowded and too much drama. But in this case all 8 kids would stay at the condo, freeing up a room for my sister's kids. I think it would be perfect. Senior trip!! Yes, it would be coed. And a month later they'll all be in coed dorms probably, so I think I'm already over that. And don't worry, we'll stop at Schatzi's for a couple of days on the way... I call shotgun! Kiwi |
Winter in Scandanavia would be MARVELOUS cause you can see those lights in the sky. What're they called? Everyone would be drunk and Bagz would be happy happy happy.
Our customers are either grumpy Canadians or happy spring breakers. All the grumpy ones really are women. They watch the register and act like you're about to pocket the money you're cheating them out of. Men you could charge for three lbs. of apples when they only bought one orange and they'd never notice. I want to go to Shotsy's also. I will bring fried chicken. |
Phantom bad breath! :faint: :faint: :faint:
I love it! Well, actually, I hate it. But it cracked me up. Eeew. Can't post now. It's dh's birthday today. I must go attend to the cheesecake. ds13 birthday party tomorrow. They are going to sit in our guest room and watch Wayne's World and Wayne's World 2, two of the best movies ever made. Right? I :running: 3 miles yesterday. |

Hello! Kiwi, it sounds like you all had a great time! I love that show!
I'm still plugging away... I figured out what's wrong with my knee. Iliotibial band syndrome. I've had problems with that hip for a long time, since I tried to run the Worst Marathon in the World. I'm icing and stretching and trying to fix it so I can get back into exercise. For now, I'm swimming and water-jogging. Nothing else exciting is happening now. The kid who's barely passing high school managed to get 31 average on his ACT. I knew he would. The other one is spending the weekend doing the project he put off for the past two months. My kids are so motivated. We've been spending the past two weeks trying to get a new car. My Forester broke two weeks ago. I think we finally decided on a Saturn Vue. I really hate car-shopping, though. Really hate it. The salesmen are evil weasels and all of the car companies are doing ugly colors this year. Blech. |
Ew, I hate car shopping too. Some of the salesmen need to be hung by their ***** and thrashed with a rusty pipe. We still thumb our noses at the Toyota dealership when we go by for the way they treated us 20 years ago when I was looking for my first (only) new car (we bought a SAAB, they actually seemed to want to sell us one). Apparently though, the only thing worse than buying from a dealer is buying from a private person -- we got our first Explorer from a dealer and it was excellent until DH totalled it. Then we got another one from a classified ad, nothing but problems since. Blah.
I'm not familiar with the ACT scoring. How does that compare as a score? Good luck with the knee. Joints are such a pain. It's a beautiful :sunny: sunny day here. Do I have to go do something ~shudder~ active? Kiwi |
Hi Kiwi!
I'm not sure what the equivalent score would be in SAT, but it's about 97th percentile. It's good enough for him to get free money from the state for going to any college in the state. I have a midterm to finish and we're going to try to go to the pool for a couple of hours this afternoon. Gotta get to work! Enjoy the sun! |

Unfortunately I burned part of the 2nd batch. Touchy little things. Well, that's my exciting day. Kiwi |
one minute kiwi claims it's snowing then she says it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. let's keep an eye on that nose and see if it's growing.
my feet are getting used to holding me up. I had 2 interesting people today BAGZZZZZ: First I had to get a woman's license number because she wrote a check. She didn't carry it around but recited the number. I told her she'd have to tell me twice but when we got to the second time, she couldn't say it again. She tried and tried and got madder and madder and seemed to blame me because not used to having to say it twice!1 Her dh kind of pushed her asdide and used his credit card. Then spring breakers! Three boys bought so much beer it made a mountain on the converyer belt. When I got done with the beer it was followed by the rest of their sustenance .. a mountain of pop tarts. |
haaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!! that was good peach---NOW can't you see why we are not worried about your DS!!! he eats MUCH better food with less beer!!---and imagine not being able to lie about your licence twice in a row---what a slacker!!! also----in THESE parts!!! a nice day can include SNOW---when you have a nice snow and then it's sunny---it is a BEAUTIFUL site to behold----i am watching the oscars now---i could use some nice crunchy dog biscuits to snack on!!

Hi Cows! Sounds like everyone had a loverly weekend -- except I don't recall Painty or Schatzi reporting in.
This has been my morning so far - DH called me and told me he'd accidently put my keys in his pocket, so I had no way into the shop. I drove out to a jobsite our guys are working at and none of them had keys with them -- only one of them had left a key in his truck, which was back at the shop --- I drove back to the shop, found the key in his truck, then when I went to let myself in, I discovered that they had gone off and left our business unlocked!!!!!! Everything was left wide open. The computers are still here and the cash box still has money and I don't think any equipment has walked away. Geez. I wonder how many ppl came in, wandered around and left. Peachers, that lady could be me - I know my license #, but I have to recite it really quickly to get it out right. I also know my Social #, but don't ask me for the last 4 digits of it, because that screws me up and then I have to write the entire thing out to remember. Beer and poptarts are 2 of the most important food groups for spring breakers. I'm so happy that Crash won for best picture -- I think it was a very important movie that seemed to get overlooked by lots of ppl... maybe more ppl will watch it now. It was one of those movies that made you think long after you watched it. I think I'll buy the DVD and watch it again. I visited my Kayden again on Sunday --- I bought her her very first baby doll. She didn't seem to get too excited over it -- in fact she slept the entire time I was visiting her, not that I let that stop me from holding her. DH and I traded back and forth the whole time we were there. I kinda like car shopping, Cherry. Especially the time I went and bought that truck for DH for a Christmas present. I knew exactly the truck I wanted, I called the dealer ahead of time, agreed on a price over the phone, then when I got there, when they tried to raise the price, I told them I didn't have to buy a truck and I started to leave and then they suddenly went back to the agreed upon price. It was kind of empowering. especially because I'd never bought anything big like that w/o DH. and it was really fun when we pulled into the driveway on Christmas eve and it was sitting there w/ a big bow on it, and DH actually cried he was so happy..... or maybe it was because he got the payment book... heee...... good for DS on the great ACT score .... and boo on having knee and hip problems. P-nut butter biscuits sound kinda good Kiwi---of course, just about everything sounds kinda good to me... anyone have Pasta w/ Vodka Sauce? I have a new recipe, but I hate to waste a whole cup of vodka on it if I'm not going to like it... I worked in the yard on Sunday and I'm hurtin' now. I fought w/ a huge old rose on my arbor and it almost won. |

I mean not that she was an oaf or anything, but she was definitely not some little porcelain child. Sheesh. She was a neat eater though -- she had a friend who was such a mess when she ate that it was kind of astonishing. I mean the kid was totally sweet and cute but when you put food in front of her it would end up smeared from here to kingdom come! What were you saying? I think I got off track... I've had pasta with vodka sauce. Sauce from a jar, and also I think I've had it in a restaurant. I'll tell you, the one from the jar had a sort of bitter taste I think. I didn't care for it and neither did DH. I think the one from the restaurant was much better. :dunno: Those guys really have a way of sending you on a wild goose chase, don't they? Do you suppose DH intended just to tell you about keys and leave the store open for you? You'd think he'd say something, huh? Go figure. I can understand the fun of buying your DH a truck, but I wouldn't know which truck I'd want and I wouldn't be able to come to a satisfactory price and I'd always feel screwed. That's me. And good for you for not being that way. So anyway, we finally get snow and then it starts warming up and I think the snow is going to be gone by tomorrow or so. Guess I ought to take advantage of it while it's here. You know I still have ants? About half of them turn up dead, which I find inexplicable. One minute there are none on the floor and next minute there's a dead one. How do they get there if they're dead? Sometimes I think they're falling out of the ceiling. Which is entirely possible with the state of our kitchen ceiling. God what a dump. Kiwi |

Wabby: I love penne pasta in Vodka sauce too.. I tried the Emeril brand and hated it.. Didn't taste anything like the kind you get in the restaurants... Bleah Helllllo Cowie, Bagz, Cherry and Sug... I have nothing new to report. I've been playing in the dirt getting the garden ready, and that's about all... |
i feel so sad for Dana Reeve's son--poor thing is only a young teen and now both of his parents are gone---how did she die so fast??? very sad:?: :?:
|
Clearly I am a moron, but who are you talking about?
Oh never mind, I just read the news article. Wow. That sux. I am bathing my dog. As we speak. Okay, I'm paying someone else to do it. I don't think I can actually get her entirely wet anymore with the measley spray attachment I've been using, she's got so much hair. Getting lots of undercoat and it needs to be thinned out a bit. The good news is that if she should fall in the water by mistake, she won't get totally soaked for a while :dizzy: It's another beautiful sunny day. As long as you don't look at the ground, which has gone from sparkling white to white patches mixed with mud. Tata, cowsies. Kiwi |
Hey! wait a minute.... I was gone all day yesterday and that's all the posts I have to come back too???? where have all the cows gone??
Come back and tell me all about your gardening, Schatzi. That's what I did yesterday too. In the pouring rain. yech. I think my annual spring fever is starting up. I've got all my roses pruned, and all the beds have had the once over, but need more detailed work. My pond is the thing that's really in bad shape, but I just can't force myself to work on it until the weather warms up. We're still in the 50's with rain, rain, rain. I also went to the eye dr. and he wants to do a lazer treatment for glaucoma. It has a 70% success rate and then I wouldn't have to use eye drops for about 5 years. I'm still trying to decide if I want to do it. I do hate to always remember the drops so I just might. Bagzie, that is so sad. Also sad that she went through so much since her husband had the accident, just to have more tragedy. Kiwi, I need to take my doggies in for a bath too. Wouldn't it be great to have a dog wash set up at home? Everyone should have one. Is Jett just one big ball of fluff now? |
Wabby, my father-in-law had that done and he LOOOVES it. One of my professors also had that done. He says he didn't realize how bad it had gotten and how much it affected his mood and ability to get things done.
One of the things they keep talking about with Dana Reeve is that lung cancer is usually pretty far along by the time it's typically discovered. And how could she have known-- she wasn't even a smoker. I think that that disease is demonized, too, because of the way Americans moralize about health issues. Too much blame. Other cancers get more attention because they're not someone's "fault." Sigh. Must go. I did a weight tape yesterday. Yay! Hope to have time to do it again tomorrow. Did you see the study about weight training cutting waist fat? Sign me up! |

I think I need to reinstall Antivirus. >cough< >cough< I hope I'm not infected with anything. :s: Kiwi |
