CCRRMM Poet Laureates Thread

  • Royal Ones, we shall share poetry, inspiring stories, pithy quotes and mayhap a joke or two on this thread.

    I, Viscountess Cerise, have spoken.

**the Viscountess has nothing to share currently but is certain that a peek at her books this evening will lend itself to finding something worth sharing**

***the Viscountess has changed her mind. She wishes to post a quote which has changed her life in a small way and which seemed to resonate with at least two other Peeresses of the Realm***

"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a great battle." ~Philo of Alexandria
  • Sorry if I stole your thunder, Amarantha. Just wanted to affirm your idea by getting it going, ya know?
  • Vicountess, I'm delighted to see thou hath put this thread up here in the Palace Library (I think we're in the library, n'est pas?) and hath brought the gavel down on the first meeting of the ly Poet L Society!!!! I would like to share one of my favorite poems with the group, though it be a very familiar one to thee all, methinks. May I ask what the favorite poems are of all the Society members? (Just think, if we are typing poetry in, we are NOT eating peanut butter cups, now there's a concept!!!!!)!!!!

    The Road Not Taken

TWO roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
    To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
    Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
    Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

    Yes, it has.

  • Oh, we have made SUCH a good beginning! Empress, thank you for getting us started with the incomparable Seņor Frost!
  • You are welcome, Poet Leader Cerise!!! Om shanti! Sign me up for the next Society meeting and at that time I'll return with a greeting! (That's a POEM!!!)
  • Yowza! Here's how I felt today contemplating the Vernal Exercise Challenge Faire (sorry, it's Robert again):

    The Silken Tent

She is as in a field a silken tent
At midday, when a sunny summer breeze
Has dried the dew, and all its ropes relent
So that in guys it gently sways at ease
And its supporting central cedar pole
That is its pinnacle to heavenward
And signifies the sureness of the soul
Seems to owe naught to any single cord
But, strictly held by none, is loosely bound
By countless silken ties of love and thought
To everything on earth the compass 'round
And only by one going slightly taut
In the capriciousness of summer air
Is of the slightest bondage made aware.
