I asked the question about the wrapping paper because I'm known to spend more on the paper & ribbon then the gift! No really...I LOVE to buy fancy paper and buy matching bows, ribbons and gift cards.
Shelley, Our last day of school is Tuesday. It's a half day. When the kids leave at 11:30, we're having our staff Christmas party. Then we won't have to go back until Jan.5th. I can't believe you work all next week!! :)Happy Birthday Allison!! :) Tell Mommy to give you a big b/day hug from me!! Where Is Everyone????? Please Post Soon!!!!! |
Allison says thank you for the birthday wishes!!!!! She opened present from us earlier...tomorrow we will have the party with the Grandparents.
I LOVE pretty packages! I'm thrifty though...usually I go with victorian like designs and just use one matching bow. I use the little self sticking labels. The nice thing with Steve off the week of Christmas~~~he will do all the wrapping! I just sit one thing at a time out in front of him and he does the rest! Shelley, your outfit sounds very pretty and festive! I KNOW you will look gorgeous! I finished all the Hospice cards, I have until Jan. 10 to do the special order, so I will wait until after Christmas. CLEANING HOUSE TODAY~~~~CAN YOU SAY YUCK!!!! :-) |
Where Is Everyone????????
We had a fun day with Debbie & James. I bought 4 gifts...Woo-Hoo....On a roll now!! It did help me get in the Christmas spirit some. Remember last year when we did Christmas Carols? I thought it would be neat to do it again....I'll start...Please join in! :D :) Rudolf, the red-nosed reindeer had a very shiny nose. And if you ever saw him, you would even say it glows. All of the other reindeer used to laugh and call him names. They never let poor Rudolf play in any reindeer games. Then one foggy Christmas eve Santa came to say: "Rudolf with your nose so bright, won't you guide my sleigh tonight?" Then all the reindeer loved him as they shouted out with glee, Rudolf the red-nosed reindeer, you'll go down in history! :) |
Sherry-Thank you for the card. Your family looks wonderful! Who is the Santa in the picture?
I couldn't find a thing yesterday when I went shopping. I've never been this much of a last minute shopper before. I figure I'll see it when the time is right, though. The wedding I went to yesterday was wonderful and laid back. It was at the Holiday Inn. There was not a dry eye in the house, since this was the 2nd wedding for my friend and long overdue (her first husband died when her daughter was 18 months old and now she is 14). I ate probably 20 points just in the snacks there. I guess I'm not used to eating fried foods, because my stomach was really hurting by the time I got home. Quite a few people from school were there and we all had a great time. The bride and groom rented a hotel room for the daughter and some of her friends, so Patty spent the night there. I have to get her before she goes to work today. |
:merry:
:) Tennessee Christmas :) Come on, weather man, give us a forecast snowy white Can't you hear the prayers of every childlike heart tonight Rockies are calling, Denver snow falling Somebody said it's four feet deep But it doesn't matter, give me the laughter I'm gonna choose to keep. Another tender Tennessee Christmas The only Christmas for me Where the love circles around us Like the gifts around our tree Well, I know there's more snow up in Colorado Than my roof will ever see But a tender Tennessee Christmas is the only Christmas for me. Every now and then I get a wandering urge to see Maybe California, maybe Tinsel Town's for me There's a parade there, we'd have it made there Bring home a tan for New Year's Eve Sure sounds inviting, awfully exciting Still I think I'm gonna keep. Another tender Tennessee Christmas The only Christmas for me Where the love circles around us Like the gifts around our tree Well, they say in L.A. it's a warm holiday It's the only place to be But a tender Tennessee Christmas is the only Christmas for me. :merry: |

Great idea Sherry!
How many gifts do all of you usually buy your family members? Steve & I do 3 presents each which could even have more then 1 thing in the box, then we get 1 gift each from the kids. We try to do it so the kids will have more stuff to unwrap, they usually end up with 6 things from us and 1 from each other, plus the Santa gift. Also, I grew up were the one thing we really wanted came from Santa on Christmas morning, this gift would be unwrapped and just sitting there for us to see. Steve grew up not getting any Santa gifts other then his stocking would be filled from Santa. Those of you that celebrate Christmas, how did you grow up doing it and how have have you continued through your own families? One of my all time favorite songs heard at Christmas, but I like it anytime of the year. In fact, we played the Barry Manilow version at our wedding. Ave Maria Ave Maria Gratia plena Maria, gratia plena Maria, gratia plena Ave, ave dominus Dominus tecum Benedicta tu in mulieribus Et benedictus Et benedictus fructus ventris Ventris tuae, Jesus. Ave Maria, gratia plena Maria, gratia plena Maria, gratia plena Ave, ave dominus Dominus tecum Ave Maria Mater Dei Ora pro nobis peccatoribus Ora pro nobis Ora, ora pro nobis peccatoribus Nunc et in hora mortis Et in hora mortis nostrae Et in hora mortis nostrae Et in hora mortis nostrae Ave Maria Ave Maria, gratia plena Maria, gratia plena Maria, gratia plena Ave, ave dominus Dominus tecum |
This one seems to put me in the holiday spirit!!!!
Winter Wonderland Sleigh bells ring are you listening in the lane snow is glistening A beautiful sight we're happy tonight walking in a winter wonderland Gone away is the bluebird here to stay is a new bird He sings a love song as we go along walking in a winter wonderland In the meadow we can build a snowman Then pretend that he is Parson Brown He'll say: Are you married? we'll say: No man But you can do the job when you're in town Later on we'll conspire as we dream by the fire To face unafraid the plans that we've made walking in a winter wonderland In the meadow we can build a snowman and pretend that he's a circus clown We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman until the all the kids knock him down When it snows ain't it thrilling Though your nose gets a chilling We'll frolic and play the Eskimo way walking in a winter wonderland Walking in a winter wonderland walking in a winter wonderland |
I just got home from my Aunts. She lives about 2 hours from me. Dad's side of the family was all there. We had a great meal and I enjoyed visiting all my cousins.
Shelley.....The wedding sounded nice. I love simple, nice weddings. nothing too big or fancy. The room for the kids sounded too cool! BTW: The Santa in the picture is one of those animated talking ones.Mom bought it for us last year after Christmas. Debbie....I love your songs.... especially the Tennesee Christmas one! We had a great time yesterday shopping, eating, playing cards and LAUGHING!! Gayle....I love "Walking In A Winter Wonderland!!!" That's one of my favorites! I haven't heard of the other one. I couldn't read it either because it wasn't in English. My childhood memories that I carried on to my children: We would get 1 big gift from "Santa" that was left unwrapped under the tree like you Gayle. Then everything else would be wrapped up from Mom & Dad. Dee......I have been thinking so much of you lately. PLEASE have Larry post us a quick reply and tell us how you are!! I love & Miss you so much!!!! Carol.....Did you runaway on your b/day???? I sure miss you!! Ramona....I know you must be having a very rough time right now with your boys gone and I'm sure you're thinking of your Mom. Please know that your Mom is wanting you to have a nice Christmas.Would you please drop in for just a second and say hi so I won't worry. I'm very concerned about you. HUGS!!!!! Love you!!! Vicki, Cheryl & Doni.....Did you leave us? If you're lurking out there...please know that I'm thinking of you and wish you would post! Did I leave anyone out? If so...please forgive me. Here's my song for today: Oh little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by Yet in they dark streets shineth, the everlasting light The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight. For Christ is born of Mary, and gathered all above While mortals sleep the angels keep their watch of wondering love Oh morning stars together, proclaim the holy birth. And praises sing to God the king, and peace to men on earth. How silently, how silently, the wondrous gift is given So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of his heaven No ear may hear his coming, but in this world of sin Where meek souls will receive him still, the dear Christ enters in. Oh holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us we pray Cast out our sin and enter in, be born in us today We hear the Christmas angels, the great glad tidings tell O come to us, abide with us, our lord Emanuel. |
:merry:
The Christmas Shoes It was almost Christmas time, there I stood in another line Tryin' to buy that last gift or two, not really in the Christmas mood Standing right in front of me was a little boy waiting anxiously Pacing 'round like little boys do And in his hands he held a pair of shoes His clothes were worn and old, he was dirty from head to toe And when it came his time to pay I couldn't believe what I heard him say Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time You see she's been sick for quite a while And I know these shoes would make her smile And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight He counted pennies for what seemed like years Then the cashier said, "Son, there's not enough here" He searched his pockets frantically Then he turned and he looked at me He said Mama made Christmas good at our house Though most years she just did without Tell me Sir, what am I going to do, Somehow I've got to buy her these Christmas shoes So I laid the money down, I just had to help him out I'll never forget the look on his face when he said Mama's gonna look so great Sir, I want to buy these shoes for my Mama, please It's Christmas Eve and these shoes are just her size Could you hurry, sir, Daddy says there's not much time You see she's been sick for quite a while And I know these shoes would make her smile And I want her to look beautiful if Mama meets Jesus tonight I knew I'd caught a glimpse of heaven's love As he thanked me and ran out I knew that God had sent that little boy To remind me just what Christmas is all about |
OOOPPPSS! Here's the English version like we had at our wedding. It is such a peaceful and beautiful song...
Ave Maria In English Sweet Lord of giving Teach me the meaning of your love Show me the way of true contentment and wash the burden of dought from my soul Take my fear, replace it with knowledge devine Though I'm weak make me strong Each day I'll be more understanding Each day more patient and peaceful within and faith will lead me closer to wisdom Let wisdom deliver me closer to Him |
Debbie, the songs are pretty! I'm not familar with TN Christmas or hard candy Christmas, it seems like I've heard the Christmas shoes. I usually do better just hearing the song compared to trying to recognize the lyrics.
|
WooHoo! I'm down another lb. I really do so much better when I am WW online!
|
Great Job Shelley! I Love The New Ticker! Thumbs Up To You!!!!!
|
Hi everyone. Sorry to be such a stranger. I just haven't really had anything to talk about. I hope you are all doing well and that your families are healthy and happy as well. I think about you all everyday.
Here is one of my favorite songs. It is by Sarah McLachlan and it is hauntingly beautiful. I wish you could hear her sing it because the words alone just don't convey what a beautiful song it is. "SONG FOR A WINTER'S NIGHT" The lamp is burnin' low upon my table top The snow is softly falllin' The air is still within the silence of my room I hear your voice softly callin' If I could only have you near To breathe a sigh or two I would be happy just to hold the hand I love Upon this winter's night with you. The smoke is rising in the shadows overhead My glass is almost empty I read again between the lines upon the page The words of love you sent me If I could know within my heart That you were lonely too I would be happy just to hold the hands I love Upon this winter night with you. The fire is dying now, my lamp is growing dim The shades of night are liftin' The mornin' light steals across my windowpane Where webs of snow are driftin'. If I could only have you near To breathe a sigh or two I would be happy just to hold the hands I love And to be once again with you To be once again with you. Well, they are actually calling for snow for us on Wednesday and again on Christmas Eve. I'll believe it when I see it. We almost never get snow, especially on Christmas. The last time we did was 7 years ago. I remember because it was the day after Christmas, right after my mother-in-law's funeral. Better get back to work now. I PROMISE I will post again in the next couple of days! |
Beautiful song Ramona. This probably sounds morbid, but my family has all been told of a song Sarah sings that I want played at my funeral.
Just made it back home from driving the sleigh... Steve dressed up like Santa tonight for a couple of childrens parties. We used big pillows and shipping tape to make a stomach and body like St. Nick. Every time he moved, he made a crinkling sound, but I don't think the kids noticed. LOL! |
Merry Christmas!!!
It's Beginning To Look Alot Like Christmas It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas Everywhere you go; Take a look in the five-and-ten, Glistening once again With candy canes and silver lanes aglow. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, Toys in every store, But the prettiest sight to see Is the holly that will be On your own front door. A pair of hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots Is the wish of Barney and Ben; Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk Is the hope of Janice and Jen; And Mom and Dad can hardly wait For school to start again It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas Everywhere you go; And, there's a tree in the Grand Hotel, One in the park as well, The sturdy kind that doesn't mind the snow. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas; Soon the bells will start, And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing Right within your heart. ---- Instrumental Interlude ---- A pair of hopalong boots and a pistol that shoots Is the wish of Barney and Ben; Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk Is the hope of Janice and Jen; And Mom and Dad can hardly wait For school to start again It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas; Soon the bells will start, And the thing that will make them ring is the carol that you sing Right within your heart. |
:sman: Rocking around the Christmas tree
at the Christmas party hop Mistletoe hung where you can see every couple tries to stop Rocking around the Christmas tree, let the Christmas spirit ring Later we'll have some pumpkin pie and we'll do some caroling. You will get a sentimental feeling when you hear Voices singing let's be jolly, deck the halls with boughs of holly Rocking around the Christmas tree, have a happy holiday Everyone dancing merrily in the new old-fashioned way.:sman: |
Gayle.... Tender Tennessee Christmas is sung by Amy Grant. Hard Candy Christmas is an old song sung by Dolly Parton. The Christmas Shoes came out a few years ago and they even made a movie for TV about it.
Another Favorite of mine is: :merry: Christmas in Dixie By now in New York City. There's snow on the ground. And out in California. The sunshines' falling down. And maybe down in Memphis, Graceland's all in lights. And in Atlanta, Georgia, there's peace on earth tonight. Christmas in Dixie. It's snowing in the pines. Merry Christmas from Dixie to everyone tonight. It's windy in Chicago. The kids are out of school. There's magic in Motown. The city's on the move. In Jackson, Mississippi to Charlotte, Caroline. And all across the Nation, its a peaceful Christmas time. Christmas in Dixie. Its snowing in the pines. Merry Christmas from Dixie, to everyone tonight. And from Fort Payne, Alabama... Merry Christmas tonight. |
I think I like the popular version better.
Dashing through the snow
On a one-horse open sleigh, Over the fields we go, Laughing all the way; Bells on bob-tail ring, making spirits bright, What fun it is to ride and sing A sleighing song tonight Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way! O what fun it is to ride In a one-horse open sleigh A day or two ago, I thought I'd take a ride, And soon Miss Fanny Bright Was seated by my side; The horse was lean and lank; Misfortune seemed his lot; He got into a drifted bank, And we, we got up sot. Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way! What fun it is to ride In a one-horse open sleigh. A day or two ago, the story I must tell I went out on the snow And on my back I fell; A gent was riding by In a one-horse open sleigh, He laughed as there I sprawling lie, But quickly drove away. Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way! What fun it is to ride In a one-horse open sleigh. Now the ground is white Go it while you're young, Take the girls tonight And sing this sleighing song; Just get a bob-tailed bay two-forty as his speed Hitch him to an open sleigh And crack! you'll take the lead. Jingle Bells, Jingle Bells, Jingle all the way! What fun it is to ride In a one-horse open sleigh. |
Ooooo, Debbie, I luv me some Alabama!
Sherry--your family is absolutely gorgeous! Sorry I've been not around lately. I worked away from my office until around 4:00 yesterday, and then, because I had "wasted" almost a whole day, wound up working until 7:30 last night! Busy, Busy!! I'm thinking everyone is going to get their Christmas cards from me sometime in February! Carol--loved the card you sent. Had a blonde moment when I opened it. Couldn't figure out that it opened accordian style. Duh. Love all, Cheryl |
Cheryl, are you going home for the holiday?
I need advice from you girls about a family situation. I have a niece who is married to a VERY controlling man. He is the type of person that will refuse to take part in any family activities if it is something he chooses not to do. We all TOLERATE him because of the niece (I think she suffers the wrath of his mouth if she or anyone goes against his wishes) My mom is hosting Christmas, but it is at our house because of her age. I asked them to come here for Christmas, but they refused, they want to stay home with the kids that day as a tradition. I offered suggestions to make it work, but it is a "no go" Now the worse problem....they home school so they can protect their kids from the evils of the world, they have no life other then the church and their church family. So my kids are already "ruined" because they attend a public school. The ages of their two kids are 6 and 4....they want to stress the religous meaning of Christmas which I'm ok with but they have now told their kids there is no such thing as Santa. He use to be around as St. Nick and he did good things for people, but that was years ago and he is no longer around. They will be here the day after Christmas and I'm wondering how to handle the situation without any hurt feelings? My little one is the same age and I'm almost positive her little cousins will want to share their knowledge of Santa. What can I say to get my point across but yet not make everyone mad? I think it is unfair of them to take the "magic" away from the kids at such a young age. We still have Liz play along with the Santa stuff for the benefit of her younger sister. I know I need to really watch it because signs are there of him trying to alienate her from the family. I finished the ornaments today! About time, the party is at 1:00 Wednesday!!! :-) |
Gayle-I wish I had an answer for you, but being Jewish, I don't. My children used to believe in Santa, and I never ever told them that there wasn't one. I just told them that Santa only delivers candy on Christmas to Jewish children (I used to get a Christmas stocking for each of them filled with chocolate for Christmas morning.) I'm sure the other girls here will have some good advice for you.
|
Gayle--I had a whole long post typed to you and accidentally deleted it. Probably better. I hope that things work out for you.
Shelley--nothing wrong with a stocking full of chocolate for Christmas--Jewish or Christian!!! IMHO I don't really think Santa has anything at all to do with religion. But he does personify the spirit of "giving." Cheryl |

My gosh, Doni, sounds to me like you are SO MUCH BETTER OFF without that PSYCHO!!!!!
Don't cry over the loss of someone like that! |
Doni-I agree with Cheryl. The "friend" sounds like a psycho. Sounds like she just wants to be your friend when she wants something from you. With friends like that, who needs enemies??
|
I'm beat! I just finished making meatballs from 6 pounds of meat...do you all know how many meatballs that is? I learned today!!!!! LOL! I will never double a recipe again!
Actually the meatballs are for Christmas day at both sets of family along with banana bread and cinnamon bread and a veggie cob-salad. I am tired of cooking! now if only a little kitchen fairy would come by and do these dratted dishes! Snow here today! It is very brisk! Only in the teens last time I checked, with the wind chill, it seems like below zero. Everyone done Christmas shopping??? I wrapped more presents today too...I'll be glad when Christmas is over so I can take a break!!! LOL! Hope everyone is doing super, love, Gayle |
Gayle-Would you believe I still haven't decided on what to do about MIL? We were going to do a Xmas cactus, but can't find 1 anywhere. All I have right now is a picture of Becky. Any hints on something last minute I can do? I think Mike and I will go out sometime today to find some kind of plant. We gave her a rose bush last year. What else do you get someone that gets everything at yard sales and has a house full of that lying all over the place?
|
Shelley, if MIL likes candles, how about a high end candle with a brass candle snuffer? We did this last night for a gift. I wrapped the candle in a box then tied ribbon on to the snuffer and attached it to the package. It turned out cute.
Dee, we miss you dearly. I hope you received the cards from me. Wishing you the happiest of holidays possible considering the situation. Dear friends, HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVE! I know a few are you are still bustling around baking and buying presents. Just know I'm thinking of you today! I have CLEANED HOUSE, YUCK! BAKED, YUCK! And WRAPPED PRESENTS, DOUBLE YUCK! Most of all, my wish for you is that you enjoy peace in your lives and your hearts today and throughout the coming year. I hope that love envelopes your lives and that God grant you serenity and bless you all. I will hold you in my heart today and think of the friendship that has blossomed, and continues to bloom, with each stroke of the key and each sentiment that comes to us every day. ramona, man that was beautiful!
shelly, thanks ill be probably be asking questions as im still trying to get the hang of it! hope everyone had a great christmas! love you all! doni |
Ramona-Your post was beautiful.
The board has been slow since the holiday. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas. I am planning on cleaning this week. Not so much the dusting and vacuuming, but cleaning out some of the clutter and cleaning up the bird room floor. The birds sit on their cages and poop on the floor. I used to have mats under the cages, but I moved them. Now I have to deal with the mess under the cages. That should take a day to do that. Today it's off to the eye dr for new glasses after I take a run. My race is this coming weekend and I'm starting to get nervous. My dearest Dee-I hope you had a blessed Christmas. I wish the very best to you and am still praying that you are up on your feet soon. After all, I need help over at the exercise board. I am just talking to myself over there! Doni-Why not join me over at the exercise board? You earn extra points for the day if you do some form of activity. Some days I earn as much as 10 extra points. Today I am hoping to earn 5.
