CCRRMM :Walking to NOLA...

Welcome back ladies. Despite our loss of the site, we are still walking to New Orleans Louisianna.

Goal? To be there by Mardi Gras
How? We're leaving from Atlanta Each minute we exercise becomes one mile walked.
7 Weeks= 70 miles a week = 70 minutes a week of exercise
If we do it in 7 weeks, we'll be able to party at Mardi Gras

So far, Zadie K is the first one to step off and she's 25 miles ahead of us guys. It's time for the rest of us to step off!

:D

ceara 01-08-2004 08:01 AM

I'm walkin"!

Logged 25 minutes LB at the gym where I got my LB (lard butt) moving on Monday morning...which I had posted, but which got lost in space!

Haven't done any organized exercise work since then!

Ceara

Seattlejo 01-08-2004 02:19 PM

Yup, I realized that this morning, it was you Ceara not Zadie who had logged the 25 miles, and looking at the other thread I see Anagram has done 65, not sure if she is applying them over here.

Punkinseed 01-08-2004 06:02 PM

:queen: Punkin reporting for the walk!

The treck so far this week!

Sunday - 20 miles (elliptical'ing)

60 miles on my way to Mardi Gras! Gumbo me baby!

Nah'lins bound!

Kaylets 01-08-2004 06:09 PM

OK....
Take it for what it is....

I've been climbing a flight of stairs at my job-- Our building is only 4 floors high so its either 6 or 8 sets of stairs...
It takes me aproximately 2 minutes to go down and up again....

I know 2 minutes seems very simple but let me tell you...
it took practice to get it to 2 minutes!

Anyway-- Monday- 1 set = 2 min
Tuesday 2 sets= 4 min
Wedesday 2 sets of 2!! 8 min
Thursday 2 sets of 2!! 8 min

so far we have 24 miles..........

;) ;)

As I mentioned on the other thread, the Empress cannot post w/o the Quick Reply feature....

So, I am cutting and pasting for her.....

Tryin' to get to New Orleans

My favorite "strange" interest in music is The Tractors. They have a song about a guy chasing down a dream in New Orleans, and I listen to it all the time on the treadmill! It's from their 1994 album, The Tractors. Thought I'd share the lyrics...

My daddy said son put your guitar down
We gotta build some fence...gotta plow some ground
I told my daddy, "try and understand..."
"This John Deere tractor don't fit my plan..."

And I hit the road
Chasin' down a dream
And I need a little help
I'm tryin' to get to New Orleans

Sidetracked up in Illinois
I'm not that smart...I'm an innocent boy
She called me baby...she called me honey...
She called a cab and took away my money

On the road again
Somewhere south of Moline
And I need a little help
You see I'm tryin' to get to New Orleans

Don't know why...I gotta go
If I don't try I'll never know
About e'touffe and Cajun queens
I need a little help
You see I'm tryin' to get to New Orleans

Hocked my watch...bought a burger and fries
Tried to pretend it was red beans and rice
Midnight in Memphis...hello to Graceland
Next stop...Louisiana
And I'm on the road
Chasin' down a dream

And I need a little help
You see I'm tryin' to get to New Orleans

I need a little help
You see I'm tryin' to get to New Orleans

I'm just an old poor boy
Chasin' down a dream
And I need a little help
You see I'm tryin' to get to New Orleans

You can listen to it here: http://www.thetractors.com/albums/tractors.php

anagram 01-09-2004 01:22 PM

Just a quickie post - by the time I do a quick scan, no time to do much more.

I had reported 65 minutes/miles somewhere earlier, yes, please include them here. I've done an additional 42 minutes so far, I think. Most of this has been beachwalking not counting the times walking in grocery/dept stores. Might count this afternoon's flea market jaunt.

Love the musical components.

Sorry not to get personal, so much going on, and I have 5 minutes left to finish up and get out of here.

But still, special thoughts to our wet west coast girlies. And pls. include me in the e-mail list. Kaylets, do you still hae mine?

Amarantha2 01-09-2004 03:53 PM

Using edit to update my miles rather than continually reposting ...

Finding it confusing to just edit my post over and over, so will just keep doing updates on my miles in new posts. My complete log and my Sunday marching song is thusly on a new post on page 2. Some of you :queen: s are ahead of me on the trail and I'm hoping to catch up next week, which is, well, tomorrow! Footrace anyone? See y'all in NOLA!!!! Better have some potassium 'cause it's getting hot out there!!!

Ok, editing the same post over and over isn't a great idea since we're on page 2 now, so here's my Sunday report:

Editing for Saturday, Jan. 11! My birthday and I did not exercise. I sat in the sun and started a little carving called “My Re-emerging Smile!" My walking song for today is “Oh, we are marching to Pretoria, Pretoria, Pretoria; oh, we are marching to Pretoria, Pretoria today.” I don’t know where Pretoria is exactly, but doubt it’s anywhere near NOLA.

My WEEK ONE Walkabout Tally:

Monday, 50 miles (50 min.) in gym; including 20 recumbent bike, 30 weight room (LB heavy; TB light; yoga, stretch).

Tuesday, 50 miles (50 min.) gym, including treadmill run/walk, stretch.

Wednesday, 50 miles (50 min.) gym; including 10 treadmill run, 40 weight room (CORE heavy, including rope crunches, planks, air punches for obliques, stomach vacs for lower abs, ab machine, back machine; TB light).

Thursday, 50 miles (50 min.) gym, including treadmill run/walk, stretch.

Friday, 70 miles (70 min.) gym w/trainer; including 10 treadmill walk, 60 weight room (UB heavy; TB variety (especially learning to do lunges correctly, which is taking forever).

Saturday, 51 miles (51 min.) gym, including treadmill run/walk, stretch.

Sunday, 0 miles (0 min.), rest day.

Total WEEK ONE Miles: 371

Seattlejo 01-11-2004 06:28 PM

Wow! You all are wonderful! Looking at the mileage we have folks who took the brave first steps, and we have folks who have already made it to New Orleans! i am impressed with all of you :-) What a great group of walkers. Here is what the total is...

Ceara - 32 miles, first step off award
Punkinseed 60 miles
Kaylets 24 miles
Amarantha 371
Wildfire most inspiring post of the day - 210 miles
Arabella 525 miles!
Eydie 425 miles
Cerise 29.5 miles
Seattlejo 70 miles

Three awards are given for this week,
Award one goes to our Dear Ceara who took the very first step!! Wahoo!

Award number two goes to wildfire for the most inspiring post of the day! Thank you for linking the Tractors song and giving us the lyrics!

Award number three goes to Arabella, darling you totally exceeded all of my expecatations by reaching New Orleans in a week! If you want to readjust the mileage per minute ratio and keep walking that would be fine, a 10 minutes - 1 mile would put you in line with us, or you can just keep walking the same way you are!

Seattlejo 01-11-2004 06:33 PM

Ok Week Two! For those of you leaving the Atlanta area, it should be clear and Sunny through Friday, with highs in the mid fourties low fifities. Light jackets are reccomended but we neednnt worry about rain at aleast.

For those entering New Orleans it is warmer, in the low 60s with a chance of rain on Thursday Friday, dont forget your umbrella!

Enjoy your walk this week ladies!

Amarantha2 01-11-2004 06:40 PM

Well, sure and b'gorra, Wood Nymph, thou DIDST get to NOLA in a week!!!! Let me add my congrats to Seattle Jo's: :cp: :cheer:  :cb: :jig:

Seattle Jo, with the upheaval on the site, I forgot where we started to walk from ... was wondering if WN (and the rest of us slowpokes as we reach NOLA) "walking" back to the starting point and then heading to NOLA again? Maybe there could be a secondary goal of seeing who can get the most trips in by Mardi Gras!!! I know I'm inspired by WN and intend to give her a run for her money, sure and b'gorra!!! :)

BTW, I know they probably don't say sure and b'gorra much in Louisiana, but it's spring where I am and I'm thinking about St. Pat's Day already!

Someone is shooting a gun outside. Methinks I should see what's up! Later ...

Seattlejo 01-12-2004 11:02 AM

Little Known Mardi Gras Facts!

Floats can costs anywhere from $65,000 to $250,000, depending on style. It isn't the material that skyrockets costs, it the highly skilled labor that it takes to create such wonders. In New Orleans, the floats are at the maximum height and width, so they can only grow in Length. Some krewes are now just beginning to learn how to build floats on their own, in order to save money

Those of you who are striding ahead of the pack, you have two choices, we can move you a little further away for your start point, or you can go back and forth. Some of you are going to lap the rest of the group a few times though.

St Pattys day. *sigh* walking the rolling hills of Ireland is a goal the darling husband and I have discussed many a time. Of course nothing beats Chicagos (my hometown) St Pattys day celebaration.

anagram 01-12-2004 01:14 PM

Wow, Wood Nympth! Our "Advance" persona.

Ok for last week I did a total of 122 miles or 332 if I count the walking in stores/flea market. I think I will count them (as I really did them and it is exercise).

This morning I walked the beach 37 minutes. So that's a total of 369 minute/miles so far.

Kaylets 01-12-2004 01:44 PM

Wow and holy mackeral!! Congrats all the award winners! And yes, Arabella, you are my hero!

Here I am, way back hereeeeeeeeee..........

Hee, hee... I'm not worried... (sigh...)
But yes, where did we start ?? Which location was it??

I am confused.

Amarantha2 01-12-2004 02:40 PM

Yo!

It’s Monday, Jan. 12!!! Huzzah!!! “March, march, march, the boys are marching ...” (WWI marching song, dunno the rest of it!)

Seattle Jo, I love your new avatar!!!! I'm really glad this new forum software is back today!!! Re lap versus continuing on, I'd prefer laps back and forth from Atlanta to NOLA (I'm assuming we're using 470 miles as one trip? I think no one will mind if some get in more trips ... it'd be kind of fun to see who could do the most laps and if we'd all end up in the same place for Mardi Gras!!!! We could share a bag of pralines, er, no, maybe brown rice and jambalaya ... no, pralines, definetely pralines!
