Feel free to share your favorite Authors, books or your most recent reads or past favorites.


I just finished D is for Deadbeat by Sue Grafton and must say I thought it was quite good. So far I have read A thru E and for the most part they were good. Started on F is for Fugitive but didn't get too far with it. I did get R when I first joined the book club as it was the monthly selection but I won't read it for a while. After F I will be moving on to something different. I think I burned myself out on the detective stories, for now anyway.

So, what have you recently read? Or what are you reading now?

Well, I finished the Sue Grafton books, not all of them but the ones I have except for R. Will save that for another time. DD checked out The DaVinci Code and thought it was really good so I thought I would start on it. It is just a 7 day loan and she finished it yesterday morning and I started it last night. Didn't get too far but I have to return it Wednesday-a lot of reading before then.

I just read Ten Big Ones by Janet Evanovich...you know the Stephanie Plum bounty hunter books. I swear my hubby thinks I am crazy because I sit in my chair and keep giggling. Even had a few outright bellybuster laughs. These books are that funny. I will read a James Patterson book next.

I'm almost at the end of "E is for Evidence" never seems to be enough time during my lunch break!! :D Will be changing authors to give myself a rest. I'm like you Cristina....Sue Grafton writes well, but you just can't keep reading book after book....it would be like a book that never ends! :lol:

I finally finished "E is for Evidence"......I was wrong once again on who did it. I love it when a book can keep me guessing! :D

I just started another book, "Blind Side" by Catherine Coulter...I'm liking it so far Cristina, thank you so much for sending it to me.

I will keep you posted as I go!

Half way through Mary Higgens Clarks book Nightime is my Time. Very good, half way through the book and still no idea of who dunnit.

Angie~what do you think about Nighttime is my Time? Have you finished it? I read that one a while back. I liked it, but then I like all of Mary Higgins Clark. I have been reading her stuff for years.

I am still working on The DaVinci Code and once I am done with that I am starting The Notebook, then The Wedding and The Guardian.

Jane~did you ever read The Guardian? If so did you like it. I finally received it in the mail. Got a deal if I ordered the two (The Wedding & The Guardian) together. Also, got another one but can't remember offhand the name of it. It is along the same lines as those three but a different Author.

I really enjoyed Nighttime is my Time, found it stuck with me for a bit. I am reading another book right now, by Mary Jane Clark,,,,and of course I can't remember it. I then have Sandra Brown's newest book ready in the wings...

I am reading Wedding Ring by Emilie Richards. It is very entertaining so far. I just read The Pilot's Wife by Anita Shreve and enjoyed it alot. My DD gave me a 4 book series by Fern Michaels which I might start next. I can take those with me when we go West if I have to. I always take used books when we travel, just in case I leave one somewhere.... we buy used from the library.

Okay, no one else reading? Am I the only one being lazy? I just finished reading a perfectly lovely book by Debbie Macomber called "The Shop On Blossom Street." It was fairly new to the library. A good book and a feel good ending, a fast read.

Sorry to take so longer answering you, Cristi, but I haven't been to this thread for a while! I like the style of writing the author of The Guardian has, but the book was totally predictable!

I'm reading #3 in the Anne of Green Gables series. I had never read all of them - there're 8! But like some of you, I like to switch authors after 1 or 2 by the same one. I don't have anything else in reserve, so must make a stop at the bookstore in Evansville soon.

I'm still reading Sue, or trying to. Got a little busy and never did finish The DaVinci Code-it had to be returned to the library. I still do want to read it though and will just buy it as I need to be in a mood for that type of reading. I started The Notebook yesterday afternoon and did not put it down till I was done. I have to say it was good and now I want to see the movie. I just love a good love story and this one was a little different, better. It also reminded me of my relationship with DH#1-we were that close and he always wrote me poems that I still have in a photo album. One he had published in a Poetry book. Anyway, going to start The Wedding today and then move on to The Guardian. What 4 series Fern Michaels books are you reading? I just read the Kentucky ones and loved them! And now want to read The Vegas and the other one, can't remember what it was. I had bought the first Kentucky one on sale at the bookstore not knowing till I finished it that it was a series of three and that I should have started the other two series first. Well, you don't necessarily have to start the other ones first but it is about the same family so...one day I will get them and read them.

Jane, that is okay. I have been checking the thread once in a while and didn't see any new posts so haven't posted myself. I have to say I have read all of the Anne of Green Gables and loved them! One of my friends a few years ago had them and told me I should read them. I set them down and then picked one up one day and didn't put them down till I read them all. I also saw the movie/series but didn't like it as much. So did you actually like The Guradian? I do know what you mean about being predictable, I thought the same about the Sue Grafton ones, especially after reading so many in a row!!! I may go back to reading some more of them later, much later but for now I am moving on.

The Notebook was so good it made me want to see the movie but I am struggling to get through The Wedding. You don't have to actually read The Notebook to read The Wedding but Jane is the daughter of Noah and Allie from The Notebook and it refers to some and their love story. We should start rating the books we read, LOL.

Cristi---I'm half way through "Daddy's Girl" Very good so far. I'm really wanting to see how it ends. I can't thank you enough for sending me those books!

Hi Just finished reading Nora Roberts Entranced. Going onto Sandra Browne's newest...
I did a library run a couple of days ago, picked one other book called Spy Girl,,,and laughed so much...its about a woman who becomes a PI, a true story. And boy do I see similarities.
I like Fern Micheals too, and started her woman warrior series,,,well I read the first one and have been waiting for more....

Cristi- The series I have here to start is her Texas series. (Fern) Instead I got another library book by Emilie Richards. I haven't gotten into it yet, and it is due back soon. It might have to go back un-read as I am into sewing some now and lots of walking. Not much time for reading. I will take the series with me when we head West.

Angie~the woman warrior books sound interesting. I love most of Fern Michaels but there have been some I have passed on.

Sue~those were the ones I was trying to think of. There's the texas family, the Vegas family and the Kentucky family.

I finished The Wedding last night and while it started out a bit boring and there were a few parts that bored me the ending was good. Bought a paperback at the grocery store that sounded good to me, On A Snowy Night by Debbie Macomber. Not sure why I bought it as I hardly ever buy paperbacks and I don't really need another book since I still have a few on my shelf to read. Plus I ordered a couple from the club. Oh well, good to try something different every now and then.

Edited: Silly me not sure why I thought that book was written by Jude Deverauix (sp?), maybe because I was looking at some of hers. I didn't start that one yesterday but went to The Guardian then will read On a Snowy Night. Not sure I have read anything of hers before.

I did read the Emilie Richards book, A Parting Glass. Once I started I didn't want to quit. It was very good. I think I will just pick up one of the paperbacks I have here to read this week as I need to make sure I have every library book back for the winter.

I finished "Daddy's Girl" last night. Very good. I stayed up later once I got home to finish it....usually I just read on my breaks at work!

Next is F is for Fugitive....back to Sue Grafton....I have to get these books back to my cousin before she thinks I fell off the earth! :lol:

I love to read!! I have recently read Black Cat the new V.C. Andrews book. Took FOREVER to get through it... and by forever I mean 3 days. lol DH says that I should wait for the whole series to come out and just read it in a weekend. I love love love Piers Anthony's Xanth novels. I am reading something called the Kitchen Witch. Just finished Midnight for Charlie Bone. If you have a kid who liked the Harry Potter books, this one is cute.

For the person who liked the Janet Evanovich books...if you like funny, light reading try thr Shopoholic series by Sophie Kinsella. They really made me laugh. I still love Stephanie Plums novels the best, but sometimes I have to read before she gets another one out. Everyone I have recommended them too have loved them. ANd thses people are all very different.
I love a good book. reading Angry Housewives Eating BOn BOns right now. Anyone read that?

That would be me who likes Janet Evanovich,,,just got mail from her advertisting people about her latest book. And all her stops for book signing.
Will look into your Angry Housewives eating Bon Bons,,,and the Shopohlics...Ive seen but never picked up.

Please tell me it is a Stephanie Plum book??? I know they have re-released a lot of her old stuff but I don't enjoy it that much. Just read Rocky Road to Romance..it was ok at best.

Just picked up another Nora Roberts book at Costco....even thou I have 2 other books waiting for me to pick them up and then bring them back to the library. yikes! I have to say I have doubled my fees there just from late fees....arghhhh

Haven't been in a reading mood lately but I did finally finish On A Snowy Night. I liked it of course goofy me when I bought the book didn't realize that it is actually two stories in one. :doh: Will finish The Guardian next. Haven't been reading it much, not because it is boring but because just haven't been in the mood and have been busy with other stuff. Not sure what I will read after that.

There's my list girls wow that even surprised me , no wonder I don't get any sleep at night.

Ellen how easy it is to get a list going thou if you love books...and have a library card. I have to say I get embarrassed about the amount of times I can go into a library. And there are 2 within the same distance from my house. Monte teases me about always owing late fees to both blockbuster and the library.

Jane~you are right about The Guardian being predictable, of course a lot of books I read or have read are. I am on Chapter 15 but it is a good book, or I think it is. I like a good love story with a few twists. I am dying to see what the freak Richard is going to do. Anyway, hoping to finish it Wednesday night. Not sure what I will read next, got some new books in the mail yesterday and they all sound good, of course or I wouldn't have ordered them.

Angie~there was a woman in the library when we went last and I don't know if she got all those books for her or was going to share but she must have had about 20-25 books if not more. She literally put what she could hold in her arms. That was a lot of reading for 2 weeks!

Ellen~nice list, I have read some of them The Notebook was good and now I want to see the movie. A Woman of Substance, also good. Read Mixed Blessings and a couple other of Danielle Steele but don't really buy any of her stuff. Right now I am on a Fern Michaels, Catherine Coulter, James Patterson and Nicholas Sparks. Oh and read some of the Sue Grafton books, A-F. Took a break from those and didn't think I would read anymore I did order G-K yesterday. Through the bookclub I got them for $5.99 each and they have a special this month no shipping. Can't beat getting 5 books for $29 bucks.

Okay, I finished The Guardian and must say it was good! While I agreed with Jana about it being predictable, the predictable part was that you knew she would end up with the guy in the end. But the rest was totally not predictable. I totally didn't expect everything else that happened, crazy stuff. Don't want to say too much in case others want to read it. On to another book. I am going to start Private Pleasures by Bertrice Small.

did anyone watch Oprah today , if so what did you think of The perricone Promise do you think the book is just another scam ,he did have some valid points didn't you think. Just curious if anyone has read it, tried,and to think it takes ten years off in six weeks well thats darn right enticing .

Didn't have time to respond earlier, but I did see that episode and it did catch my eye!! I'm not sure it's a scam or not, but I figured hey....it' may be worth trying! I mean....10 years off in 6 weeks! that would be fantastic!

WOW 10 yrs in 6 weeks..... if I do 12 weeks I can be sweet 16 again...didnt' watch the show so precisely how do I go about being 16 again.....????

Sorry Ellen, I didn't see the show-don't watch Oprah much at all and can't remember the last time I did in fact watch her. Used to watch both her and Dr. Phil but grew very tired of Dr. Phil and much prefer Ellen D. to Oprah.

Anyway, finished Private Pleasures. It was okay. I think she got carried away with the whole fantasy thing and beware-I would say it is rated X for explicit sex and language. Started Four Blind Mice by James Patterson the other day when I finished the other and while I haven't wanted to put it down I did. When a book is good I get so wrapped up in the story that I want to finish it-can't wait to see what happens.

Ellen, I do love Oprah, and get her live in the mornings from a Chicago station (when it IS live, lol) but now that it's on an hour later, sometimes I forget to tune in. Didn't see the show you mentioned, though. Don't you just love her new look? Kinda Diana Ross-ish, no?

I am still working on Four Blind Mice but took a break from it when I saw a Christmas book in the store. It's The Trouble with Angels and a good Christmasy book, for some reason I am in the mood for those. It's about 3 different people, one lost his wife and seems to have given up on everything, and he is a preacher, the other a divorced woman who hates the ex and is very bitter and wants nothing to do with any man again, and another who is single and is friends with an elderly woman who just so happens to have a nice grandson but who is engaged to this witch of a woman, and throw in the three angels, Shirley, Goodness & Mercy who try to fix it all-cute. A good Christmas book, good for the soul. Going to finish it today.
