  • Ladies, I"m so proud of myself...I had to tell y'all. i just finished working out for the 7th day in a row. That's right! I worked out every day this week. The last time I did that I was single. Something about being married makes women gain weight. I think I was trying too hard to be the perfect wife by cooking dinner every night. Fatty dinners every night.... But I've been married almost two years now, he already knows that I'm not perfect. It's time to lose weight!
  • First let me say congrats to kellbee. Exercising every day is a huge accomplishment. I try to get some kind of exercise in but there are some days I'm just not in the mood. I don't remember if you said you were on any kind of diet. If so, what kind and do you like it?

Fay, when my children were little my in laws were very much like your dd. They lived a mile from us and they were always sticking there nose in where it didn't belong. Still, they are family and what your dd hasn't realized yet is there will come a time in her life when family is all she has. Its such a sad thing not to be able to be part of your grandsons life while he is still young. I was wondering, what does her hubby say about all this?

Hubby, mother in law and i went on vacation together this past Oct. to check out upper Ga. as a possible place to retire in four years. (Father in law died three years ago) Carl and i had always wanted to build a log home but the price for a small one was just out of our price range. So, we were looking at land to buy when we were up there and maybe building on it. The problem about building is, Carl wants small, i want big. I already live in a small house, don't want to retire in one. Anyway, we were looking at a real estate magazine and saw a house that had been reduced in price so went to "JUST LOOK" at it. I walked in the door and knew that this was the house i wanted. We made an offer, they took it, now we have our retirement home that we also use when on vacation. My mother in law will be 86 in four years and i just cant see us leaving her behind in Florida when we move to Georgia and that was also a problem. Not to sure if i want any in laws living with us. I mean, how can you run around the house naked if your in laws are there? The previous owner had built on to accommodate aging parents, so now, if she wants to live with us she will have her own living room, bedroom and bathroom.

Yes i have traveled with a cat and its not a pretty picture. Problem is, the cat cant go to the bathroom so it peed all over my sleeping daughter in the back seat. Hubby being the genus that he is, thought of a way to take the cat (When we had a cat) and not have the bathroom problem. He tied a rope around the cats collar (You thought i was going to say neck didn't you?) then tied the other end to a hammer or something heavy. The cat can run, but wont go far.

I have written another book so better stop now.
    Take care.

Talking about the weather... Well, its been 75 and 82 degress here in kentucky.. then yesterday a lot of storms at 76 degrees.. then today... OH MY.......
SNOW, AT 40 DEGREES..... CAN U BELIVE THAT?? very crazy...lol
    be good all,
    Tru Luvin
  • Hey everyone ~wave~ is this weather weird or what? Two days its in the 80's, then it drops to the 50's during the day and 30's at night? I love the cooler weather but I wish it would make up it's mind. Sheesh.
  • Hey chicks!!

Faye- Im not sure when we're going to come home. I was finally able to talk my Mom into coming here to visit next year. Yay! I know she'll love it and want to stay here. My Dad and his wife might come in November. So, maybe we'll come home for Christmas. I do miss alot of things about home. My family, friends, and walmart
Oh and I have had many pets. Anywhere from monkeys to hedgehogs. I have 3 cats right now. One is in the states. Now, the one in the states did very well driving. At first, he freaked out. We brought a box and made sort of a little cubby hole with a blanket in it. So, he hung out in there for most of the trip.

Kim- what is up with y'alls weather?? Thats so crazy!! Its been a steady 80 degrees here. Very nice. Cant wait til it gets up to 130 in July. Wooohoo

I hope yall have a great day!!

    Love,
    Deanne
  • I assume we are getting a cold front coming across from Canada? I know Montana and some parts of Colorado are getting snow, again. Yet North of here, in Michigan, they are in the 80's. *shrug* I don't know what's up. I totally LOVE cold weather, but this is rediculous.
  • Hi All!
Just stumbled onto this thread and thought I would jump in to say howdy!
The two week long derby festival kicked off last night with Thunder Over Louisville, and everyone had to come all bundled up--reminded me of years of ice fishing up north!!

I grew up in Western Ky, and then lived in the Chicago area long enough to learn that vegetables DO NOT have to be deep fried to be edible!! I am now back in Ky, just south of Louisville.

The South can be great, but the good-ole-boy politics can make a person crazy!

Have a great, chilly Sunday y'all!!!

    Joetta
  • Hi Joetta, and welcome. I was raised on everything fried too. Now I hardly (maybe 1 to 2 times a year) fry anything. I sure love fried foods though.

This morning it was in the 30's. It is chilly outside. Of course, I planted my garden and then I heard a forst warning was out last night. I think we missed the frost though. Shew! I am soooooooo ready for summer. Mentally, that is. And I am on my way to being physically ready. Wish I was already there!
Truluvin! YOU GOT SNOW??? How weird!

Kellbee! I am impressed at all the exercise! Wow! You are right though, something about marriage makes us gain weight. Then kids on top of that really makes the metabolism stop. At least it did mine! UGH!

Well, I finally got my kitchen cleaned up from my Friday night job. Good grief. I haven't been still enough to get anything done lately. I have a HUGE mound of laundry to do!!!

Deanne, how fun to have your family coming to see you! I know you have told me before, but how long have you been there? Have you been able to come home and visit any since you were there?

Gloria, how exciting to find a house you love? And one to retire in?? That is great! I would love to retire somewhere on a lake. Or the mountains...or better yet, a lake in the mountains! My hubby is 42 and I am alomost 38, so we have a long time to go. I do think about it though.

I went to dinner with some old friends last night. They live out in the boonies and all that was around was Sonic and a BBQ place. I ordered the meat and some slaw and baked beans. I didn't touch the bread or desert. It wasn't exactly SBD friendly I don't think, but I could have done worse.

Well, I have my best friends little girl right now (she is 2). They went to see a house and didn't feel like taking their toddler with them ( I don't blame them). She wants to move here to Hernando, and he really doesn't. We will see what happens. It would sure be nice to have my best friend here though. She struggles with her weight as well, so we could be really good support for eachother. I am keeping my fingers crossed!

    Talk to ya'll later!
  • 5_dogs-I'm not really on a specific diet. I've been trying to follow the FDA food guide pyramid while keeping my calorie count down. This was seeming to go well until the FDA changed the dang pyramid last week. So far I haven't lost any weight, but I can tell the my clothes are fitting a little better. (Nothing beats needing to tighten your belt up another notch). I have a short attention span, so atkins and SB didn't hold my attention long enough. However, w/ the pyramid, I try to focus on well rounded, nutritiuos items. Plus, when I track my food intake throughout the day, I can check off items (like 3 cups of fruit, 6 oz of meat or beans), and I know what I need to eat instead of what I can't eat. I guess I'm a goal oriented person w/o self control!
  • morning ladies! Hope you are all well!

Kell: I heard on a news program there is something like 12 pyramids now that you have to wade through and it depends on age, exercise level etc. Sometimes I think the government ought to just give up and say, "Hey, we have no idea what the best diet is, what foods to eat and what ones to avoid, just EAT!" I mean, one minute, Atkins is awful then king, then fat and cal counting is the way to go, then it isn't, and on and on. I watched something on I think it was Dateline about how much your mind plays in. It was pretty interesting to see the tests they did on people and how your mind controls how you eat pretty much.

It is still pretty chilly here today. Doesn't look like we are going to get much sun either. I will be glad when we get a permanent warm up for the season. Our pool opens up Memorial Day so I am looking forward to that as I spend an hour in the pool everyday and enjoy it very much. It is easier than anything on the joints to do exercise.

O2: BBQ is definitely not a diet food! Sometimes you just have to go with the flow and do the best you can with the circumstances you are in. It is the pits that so many of us have to struggle everyday with food decisions and can't just eat what we want. They need to do research on whether people truly OVEREAT or just plain eat badly all the time.

We spent a pretty quiet weekend at home. Just kind of stayed in and watched movies and such this weekend. I was going to go out and get stuff to make myself an upside-down tomato plant. I would love home grown tomatoes, but I am the only one that eats them as dh hates tomatoes so I would only want to grow one plant. A guy my dh works with told him he grows upside-down tomato plants so thought I would give it a try, but my allergies were bothering me on Sunday along with old age aches and pains so we didn't go. I need to get the stuff though before I get outside the growing period. I DO NOT have a green thumb at all so who knows if it would grow or not!

I guess I better go and check on the laundry. I have all the chores done for the day so I am going to get my book and read for awhile

    Faye
  • gma--what is an upside tomato plant? i live in an apartment, and though I love to garden, I don't have much luck on my patio w/ tomato plants. That sounds like something I might be able to do...
  • I am exhausted. One of my dogs has epilepsy and last night she had nine seizures. They started around 11:30 P.M. and finely at 2 A.M. this morning she was able to lay down and sleep from pure exhaustion. My house smells like dog pee (Extreme yuck) because she has no control over her bowels when having a seizure. All i can do is hold her and clean up the mess before the next wave starts. I was able to get some rest from 2 to 6 this morning when i was awaken with the sound of Sky (My dog) having another one. If you've never seen a dog after a seizure, well let me tell you it ant pretty. First Sky tries to get up but acts like she's drunk and literally walks into walls. Then i guess she feels another one coming on and tries to get behind the furniture where she feels safe but unfortunately knocks over anything that might be in her way. Sky is normally a very sweet dog but after a seizure, its almost like having a wild dog in the house. Doesn't know who i am, where she's at and wanders from room to room just looking for something but i don't know what.
Sky has had seizures before but never this bad. I called my vet this morning and he put her on phenobarbital which she will have to take the rest of her life.

OMG Fay, you are so funny. Thanks for the good laugh. After last night i needed something to lift my spirits.

I am also growing tomatoes. I only have the one plant and its in a very large pot. It has about twenty tomatoes now and three of the are turning red. Have you ever made your own tomato sauce? We have a small produce stand close by our house and one day last week tomatoes were on sale for 19 cents a pound. Wow, what a deal! I bought as many as i could carry on old blue my bike and made my own pizza sauce that day. YUMM'O. I cooked boneless, skinless chicken breast in the sauce and it was wonderful. Very juicy.

I'm getting very sleepy and am starting to miss spell a lot of words so am going to take a nap.
    Later.
    Gloria
  • Kell: From what I understand, you take a nice size clay pot (at least 5" from what I am told,) make the drain hole bigger and stick the green part of the plant through the hole with the roots sticking up in the pot. Pot with soil like you would regularly. I guess the thing grows down and then up the sides of the pot. You do have to hang the pot I guess instead of it being on the ground. That would only make sense. I have never done this so you are taking your tomatoes into your own hands, so to speak....... My question to my dh is don't the tomatoes fall off the vine when they get heavy???? I will let you know when he gets me an answer!

5dogs: What did I say that was funny? I am so sorry for your poochy. I had one like that about 13 years ago and we had him put to sleep. I just couldn't stand watching him go through that. He also had tumors/cysts and was 14 years old. Our animals become our family and it is so tough to see them go through things. It is also so expensive nowadays unless you have that new medical insurance for your animals and I think it is expensive. That's why, in my opinion, people are stupid to get animals unless they are prepared for about $1000 a year in expense between good food, checkups, shots, heartworm and flea stuff etc. That doesn't even count extras like blanket, beds, carriers, clothes etc you might buy. My doggie car seat cost me around $70 I think and the harness was another $20 or so. Fortune was bought at a breeder and weighed about 1 1/2 lbs. He was so little I could put him in my coat pocket and carry him. I could also put doll clothes on him! I think he weighs about 9 lbs now and is just the right size except the cat "bosses" him around and harrasses him sometimes. Our cat weighs about 18 lbs and likes to torment our poor Yorkie. Fortune is this big wuss. He rarely barks, doesn't ever growl except at Butterscotch when he has jumped from hiding place onto his back, hasn't ever bit or even nipped at anyone including my grandson when he was little, and loves to be babied. He always wants to be near a human, on their lap, next to them or whatever. He sleeps with us in bed and had to be cuddled up next to one of us (usually me of course) then the cat jumps his chubby body onto the bed and I end up sleeping without covers! The cat sees me as its mother because he was abandoned out in a wooded area (state park area) where there are coyotes etc. I don't like cats and never wanted one, but I let dh bring him home because we couldn't get anyone to take him including rescue shelters. They wanted anywhere from $125 to $300 to take him. I babied him because he had been abandoned so now he is my "child." I have taught him to sit for treats, he allows me to mess with his ears etc, which from what I understand, most cats don't like and he loves to have his tail gently pulled on, sort of like you would strip an ear of corn. He will come over to you and shake his tail at you to get you to do it. I also taught him to roll over and that is hilarious to see him roll over and over.

Well, mail is probably here and I have neighbor kids who steal the mail from mailboxes and put them in other people's etc so I need to go check

    Take care today

    Faye
  • This is what i thought was so funny. ("Hey, we have no idea what the best diet is, what foods to eat and what ones to avoid, just EAT!")

Fay, I forgot to answer your question on how we travel with five dogs. Hubby has a big honken ram truck with an extended cab so when we travel with our dogs, two go in the extended cab, two sit on the armrest and Zoey my miniature dachshund (and also my baby) sits on a pillow on my lap. We don't use car carriers because we have taught our dogs to behave while traveling. We have NEVER hit any of our dogs, but the tone of voice we use does the trick. Also, Carl and i are always love'n on them, (Kisses and hugs) so when they don't behave, the kisses and hugs stop for a couple of days. We've taught them that in order to get there tummy rubbed, they have to mind there manners.

Sky just had another seizure so i just don't know what I'm going to do. We are going on vacation in a week and i just don't want to deal with loosing my Sky when were up in Ga. I am hoping the pills will work so we wont have to put her down.

    Talk to you later.

  • Hey everyone How's it going? Kinda bored here - have tons of washing to do, but don't wanna

Lost 1lb this week Thought it would have been more, but oh well

I don't know about anyone else, but this weather is funky. I love it, but it's still funky. My girls don't like it but oh well.

I know one thing I will be SO glad when the 'maters come in. I hate these hot house ones. I am so craving a 'mater sandwich.
