It's 2pm here, not sure if I was missed, but I sure missed you.
Company shotdown is comming up and today our boss took us for Lunch. I am glad she picked a sushi place, though my choices were semi-good. I did have some tempura. If all works on Friday I am going up to Lake Tahoe. NO skiing but may be some cross contry ski or just playing in the snow. Food and challenge behaviour have been really bad. Mainly because I've not gone to the gym. Why? I feel like I cannot push myself. I am still strong and the other day even after taking a tiny piece of chocolate I looked at it and w/o remorse threw it into the trash. Felt good...seriously, I wanted to grab all of the chocolate in the office and throw it away. Strange me. The water challenge is the only challenge I was doing really well on. I am starting to even crave water, one thing though it is uncomfortable as I have to leave the meetings several times a day to go use the restroom. Challenge A( 3 bottles of water): Level 2 (-2) - DAY 16 (Dec 20) Challenge C( no food after 7pm): Level 3 (-3) - DAY 15 (Dec 20) Challenge B( daily gym - 1h, or some other major physical activity no less than 3 hours): Level 3 (-0) - I don't know when I will start. I am hoping if I do go to Tahoe, I will be active and outside full days, so I can then start my challenge and continue when I return. Thank you for all the warm birhtday wishes. I am very fortunate to have found all of you.... Happy Holiday wishes if I do not talk before the holidays. |
day 16! :) 1211 calories AND today was my christmas party at work... i am so proud of myself ... No cake, no candy, no cookies... and believe me there were a lot of tempting things!!! :)
p.s. Red your kitty is sooooooo cute! |
This is the resident grouch speaking:
Apparently I am allowed to get stuck in and dish it out - so I probably will!!!
Curly - you are a star. All things going on around you and you keep on keeping on. CBETA - there are times when you just feel that you can't carry on any longer. Sometimes it is because the body has just taken enough and refuses to carry on. When that happens to me, I just set a new date a couple of days into the future to go back to it. I had one of these sessions about 2 weeks back and I took 4 days off the gym, then pushed back into it. That works for me. Red - sounds funny to me that you weren't able to look at the luxury and feel the quality - how are you supposed to give a good report if you don't know what you are looking for? Here, they take the travel reporters in, quarter them over night, ply them with food and drink and then dare them to say something bad!!!! Love the pics. Lucky Nozomi. She found you to look after her. She looks well enough now. I've fallen off the challenge again. But not badly - just not thinking straight, only I don't have a pause day left so sliding down the snakes and back to square one. Too bad. After Christmas will see me back in the groove again. I think I posted some pictures here of the weekend trip to Tamborine and Currumbin. Now they are on the website so if you want to go see some beautiful birds, a croc or two or a koala up a gumtree, and the wicked witch of the east casting a spell or two, click this link. http://community.webshots.com/album/526442762KjOrFi and enjoy. The slideshow is the best way to view them. Gotta go. Morning tea is happening today. More food than you know what to do with. I shall be good. |
Alright you all are freakin me out just a bit. :p Some day I will learn what is tongue in cheek and what isn't. By the way DH tells me often that I have no sense of humor. Which is not exactly true, I just don't always think his jokes are funny.:D
|
Just checking in! :)
Finishing up day 17 on my no soda challenge!! Oh man, I didn't realize I was so close :carrot: :carrot: :carrot: ! I counted it twice to make sure!! I am at 552 min on my exercise goal of 800 min for December. I just gotta keep it going, and going, and going (energizer bunny) :ebike: (close enough LOL). Good luck all! :D Tina |
Hey Everyone!
What is everyone doing for the holidays? I'm going to my parent's house. They are surrounded by farms - it's reeeeally relaxing! My 3 sisters will be there (2 live in NY, 1 in Ohio) one with her boyfriend, one with her girlfriend and one with her cat! One of my sisters had surgery on Monday, so she will be in recovery. It's supposed to be a quick recovery though! She had a rod put in her leg about a year ago to help her with her hip problems. It was taken out on Monday. It's pretty cool! She has been dealing with problems with her hip since she was 12, this surgery seems to be the first thing that has worked! So far so good! What are everyone's holiday traditions? We eat a lot Christmas Eve night (not me this year!!)... then Santa puts our stockings on the ends of our beds in the middle of the night. Then one of my sisters (always the same one) wakes everyone up around 4 in the morning and makes us open our stockings together... tries to convince us to do presents that early :P. Then we open gifts and lounge for a while. Then my mom or I make breakfast for everyone. More eating, playing :) good stuff! Really exciting, huh? I'm definitly going to try to get my mobile sisters to walk to the neighbors to pet horses! Red - I figured that I ought to take down the recipes anyway - because although they are low-calorie, they are comparable to regular cookie. Eh :P well I posted them to the recipe area of the site! I figured you didn't really mind... and hey, we wouldn't want this to turn into the Oprah/recipe thread ;) I can't believe they didn't feed you on your trip!! That's nutty! I love the story of how you found Nozomi! That is SO sweet!! Ha ha Stage! I think THAT'S funny (the whole thing with your hubby). What does tongue and cheek mean? Beautiful pictures Joy! Thank you for sharing them!! What were you feeding those birds? Curly - you ROCK!! :twirly: :hyper: :twirly: CBETA - I always miss you when you haven't written in a bit!! I'm glad to hear that you have such great plans for the holidays! Apple!! You're almost there!!! Hello Fish ;) hope this week eases up for you! Okay, I was just telling my boyfriend about this thread and the challenges. He wants to know if it is ever anyone's challenge to jump up and down? :p Talk to you later!! Ees |
Oh Joy! I just looked at some of your other pictures! You take beautiful pictures and I LOVE your gardens!! You are so talented!!
|
The stuff they feed the birds with is a mixture of honey, water and condensed milk (sweetened variety no doubt) Apparently it is very very sweet. They also get some nuts and seeds later in the feed session, after they have done the tourist bit and let everyone ooooh and aaaah over them. The park has a 'feedometer' which sort of gives the number of birds. Theres 4 categories. Full house - means more birds than the people can cope with, then there is full flock, which means the birds extended family group and flock (immediate family). Now immediate family might mean 1000 or more birds. I can't remember the category that meant the least number of birds. Feel free to download them to your desktop if you wish. Actually that single close up of the bird drinking is better than the one I posted the other day.

:cookie: No Desserts/Treats Day 8
:chockiss: No Chocolate Day 20- Doing the I can make it one more day happy dance. :carrot: :candy: For Christmas we will be going to my Aunt's Christmas Eve morning, to celebrate with my extended family. Food, drink(coffee!) opening a few presents, chatting with cousins I don't see very often. Christmas eve we go to my SIL's for Christmas with DH's family. Food, drink:xcheer: (alcoholic I'm not driving, and my MIL is there!) Christmas day is at our house. We will get up, the kids will open their stockings, we'll eat breakfast, then we'll open presents. My parents, two brothers and their wives, and my niece will be here for dinner. My Dad cooks! He's making prime rib for those that want it, and turkey breast for the rest of us. Along with other traditional fare.:tree: |
Today is Day 18 of no wine - so far. The no choc challenge is toast, and the cake wasn't really that good. Neither was the chocolate that followed. :( Just not in the mood to be good!
Curly, Happy Birthday! :hb: Today is also Marble's birthday. Sagittarians or Capricorns? I'll have to look it up. Red, it sounds like you didn't much enjoy your brush with luxury. Surely you'll be paid for the ensuing article? Bummer that they didn't at least find a broom closet with a lumpy futon and a bowl of noodles for you. :kickcan: And hey, they could have made you hitch hike to the station, so what's all the whining about? I'm pretty lucky, I guess, when I travel with hoity-toity groups I stay in the same places as them, although without the "upgraded" rooms and fancy-schmantzy meals with free booze. As for Nozomi, she's a doll, and lucky to have found you. Some days I feel there are no coincidences, and that you were meant to walk by her little self at that precise moment, just as I was meant to walk into the Humane Society the day my funny little Lily arrived. Now Red, you've done a good job ignoring my challenge of your split challenge. So what's the deal? Is it legit to subdivide a challenge after it's underway? Understanding these challenge rules is just too challenging some days! (If I keep using the word "challenge" it'll stop making sense. Try saying it quickly 10 times in a row. Challenge challenge challenge challenge...) :dizzy: It seems to me several of you are on the verge of completing challenges! Once I put my new instructions (thanks!) into action and try a split screen, I'll be able to scan through and see exactly who, but not right now. Great news! Swingers clubs are now legal in Canada! :woo: Sometimes I wonder what the rest of the world thinks about us up here in Canada. Silly me! I almost forgot that the rest of the world is so very NOT interested in Canada and it's shenanigans. Ees, the above "Great news" comment is a sample of tongue-in-cheek, in case you wondered. I'm not into group sex... And Stage, don't get freaked out. Today I saw the doctor who did my deviated septum surgery. As I expected, I have to go back for a touch-up in the new year, since it's really no better than before the surgery. This time no general anasthetic, at least. Since I've blown my sweets challenge anyway, I think I might break down and make my Christmas cakes after all. (Don't worry, Red, no recipe. But they are such good cakes even those who hate fruit cake gobble them up.) I make the cakes to give as gifts, but the danger for me is the way the batter seems to mysteriously migrate northwards from the bowl and scrapers... Nighty-night, sleep tight, don't let those bedbugs bite! |
addressing carla!!!
Carla, I'm not ignoring you!!! I was just too busy to say much of anything and wanted to give you a PROPER response...but, since you're antsy....NO, no funny semi pauses...and YES, go ahead and split the challenge. I thought I said that...well, I did, but I guess it wasn't clear. I really don't expect people to listen to me anyhow...Sure, added factors to make a challenge really hard are good...but sometimes we realize we took on too much to handle, so sure, split it then if need be. I try not to do it...but with this last one, I had just started out and thought, well, why not....I hadn't realized your NOT splitting your last challenge meant you had to end it! Yikes! Why didn't you say something...well, I thought you were going to split them..I'm not able to keep track of what people are doing too much...I'm too much of a simpleton! I feel bad about the misunderstanding, so I've got an idea....how 'bout you put this challenge on hold, just pause it....and revert back to your old challenge and finish that one up....that should get you there by Xmas, no? Whadya say? We can't have our dear carla feeling bad when she's doing so GOOD!! :spin:
|
;) Great news about the swingers clubs Carla! Perhaps DH and I will have to visit Canada soon? NOT, well at least not for that reason. :D
Happy Birthday Curly!:woo: Did I miss it being mention somewhere? I can be very obtuse sometimes! Tongue-in-cheek= I don't mean what I'm saying, but I'm trying to be funny. AT least that's what I think it means? |
Dear Carla doesn't feel bad, but she isn't doing so good either. No need to dwell further on the split challenge/semi-pause debate, I think I've got it now. (Although I did briefly consider splitting my chocolate challenge into milk chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate subchallenges  Just to drive Red nuts.) I think I may just be restarting both challenges after Christmas, I simply don't feel like behaving right now. I still have one vino pause, I think. Gotta check on that...
Today we had a fairly mild (I thought) snowfall, and traffic was almost at a standstill. Of course we're not used to snow here in Canada... (more tongue-in-cheek...). The amazing thing was that at every intersection the drivers were being incredibly considerate and letting people into the flow of traffic! I couldn't believe it - I suspect the return of the body snatchers, and pod people at the wheel of all those eerily polite cars. It would all go so much better if everyone had snow tires on, but as a person who kept driving with a dangerous wheel bearing for the last 6 months, I guess I should just shut up. :o (I thought the noise was from the exhaust. I would have been so surprised if the wheel had fallen off! All repaired now.) Zzzzzzz.... |

CBETA, Fire signs with weight problems??! Don't be silly! That's as absurd as carla thinking she's going to "drive me nuts" because she wants to split semisweet and milk chocolate! I mean, really, I think I beat you to it on the crazy part...

ess,
I did not know someone liked my stories. I actually try to remind myself not to write long posts, but often I want to say so much.... Anyway, called friends trying to find out what to take to Tahoe, but their daughter got sick and they were driving back. They offered to stay in their place in that cabit, but it will not be fun w/o them, so we are not going. Instead I will vouch to go to the gym tomorrow....On Saturday I will make sure to meet up with friends and have a get together...no gifts really. Russians do gift exchange just like for Chrismas, but at New Years. Yet not everyone does it among friends. Last year my parents bought a tool set for me, as it was something I needed to hang mirrow and pictures at my new apaprtment, this year they gave me a nice present for b-day I really do not feel like comfortable if they give me more presents this year. For sister and grandma, I've not planned anything, and for a few friends locally....well I bought electric tea-pot for close friends...that's all. I've been feeling in doubt. Tomorrow, day before shutdown, will be an ultimatelly crazy day for me. So many things need to be completed before I leave..I am sure I am going to be at work late... My simple resolution for the next week or so, be at the gym at least once every two days.... I think I can manage the food intake and water, but gym is what I need... |

that's a big 8/8 CB!

    Come on, now, you CAN'T say it doesn't show!! |
isn't it strange?
fire burns all in it's way, but we fire sings have such a hard time burning? |
Quote:
red, what's "big 8/8 CB"...not sure what the abbreviation stand for? |
I'm a capricorn, what does that make me?
|
"Hard time burning?!?!" No way. The only thing I have a hard time burning is all the fat because I keep shoveling in the fuel like I was stoking the burners for a flight to the moon! :lol3:
|
CB is you, dear CBETA! 8/8 was my debut to this world!
And stage, that makes you a stable Earth sign. Those Cappies just work their way along, slowly but surely, getting better every year! |
8/8 - you've got to be kidding me. That gymnast friend I was telling you about, thin and eating aftere 9......
Her b-day is on 8/8! wow.... Stage, ..dont' tell me your b-day on Dec 26 or Dec31 or Jan6....is it? |
I thought I was an earth sign, but I wasn't sure. I think I need to look into astrology more. My birthday is 1/13, it's on a Friday this year!

Well, CB, (that's you! I abbreviate everything) it just shows I gotta fire those engines more instead of just dumping fuel into 'em! Our minds and bodies are still programmed to deal with lack and to SURVIVE. We think we will always have access to food but our bodies and minds are not really convinced. Well, I mean, heck, we may not, BUT, I think the chances are pretty good. I think the only way around this "Great Depression" mentality (althought you're too young for that and not from the right country, though I guess Russia had its share of lack...) is to just NOT think about it and NOT care about caution. Yes!! Fling caution to the wind!! CARPA DIEM. Live like you were mortal.... ;)
And, CB, you can read more things about people (like birthdates..and I mean this nicely) if you click on their name, release, a menu pops up, and then go to "view public profile." Some people have written things, others like to remain anonymous. Check it out. |

CB, that was not meant as a remark on your knowledge. A "Great Depression mentality" is something that people like my grandparents, who actually went through the Depression, got and could never really get over. It caused them to like store dollar bills in their mattresses and things like that, just in case the banks went under again....yes, like you said, just being pessimistic AND overly cautious...which, if you really thought about, we could take like this...think of every meal as being your last for a while...do you want to make it a can of soda or an apple (or other healthy calorie equivalent)? Or, you could say, do I want to risk getting diabetes when I may not be able to get medical care or be able to pay for it? Better to get healthy and fit. Sounds like the best insurance to me, right?
|
Okay, I am determined to make a dent in my room and get my exercise bike (at least one of them) set up and ready to roll. I blew off the gym today because I thought I would go very early tomorrow...THEN I realized tomorrow is a holiday here (Emperor's birthday) and now I can't go at all because they open late and I have to be at work.....darn! So, I am determined to work up a good sweat on the bike...IF I can get it set up tonight! Wish me luck! :ebike:
|
Red, I have confidence, that you can setup your bike AND work up that sweat you've talked about...if not I would hope you are not going to take a Pause day and you will find someother means of exercising.
(I had a girl at work once, she lost 50 pounds. How? she was embarassed, so she would run up and down the staircase for an hour just to work out....) I trust you.... p.s. I am a newby here and until today I did not know you were a journalist, could you tell more about that job. I am curious to know what you do...(if you do not mind me asking) Have a good day... I am off to bed. |
well, you asked.....
CBETA -- Thank you! for your vote of confidence. I just moved some stuff around. I COULD set the one bike up in the kitchen as a temporary measure, just, well, because I SAID I would get it set up and I WILL. I am annoyed that I forgot about the gym opening late tomorrow because I really did want to get a workout in and had my gym gear to go directly after riding today, then didn't because I thought I would do it tomorrow. Oh well, if I can get my bike set up again I can get some good fat-burning workouts in. I use a pulse monitor and can push my heartrate up and KEEP it there! Right now, I'm taking a break because the dust I kicked up is making it hard to breathe and this is where the asthma kicks in if I don't let it settle....I have a very bad allergy to dust, but thank God, NOT anything in a barn, hay, fur, or hair. I can hug my cats and horse! :dizzy:
Actually, CB, my pause day would be for the crunches only, which I WILL do. The exercise is just something I always do and need to do more of to get this excess burned off. Sure wish I had excess in my bank account! Stair running is fantastic exercise and would knock most people out just to walk up. Tonight is the office yearend party and I am NOT going. There is no way I could go and NOT drink beer and it would probably end up as a LOT of beer and I just can't be bothered to go in there on a day when I'm not scheduled to be there. I'm thinking of all the calories I'll save and I won't risk making a scene, a fool of myself....again! :dancer: Well, there's not that much to say about my work. I do a lot of different things, but my best is writing...not that you would know it from the drivel I come out with here, eh?! ;) I used to do the assigned work, where I had to interview anyone they told me to. At the time I was on the features desk. It was interesting but you have to do a lot of research just to be able to ask halfway intelligent questions. Sure, meeting celebrities and all is cool but it wears off, unless you are into living vicariously. I preferred to go deep instead of shallow and wide and thus concentrated on horseracing. So, I have that as kind of a niche here now. All my writing is freelance now as the work I do at the paper 3x week is editing, headline, caption writing, page layout. But I get asked to write stories still, especially things like this recent ski resort trip, which is PR work for the ad department, stuff most people hate and journalists who think the word only means going for the Pulitzer, debating politics, muckracking and otherwise changing the world in big ways are loathe to do. I do it because I can and I need the money. I really should work on my writing, getting published more, set goals, become more knowledgeable... I like interviewing people, getting inside their heads, their beings, finding out what makes them tick and letting other people (the reader) know so perhaps he or she can learn from it. This is my forte I would say, if I were asked if I had any. I especially like talking to people who excel in their areas and have talked with a lot, mostly athletes, but also musicians, film directors and such. I should do more writing. There's not that much money in it and like I said, you start realizing people are people and there's not that much new that is going to come out of them. Gotta go where the money is...wish I knew.... Hmm, what else? What do you want to know? Anything in particular? About writing, interviewing, getting stories or so or are you just being curious? Well, OK, sorry to bother any others with this long post. I probably should PM it. Okay, back to the dent-making. |
lol thanks u guys but my birthday is oct 14th ... I'm a libra :)
|
Oooh! Curly, I'm 15 October!
|
Wow, y'all went crazy with the posting last night!
Let's see, I am still at day 1. I worked 12 hours straight and by the time I got home I couldn't even talk myself into doing yoga. I stood and stared at my yoga mat for about 10 minutes until DH gently led me to the sofa and gave me a cup of soup. I managed to eat a little more yesterday, but still not very much (just over 1000 calories). Today should be much better. All the rush-rush is out of the way because most of the partners I work with are out of the office today and tomorrow. All I know is I am going to the gym today, OR ELSE!!! Two days in a row with no work out makes Michell a grumpy girl! Quote:
Okay - so it wasn't Curly's birthday, but it is Marble's? Happy Birthday to someone, anyone! let's have some cake:devil: |
Oops, Curly, I think I'm the guilty party. I misread your post and thought "birthday" where you had clearly written "Christmas" party. Even dumber, since I'm a Libra too and we had this conversation back in October.
Stage, you're not only a Capricorn, if I'm not mistaken (again), you're a victorious Capricorn on the last day of your chocolate challenge? :woo::woo::woo: |
hey thats ok... i can go for a slice of cyber cake anytime!!... my bf's birthday is jan 5th so he is a capricorn(work aholics)
|
Day 6 completed! Mmmmmmmm there were some yummy looking no bake cookies, but then I'd have to take a pause day, so I passed them up. Thank goodness for this thread! Today is day 7.
|
Good Morning! Yes I'm on my last day of my No Chocolate challenge! Tomorrow I think I'm going to have one of my *food porn to follow, do not read if you will be tempted *
*food porn*chocolate p.butter balls*food porn* that I stashed for breakfast! |
Hmmm in looking up astrology stuff I've found that I'm suppose to be compatible with Taurus and Virgo. My DH is a Pisces, do you think this is a problem? *tongue a little in cheek*
