on to Day 10....

Well, I got through Day 9 at last yesterday and really didn't eat much at all as I was only mobile part of the day..... Today is Wednesday here already and I am too busy to write at length now. Let's see if I can manage something tonight.

Sushi -- Yes, they transport horses by air. It's pretty amazing. Go to this link for a story on horse transport for air and then click on the link for the pdf file, which has pictures.
http://72.14.203.104/search?q=cache:...by+plane&hl=en

Shad -- There's your Horlicks pedigree. http://www.pedigreequery.com/horlicks Funny, the names are pretty foreign to me, except for some like Petingo, Alcazar, Alycidon, all because they're from her sire's sire. I don't know Three Legs. Just shows how you get to know the pedigrees in your neck of the woods and not much elsewhere unless you're really studying.

Well, Shad, it looks like you're inching ahead of me, because I just up and forgot about the crunches yesterday totally, and that was after saying I had to do them. Oh well, no yellow sticker on my calendar (that's what I've been doing to remember.)

Everyone else, a big hello and cheers for the successes. I am just extraordinarily busy Japan Cup week and trying to fit other activities in is about all I can manage. No time to post here at length. Take care all and I'll be back soon!

curlylocks 11-22-2005 07:05 PM

hi guys...

day 11>> 1 hr of circuit training... is everyone ready for turkey day?
what plans do you have for staying OP?

Shad 11-22-2005 09:56 PM

Oh dear Red, thank you for that pedigree. I went back and had a look at the few I remember from way back. There are lots of horses which have the same names. I thought that it wasn't meant to be but I guess once one has retired from racing, then the name becomes available for others. Just goes to show how old I am getting, some of the ones I remember were racing in the 50's and 60's :yikes: how old am I.

carla49 11-23-2005 01:02 AM

Way to go Fish! You're really doing well, and I vaguely remember that it's not easy to lose when you're getting close to goal. :bravo:

Sushi, do you get headaches a lot? :headache: I discovered a wonderful homeopathic remedy: it's a mixture of mint and lavender oils in a little roll-on tube, and you roll some on your forehead or temples. It feels as refreshing as immersing your head in cold water, and seems to provide the relief you need to break the pain cycle. The kind I have is called Migrastick (made in Quebec), but I'm sure you can find something similar.

Apple, I don't remember what your challenge is, but I'm glad to see you're going strong again.

Betty and Stage, you're both chugging away quite nicely. You'll probably race on to success, wondering why some of us waste our time ranting and babbling instead of exercising. We do it as a personal sacrifice to entertain. Sort of like the old serials they had at the movies when I was a kid. We always went back the next week, eager to see the next instalment.

Curly, I hope you really enjoyed your day off-challenge. Plenty of doing nothing, I assume? You'll still beat the rest of us to victory. If I send you a SASE would you send me some of your amazing persistence? I sure could use me some!

Shad, I didn't realize you were a horsey type! I pictured you travelling to various foreign countries and doing crunches - when you weren't too busy laying pavers, of course.

Red, I'll try not to shout, as I'm sure you're feeling a little fragile what with all the "work" you've been doing in pubs and wherever else you and your little Irish friend  have been spending your time... One French expression for a hangover is "avoir mal aux cheveux" - in other words, your hair hurts. Of course those days are only a dim memory for me now. :snooty:

Why does the Quantas direct flight matter to horse transportation? Wouldn't the horses be flying in cargo planes? I just can't picture Dobbin in first class demanding champers with his oats...

DETOX is still going strong, Day 12 today if I'm not mistaken. But CREAK is officially over. Including one iffy day was enough, and today would have been another borderline one. So I'll be starting CREAK2 one of these days soon. Saturday will be a pause day for DETOX, as I'll be at a birthday party and am sure to sin. Which will have me finishing up on Dec 2, and plenty of time to do one more challenge before the New Year.

A technical question for Red, unless of course she's awol again recovering in a darkened room, forcing fluids and begging for aspirin. If someone has two separate staggered challenges, would they count as two completed challenges in our individual tally? I think it would be the only way I could hope to catch up to Curly...

Sushi Penguin 11-23-2005 01:40 AM

Hmmm, yes, I guess it makes sense to transport horses in planes. I just never knew that's the way it's done. And it seems to be taken care of quite well, judging by the article Red sent me to. And neither did I know that horses too can get seasick but can't vomit. Poor horses...

Carla, I got headaches/migraines from time to time, but when I get them, they come and go for a few weeks. My current full-time job involves sitting in front of the computer all day, maybe that's why. But the mixture you described seems great, I'll surely look for it.

Ok, I'll stop yabbing and get to work on getting home and then on completing day 7 of my challenge :)

No Soda- 9 Days
Abs- 4 Days

Off to bed now! I swear after school tomorrow I will really be able to catch up on posts. Today was just my really looooong day of the week!

Shad 11-23-2005 04:05 AM

Day 13 under control

I still have to do 2 sets of abs & crunches and will go do that while I watch some mindless tv in a few moments. Finished the week at the gym today - hallelujah for that. I'm tired. All this getting up so early in the morning.

Stage - going well. There are days when you just can't find the time to post. Other days where you can yak and yak and yak. We all have 'em

Sushi - it's amazing what one can learn on these threads. There always seems to be some one with a bit of knowledge about the weirdest of things. Red sent me a pedigree looker upper. I spent quite a bit of time being very naughty and looking up names of horses I thought long forgotten. That cooling thingy from Carla sounds nice. Must see if we have anything similar here. Don't get headaches often (now it was not nice to say that there is nothing between the ears to ache and the headaches are caused by echoing.) But they are wicked when they do come.

Oh Carla - There are a lot of things I could put on my CV besides workplace trainer extraordinaire - I was a shearers cook for a while, I've looked after horses in stables, I was training for nursing at one stage. I've worked in offices and in mines. I've even been a cabbie. I can do lots of things you wouldn't believe besides painting, laying pavers (and concrete and bricks) and building sheds and fences. Just call me Jill (of all trades) since there is nothing I won't have a go at! I even travel and do crunches and run and gesticulate at the Japanese sometimes all at the same time!
I had to laugh at Dobbin in first class demanding oat and hay with the champers. Qantas (no u in it) have cargo planes as well as passenger planes - sometimes it is hard to tell the difference!!!! Horses are forever going back and forth between here and NZ for races and breeding etc. I though Air NZ did it as well, but then I haven't kept up with the times.

Okay, time to go and prepare myself for day 14. Life is so good.

derrydaughter 11-23-2005 05:47 AM

DAY 9 done!
Today is day 10 for me... I almost blew it yesterday, but at the very end of the day I made myself do 20 sit ups and 20 leg lifts!
We are going away over Thanksgiving, more challenges!
Have a safe and happy holiday to all who celebrate!
If you live in a country that does not observe Thanksgiving. I invite you to be at peace, give thanks for friends and family and the blessings in your life.
Linda in New Hampshire

Sushi Penguin 11-23-2005 06:20 AM

Day 7 completed, and I'm actually proud of myself - did quite well despite having a day's beak. At about half time I started running faster, making it more of a run than a jog, which made the whole thing easier.

Stats
Days 1 to 5: no stats kept
Day 6 - 11 mins 30 sec with 2 breaks; 8 mins 14 seconds running, first break at 3 min 41 sec
free day (migraine)
Day 7 - 15 mins 4 seconds with 2 breaks; 11 min 20 sec running, first break at 4 min 30 sec

curlylocks 11-23-2005 06:45 AM

lol carla ... trust me "my persistance" does wane like everyone elses..

I had a long talk with myself this morning cuz i can see there is no "healthy" way that i will meet my goal of 220 by new years... and told myself to stop beating myself up... i still lost a consistant 1.25 lbs per week this month.. and SLOW is good, that means it has all been fat and not water weight.. didnt get over weight... "over night" and it will take time to get to my goal...

even tho i havent lost quickly ... ive gained something even more important... which is the REAL point of this challenge...

no matter how many times we have to start over... look at how many days we have exercised or worked on our goals (water etc) when maybe we wouldnt have even tried??

so ... we are all persistant and we have all made positive changes in our lives!

thanks red.. for making this thread!

redballoon 11-23-2005 06:47 AM

Day 10 in the bag...

Ok, all. Trying to get a little caught up. I just got down on the floor and did my 10 sets of 20. Not much room in my place, so it was just lots of sets of straight up and then some diagonals. Ok, there was no way I was going to get any further behind. Yesterday ticks me! I just totally forgot!

Well, had kind of a break day today, no, not the challenge, that was okay as I didn't pig out and because I rode in the afternoon that leaves me less time to stuff things down the gullet... So, Day 10 is a wrap.... :cb:

Well, you know this site is going to be down on Thanksgiving Day. This is my tomorrow, Thanksgiving that is, but I won't be able to post on Friday. So, I actually have one more day to post.

derry -- Good for you for doing those situps and leg lifts at the end of the day. Yes, Thanksgiving. I had totally forgotten. Today was a holiday here. Don't know what it was...Wish I could call the homestead tomorrow but with the time difference that may be tough. I can at least send an email for now. Hope you have a good day too.

Shad -- So, you see. I got back on the ball and did those crunches! I was worried there when you said you had done 7 "reps" and needed to do three more. I figured you just made a mistake but I was worried you were just doing 10 reps, not 10 of 20! Ok, glad you like the pedigree. I guess different countries have different rules concerning names. I think it takes a long time in Japan for names to allowed to be recycled. What's this?! "A teenage colleague?" Well, I'm not going that young...not yet...I keep 'em above....well, he was 29...but I guess I'd have to say I keep 'em above ....23..give or take a few years.... :lol3:

Sushi -- Glad you could read the article. Actually it wasn't much of an article but I thought the photos would give you a bit of an idea as to how horses travel. And congrats on completing Day 7! :cp: You all are putting me to shame! Love those stats!

carla -- "awol again recovering in a darkened room, forcing fluids and begging for aspirin" ?!?!?!?!?!? No, not doing any such thing...you sound like you know your way around wellsome! Well, this could be deja vu for tomorrow and the Japan Cup Welcome Party, which I've been invited too. But no, I won't be drinking much..

And yes, that's a go on the staggered challenges (staggering challenges?). They count as two separate ones, you bet! Well, carla, I must say you are doing well! And what do you mean CREAK is over? You mean you completed the challenge or are you just throwing in the towel. Tell me it's the former! and I'll give you the big cheering smilies.

As for horses flying, it can be very hard on them, the movement, not able to lie down, not able to stretch their heads down, the dry air, everything. Some have no trouble at all. Others can get very stressed.

curly -- Look at all the admiration you're getting here these days! :bravo: A big hand for Day 11. Turkey Day? No problem here, although actually I will be at the race party. Raw fish will probably be the closest to turkey they'll have...Oh, and heh! more congrats and admiring looks on that weight loss. I see you've moved your tracker! Hurrah for you! :sunny: And curly, you have a super great attitude. Thanks for the thanks!

Betty -- Hello! and sorry for the belated welcome! :welcome3: Good luck on your challenge. :goodluck: No explosions yet, I gather?

Fish -- What's up with you? Great that you're fitting into those slacks. It must feel great! I write for a regular newspaper, horse-racing magazines and other racing-related publications. Yeah, Tokyo is a cool place. Definitely worth a look around, or at least Japan. I'm so used to it now though, that it is all so familiar. Still, I can still appreciate the roof of a temple or old house (not too many of them though) and it is nice to come across such places even in Tokyo amidst the skyscrapers. I hope you can come here someday soon. And, I'm glad you set carla straight with that sober redhead silliness! Too bad about the fight with hubby. But, I suppose he's just worried. Is he overweight? An average of 1300 is not bad, unless you are liking eating 500 one day and 1800 the next, which could look suspect. Well, you'll be okay. It's hard to lose weight when you're already quite lean. Congrats on Day 7! :cp:

stagemom -- Hello! and welcome to you too! :welcome: You were doing a stealth challenge, if I recall right. Thus, these glowing numbers already! :cp:

Apple -- Where are you? You were on Day 6 there. Hope things are OK.

Silly -- you too...are you still with us?! I hope so! :flow1:

marble -- Hello!! Glad you could check in. You're not doing a challenge yet though I reckon. Well, I sure wish you a speedy recovery. And I hope the pain is not bad.

Ok, that's enough catching up for now. Hope I didn't miss anyone. Mez, where are you??! Ice?!?! Anyone else out there we haven't heard from in a while? Come back!! Shane!!

:bubbles:

carla49 11-23-2005 10:08 AM

Red, sorry to admit CREAK has been abandoned. :( I had used my three pause days, and my litle walk just didn't meet my criteria as an on-challenge day. But I haven't quit trying, just admitted I've blown that challenge. I'll start back as soon as I've thought out what type of exercise to aim for.

More later - my battery is about to die. :)

FishWoman 11-23-2005 10:26 AM

Finished day 9 of ACE. Today will be day 10 and tomorrow will definitely be a pause day if for no other reason than I am by bloody god having wine with my thanksgiving dinner :tantrum:

Curly - 1.25 pounds per week is great! Remember, slow and steady wins the race. If Aesop said it, it must be true :D

Sushi - you are really coming along with your running. Isn't is fun seeing your times increase?

I wish I could convince my in-laws to do sushi/sashimi rather than turkey and gravy. I think that would be some sort of thanksgiving sacrilege  Oh well, I will do the best I can tomorrow.

I don't have time to post to each of you individually today, but you are all in my thoughts for a safe and happy day tomorrow and everyday!!

Beware Of Suger Free Pumpkin Pies!!!

Here's an update Shopping with my sisters went very well lots of fun! When I returned home my elliptical was broken. Some of my childrens friends were horsing around on it. They said they were sorry. What can you do? I asked if they got hurt they didn't so I cleaned and played catchup with laundry.
I pickuped a sugar free pumpkin pie. I ate two pieces of it. Then a few hours later I was violently ill and I had terrible stabbing pains in my belly. This went on for over an hour. Then I was just left with the stabbing pains which finnally dulled at shortly after 2 am and was able to fall asleep. I woke this morning and even right now my stomach is very sore. I honestly think they should put warning lables on some of these sugar free product and how they can effect a person. I have NEVER felt so much pain and I've given birth twice! Well I'm off to lay down just wanted to check in. P.S. The rest of that Pie is in the garbage I'll call the Wally World later and let them know what I think of this product!!! Please BEWARE!!!

Shad 11-23-2005 04:57 PM

Day 14 strikes

At the end of today it will only be seven days to go to get over this challenge. It was so slow and painful at the beginning but now seems to be speeding past. I need to start thinking of another to get me to the Christmas break. This one will be different. I'm becoming bored with the lo cal, water, exercise one - they are habits now more or less. Or maybe I will limit it to water which is the worst of my bad habits.

Finished yesterdays crunches and abs and even added a couple of new exercises to do with them. Still only doing 10x20 but adding variety - sort of.

Last night was a pain on the trains. There was a signal failure somewhere down on our line and we got stuck for long periods of time at various stations. Took 2 hours to get home. No matter how grumpy you get about it, there is not much to do for it and you hope that there is someone on the train who can provide some entertainment. Well yesterdays was a policeman. He told some of the school kids where to go and how to get there and organised the crowds so that they didn't all stand around the doors getting in each others way. He had kids going in all directions. Sorted out where they were getting off and putting them further up the carriage so the rest of us could get on and off the train. Some drunk in the far corner kept us entertained ?!#$%??? with a monologue running down the various races, nationalities and their lurks and quirks. I was waiting for an argument to develop but it didn't happen. Such is life.

Mez - I always knew there was a reason why I don't eat sugar substitutes and butter substitutes etc. Poor tummy, poor you. Get well soon.

Fish - a wonderful meal without wine is not a wonderful meal. Enjoy your pause day. I presume Thanksgiving must be Thursday in the States??!!! Which means no 3fc site on Friday for us. Sushi is on the menu for lunch today. I haven't had any since I came back from Japan. I was going to make some myself but forgot overnight. So today I buy it. There is a sushi bar 1 block over in the Myers Centre.

No exercise day today - except for the aforementioned abs. It was so nice to get up this morning and potter around picking up a few things, hanging out some washing, doing whatever - escept that I couldn't find anything for lunch so hence the buy lunch today. Silly me.

Morning to Red, Sushi, Stage, Carla, Betty, Fluff, Curly and Derry. I've run out of time. Work calls. But at least it is Thursday. Gotta love that - I've got Friday on my mind now.

Four days of only getting up early if I want to, not because I have to.

Have a very, very, :thanks1: everyone!!!

Apple Blossom 11-24-2005 01:44 AM

I'm trying to figure out what day I'm on, seems I haven't posted for a while. I think I should be on day 8, but I had to take a pause day. So day 7 done. I have to try really hard to remember my challenge tomorrow and Fri, because I only have 1 more pause! Sorry I haven't been much support lately but I've been really busy with family. Take care everyone, and Happy Thanksgiving!!!!

No Soda- 10 Days
Abs- 6 Days

Today is going to be a bit more challenging on the no soda!

Sushi Penguin 11-24-2005 04:55 PM

Just quickly...
Day 8 - run 0 to 4 mins 32 sec, walk 4'32" to 6'27" and run 6'27" to 7'30" - so total time ran is just over 6 min. I couldn't do more than that because of a full tummy and because of having played badminton just before. I was too puffed! :)

More later, I'm about to start work :)

Shad 11-24-2005 07:31 PM

Morning all, Day 15

Well it is really very nearly afternoon - and it is Friday - yeehaa. Day 14 fizzled out with a whimper.

Food was not the best - in that there wasn't a lot of it and it wasn't structured, but it was in the calorific range so I won't complain.

Water - again okay.

Exercise - day off that and I completed the abs and crunches set by our beloved leader

I'm tired for some reason this week. Must be the weather - drizzly rain, cooler temps, higher humidity etc.etc.etc. Then again, I've been doing work in the evenings, so maybe the sleep has been in short supply as well.

Anyway - better go do some work. Back later

carla49 11-24-2005 10:46 PM

For some reason I thought the site was supposed to be shut down today - what a surprise to find even a few posts!

Stage, already on days 10 and 6 - it really seems to be adding up fast. I hope you squeezed thru today without soda, but if not remember you get one pause day during your first challenge so all is not lost.

Apple, I hope you too made it thru Thanksgiving all right. I think the US version of the holiday is even more food excessive than Canada's, which is a very scary concept.

Sushi, when I first read your post I couldn't figure why you were telling us you had walked 4 feet 32 inches etc. But I did finally get it. I must be a little slower than usual what with food deprivation and all.

Shad, you sound a little low. It must be the void left by Red's temporary absence. Let's hope she's enjoying the races and not just work, work, work. But you did get through Day14 AND your abs/crunch work! So here's a little virtual  on me to chase the blahs away.

Today was Day 14 of my DETOX challenge. Also the first day of the new WL Clinic diet, which is basically food exchanges to add up to a total of about 1200 cal. Normally I'd find that much too low, but of course it's fairly strict and doesn't allow for those fun things that add up so quickly. No more home fries or bacon or entire rows of arrowroot cookies... Saturday is a party I have to go to, which will be quite a challenge. Lashings of wine and good food, all of it on the taboo list. I think I'll eat beforehand and just drink soda water and go home early. I'd really like to get through the first week of this program right on target, in the hopes of a nice encouraging result to help thru the holidays.

Our first snowstorm today, lots of idiots sliding off the road and bending each other's fenders. I didn't need to do any rush hour driving, and I'm pretty careful, so no problem here. It does look pretty though, and if it sticks maybe soon the cross-country trails will be groomed and ready for me to try again.

Red, if you're lurking out there, take care of yourself.

Mez, is your elliptical kaput for ever, or repairable?

No exercise at all - there's still a vague hope of a walk before bed, but today was a bit draining emotionally, and I'm totally pooped, so.... ta ta for now.

stagemomx3 11-24-2005 11:31 PM

:dancer: I made it through today with no soda! So my stats are:

No Soda- 11 Days

Abs 6 Days

Shad 11-25-2005 05:01 AM

Day 15 done

Food - Okay
Exercise - Okay
Water - at the minimum
Abs/ Crunches done.

Day 15 is a wrap.

Carla, the site was shut, but not for very long. I was very surprised to get up this morning and find the site back again. Whatever they did didn't take to long at all.
I'm not really low, but thanks for caring anyway. I have a few things on my mind with work and contracts. My contract is due to run out in January. I really don't want to renew it, but..... I would like to stay in Brisbane a while longer and the new work coming in is from out of State - not only out of State but way into the wop wop. Sort of Baffin Island but with heat! I think my problem is the Christmas time warp that sets in around here about now. Everything and everyone seems to focus on that one day. I hate the muzak in the shops. Thank heaven the huge majority of my shopping is done. I hate the frenzy to spend, spend, spend. Still not my problem. I have the willpower to say no. I hope the WL Clinic diet does it for you. A few victories over the scale and the tape measure will mean a lot to you. Good luck with the program over the weekend. If you are a bit worried about the party, would you not be better to start the program on Sunday. Just be careful on Saturday with food and drink.

Stage - going well. Keep it up.

Weekend is here for us. Red will be busy with the Japan Cup breaking news. Go Red. I predict a horse will win the race!!!! And yes I have done my crunchies for tonight. Will the pain ever ease???

Okay, gotta move along. I think an early night with a book might be the go.

FishWoman 11-25-2005 02:14 PM

Today is Friday, and the start of day 11. Wednesday was day 10, and yesterday, Thursday, was American thanksgiving, and a pause day for me. It was not as horrible as I had anticipated. My downfall was, of course, the wine and the desserts, but I ate only 2070 total, which I will be able to easily burn off.

We got about 1/2 inch of snow Wednesday night. It is all gone now, but the puppy loved it. She was racing around on the deck, sliding in the snow. The older dog loves snow too, but he likes it when it is deeper and he can jam his head down into it looking for poor defenseless bunnies and squirrels. Not that he has ever found any, but i suppose he figures if he doesn't look, he will never find any:D

I will talk to everyone later! have a great weekend.

stagemomx3 11-25-2005 02:32 PM

Just checking in. No ab work yet today. DH and I got up early(5am!) and went shopping. Now we are back home, and have dd's birthday party this afternoon. It is a wet, yucky, miserable day outside!

No Soda 11 Days
Abs 6 Days

Sushi Penguin 11-25-2005 05:33 PM

I'm trying to come up with a good way to log my stats :)
I was taught in school that the sign for minute is ' and for seconds " - that's how you log times in sports. Not my fault that it's the same for feet and inches, I never used those!

Day 8 - run 0 to 4 mins 32 sec, walk 4'32" to 6'27" and run 6'27" to 7'30" - so total time ran 5 min 35 sec (not over 6 as I posted before)
Day 9 - run to 3'47", walk to 6'40", run to 9'56", walk to 12'22", run to 13'52" so total time ran is 8 minutes 33 seconds

Over the next few days I'm going to try to run a bit longer after the second beak.

stagemomx3 11-25-2005 10:39 PM

 I'm annoyed right now! I want to be able to go do my ab work and people won't leave my house. My brother and SIL are still hanging around!

Shad 11-25-2005 10:43 PM

Go into the bedroom, shut the door, tell everyone you'll be back in half an hour. If that doesn't shift 'em, well you can carry on as you were previous to the ab work. It's not negotiable. Just go do it.

stagemomx3 11-26-2005 01:11 AM

I finally got my workouts in today, now I'm wiped out and must go to bed. Tomorrow we go Christmas tree hunting up in the hills in the snow.:snow4:

Day 16

Hiya all,
Saturday afternoon here and I am getting ready to go to a friends place for their Christmas dinner with friends. I understand we are barbequing. But what we are barbequing I have no idea. I need to get some wine and some flowers for the hostess. No the wine is for me and since I am driving a bunch of small bottles will do the trick. What I don't drink I bring home.

It's been a warm day, busy mostly as well. House is cleaned (again) - really don't know where all the washing and cleaning comes from. I blame the cat!! Couldn't possibly be me creating all the mess.

Food has been sparse owing to the upcoming, aforementioned barbecue. I can afford to eat a good plateful tonight.
Water has been a bit sparse, but I am getting through it. I will be taking some with me tonight as well and alternating with the wine.
Exercise - well I went to Body Balance and have done the abs/ crunches.
All in all I'm calling it a wrap.

Catch you all tomorrow.

:coffee2: Good Morning! How is everyone this fine Saturday? It's still early here 6:30am. We are heading out to trek up in the mountains for our christmas tree at 8. I suppose I should get into the shower, but I'm sitting here enjoying my coffe instead.:p

Hello all.

Sushi, you were correct in using the ' and " for minutes and seconds. It's just that I always used to calculate my runs in distance, not time. Although I did use a watch with a timer to alternate run/walk. The Running Room (a Canadian running chain) has now come out with a watch that's programmed to do 10 and 1 for long runs. Even for fast walking. (Gotta get me one of them!) All this to say I apologize for mixing you up.

Today is Day 16 (I think) of DETOX. I have one pause day left, and tonight is a party. But next Tues night I'm having dinner with an old friend... What to do, what to do! It's just as well I abandoned the exercise challenge, as I've done next to nothing. Oh well.

I'm on my third day of the new diet, and wishing I could have a few more carbs, but I have to admit I'm not hungry. No clear movement on the scale, so I think I'll quit in a huff. Just joking. Glass half empty and all that.

Shad, it sounds like you're going to enjoy the bbq tonight. But a Christmas dinner already? And, of course, the wine... Raise a glass for on-the-wagon-me while you're at it. I know what you mean about the mystery of laundry and housework accumulation. Since I have two cats instead of your one, you can imagine the mess around here! :lol3: Every time I think of your user name, I want to ask where Enfreude is...

Stage, isn't it a little early for a Christmas tree? You and Shad are so far ahead of the game, it makes me feel like maybe I fell asleep and did a Rip van Winkle or something.

It's snowing again here, actually looking rather nice, and I read this morning that the cross-country ski trails are groomed and ready already! Time to put my skis where my mouth is, I guess. Maybe tomorrow, maybe Monday. The sooner I start the better chance I'll actually do it.

Bye-bye.

Morning all,

It's quiet on the threads this morning. Not many people on at all. I guess that the Americans are enjoying their long weekend. And good on them for that.

Sushi, you are going well with the running. Don't be tempted into doing too much at once because nothing works that way. When I started I couldn't even do a minute. I've since progressed to 50 minutes - I could probably do more but never have the time to find out.

Stage - going well too. Finally got those abs done I see.

Carla - hiya. Two cats!!! My word, the washing round your place must be awful. Who looks after them while you are away??
If you are having dinner with an old friend, can't you just carry on eating lightly and sensibly for the day and then a bit more at night?
Enfreude? Shad?? must be a Canadian thing. I'm just not with that one?? Please explain.

I went to my bbq last night. Went well in the food department apart from my downfall of dips and biks. The actual dinner I managed a small steak, satay chicken skewer, a big salad, and assorted veg and turned down the dessert. That isn't hard to do, but the Belgian Chocolate at the end was a close run thing. I had a piccolo bottle of a very dry champagne which is not really on my list of favourites so that was easy to stick to one glass. The gym this morning should fix the extra calories from last night.

Christmas sneaks upon us. Last's nights do was really not so much a Christmas party as a get together of friends who won't see each other closer to the silly season's finale. I don't know if I would be out getting a tree yet, however where Stage is the tree may last until the big day. Nothing like a real tree and a real smell (and real pine needles all over the floor) However if I was going to get one here, then I wouldn't get it until a couple of weeks from the day since it would be brown and dead from heat before too long.
I need to do my Christmas letter this week, email it enmasse in the first week of December and plan my family get together for the week before Christmas since I will be in Adelaide for the big day.

Oh dear, down comes the rain again. Working outside today, may be a little uncomfortable. Maybe something inside instead!!!! Bah humbug.

Onto day 17.

Wonder how our fearless leader is progressing.

:snow4: Christmas tree found! Yes it is early, though we certainly had plenty of company up on the mountain today! I'm in rainy western Washington, so really the tree won't be to bad until after Christmas. We usually take it down on the 26th anyway. This was really the only weekend we had time to go and get the tree, that's why it was today. Plus here, you really don't know when you are going to get nice weather, and today has been sunny and beautiful.

Shad- Good job on the bbq, I would have had trouble with the chocolate! How did your workout at the gym go?

Curly- Did you figure out what day you are on?

Carla- Have fun at your party tonight!

No ab work yet today so I'm still at-

I'm on Day 11 today, and I'm thinking of starting a second challenge... is there anything in the rules about doing 2 challenges at the same time, but counting the days separately?
If that's against the rules, then I'm just going to do my own independent 28-day challenge - crunches. Yes, 28 days of crunches, starting at 5 and adding one more each day or every second day.
Either way, I completed Day 2 this morning. I did 5 yesterday, and it was a good number to pick, as the last one nearly killed me! Today I did 6.

I don't have any way to measure the distance I'm running, other than "two times from the hole in the road to the big tree overthere and back." And I don't have a real stopwatch either, so I'm running with my cell phone! How pathetic is that?! But it lets me take snapshots, so I know exactly when I take breaks and how long they are :)

Stats
Days 1 to 5: no stats kept, but it went from 5-6 minutes to close to 10
Day 6 - 11 mins 30 sec with 2 breaks; 8 mins 14 seconds running, first break at 3 min 41 sec
free day (migraine)
Day 7 - 15 mins 4 seconds with 2 breaks; 11 min 20 sec running, first break at 4 min 30 sec
Day 8 - run 0 to 4 mins 32 sec, walk 4'32" to 6'27" and run 6'27" to 7'30" - so total time ran 5 min 35 sec
Day 9 - run to 3'47", walk to 6'40", run to 9'56", walk to 12'22", run to 13'52" so total time ran is 8 minutes 33 seconds
Day 10 - run 0-3'46", walk to 6'42", run to 9'46" (3"4'), walk to 12'53' and run to 15'57" (3'4" - yay!), total time ran is 9 min 54 sec
