Hi again ladies,
Just want to put in my two cents worth.. first of all , I tried Kashi over a year ago.. it was yucky,, I didn't like it all. And Cathy just cause your ball exercises don't make you sore don't mean they aren't working.. I am never sore after working out at curves yet I am loosing inches all over...

What is this :) suppose to be..? I notice they are all over the place.

DAhlia

BarbaraAnn 01-14-2004 02:22 PM

Sorry to say but it was indeed Kashi...the "Good Friends Cinna Raisin Crunch". I wouldn't have any *good friends* if I offered them some of this! :joker:

Then again...it's been ages since I've eaten cereal so I might not be the best judge. I do like the "Post Healthy Classics Fruit & Bran, Peaches, Raisins & Almonds" and plain ol' Cheerios.

Barb-- who's not yet sure about these strange creatures either!

zookeeper16 01-14-2004 03:53 PM

I *thought* :dizzy: I had posted here this morning and come to find that I had not! Ooops! Well, I did my Tae Bo Live Basic tape this morning. Why is it the more you work out (meaning as time goes by), the more you sweat? Last week I barely broke a sweat, but this week I am? :hot:

I'm alternating most of my videos, so that really helps break the monotony of exercise. MWF is Tae Bo Basic (I have several versions so I do one each week), Tuesday is Yoga, Thursday is Pilates and Saturday is a Tae Bo Focus video (the one that kicked my :censored: last weekend! ). Once I'm doing well with the TB Basic videos, I will switch over to the Advanced. I also have several Denise Austin tapes I could do, but she can get irritating over time. :headache:

I read this morning in order to figure out your water intake, you divide your weight in half and that's the number of ounces you are supposed to drink. I should be getting in 100 ounces, and I've only been getting between 72 and 96 in. So I have to work on that.

Okay, what is it with these little green-haird dudes? :?: They certainly are strange looking! :)

Barbara! :bravo: :cp: :jig:  :balloons: :cheer: :encore: :high: :cb: :dancer: They are all for you girl! Way to go!

I was thinking another thing we can do for newcomers is actually invite them down here for a visit. There's threads started for people looking for support and/or a buddy....maybe we should make it a point every once in a while to check up there and invite them in?

Well, I'm off to find something to do. I will check back in later! Take care all!

Sammy01 01-15-2004 02:31 PM

Hey you all,

I'm hanging in here and doing alright on program. I stopped counting Points as it really makes me obsess and with my state of mind these days, that is just one more stressor that I do not need!

Good news though, I don't have to take anymore night classes. Our controller and my boss feel I've got enough courses under my belt to have made a big improvement to my job performance so they are satisfied and so am I ;) I just feel relieved to know I don't have to go back in March.

Lisa, I am happy that you are still doing Tae Bo. I always think I should pull out my tapes but I'm lazy and hit the treadmill instead.

Cathy, I'm catching up fast on your heels for most workout videos owned. I've got 4 WATP tapes, 1 pilates, 3 firm tapes, 2 aerobics tapes, 1 abs tapes, and 1 Tae Bo tape. I don't count the yoga tapes because they haven't even been cracked yet but there are 4 of those lurking in my entertainment unit :dizzy:

Terry, sorry to hear about your loss. Funerals are tough even though they are a part of life. Hugs and hopes that you made out alright.

Dahlia, glad that Curves is working so well for you. My best friend just loves it and my girlfriend from college just started going too and is full of raves. Hope you are rested from having your grandchild over to visit.

Barb, you cracked me up with the tree bark cereal stuff. I've eaten just the plain Good Friends and was sooo not impressed. For a high fibre cereal try Fibre 1. It's pretty edible, kind of sweet and doesn't turn to mush. I promise. Let me know how you make out with the threat to your kids. Good stuff to keep on reference in case "Auntie" Pam has to get tough

Well weigh in is tomorrow for me. For once I'm not dreading it. I am just trying to focus on making good food choices, watch my portions and get my exercise and water in. I'll let you know how it goes.

Have a great day and a big hi to all I've missed.

Pam

cat90 01-15-2004 03:53 PM

 i just checked and i have 14 large boxes of assorted cereals in my cupboard (what a hoarder i am) and the latest addition "Special K" was bought just so i could have the free step counter  and thats useless  i suppose i'll have to start eating them at some point in my life  It was the Kashi Go Lean that i was looking at, i could'nt remember the name the other day..i'm glad i did'nt buy it now.

Congrats on not having to do any more courses Pam :cp:

zookeeper16 01-15-2004 04:17 PM

Hi Everyone!

Pam - I was doing the WW at home program two years ago and the point counting got to me too. :dizzy: The way I look at it now is that a healthy lifestyle is only accomplished through common sense and the practice of it! Just do what you know is healthy and run from there.

Wanna talk exercise vids? Check this out: 13 Tae Bo tapes, 7 Denise Austin tapes and a new pilates DVD. Beleive it or not, I'm looking at getting the new Tae Bo Capture The Spirit DVD set at my first goal or for my birthday :gift: ! Am I nuts, or what? :chin:

Sammy - One of these days I'll challenge you to do a Tae Bo tape with me. How's that? :)

Well, today hasn't necessarily been off program, but I don't Culver's burgers are considered "on" either! I'll make it up for it at supper tonight by only having my smoothie and a small bowl of chowder. I did do a double up pilates workout today too, so hopefully that helps balance out my lunch! And of course, I'm working on my water!

BTW - Everytime I think about soggy tree bark and using it as a threat against children, I STILL chuckle! That was soo funny!

Well, gotta run! My son will be home in 20 minutes; my daughter in 30. Then the fun begins!

zookeeper16 01-16-2004 10:03 AM

Good morning, Ladies! Where is everyone? I need ya! Besides the darn Culvers meal yesterday, I also had two handfuls of (fat free) chips last night. And my scale isn't moving, despite the 10 days of exercise & water and almost a week of extra fruits and veggies!

I am hoping that its the muscle I'm building that is slowing the weight loss down?

Its Friday - heading for the weekend. I know we'll spend some of the time watching some great football game this weekend. We usually load up on snacks for games like this, but the only thing we bought was tortilla chips & guacamole and my fat free chips, so that's an improvement (kinda!). DH is off today and this weekend, I think, so life gets a bit tougher when he's around. Why is it I get more housework done when he's not here? :?:

Well, I'm working on almost 48 oz of water already. Had to go feed my neighbors horses cuz her DH broke his ankle in three spots yesterday and is in surgery today. :( Got my TB workout in and need to hit the shower before heading into the big city (that's what you get when you live in the boonies!)

So what is everyone else up to?

cat90 01-16-2004 01:07 PM

Good Morning Ladies,

Its getting quiet around here again :( No Loss for me this week..exactly the same as last week but i've only had 4 days OP and last night i cheated too..i pinched 4 of hubbies fries and had them on a butty (slice of bread) ;) it won't have put me much over 1700 cals so i won't worry about it :D Thighs are'nt "bendable" today so i know that my exercise routine is working. Don't know what to do today :chin: i have so much to choose from  i've even got to the point where i'm torn between one video or another  I want to do the stability ball tho' because i've inflated the ball properly and it should be better now cos i'll be sat in the right position. BBL

zookeeper16 01-18-2004 12:05 AM

Good evening everyone! Checking in kinda late, but we had a busy day today! I agree, Cat, its awfully quiet in here! Come on ladies - don't give up! We are all doing so great and I love to read about everyone else's lives, and gleaning motivation and encouragement from you all!

I'm looking forward to tomorrow - my day of no exercising! LOL! 6 days a week gets tiring! I'm still waiting for that "high" everyone talks about, that energy that exercising is supposed to give you. I'm more tired since I started working out!

I logged a .5 loss this week. Not that much but with everything I got going against me, I'll take it! Wow, This screen is doing weird things, I can't see what I'm typing on a few lines....weird!

Well, guess that's it for tonight...I'll check in again tomorrow, sometime between the playoff games!

Sammy01 01-18-2004 11:49 AM

Good morning Ladies,

Well once again this week, no scale movement. I'm trying very hard not to get discouraged. I know that I am tightening up again for exercising faithfully so I know sooner or later, the scale will catch up. Right now I'm concentrating on how much better I am feeling by being back in control.

Spent a lovely day yesterday out at my friends house with her whole family and parents. Lots of giggling and playing with the kids. I'm sure her kids sleep like logs when they finally give it up and go to sleep. If I had half of their energy I'd be set :)

Well I'm off to church and then as Erwin informed me, watching the NFL game on TV today. I guess that means he's not going to let me vacuum upstairs LOL.

Have a great day ladies.

Pam

Cool Mom 01-18-2004 12:25 PM

Morning! Oops. it's 12:05pm so that means "Good Afternoon!" :D

I just went back and caught up on the last two pages of posts -- I was waiting with bated breath for Barbara to say the cereal was "Kashi" and I was right  :smug: ! I bought a box of that once and I called it "sticks" -- THEY DO NOT get mushy which brought to mind nails going thru my system. Think battering rams or snow plows. :yikes: No wonder it keeps you regular -- so does powdered fiber in coffee which is a heck of a lot better  .

I'm afraid I am not a good source of motivation here as I have been off (more like dead - down - out) my plan all week. But I did buy the new SBD paperback last night so I will be back in business Monday.

It's snowing right now and it looks so beautiful and peaceful out.

I gather some of you are having things fly past your screens?? Either I am still half asleep or my pop up filter is working because I don't see anything.

Not much on tap for today except football -- I am in Patriots country so this house will be rockin' later today.

Barbara, I love the cereals with the dried fruits -- Cherrios just came out with a new one with dried bananas, and then there is my favorite Special K with Berries. And, before I leave, a great big :cheer: & on your ten pound loss!!!!!! Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dahlia, Pam, Cathy, Carol, Lisa, Emily, Barbara .... see ya all later and have a wonderful Sunday :).

Terry :comp:

cat90 01-18-2004 04:05 PM

Hi Ladies

Terry..i'm not seeing any 'flying things' either so my pop up killer must be working a treat  mind you its not been 'ringing' so maybe there are'nt any around now :dizzy: I did'nt exercise yesterday but i did get some with all the cleaning and moving furniture that i did..my computer is now back upstairs in my gym ;) i just had to get away from hubby and his obsession with CNN  i just can't watch a soap or a movie when he is home..its terrible! He puts the tv on in the dining area and i can hardly hear what i'm watching in the lounge so i'll turn the volume then he does :rollpin: anyway, i've admitted defeat and have got quiet somewhat upstairs although its not totally peaceful as the house is all open plan so i can still hear the other tv a little  now he wants to know why i've moved my computer  (MEN) i might just bring the lazyboy upstairs next and the big screen tv :s:

Dahlia 01-18-2004 06:14 PM

 I can just see you Cathy, lugging all that furniture upstairs and your poor hubby down in an empty room  :comp: and you typing away while you watch tv and exercise all at once...

Well, this morning I took my :tread: out of retirement and gave it a workout. I have to build back up again, but it's a start. I'm not sure if I will be going to curves tomorrow or not.. we have been getting lake effect snow all day and it is quite windy out so there are drifts across our driveway and our road needs to be plowed. I am a half mile away from the main highway but I may as well be in Siberia when the road drifts. We seem to be the last road plowed out by the county too.. :rollpin:

Anyway, I've done well this weekend. I watched a show on tv earlier about this real heavy lady, who topped the scales at 335 and was having drastic stomach surgery done as a last resort. They showed taking out 75% of her stomach and dropping it into a bucket.. I wanted to (upchuck), but it was scary. I am not anywhere near that bad of a situation but I can see how it can accellerate into that easily.. she had to take 17 different types of medications for all the things wrong with her. Some of them were causing her problems with weight and some were because of it,, a vicious circle. I felt so bad for her.

Anyway, going to go make some supper now, I haven't seen my dh for most of the day. He is upstairs watching football on one tv, while I had the other one down here,, but I got tired of watching and came in to read posts.. but ladies,, :coach: there was only one from Cathy since I last checked.. come one girls :cheer: we need to post and keep each others motivation going. :gossip: we need each other. :grouphug:

Ok. enjoy the rest of the day. Will check back in the morning and there better be some posts :comp: :write: if you know what is good for you
:sumo: :stars: :yikes:

Dahlia ;)

zookeeper16 01-18-2004 08:51 PM

Just checking in per Dahlia's request! :) I love to come on and see a bunch of posts too, so keep up with the posting, even though its weekend! Any news is good news!

Pam - I know what you mean about kids' energy levels! I have a DS6 who is active almost all his waking hours. I can't believe how much energy children have, but then my son does sleep very sound at night! Oh, to just bottle some of it up - we'd be rich!

FWIW - I don't get pop ups either....must be the software we all have.

Terry - The SBD is supposed to be great. My mom was on it for awhile and lost 12 lbs really fast. I love my carbs too much to stick to it! :o

Cathy - I wonder if CNN is a man thing. Between that and "talk" radio (NPR), I certainly get my fill of news and other political stuff.

But then there's football.....the TV has been on all day with that stuff. Thankfully I do follow it a little bit...enough to find out who's going to the SuperBowl at least!

Last night we watched Bruce Almighty - man, that was funny! Glad I talked my DH into watching it with us. Today I spent most of the day working on stuff to sell on Ebay. I need to make a few $$ because my "work" [karaoke] speakers are shot and I need to buy a new set (anywhere between $400 and $1000!).

Well, here's my bad news for the day. DH and DD went to the store earlier today and after they got back, I discovered that my DD had stolen some gum. So back to the store we went where I made her confess to management what she did. I can't begin to tell you how angry, upset and disappointed I was. At 14 years old, one should know better! The store manager was very nice to her and didn't press charges - although I almost wish they would have. She's now in her room writing a 2 page essay on what she learned and why stealing is wrong, and she's grounded from anything "fun" until I decide otherwise. How long would you ground your teenager if they did something like this? I know I have to set a limit somewhere, but at the time I couldn't because I was so upset I would have told her she was grounded until she was 18! So I needed some thinking time before issuing a crime-approriate groundation period. Any advice would certainly help.

Okay, well thanks for listening. I'm sorry I had to vent that but it was good to get it out.

Cool Mom 01-19-2004 09:34 AM

I'm Posting! I'm Posting! I Can Just See Dahlia and The Whip!

Morning! ;)

Gosh, Lisa, what a weekend you had. I commend you on making your daughter accountable and returning the gum. Why not ask her how long she should be grounded for? I have occasionally done that with my kids -- ask them what they would do in my shoes if it was their child, etc. Whatever length of time you choose, just remember to stick to your guns. As long as she learns her lesson that is all that matters. I also loved Bruce Almighty even though I am not a huge fan of Jim Carey's -- a bit too slapstick and goofy for me at times.

Dahlia, good for you for breaking out the treadmill as I am thinking of doing that today as well. We only got about 3" of snow yesterday but it came down slowly all day so it was pretty and peaceful to watch.

Cathy, like Dahlia, I had a great visual of you dragging furniture and your computer. I can't even begin to imagine moving the computer with all those wires -- it's like a jungle down there. As a news hound myself, and a lover of both talk radio and CNN, I can't fault John too much -- we junkies have to stick together! Don't hate me now .... :^: :) .

I promise I am going to be very good today with all my food choices -- I really got out of control last week. I think all it takes is one bad day and then it's the dominoe effect taking over. And, Dahlia, thinking about having 75% of your stomach removed is incentive enough for me to really do this. Scary stuff.

OK, ladies, let's try for an OP day today whatever your plan maybe -- think summer and shorts!

Off to read the paper and my coffee -- :)

Always, Terry

Cool Mom 01-19-2004 09:40 AM

WHAT??!! No new posts since my lsat visit?? Of course it was 1 minute ago!

I found this bit of inspiration in an email this morning and thought I would pass it along. I know it's common sense but we lose sight of that at times so it's worth reinforcing -- at least I do anyway!

Overcoming the Urge to Splurge

Are you wrestling with the urge to splurge on junk food? You have two choices: Either indulge yourself and make up for it later, or figure out a way to work through the temptation. One Beachgoer shares her strategy for staying on the wagon:
"When I quit smoking about 20 years ago, I was able to cope in the following way, and I think it might work when a cookie is calling your name: Change your environment-that is, get up and walk away. You might want to put something legal in your mouth to help the cravings, but then go into another room or walk around the block. And while you are walking, remember why you are doing this to begin with! Picture yourself in that dress that you are longing to wear, or the bathing suit or the skirt. Just get through those difficult 10 or 15 minutes as best you can!"

BarbaraAnn 01-19-2004 10:33 AM

Terry: I have both the Cheerios with bananas and SpecialK with berries and love them. I found some cookie recipes to use up the Kashi....just don't know who I'd inflict the cookies on. I'll wait to see if any of my neighbors tick me off!

Had a nice week-end. Like zookeeper, I take Sundays off from exercise which is nice as I usually try to do a lot on Saturdays. My fave restaurant "Macaroni Grill" added quite a few new/healthy items to their menu. We went last night and I loved the Portabella grilled chicken and instead of it being served on pasta...I got grilled asparagus. I also...and this may well be a first...pushed my plate away when I was full without finishing. And best of all...I didn't bite or growl at the server when they took my plate away! That's right....we're talkin' some serious progress! ;)

My sons are home from school which means my routine of "finding" the house after the week-end has to wait til tomorrow. I like to at least appreciate it looking good for a few hours. We're going to clean the basement though and while down there...I'll do work-out on son's weight machine. I'm making improvements every other day..as expected but am most proud of my scary grunting noise I've mastered like the guys!

Have a great day (for a Monday)! Take care, Barb--

Cool Mom 01-19-2004 11:47 AM

Barbara -- morning! Since I am trying to cut back on carbs, I have no problem ordering a steamed or grilled vege instead of the rice or baked potato or fries when we eat out, and we do that quite often. I thought I would miss it, but I really don't. The bread basket is still a problem though but one step at a time! I had the Cheerios with Bananas last night for the first time and I really loved it too. I am waiting for someone to come out with packaged freeze dried fruits (like those that are in those cereals already) so that you can add them yourselves to any type of cereal or oatmeal, etc.

Back to laundry -- amazing how that basket never empties out no matter how hard you try to keep up!

And, I agree, nothing worse than having the kids home on Mondays -- wait a minute I take that back -- throw in the husband and it's a horrible start to the week :).

Later Gators!

Dahlia 01-19-2004 01:04 PM

Hi girls,
Glad to see some posts on here ;) .. I too love fruit with my cereal.. but Terry what is wrong with adding some real fruit,, slice up a banana or throw on some frozen(thawed) fruit on whatever you are eating...It seems we all have a cupboard full of cereal boxes. It comes in handy for a bedtime snack, at least it's something good for you.

Tomorrow we are having our grandbabies over for supper and the evening. My menu is hotdogs and french fries, which they love. Am going to throw in some cooked baby carrots and sliced cucumbers and some fruit. I get weighed and measured Wed. morning, so I am going to hopefully skip the fries.

Already took a walk on my treadmill this morning, planning on going to curves tomorrow, wed, and thurs. this week. Didn't have my car this morning and now I don't feel like going out into the cold. But will get my 3 days in and do the treadmill too. When I went down to the basement to walk, my dogs went ballistic up stairs.. they sat and howled so pathetically I had to come back up and take them down with me.. course as soon as I hopped back on the treadmill, they got bored and wanted back upstairs.. but I made them wait till I was done.. it was funny, how bored they looked watching me walk...

YEah!! the snowplow just went by...Maybe I'll head to curves yet today... I am so undecided :?: ... I'll keep you all in suspense till tomorrow, will I go or won't I...?

Keep up the good work everyone. Later

Dahlia

cat90 01-19-2004 03:06 PM

Hi Ladies,

Well, moving my computer has had the desired effect..i'm no longer sat at it all day  i can actually keep my house spotless now  i even did the spare bedrooms yesterday :cp: i'm in one of my chuck everything out and get everything organised moods  and yes i do workout..watch tv and exercise all at one time now  well almost..i'm just gonna do my 20min Pilates tape before B + B comes on.

Barb, "i did'nt bite or growl at my server" i don't know if i subconsciously do that or not  i've never tried the grunting technique either.

Off to "roll like a ball" be back soon

cat90 01-19-2004 03:44 PM

There thats Pilates done just need to do some cardio later :cp: think i need to do some therapeutic shopping :s: i have'nt been out for a few days and i'm starting to get cabin fever  i just might buy myself another "dummies" tape ;)

I actually had cornflakes and toast for brekky :) heck its about time i used some of those boxes up before they expire

Dahlia, that program sounded gruesome :faint: must see tv today is Oprah :cp: she's having Bob Greene on and some weightloss success stories not to mention the dreaded signing of the "contract" I'll be watching will you?

Cool Mom 01-19-2004 05:36 PM

Yo, me again!

Cathy, I did the treadmill during Oprah today -- funny you should mention it :). Some of those people looked awesome especially the first woman with the southern accent. Something they said really rang a bell -- we are all committed to losing weight, but the difference is, are we committed to do what we have to do to lose the weight?? Hit home with me anyway.

Cat, by the way, before I forget, great job on all the exercise and I think you should reward yourself with a shopping trip -- just stay away from the chocolate :D .

So far today I actually did the treadmill and stayed with my eating plan -- one hour at a time here!

Dahlia, I love banana in my cereal but I also just like the taste and texture of the freeze-dried fruits. Sometimes I'll have cereal for supper, especially in the summer.

We have not heard from Carol and Emily in awhile -- most likely just busy.

OK, time to get some supper going -- my cue to say "later gators!"

Have a great evening and if I don't check back in tonight, see you in the AM :)

Terry

TechAlum 01-19-2004 06:46 PM

Hello,

I've been reading your posts and decided to try to see if you all are freindly to new comers or not :D (just kidding) I had to laugh at the cereal stories, not that that's a problem for me, can't have milk it makes me phlemmy so I just skip cereal. Actually I make a 3-grain hot cereal that's really good and high in fiber (the recipe was from "cooking light").

Here's a little bit about my story: I've pretty much struggled with my weight my whole life although looking back I think the problems were imaginary until my 3rd year of college. I worked at McD's and they gave us a free meal and since I was broke free food was great and I porked up to 180lbs :o. I pretty much stayed there for a while until I had a bout of depression and gained 50 lbs in 6 months . I held that weight (+/- 15 lbs) for the next few years until I started traveling a lot for work and not paying attention and gained to my highest weight of 249 about 3 years ago. I joined WW (again) and lost and gained the same 15 lbs about a zillion times, and now have decided to go it alone for awile and am looking for a support group to be accoutable to. On a personal note: I'm in my 30's have a degree in Mechanical Engineering although I'm not doing that but trying to get started in Real Estate. I've been married for 2 years but we were together for 13 before that so it feels like forever. We don't have kids and are leaning towards not having any. We do have 2 dogs and a cat as well as an empty fish tank (need to fix that), and they're like kids to us.

Anyway I'll probably fill in more as time goes on.

I can't remember who posted what or when (that's the problem with reading 5 pages of posts), so I'm going to start from now.

Hope everyone has a great evening, need to go help get dinner going (dh volunteered to cook tonight).

zookeeper16 01-19-2004 07:53 PM

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi Tech and Welcome to our little group! Most of these gals have been here for years. I myself have been the yo-yo in the group...I'm here, I'm gone, I'm here, and gone. Well, I'm back again and trying to post daily. I did great when I had a group of friends I could be accountable to, so I'll stick to what works!

BTW - DH volunteers to cook but you have to get it started! Boy, he has you trained! LOL! Just kidding - but it sounds like my house and my DH!

Anyways, welcome to the group!

Cool Mom 01-20-2004 06:22 AM

Welcome Tech!!

Morning Everyone and Welcome Tech!!

The coffee's brewing, and I am up and awake and alive -- not bad considering the alternatives :D . Welcome to our humble little group, Tech -- I can tell with your sense of humor, you'll fit right in!

Boy, can I relate to the weight gain due to depression (add in some anxiety and panic attacks at this end -- now you know where the term "comfort food" comes from. I still have about 50 lbs to lose (give or take) but it is coming off slowly. I also am a firm believer in "better living thru chemistry" so that has taken care of the depression and panic attacks quite nicely. Thank you xanax and zoloft!

A little about me -- Ive been on 3fc for over 3 yrs now, 51 yrs old, two kids (18 & 23), two dogs, three cats, 2 hamsters, one husband. No fish -- don't eat them, touch them, or swim with them if I can help it  . I work with my husband who owns his own business and have a marketing and public relations background. Love to read, play Scrabble, do crosswords and watch the news. OK, did I scare you away, yet???

Have you gotten your real estate license yet or are you still in that process? Exciting field especially if you are a go-getter -- good luck!

BTW, I love "Cooking Light" and get it monthly. I also love hot cereals so if you get a chance, can you post the recipe?? Thanks in advance.

Morning Lisa!

At least you keep coming back to the fold and that's all that matters :grouphug: -- we are a small group but a nice one if I must say so myself!

Well, I did put in a good OP day yesterday so I am happy with that. I am also sore from the treadmill and it was only a short workout without much jogging -- I am adding a few more minutes each day until I get back to my 2-3 miles per day routine. Those baby steps do add up.

Wake up everyone  .... time to get my first cup of coffee and read the paper. Contemplating going to NYC over the weekend so I want to go online later and see what is going on there. A friend of mine from California is going to be there so we are in the process of making plans to meet and sightsee.

I'll be back later .... :comp: .... Terry

Good morning Terry, Lisa,Cat and welcome Tech.. and hello everyone else.
It is a cold one again. I'm almost out the door to go to curves but wanted to say hi. Is good to have some posts to read. Let's keep it up.

I know everyone is just dying to know if I went anywhere yesterday.. and the answer is NO... I turned on the radio and there were so many cancellations I figured I'd stay home and keep safe and warm, but I did do a set of exercises and walked on the treadmill so I was ok. Did really well with my eating too.

Tonight having the grandbabies, that is exercise in itself..:)

Tech, I am 53, married with 5 sons, 2 of whom are married and have given me 3 grandbabies, and each one has another one on the way this summer. My boys are 30-28-26-24 and 21. Grandbabies are 3-3-1 (will be 2 in 2 wks).
Hubby and I own and operate a commercial greenhouse. I love to read, write and do mind games, play cards on computer or for real, travel and play with my grandbabies. I've been fighting the battle for too many years now and have decided to end the war once and for all. Hope I am the winner.

OK, well I better get going, I want to go shopping after curves, its' my little reward... I am doing some applique stockings for the new babies. I also love crafts and decorating and enjoy watching hgtv. Ok that is more than you wanted to know I am sure...

I think you will fit in here just fine.. we can always use another shoulder.

Welcome Tech...you picked a fun group to hang out with. I'm new to the fold myself having just joined the end of December. They're a fun and friendly group here. There's 3 of us from Michigan hanging out here now.

I'm 42, married with 2 sons (16 & 13). For many years I did the books for my husband's business...got tired of that so now I help update a website and edit books (Saltwater aquaria). Noticed you have an empty fish tank...give salt a chance! This coming from a proclaimed addict with 375g reef in my living room!

Glad you enjoyed my cereal escapade....just remember:
"Friends don't let friends do K*shi". ;)

Good morning everyone! First a Vent! Okay, so who gave me that 1.5 lbs back? Where did they come from!? Man, thats frustrating! I've been working out for two straight weeks, no soda, drinking lots of water, watching what I'm eating, making smoothies of fruits/vegs, and what does it get me?
NADA! The scale this morning was back where I started! I'm hoping its either a) too much salt yesterday or b) my muscles are toning up (and muscle weighs more than fat).

Hi Again, Tech! I'm a 33yo SAHM of 2 (DS6 and DD14). Although I stay at home, I also own two businesses - professional pet sitting and Karaoke (soon to expand into DJing, I think). Our friends started a band three years ago and I've been doing all their photography for PR and their website, and now people are approaching me to do weddings and such! I also volunteer at our school and church, as well as serving on several boards for both. And I volunteer in 4H. We have 2 inside dogs, 1 inside cat, a bird, fish, guinea pig and a bird. Outside we have 11 cats, 6 rabbits, 4 horses, 6 guinea hens, 2 peacocks, a pheasant and a flock of chickens! In the summer, I love to garden and try to maintain a 20x100 foot plot! [Boy, do I wish I lived closer to Dahlia!] I also just re-started selling on Ebay. So all that tends to keep me busy. You would think I'd be skinny, but nope! I also have hypothyroidism, PCOS and insulin resistance, so there are three strikes against me - especially since I love carbs!

Well, I'm sure that's "weigh" more than you needed to know, huh?

Did my yoga for today and am working on my water. Hopefully this "no loss month" will improve! Have a great day everyone!

Dahlia 01-20-2004 01:23 PM

Lisa, I think you and I ought to go on an anti-scale campaign.:) I think it's a conspiracy to keep us frustrated.. but seriously I forgot muscle weighs more than fat, so maybe those couple pounds that keep playing with me are muscles.. I can always hope.. I'll find out if I lost any more inches tomorrow.. and it would be nice if we all lived closer together, think of the coffee clatches we could have...:)

Hello All -

Thanks for all the warm welcomes (except Cat).

Just stopping in really quick between outings. We have to eat earlier than usual so I can go to a seminar tonight. Did pretty well sticking to my plan yesterday (eat every 2.5-3.5 hours, stay with in pts from WW, write everything down and cut back on the alcohol (mainly wine)). And today's been going pretty well too. I was hoping to do my belly-dancing exercise video (which I only do with no audience  ), but we had 9 houses on our tour this morning and not one was a ranch, so between getting in and out of the car and all those stairs I'm whipped.

Terry - I'll try to remember to get that recipie for you. I got my license in Oct of last year, and am starting to get my feet wet. I really hope this will work out, although my cell phone is already becoming an extention of my hand which I'm not to sure about, may have to work on setting limits....

Daliah - now I'll know who to ask about all my gardening questions. I've just sort of gotten started since I became a home owner in '99 and I've been using the hit or mis method to this point. Can't blame you about staying inside yesterday, it was pretty wicked out.

Lisa - actually he did all the prep and I tossed it in the pan, I think I had the easy part (we split the cooking pretty evenly between us). Hang in there if you're doing everything right it will eventually show on the scales...

Barb - your freinds comment made me laugh and DH wanted to know what I was laughing about.

Cat - sorry about the visual.... I'm impressed with all the exercise, that's by far my weak point (with the wine)

Well gotta go grab dinner...Have a great night everyone.

-Tech :blah:

Only me again -- it's most definitely muscle weight, Lisa. In fact someone on another thread was telling me she read a book on throwing away the scale and only using an article of clothing to measure yourself with -- this is especially important when you are doing weights and gaining that initial weight. You don't get discouraaged and cut back which is the usual norm. No treadmill today -- no excuses -- went grocery shopping. A new store opened up and I went to check it out -- nothing to write home about. I have a new addiction -- feta cheese. Funny because I never liked it until recently. Didn't buy the store out so that was a good thing!

Tech -- watch out for that Cat, she's a wild one! OK ladies time to make dinner. Dahlia, Barb and everyone .... catch ya in the morning. Someone have the coffee going!!!!

Terry :)

zookeeper16 01-20-2004 07:48 PM

Terry - Thanks for the words of encouragement. I will try to let my jeans and my DH be my guides! He always can tell - remember that hip comment? LOL! I do feel "stronger" lately but was thinking it was just a frame of mind. I've also been doing yoga and pilates and am shocked at how little flexibility I have! That will get better too.

Tech - Let us know how those bellydance exercises go. I'd try one know but my belly would spend too much time catching up to the rest of my body and throw me off balance! LOL! What a visual, huh?

Well, gotta get going again....been working on karaoke books all day. ICK!

cat90 01-20-2004 10:21 PM

Hi Ladies,

Tech..i was only teasing :joker: i've looked at the belly dancing vids but they are a bit on the pricey side so i have'nt bothered :( (yet!) whats your opinion? do you feel like you've had a workout..is it fun? I'm :nose: nosey too as well as cheeky ;)

Picked up my new passport this afternoon :cb: and booked the tix :D :hyper: all i have to do now is concentrate on losing some lard before i go ;)

Cool Mom 01-21-2004 08:03 AM

Morning!

Quick fly by to say hello and wish everyone a good day :). I got up early as we need to move Chris out of the dorms this morning as he wants to commute. Of course the "we" is "me" and one of his friends. Where are husbands when ya really need 'em??!

Cathy, great to hear that you bought your ticket -- is John going with you again this time? I bet with each trip the flight gets more bearable. How exciting -- you'll be holding Olivia soon :).

Tech, I have a friend who used to do the belly dancing videos and she said they are quite the workout -- I'm impressed. My belly would be gyrating like Lisa's -- UFO actually.

I couldn't sleep last night and stayed up reading until 3am -- the alarm comes mighty early on days like that.

Need to get out of here in 45 minutes -- catch ya all on the rebound!

Up and attem, Dahlia, Barb and company!!

Dahlia 01-21-2004 08:32 AM

Good morning,
Terry I am up and out the door to go to curves, will catch you all later.
Have a good day,
Dahlia

zookeeper16 01-21-2004 04:28 PM

Hey all! I'm in a great mood today! I made $130 today for just opening up savings accounts for each member in our family! I needed that - especially since I just spent almost $500 on business expenses! I was tickled pink! If anyone wants details, let me know!

I am doing great today! The scale still isn't moving (stop looking every day, Lisa!) but I am feeling more toned. DH notices it in my hips.....whatever that means! HEE HEE! I have been eating great today and getting lots of work done.....I think the "rush" that exercise is supposed to give you is finally catching up to me! I'm not so lethargic and tired in the afternoons like I was. I have more pep. My eating has been good too.....and I'm working on 96 ounces of water right now.

Well, that's my check in for now! Hope everyone else is doing great too!

cat90 01-21-2004 06:40 PM

Hi Ladies,

T, Yep..John is coming along too but its only a short trip this time so i'm going to cram as much into it as possible :D the only thing that spoils it is that i know that my stepson will have a party while we are gone :rollpin: when we got back in September i found that the receiver would'nt work and i discovered why..someone must have opened a lively beer and it sprayed all over our hi-fi system and shorted out the receiver  when i confronted him about it he said "are you sure" (playing dumb) and his Dad never says a word to him  I just don't see why i should have to put up with it because he does'nt even live with us yet he can come up here and wreck our things without consequence. Anyway, i have'nt had it fixed so there won't be any music for them this time

Did my Callenetics vid yesterday and although i'm not sore i can tell i've been twisted like a pretzel  today i just stuck to my treadmill...eating is on plan although i've just had some pineapples and light ice cream :T sat indoors today..boredom will get me every time.

Sammy01 01-21-2004 07:10 PM

Hi all,

Sounds like you all are doing well and good in the motivation department. Right on! I'm having a pretty good week and am hoping the scale will reflect that on Friday. Tonight is our book study at church so it's a night off from working out but that's okay as I got pretty ambitious on the elliptical machine last night and my quads are still a bit sore....no pain no gain though right???? :)

Tech, welcome to the group. These ladies are fantastic and are always full of good advice. I'm starting belly dancing lessons on Monday so wish me luck!

Lisa, you are doing so well on the exercise and I agree that it's the muscle your building that's holding the scale where it is. Be sure to take your measurements!

Cathy, sounds like you've had some great days this week. If you are truly in cleaning and organizing mode, might I interest you in a trip to Edmonton at Chez Kadach et Moi so you can work some magic around here???? Pretty please????

Dahlia, how do you like Curves? I've been toying with the idea of joining but heard it is a really high sign up fee.

Terry, how are Katie's wedding plans coming along? Did I read right that Chris is moving back home and then driving back and forth to campus?

Barbara, Hi there :)

Well I've still got dinner to make and stuff to do before church tonight so I better get a move on. Just wanted to say hi and let you know I'm still hanging around.

Pam

Cool Mom 01-22-2004 08:14 AM

Just me saying "Good Morning" t'all :). I can't keep my eyes open so I will be back after some heavy duty caffeination to chat. If I fall back to sleep :tired: it may be closer to noon. Dang, I need to get back to work as a body could get used to this lifestyle. It just dawned on me why I am so tired -- Tylenol PM will do it everytime. Yep, it's looking like noon ;) .
