Sure is quiet around here
Good morning!
Charlotte, I hope you're feeling better now. It's been a couple days since your treatment, and I know it always kind of knocks you for a loop for a couple of days. I have one more week off work, then back to the salt mines. Take care. |
Wish my life was as quiet as this thread is, right now.
I hope you enjoy your last week of vacation. Do something special for yourself! I went yesterday & got my hair fixed. Then, went & got my nails done & a pedicure. The chair for the pedicure is a massage chair! My back thought it had went to heaven! She is a vietnamese girl...& we can't understand each other talking, very well. We mostly smile a lot. :D She's VERY good at her work. I feel so pampered! I try to do something like that every couple of weeks to keep my spirits up. I may not feel so great...but, my hair, nails & feet look great! Well.......gotta get ready for work. (TGIF) Talk to you later. I miss everyone else. :( |
waiting
For Sheila to return. BUMP!

Sheila, ....
Send ma a PM when you get back. :coffee:

Hello,
Sheila, I hope I am doing this correctly.....Well, if I am not you will get me on the right path o.k.? What an adorable new picture of your granddaughter. See, if I would not have come back to fatchicks, I never would have seen her new picture and how much she has grown. How old is she now. I love her little pigtails. I don't know what the kids call those in this day and age. My granddaughter calls it a pony. :dunno: It looks like we are getting some of that humid, yucky weather, that likes to sweep up here after a tropical storm from the gulf. That kind of weather gives me a headache. I have been so tired all day, I think when I get home from work I will need a nap. I don't like naps at the end of the day like that, because I can't fall asleep when I do finally go to bed. My roses in my rose garden are looking pretty nice this year. I did a lot of pampering of them this summer. We can hardly call what we had a summer though, a lot of cool temperatures and a lot of rain so far, except for today. Some of the grandkids start school next week on the 27th, that and the county fair are a sure sign of the end of summer around here. Well, I hope you all find me again. Bye for now. Bluet :grouphug: Happiness is the sense that one matters. Sarah Timmer |
Hey, you! I log on to start this up again and what do I see! :)
Instead of a nap, have you ever tried walking or doing something physical? I know it sounds kind of contrary, but if you're flagging in energy, sometimes walking will help and then you'll get a burst of energy and will still be able to sleep. Hey, it's a theory I read! That and eating some protein. I have no idea if it works, but I hear you about napping and then trying to fall asleep at night. My Dad says he just can't sleep at night and doesn't know why. Well, most of the time in the afternoon I see him napping in his chair. He doesn't admit that, though. My DH and I were mentioning that we're glad we gave him a chair with arms because he'd be on the floor if the chair weren't holding him up every afternoon. So when do the grandkids come? Yes, those are pigtails on my GD. That photo was taken in February. I have some current pictures that my son sent me, but I haven't scanned them in yet. She'll be four at the end of next month. Hard to believe! She's been around far longer than she was ever supposed to, or we could ever have hoped for. A true miracle. Do you enter stuff in the county fair? I have a cousin who does. Looks like it could be a lot of fun. When I lived in Boise, the State fair always signaled the end of summer. I always went by myself to the fair because I am the only one I know who likes looking at all the exhibits, even the jams and jellies. Hope you find some energy, Bluet! |
Sheila, I took your advice and after supper went outside and worked in my flower gardens. Then I watered everything and now it is raining.
I wonder if it is raining in Green Bay? The Packers are playing the Seahawks at Lambeau tonight. Some of our kids went to the game. DH gave up his tickets to our SIL, because DH doesn't feel like driving home so late tonight after the game. I will go watch it on TV in a little while after I send this email to you. Does DH and Dad follow the Seahawks? When the kids were all at home and we were big into registered Holsteins, we practically lived at the fair. I never entered anything, but the kid always had tons of things entered, plus each would have a heifer or two for the show ring. Talk about testing patience trying to get those things trained to walk right for judging. I can't tell you how many times one child or the other got drug around the yard in their efforts train a heifer for the fair. Grandkids come on Friday the 20th until Monday the 30th. I stopped at their house tonight on my way home. I said something to my daughter in a teasing way about leaving her kids. Her comment was "Sure Mom, make feel more quillty than I do already about leaving the kids." I try my best! ;) I haven't heard from Fatpuss yet, it is pretty late there by now, nor Charlotte. Charlotte may still be laying low from the tropical storms. That sure is a scarey thing. Well talk to you tomorrow. Bluet |
I'm so glad we're back!! Thanks Bluet, & Sheila for bringing us back! I'm also back from my vacation in Gulf Shores! We were concerned about the hurricanes....but, didn't hit there, at all. Back home, all were worried. I kept getting calls from the TV station manager/friend. I finally, just called in on Friday, during the 4pm program that she & I host "Tennessee Valley Now". (news, sports, weather, etc.) I did a "live" weather report over the air by phone from the beach! It was so much fun! Sheila...your granddaughter is a sweetie!! Give her a big hug for me.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...20four/hug.gif Bluet...enjoy your babysitting....all you can, anyway. I've still got a lot of unpacking, etc to do. Just wanted to say hi. I'll be back soon. |
Checking in girls, nice to see the gang back. Caught this as I was going to work so will check in later.
|
Good Morning,
What a sappy softie I am, I am sitting here with big old tears in my eyes. I am so glad you are all here again.! :flow2: I wish I could hug each one of you. I have to go put orders on, just finished payroll will be back later during my lunch break. Bluet |
Hi All,
Well, the sun is trying to peek out at us, at high noon today. We had 1/4" of rain last night with strong winds and cloudy over cast skies this morning. I think my roses have plenty of water now! :dizzy: I haven't been spending much time watching the olympics. Usually I glue myself to all the events, well not all. I am not interested in baseball or basketball for the olympics. Last week we had the PGA Championship about twenty miles south of here and we were all a buzz about it. DH and SIL from Stevens Point attended on Saturday and got very close to some of the big names in golf, Tiger Woods, Vijay Sing, etc. They were all keyed up when they got home Saturday evening. We are starting into the harvest mode on the farm. The winter wheat is off and in storage the straw is baled and we have the soybean, corn and plowing left before winter hits us with it's icy blast. I was working out a plan in my head this morning about how to drain my pond and winter proof it and devise a plan on how to keep all the maple leaves from ending up in it. I hate the yucky job of cleaning out the pond in the spring with all the leaves and melted snow in it. I talked about getting rid of the pond last year, but DH talked me out of it. I must admit I enjoy the pond in the summer. It is that clean up stuff I hate. I really like a new program on the BBC. House Doctor. It is absolutely amazing what that host can do to a home, to get it to look very smart to sell. I think I need her to come to my house, not to get it ready to sell, but to help me come up with a new scheme for decorating. I would like to do some painting this fall, but I can't seem to be able to fit it in my schedule. Well, the front office staff is back from lunch, so I guess I gotta go. Lat : Bluet Happiness is the sense that one matters. Sarah Timmer |
Oh, my goodness, is that Fatpuss I see?? How cool! I'm so glad we're back, too.
Charlotte, you lucked out with the hurricane. How fun to do a live weather report from the beach--bet your listeners loved it. My DH was in Florida (Port Charlotte) last November and it turns out the hotel he stayed at was destroyed as was the building where his meeting was held. The person who was hosting the meeting lost her business, but at least she's alive. Bluet, do you get involved in the farm stuff like harvesting? I love the look of ponds, but I don't know if I could deal with the maintenance issues. Same with swimming pools. Guess I'm rather lazy at heart. Don't mind the fall garden cleanup, though. I'm going to have to check out House Doctor. I've been watching Designed to Sell on HGTV and Sell This House on A&E, which sound all the same. It really is amazing what they can do. Actually, just cleaning really well and putting fresh flowers and candles around helps an awful lot. I started out with Olympic fever, but the constant yammering and commercials are really turning me off. Plus I don't get all that much enjoyment out of watching the preliminaries. I watched beach volleyball (men's) the other day, and it was kind of fun. A grey day here in Seattle. I don't mind much since it's been so hot and sunny for weeks. I've lost a bunch of my new plants in the front yard because of sun damage. Oh, well, I guess some loss is to be expected. Other than those crispy critters, the new front yard is looking really good. Hope everyone has a great Tuesday! |
Hi to all,
Sheila how did the wedding go? Well, I hope . We had to cancel a wedding we were due to attend with four weeks notice because DH is again in Russian state and wedding was in Wales so we had planned to stay over at a country pub. Just thankful the wedding party were able to have others there in our place instead but I so wanted to go as not many people get married these days and it's a couple of years since I went to one. Bluet, I suppose you have to be very organised on a farm preparing for seasons and whathaveyou. Seems strange thinking ahead to the autumn, good job I don't really need to I suppose because I wouldn't be very good at it. House Doctor is brilliant and the only 'home improvement' show I watch. It finished about a year ago over here but it's an American lady, Ann Maurice, who does it and she is so good. Seems she started off in real estate and went into design. She has a wonderful San Fransico house on a hill and a fabulous place in Mexico too. I like the way she is so direct, tells people their house stinks of dog or they have awful colour taste. The houses sell though after her visit. Speaking of which, must go and empty the kitty litter tray before I go to bed. |
Sheila
Just noticed new picture of your sweetie, she has grown and become even more gorgeous than ever, you must be so proud of her. |
Hi Fatpuss,
Glad to see you back again. I was very happy to see that scraggly little grey cat jumping up and down again. Bluet |
1 Attachment(s)
Yup, I've missed that scraggly grey cat, too. :)
So, I saw a horrible news story from Cornwall. There were photos of what looked like a raging river running right through the streets--quite scary. Hopefully that doesn't happen often. I've seen photos of floods over here, but it's all just high water, not rivers running through town. I hope there was no loss of life. The wedding was nice, stressful, but nice. I think Erin was paralyzed by so many things to do. We arrived about 10 days early, and after spending the weekend in Washington DC, my DH and I got down to business and ordered the cake, arranged for the beauty salon, took Erin to buy shoes for herself and the bridesmaids, and did a bunch of other stuff that they should have done before we got there, but didn't. We had a fun time with her slip. She bought it here in Seattle, but the place didn't order it in a timely manner and so they ended up sending it overnight via UPS. The day before the wedding she waited at her apartment for it. When we got there that day, there was a slip of paper from UPS saying they'd attempted delivery--NOT! They didn't even knock on the door. The paper said they would redeliver on Monday. Yikes! Erin had a mini meltdown. Her Dad called and arranged to pick it up at 8:00 pm, but that was right in the middle of the rehearsal dinner. Then he arranged it for 5:00 pm, but that was right in the middle of the rehearsal. Then he called and we were told to meet the driver in vacant shopping mall behind a Burger King at 3:00 pm. He had to drop me off about 2:45 pm there to wait because he had to do something else and didn't know if he'd make it back by 3:00 pm. So here I am standing in the parking lot of a vacant strip mall behind a Burger King feeling like I'm waiting to make a drug deal. The guy eventually came, although at the other end of the parking lot, and I gave him the delivery slip in exchange for the package. The whole thing was kind of like that--I guess no wedding is perfect, but Erin looked so happy walking down that aisle that nothing else really mattered. |
Good Morning,
I wonder how close Cornwall is to Fatpuss's home? Another tropical type day here. Warm and humid. Thank you for the good advice Sheila, I will give that a try. Everyone have a good day. Talk to you later. Bluet |
Hi again and thanks for missing the manic old grey cat - I missed seeing him myself. Sheila, your picture is lovely, both looking very glamourous. What a carry on over UPS ...don't think I could take the strain of it all not to mention all the other last minute stuff you had to organise. Hope my DD elopes. You, dear Bluet, have already been through this with your DDs, haven't you. My DD loved her trip to the US, she flew to Chicago then onto Las Vegas. She stayed at the Luxor in Vegas and the photos are incredible. Her and her boyfriend then drove and stayed for a few days at Yosemite Park thenstayed at the YMCA in San Francisco (did the bay and rock tour) and Santa Monica in Los Angeles before flying back from Los Angeles airport via Boston. Anyway, she had a lovely time and found the Americans so friendly. I am the proud owner of a letter opener from Lee's Frontier Chevron 1900 S.Main St. Lone Pine, CA 93545 - seems a nice guy there loved her English accent and gave her one of these for each of her family. Very sweet.
We are a four hour drive from Cornwall thank heavens. My DH being a meteorologist and paranoid about global warming and flooding so he always insists we buy a house either on a hill or nowhere near a flat plain or flood gully. Remarkably, no one was even injured in the Cornish floods but there are areas in the UK which regularly flood like the flat areas around the south east coasts of Cambridgeshire. Wonder where the rest of the tribe are on this site? Hope you both have a good evening. x |
I'm so glad your DD enjoyed her visit to the U.S. Did she mention how hot it was in Las Vegas and how cold it probably was in San Francisco? What parts of her trip did she like best and least? I love visiting San Francisco. I like the letter opener story--what a nice guy! If I ever go through Lone Pine (wherever that might be), I'll have to stop and say I heard about him all the way from the U.K.
Yup, we really fall for those English accents. Did you ever see the movie "Love Actually?" It was kind of cute, but one of the funniest parts was the guy who couldn't get a date in London so he went to the midwestern U.S. because he'd heard that girls really like English accents, and he comes back to London with three hot girls in tow! We live on a hill, too, but it was just happenstance. I'm glad that nobody was hurt. Those photos were just so horrendous that I had a flood dream last night. Yuck! Hope everyone is having a great day! Sunny and warm here, but not too warm yet. |
Hi All,
I went to my Yahoo News site and pulled up the flood in Cornwall. I viewed 135 shots of Cornwall after the flood. Terrible thing. So much destruction and cars piled on top of each other. I looked at the Florida situation too. What a sad horrific mess. You can imagine all the ribbing DH and I had last week with Bonnie and Charley ravaging the East Coast. Glad you and yours are ok Fatpuss. I too was wondering how your daughter liked the United States. I am glad to hear the Americans were good to them and they they enjoyed their stay. Yah, we are really big suckers for the English accent. I saw Love, Actually too. a really fun movie. We have thunderstorms threatening this afternoon. I figured that with the way the wind was whipping around and as humid as it is. My daughter from next door called me this morning and said she had the day off and could she stop over and drop off food and clothing for the kids ahead of time. So get ready guys, those grandchildren are a coming to Grandma's house at the end of the week. I want to go to the library to do some research tonight after work. I will have to get it done either tonight or tomorrow night, otherwise I won't be able to get it done for 10 days. I haven't been able to read any bodice rippers for most of the summer. I guess that is what the long winters are for around here. Well, at least winters are good for something. Take care all :grouphug: Bluet |
***Hello there Gals!!!!***

SunnyD,
I was just thinking this morning, wouldn't it be nice if SunnyD came back to the fold again, but thought oh, that's an outside chance, she is so busy. Well, I signed on to my e-mail box and what did I see, but a post from SunnyD, well the old water works started up again. How very nice to hear from you again, I sure missed you. Bluet hmmmmmm, where's our Charlotte today? |
http://img61.photobucket.com/albums/.../thosedays.gif Glad I got some rest last week. This week doesn't look hopeful. :( Monday was veeerrrrrryyy llllooooooooonnnngggg!! Then Tuesday, I spent 4 hrs in the Drs office. NOT the waiting area, so I could read a magazine....but, back with the dr & nurses. I go each 3 mos. for a check up with my general Dr. He takes advantage of having me there, to check everything out. Just WEARS me out! :^: Last night I never did go to sleep. Spent all night at the computer. So....of course, felt terrible today. I've noticed a pattern of insomnia about a week before my Remicade treatment. I go Tuesday (24th). Anyway, had to take step-dad to DR at 8:30 AM this morning....almost 3 hrs. Rushed home to put in a load of clothes....choke down some crackers & water, (I've gained 10 lbs!!!!!!), then rush to work. I don't feel good....I need a vacation! Hello SunnyD....so glad to hear from you. Bluet....girl, you really got something started back, here! http://img61.photobucket.com/albums/...zycongrats.gif Hello Fatpuss...So good to hear from you....& yes...I like to see the cat jumping too! Hi Sheila!!...hope all is well with you. Did you get your yard finished? Maybe you could post more pics for us. Soooo tired! Hope all have a good eveni http://img61.photobucket.com/albums/...wo/Hugs_34.gif |
****Goooood Morning!****
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../CatComphy.jpg :coffee2: A very Good Morning Ladies! When I got up this morning... noooo, what I should say is... "when I dragged myself out of bed this morning" I sat on the livingroom floor to play with my kitty, Zeppe, and cramped the whole right side of my back and shoulder muscles! Ouch!!! When am I gonna learn to I am getting too old for the floor!!! Dummy me! :dizzy: I want to share with you gals about this past weekend, hope you don't mind ~ What a beautiful day Joe & I had Sunday (8-15) at the car show ~ great weather, visiting friends & making new ones looking at cars!! Joe & I went to church; then had breakfast with our friends and her family from out of town; then we came home for a bit to change clothes and off we went to the car show. I saw a 1958 Chevy Impala Convertible that I would have given my eye teeth for!!!!!!! :dizzy: !!!!!! And didn't I forget my camera!!!! Bummer!!! What a beautiful car!! It was Aqua too --- awesome car! I don't think I ever wanted something so much in all my life --- I have always desired one ever since I can remember. I asked him what the sale price would be IF he were to sell it and he hesitantly said (cuz his was not for sale) around $60,000.00 (ohhh-k, I'll just run to the bank and be right back - ). This morning I spent some time on the net to do some searching and that's what they are going for! The one I really liked on the net that was a 1957 Bel Air Convertible went for $90,000.00! :o ! I couldn't even find his car (from the show) on the net --- havta keep searching. I have always looked for a 1957 (the year I was born), but I would settle for a '58! ! I have heard that that car is rare because around Ohio cuz they rusted out like crazy so there are very few still left around these parts. One day I will have one (N  T!)... ... only in my dreams ;) I just Loved the car show!!!! :D For about 3 hours I actually had forgotten how ill I had been feeling ;) and felt like a kid again!! What I wouldn't give to be one of the owners in a Car Show ~ I would have the best time chatting with all the people who come to them. I come so alive when I am there, like I do in an amusement park (Disney). I am just a big kid :smug: at heart  *The Sleep Study for my hubby Joe* We got home from the car show at around 3:30 Sunday (8-15) and I made pasta and salad for dinner and then Joe left for his study. Boy, did I miss him!!! I slept terrible (!!), if at all, not use to Joe being gone... he left at 8:15 and he said that by the time they finished plugging him in with all the censors it was 10:20. He didn't have any problems sleeping but he did say when he went to turn a couple times to his side he could feel the stuff behind his ears and on his head. He got home at around 6:00 Monday morning and we won't know the results for 7 - 10 days --- they are sending the information to his Dr & his Dr. will let him know the results. I will let you know as soon as I hear anything. It took him forever to get the goop off his skin --- he finally caved in and used goo-gone and it worked great. What a mess! And I haven't felt well for quite awhile now (extremely fatigued for months now!) & I finally went to a Dr. on Friday and guess what I was told! You are not gonna believe this! But I was told that I am exercising too much!!!! Can you believe that! :o ! I am not giving myself enough time to recoup in between exercise sessions. That's why I wasn't dropping weight and was hurting so much (intestinal spasms got real bad & muscle swelling). The exercise was making the spasms worse and I was bloating up and also not sleeping well at night from the discomfort, therefore not getting the rest needed. So to say the least I am having to change my walking goals to around 30-35 miles for the month as long as I am doing Curves 3x a week. In just the time I took over the weekend resting, just doing normal activities, I have dropped a pound and am now down to 193 (189 here I come!). I just need more rest and plenty of water... I was not drinking enough either for all I was putting out in exercise. I am not doing nearly what others do for exercise and thought I needed to do more and it was the wrong thing for me to do... it was too much for my body. So I have learned a big lesson and am glad I went to my Dr. I cannot believe how much better I am feeling. I will still exercise 4 - 5x a week, but I must go slower and longer and not go faster in walking (no more jogging for me :( ) and I will still go to Curves 3x a week. *~*~* How's the weather for all you folks been??? Anyone have friends or family in Florida?? My heart is so sad  for all those people that have lost so much  I just could not imagine it. And then there were the floods in England - washing people, homes and cars away - unbelievable! ! *PUSS* I am so glad that nothing has happened to you & your family! I pray for your continued safety!! We have been so blessed (I thank the Lord!) when it comes to our weather... we have had allot of rain but not devastating weather. Today it is raining, but it was beautiful up till now - I cannot complain - I have my home unlike many. I lift them all up to our Father in heaven that they all may be helped and no one is forgotten. *~*~* Hi *ANGEL* & *BONNIE* I have missed you ~ALL~ so much!!! It is good to see you again :flow2: Bonnie ~ You just make my heart happy :smug: You are such a sweet & kind person! Angel ~ You will lose those 10 lbs in no time with the schedule you have! :o ! Good Morning Everyone,
I am so happy to see all of you. We are some really cool ladies, aren't we! Well, the tropical stuff is gone and the sun is shinning and the temps are cool. Looks like Fall here we come in good old Wisconsin. Sheila, I worked until 10:00 p.m. last night trying to put four wedding pictures on a post, from DD and DS's weddings, but I screwed it up. I'll give it another try tonight. :dz: Charlotte, gee I wish you felt better. At least you can get some relief from your treatments. You can always count on us to be concerned about you and know we care. Puss, How are your doing today, I would imagine you are probably getting ready to head home from work, where by we have just gotten a couple of hours into our work day. SunnyD, thank you, you are such a sweet person, :). When Dh and I were married we owned a 1962 Chevy Impala Coup white over silver blue. We still have it stored in the barn. When DH retires he plans to restore it. When we were first married DH worked for a local garage as a body shop man and restored cars. If we ever get it restored, you will be the first person to get a picture of it, or better yet, when we both retire and the car is restored, we will drive it to Ohio some weekend and let you drive it around for awhile. Have a good day everyone. Bluet |
It's great to see this site busy again! SunnyD you take it easy on the exercise front, my dear, don't want you getting ill again. The car show sounds good though I have never heard of a Chevy Impala or a Bel AIr. Your DHs sleep trial sounds facinating - I would love to go for one to see on a video if DH is telling the truth about my wriggling and starfishing and sleep talking. No wonder I feel exhausted when I wake up! Angel, I believe you when you say in jest that you need a holiday - that's how I often feel after a holiday. You sound like you are rushing around a lot again. Don't worry about the 10lb, it will sort itself out again.Sheila, my DD never mentioned the weather in the states - apart from the heat in Vegas. Remember we live on a small island where the climate can be sunny in the 80s one day and cold and stormy the next. No such thing as packing warm clothes away for the summer here, ha ha. I did see Love Actually and remember the nerd who managed to get lovely US girls on the basis of his accent alone. So funny. I actually like the US accents from the street-wise NY type to the laid back drawl of the South. Every time I look at your gorgeous little GD I come over all grandmotherly and want to kiss her to bits, she is just one adorable little girl. Bluet we have had some lou lous of thunderstorms lately too but I love them. The kittens don't like them though. How good a grandma are you taking the GKs for your daughter's day off. Bet they have tons of fun with you. As for no bodice rippers...well, I am surprised at you. Have you tried 'The Other Bolyn Girl' by Phillippa Gregory? Lots of goings on with mucky old King Henry V111.

Hey, SunnyD, how wonderful to see you here! Your profile photo is wonderful--you're so darned cute! You look so happy in that pic. Ouch on the foot cramping! Your tale reminds me of my mother's friend who, at the age of 45, was so cheerful one bright sunny morning that she jumped off the porch to get the paper, and ended up in a cast for her broken ankle.
Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. $90,000 for a car? I didn't even pay that for my first two houses. I like looking at those old cars, too. A friend of mine had some sort of 1970s Chevy that he drove back east to sell because older cars are rare there because of the rust. He got a great price for it, too--well worth the trip. I'm glad you got to the bottom of your tired feelings. I've heard it is important to let the body rest, especially with weight lifting. Congrats on the excellent weight loss! Charlotte, what an ordeal at the doctor's office. That even sounds exhausting so I can just imagine how it felt. Hey, how is your son doing? And the grandkids? Oh, darn, Bluet, I would have loved to have seen them. I hope you can get them to post tonight. It can be a touch complicated because of the size requirements. I don't know if I mentioned on this board that my Dad was diagnosed with some dementia related to Alzheimer's. He's now on Arricept, which is supposed to help his memory problems, and a drug that is supposed to help with the paranoia. I thought it might be working, but he was really off yesterday. He wanted to know what unkind thing the person who was at our house the night before said about him. We were stunned because there was no person at our house the night before. We had to take him through the events of the evening step by step. My DH told him that maybe he had a vivid dream that he was remembering. That seemed to calm him a little, but I think he was a little shaken. He was a lot better this morning, thank goodness. So who is watching the Olympics? That whole gymnastics thing last night was incredible, and it was wonderful watching the 17-year old women's freestyle record being broken. I did, however, feel pretty bad for the Korean gymnasts. They gave solid performances and really thought they'd go gold and silver. Another sunny and warm day here. I feel like a broken record. We are supposed to get rain this weekend. My plants will enjoy that. I will try to get another photo of the front yard, although some of the crispy plants don't look very attractive. Coming back to say hi to Fatpuss! Looks like we posted about the same time. |
Bluet said she couldn't get in--hopefully others aren't having that trouble.
Well, I thought I'd share yesterday's "exciting" afternoon. My Dad, who usually gets home from his rounds about 3:30, usually no later than 4:00, wasn't home by 5:00 pm and I was starting to worry. The other time he had done this, I called the police, but they couldn't do anything because Dad is an adult and not missing that long so there wasn't anything I could do (he got lost, but finally made it home). At 5:30 pm, I got a call from him, and he's in the Emergency Room at a nearby hospital. I only got that he'd fallen and he wanted me to check on his car and then come to the hospital. I went to where his car was and found out from the business owner that my Dad had started up the steps of this beauty salon (thinking it was his regular barber--that was disturbing enough to realize he couldn't find his longtime barbershop) and had fallen backward. The woman went down to help him and discovered blood on the back of his head so she called 911. Although he didn't want to go to the ER, the medics took him there. He had a couple of stitches on the back of his head from what they said was a deep wound, and then some stitches in his elbow. This morning he said his "sitter" wasn't feeling that great either so he might have bruised his tailbone. He had blood all the way down the back of his shirt--pretty gross. They X-rayed his elbow and scanned his head, but everything is okay. He goes to the doctor on Monday to get the wounds checked out. Given that he's diabetic, he doesn't heal as fast as others. All this happened about 1:30 pm he said, and the hospital didn't even call me. He didn't realize he could request the hospital to call. I'm wondering if I can have a note placed in his computer files saying that if he shows up at the ER to call me. I think with the health laws, if I call the ER they won't tell me anything, although maybe they have to tell me if he's there. Anyway, now he's got a scar on the back of his head to match the ones on the front of his head from where he fell last year. *Sigh* Is everyone thankful it's Friday?? |
Hi Everyone,
Lost a whole post this morning. I said oh peanut butter and smiled...NOT, was having trouble getting the site to open up, but Sheila said everything seemed to be ok. All right I give up how do I get to see SunnyD's picture in her profile? I really need someone to hold my hand when it comes to computers, as you all have probably guessed. Did you all get my private e-mail this morning? What a mess, right? I promise I will have DS, come out and spend some time with me teaching me how to post pictures after the grandkids leave. Also, I am having a problem with the sound on computer at home. One day it just quit. Don't know what to make of that. Sheila very sorry to hear about Dad. When one thinks of what they have ahead of them down the road it makes one sad doesn't it. I don't look forward to that, actually afraid of it. Charlotte, how are you today. hope your feeling o.k. How is your son getting along and his daughters? Are you moving forward on your house rennovation? Puss, You mentioned that book to me once before, I planned on getting it from the library today, but when I checked on line it is checked out, both copies. I will take time to read it though. I regret that I did not take the time to drive to Chicago and meet your daughter at the air terminal when she stopped over in Chicago. It is only a 3 hour drive on good roads for me. Chicago traffic is a nightmare though. SunnyD, hope you are cutting back on that exercise routine, you are still walking a lot of miles. Your body will always let you know by protesting. I know you will have a good weekend, you are very positive about things. Well, I have to get ready to end the work day and go pick up the baby at daycare. She is really going to miss her Mommy. Have a good Friday evening everybody. Bluet Happiness is the sense that one matters. Sarah Timmer |
Sheila, yes I for one am glad it is Friday. Office Bully out did himself today, no one went near him.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...isc/BB5041.jpg Hi *BLUET * PUSS & SHEILA* I have taken the last two days off (Wed & Thurs) from both walking and Curves. Today I put in 2 miles. I plan to go back into my regular routine of Curves 3x a week and walking at least 2 miles a day depending on how I am feeling now that I know what to watch for. I miss exercising, but needed to take that break. The spasms began again after I walked today, but when I took the hot shower afterwards they calmed again and now I feel fine. I guess it is just something I will have to learn to cope with - especially since I don't want to take muscle relaxers which have been offered to me. No meds if I can help it... I will if it becomes unbearable, but I am not there yet :^: :smug: *~*~* Bluet ~ Never ever thought a Dr. would tell me that I was exercising too much  But I seem to fatigue very easily :dz: and have spasms much too often. I get eye twitches all the time too - Dr. said fatigue! So I must make sure to get a good nights rest (in bed by 9:30!) so that I am able to do my workouts daily and reg. activities too. I am prone to spasms everywhere... I have had them in my legs, eyes, muscles in my arms - weird. I am taking potassium and magnesium which is suppose to help - never mind the fruit I eat. He said I am just very sensitive and must take care to get the proper rest. I also think it's from all the surgeries I have had in my abdomen (3 all together). It has to play havoc on the intestines & body after being in there so much, don't you think? It's catching up with me more and more as I get older. So I must take care, exercise and eat well now for later in my life :^: I am afraid to go too long before getting back into exercise again, you know. Then I get concerned that I will go into my old habit of not doing anything :o Also, I find my spirits were getting low from not exercising, so I have to do something... just not at a fast pace. I walked at 2.5 speed on the T-Mill this morning, but wanted so much to kick it up! It seems to take forever at that speed. But if I don't want the health issues I must obey the slower and longer rule (yuk!) On the bright side - I read that it burns more fat that way (I hope! I hope!) Still no word about Joe's Sleep Study. He is sleeping and looking so much better & his BP is good now that he sleeps on his side, so they may not have to do anything for him. I just want to know that his heart is okay, and I think that if anything showed up they would have called by now - don't you? So I am taking it as a good sign that they haven't called yet. Awesome that you two own a 1962 Chevy Impala Coup! :cp: I saw a red one on Sunday and they are soooo cute!!! You are so lucky! Those cars are worth about $25,000.00 ready to drive and show. I think it's so cool that hubby is planning on restoring it after he retires... I'd love a picture when it's finished  Wouldn't that be so neat if we met one day at a car rally :D You just never know!!!! Sheila ~ :thanks: Joe took that picture of me this past June after I got over 5" taken off my hair and had it colored. It was my shoulder that cramped up  I just sat on the floor to play with my kitty and it cramped up - crazy! I walked around all day with that darn cramp --- "I had such a crook in the neck!" :dz: All better today :D I think that I am in denial of some of my limitations as I age... I am so very sorry to hear of your DD's diagnoses... it may take his body a bit of time to get the meds into his system... no? Oh my goodness, Sheila!!! He would worry me to death... will you need to take his keys away from him now? I know it will be hard to do, but it may have to be. And what's up that the hospital never calling you!!!??? I bet a request could be made for a phone call to you... we use to get them for my father-in-law. You sure do have your hands full :goodvibes PUSS ~ It's so good to see you too :flow2: Do you have some pictures of those lovely kittens of yours? Sure would love to see  :D Here is a small picture of a 1955 Bel Air: http://photobucket.com/albums/v242/S...th_55bella.jpg and here is a 1957 Convertible (the year I was born): http://photobucket.com/albums/v242/S.../th_57conv.jpg *~*~* Have a nice weekend gals if I don't get back here till Monday... Hi, all--
Hope the weekend is going well for everyone. I'm glad my DH mowed the weeds yesterday because it's raining to beat heck today, and it's supposed to stay that way all week. That's okay because my plants really need it. SunnyD, I hope you get the sleep study results soon. I'm glad Joe is sleeping better, and I hope something as simple as sleeping on his side will help. Like you, I think they would have called if something was wrong. Wow, five inches off your hair. It looks so good like that. Did you donate your hair to Locks of Love? I read a story recently about a boy who grew out his hair, and endured lots of taunts, so he could donate it to Locks of Love. What a determined kid! Since my Dad's driving is okay, there really is no way I can take his license away unless a doctor insists. Poor guy--he was feeling okay the day of the accident, but his elbow and his rear end have really started to bother him. I hesitate to fill the prescription for vicodin, though. I'd have for him to get woozy and fall down. Nothing much going on here. Did my water aerobics yesterday, and then did the laundry and watched the Olympics. I love watching track and field. My daughter was on the track team at her middle and high schools and we went to every meet. I found it refreshing that the young woman who won silver was just so excited that she'd won a medal. It was a cool story about how people helped get her family over to Athens, even her seriously ill father. Now for a relaxing Sunday. . |
Hi Everyone,
Just a quick note, grandkids are really missing their Mom and Dad. Baby is not napping well for me. See how it goes tomorrow at day care for her. Talk to you all tomorrow when I am at work. Bluet |
Good Morning All,
Loooong weekend. We all survived though. Grandson who will be 8 next month seem to miss his parents the most. Had a few trying moments with him on Sunday, but he mellowed out after awhile. Just needed some special attention. I was seven minutes late for work this morning, only because I stopped at the coffe shop for some decafe after dropping the kids at day care. So we were able to get it together this morning. That was one of my biggest fears, staying on schedule in the morning and getting all of us where we needed to be on time  Watched some olympics this weekend, also got to watch one program on the BBC, otherwise it was all, Rugrats, Kimpossible, etc. My ears were just ringing. The BBC program that I watched was Ground Force, I saw only the last half of it, but I just loved what they did. They built a garden to look like a castle ruin on a hillside. If someone would do that for me, I would bawl my eyes out. Well hope you all have a good Monday. Bluet |
Poor kid! Is this the first time that Mom and Dad have been gone for so long? Your description of your morning sure reminds me of when my kids were younger. Sometimes work felt like a vacation after all that rushing around trying to get everyone ready. How's the youngest one doing? You'll be able to name all the characters in those kids shows soon! :)
Hey, I got so inspired by the women's marathon that when we were walking our dog last night, I started running. Up the hill. I thought I was pretty fit, but, oh, my, did my lungs burn! Of course, a year or more ago, I wouldn't have been able to run at all, even down a hill. I've seen Ground Force a couple of times--pretty neat show. I haven't been able to find House Doctor on BBC America yet. What day does it come on where you live? I'd love to see that. Went to "land" aerobics for the first time in a long time. It gets so hot in the gym during the summer that I only go when the temperature the day before class has been in the lower 70s or lower. Except for one day in the last couple of months, I've only gone once so that gives you an idea of our weather. There's no A/C in the gym, so in the summer it can get stinking hot, and really cold in the winter, too. Luckily, cold isn't a problem after about 10 minutes of working out. Hope everyone is having a great Monday! |
Hello,
I believe yes, this is the first time that this grandson has stayed with us this long. His parents have taken a long weekend here and there, but never a 10 day vacation. Yes, being at work is like a vacation. What a tremendouse price to pay to get to work though. I have to give the parents of today a lot of credit. It is very stressful trying to get an 8, 6 and 1 year old going in the morning. I was a stay at home Mom until our last child was about 10 years old. I didn't know how good I had it. Sheila we get House Doctor on Direct TV on Saturday mornings around 8 or 9 and then it is on again in the evening. The designer Ann Maurice, cuts right to the quick. Got to watch a little of the olympics last night after the kids went to bed, but was falling asleep, so I went to bed. What a controversy for poor Paul Hamm. Office Bully is at it again, so everyone is staying in their desk area or offices staying out of his way. The ugly brute. Hope you are all well and there are no Office Bullies in your lives. Bluet |
Sheila,
I just wanted to add. That I admire the hard work you do and have done to loose the weight you have lost. If anyone should have a gold medal, it should be you! Bluet |
Thanks, Bluet, what a sweet thing to say. :)
Office bullies--yuck. I no longer work so I don't have any of those to contend with. Had a boss who was a bully so I quit, sued, and won. Got a lot of satisfaction out of that. I'm not a suit happy person, but in this case it just felt so right. So my Dad went to the doctor yesterday so he could look at the stitches in Dad's elbow and head. He goes again on Friday to get the sutures out. I made Dad ask the doctor about this sore on his hand. The doctor believes it's cancer. That was quite the shocker. I looked on the internet and it appears to look like squamous cell cancer, which isn't as bad as melanoma. He's had basal cell skin cancer before, but he doesn't remember. I forced him to let me go to the doctor with him on Friday to see what's going on (and said we'd go out to lunch afterward). He also said the doctor looked at something else and said "cancer," too, but he couldn't tell me where. I called the doctor's office, but it wasn't in the notes. Guess we'll see on Friday. Hopefully he just got confused about it and it's only one spot. He's survived prostate, bladder and skin cancer before so I'm sure he'll be okay now. We had what you'd call torrential rains today. I looked out at the graveled driveway and saw an inch of standing water. Went to the gym to lift weights, then came home for a sponge bath. We had the defective tub refinished (paid for by the tub manufacturer) so we can't use it until tonight. Boy, that's sure a stinky procedure, and we can't put shampoo bottles around the rim anymore. After my sponge bath, I went back to the Y for a 15 minute chair massage. You just gotta feel sorry for Paul Hamm, and actually all the gymnasts who are caught in the all-around scoring controversy and last night's debacle. I was actually hoping that Paul Hamm would get a lower score because of how awful it looked when he did better than the Russian guy who, frankly, had a better routine. The Russian guy was definitely a great sport. He didn't have to tell the crowd to stop, but he did. His teammate on the women's side should take a page out of her book. I really liked her until I heard that she said the Americans had rigged the judging of the women's event. That's why I like track--they just run and it's timed and there's no subjectivity. Hope everyone is having a great Tuesday! Hi to Fatpuss, SunnyD, and Charlotte. |
Sheila, I thought that you had that tub resurfaced a long time ago. DS resurfaced his by himself with a product he bought at Menards. It looks really nice. Our tub downstairs is as old as when DH's parents installed indoor plumbing. It really needs to be resurfaced. I am thinking of doing it myself, but like you said it is really a smelly process.
Sorry to hear about Dad. I don't know what to tell you, but you are a really good daughter. You will never regret having helped your Dad, even though sometimes it is a bit trying. My Dad passed away about 10 years ago when he was around 72. He was very ill with emphyzema. My Mom is starting to look very fragile. My daughters are very concerned about her, they don't see her all the time, but got to see her two weekends in a row for the baby shower and my neice-to-be's bridal shower. We have thunder storms predicted for all week. It has been over-cast and yucky all day, but it hasn't rained yet, just threatening. Well, it is time for me to close up shop and head over to the Y to pick up the 8 and 6 year olds. They had swimming today during Summer Adventure. Perhaps they will be tired out a little, propably NOT. DH goes to the south side and picks up the baby at daycare. I wonder what I will make for supper tonight. Have a good evening all... Take care Charlotte, SunnyD and Puss.... Bluet |
