Jaded Ladies weekly challenge #2: Nov.3rd.

Here we go again! Week #2

Ok ladies--This thread is being borrowed from the support forum. But I think we could use a little challenge to give us a little kick start at getting back OP!! And anyone who is new and would like to join---jump right in!! The more the merrier!!

The weekly challenge is going to be about things like saying; I will go to the gym 3x this week, or I'll keep my calories to a total of 14,000 for the week, or I will not eat anything after 6 p.m. 3x this week. So, if you want to eat 14,000 calories one day and fast for the next 6 fine! Or, you can go to the gym three days straight and then flop back and do absolutely zilch for the next four.

You will allow yourselves to customize your challenge to suit yourself. It also means that getting back after a fall doesn't mean you've lost any ground at all. It'll inspire that crucial element of success -- the POWER TO PERSIST!! I think it'll be a great motivator and great source of empowerment!!

SO, come on!! If you're interested please jump aboard and tell us your plan for the week and then keep us posted with progress reports and tell us when your goal is accomplished, be it early in the week or at the end. We'll do this starting Monday and wrapping up Sunday night of each week.

So what do you say?? Ready to do this? Well then... Let's go!!

FrouFrou 11-01-2003 03:13 PM

I'M HERE...

Count me in again Marti! :) And again thanks for this thread!

I'm going to go ahead and post my challenge:

1) Drink 4-16.9 oz bottles of water-no less than 5 days. I have a hard time getting my water down. I do good for a couple of days and then slack off.

2) Walk 2 miles 3 days-ride stationary bike 15 minutes 3 days.

I am listing the same goals as last week. I want to make both these an everyday habit for me and didn't do so good last week. so I will keep trying until I get ir right! ;) Actually I modified it as I am getting back on my schedule of walking 2-3 miles 3 days a week and doing the WATP video, and the bike ride 3 days a week.

 Here's to a new week, a new month, and a new beginning ladies! Enjoy and have fun! :flow2:

Kayecee 11-02-2003 11:12 AM

Hey Y'all!

O.k.- after week's of research and waffling back and forth between low-fat and low-carb, I have decided on Carbohydrate Addict's diet (CAD). So my goal for the week is to continue drinking water and stick to CAD! ( :stress: Please someone- hold my hand- I'm scared to make a commitment even though I know this is the most logical choice for me! Y'all just tell me that I am gonna do o.k. and won't continue to gain!) BTW I really am crying as I write this! :( I'm a procrastinator and I tell myself that if I just keep planning what to do, my weight won't get worse while I am making my plans- then of course, it does. *sigh*

Kayecee 11-02-2003 11:14 AM

Did that make sense? Sorry for all the negativity!

Marti 11-02-2003 02:34 PM

Here we go again

Ok for me since water hasn't been a problem I been thinking hard :chin: of an excercise to do. I have decided that my thighs are starting to become one :yikes: so it's time to do something about it. So here goes:

Squats or lunges: 3 sets of 10 reps. 4-5's this week.

I absolutely HATE squats!! But I must work on the thigh and make it into two!! :sumo: ( <--looks like he's doing squats doesn't he? Or at least trying!!)

Kayecee--We will all hold your hand... but I don't think you're going to need us... I just know you can do it!! But just in case,,, we're here for you. :grouphug:

Ok everybody!!! I'm ready.:hyper:..........I think.

FrouFrou 11-02-2003 02:43 PM

Yes Kayecee, we are all here to hold your hand! We are always here for you! I know you will do it, I have faith in you. :grouphug:

I wanted to add to my challenge a #3~Take my vitamins!!! I always forget too!

Marti 11-02-2003 04:05 PM

Yes Yes!!! I need to add that one too! Thanks for the reminder Cristi... I'm going to take one right now!!

Jane 11-03-2003 08:19 AM

Count me in, although over the weekend I un-did all the good I had done last week! What a stupid thing to do!

I will drink lots water (at least a 1/2 gallon a day) and stick to WW. No promises regarding exercise. Last week I found that it was too much, too soon, and won't set myself up for failure this week! So any exercise I get in will be a bonus. :D

Jana

justme2338 11-03-2003 11:32 AM

OK this week it's back on track time. I will workout 5 times and eat within my calorie range.

NO JUNK FOOD!

:)

Skew 11-03-2003 12:28 PM

I need to continue reminding myself this is a
process. To not obsess daily but to remind myself
that a one pound loss per week adds up to 52 per
year. That while 1 a week seems paltry and
somehow unimpressive when the big picture is kept
in focus it truly is an impressive accomplishment.

So that's my goal. To live in the present while
keeping the future in firm focus. With any luck
at all it'll make it easier to realize that an
average is just that, an average, when the scales
and tape refuse to cooperate no matter how hard
I'm working. That's when the entire big picture
concept needs to be working it's magic. :)

Marti 11-03-2003 07:29 PM

1 day down, 3-4 to go!!

First of all: Good to see you again Skew and Natalie.

Well day one is done. And OMG!!! Let me tell you something. I had done these squats before and always thought I was doing something good... But that was w/o the excercise ball. Holy Cow.... using the ball helped with my posture and I really felt my thighs screaming with agony!!:yikes: I didn't realize how bad I was doing before!! So for now on.... I'm using the ball to help me out!! No more doing all the work and getting nothing out of it!!

Ok... going to hobble on out of here.:tired:

Marti

FrouFrou 11-03-2003 08:38 PM

Just posting that I got my exercise (walk) in, water drank and vitamins taken.

petra 11-03-2003 09:46 PM

I'm late but here it goes - I will drink 5-8 8oz glasses of water 5 days this week and eat 5 fruits/vegies everyday. I'm on WW but these are my two hardest things.

Marti 11-04-2003 10:46 AM

2 days down, 2-3 to go!!

Petra! It's never too late!! Glad you joined the challenge with us.

Well ladies---I got my squats done this morning.. I got up out of bed this morning and couldn't stay balanced I was so sore... so I figured if I just do my squats this morning, it'll help stretch them out.... and it did!! So that'll be my morning thing...

Wake up-
Whine-
Do squats-
Go about my day!

That's pretty simple don't you think??? Wonder if I could skip it all and just whine......:dizzy: ....just kidding!!!!

I'm actually feeling pretty positive today. What a way to start the morning.

Ok... gotta get ready for school.:twirly:

Marti

Oh yes.... I also took my vitamin!!!

Kayecee 11-04-2003 08:03 PM

2 days down and.....

I've been a good girl! :cb:

I've been a good girl! :cb:

I've been a good girl! :cb:

I've been a good girl! :cb:

Jane 11-04-2003 09:20 PM

Just me reporting in... so far so good! Did anyone check out Dr. Phil's show today? Terri (one of the challengers) has posted some recipes on his site, and I'm going to check them out. If I find anything good, I'll pass them along.

Later,
Jana

FrouFrou 11-04-2003 10:06 PM

Hi Ladies,

Well, today wasn't so good. I got my exercise done and my vitamins taken but not one drop of water. Bad girl, bad, bad, bad girl. :( I guess 2 out of 3 is not bad, but I defintely will get it in tomorrow.

Marti 11-05-2003 09:00 PM

still 2 down, still 2-3 to go!!

Taking this day to rest my poor legs!! Walking around school then spending an hour walking around the mall.... I felt like they were bruised!! But I will get back to it tomorrow. Still have a few days to go!!

petra 11-05-2003 11:54 PM

My worst enemy is myself - but today was better than yesterday and tommorrow is new :spin: :spin: and I will drink my water and eat my vegies:dance:

FrouFrou 11-06-2003 09:23 AM

I am not doing so good ladies! :yikes: Yesterday I got no exercise and no water-BAD! :( I was busy and I know that is no excuse because we should always make time for exercise and water. I wish water was appealing to me to grab a bottle instead of a diet coke. Anyway, I am going to get it done today. I have to go to the mall today so I am just going to walk there. And I am working on the water as I speak or type. :comp: I have been taking my vitamins. Today will be a better day, and I did say 5 days and still have four left so...Hope everyone has an OP or challenge day!

Marti 11-06-2003 08:14 PM

3 down, 1-2 to go!

Ok... today I did them. I felt like I was going to pass out :faint:from it but I did them. Ok,,, so maybe I'm exagerating a bit about passing out... but my legs still hurt!!!

Also took my vitamin. You know, that's harder to remember to do than doing the squats!!!

Ok... I will post tomorrow.

Take Care Ladies
Marti

Kayecee 11-06-2003 08:24 PM

Doing good so far. I have 2 more bottles of water to go but I stayed OP. Woo Hoo!

Jane 11-06-2003 08:58 PM

I'm a hopeless case! The only thing I'm doing really well with is the water. Not horrible with the food, but not very good....

One thing I have found out is that I have a lot more energy when I get protein at every meal.

Jana

FrouFrou 11-07-2003 08:43 AM

I feel like a hopeless case also! UGH! But I am going to do this till I get it right! I had 2-24 oz. bottles of water, which I still think is better than nothing, but...I know I need to get more, lots more! I did get my walk in at the mall yesterday and I WILL get the WATP video done sometime today, if it kills me! And I am going to go get my vitamins right now while I am thinking about it.

You know Marti, that is so true. It is harder to remember to take the vitamins than anything else.

Kayecee 11-07-2003 10:03 PM

Came up short on one bottle of water yesterday and today but am staying OP. I don't know if the CAD will keep working but so far so good. I am really able to stay low carb for breakfast and lunch with only a few low carb snacks because I know that I can have a few carbs and a sweet at supper. My cravings are gone. I ALWAYS get a Reeses Peanut Butter cup from the candy cart every afternoon recess. I haven't done that once this week. I even had to stand next to the candy cart while I was on duty Wednesday and I realized later that it didn't even cross my mind to get one. I even passed up some sweets in the lounge because they just didn't appeal to me. In the past I would have gobbled down cardboard if someone had sprinkled sugar on it and called it pie! Please God! Let this continue to work!

HINT: I have asthma medication to take every morning and evening. I have contacts that I put in and take out every day, so I put my asthma medication with my contact supplies. I rarely forget that way. Maybe y'all could try something like that with the vitamins. Is there anything that you do religiously each day? If so, put the vitamins with it.

Kayecee 11-07-2003 10:16 PM

Jana and Cristi- It's o.k. We still love you! <<<HUGS>>> BTW one reason that I have stuck to this diet is because I haven't put any pressure on myself. (I literally don't make it through the first day on most diets- no lie) I haven't told anyone that I am dieting. Mom doesn't even know because when I come home, I eat the same things that I did before, but my appetite has calmed down and I don't seem to consume them in huge quantities. It must be all the extra protein.
:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes to y'all!

Marti 11-07-2003 11:38 PM

4 down, maybe one more to go!!

Well I did them today... Still sore. And still whining. Soon they will stop aching right!!??? So that makes it four days! But I am going to try and get in five. Depending on if I feel like whining about it or not.:D

Take care
Marti

P.S. On the other weekly challenge thread, at the end of every week they post little sunshines as rewards for succeeding that week... should we try that? Or should we just get ourselves used to doing this?? Let me know.

Kayecee 11-08-2003 10:10 AM

Show us what you mean by the little sunshines.

Marti 11-08-2003 12:06 PM

Ok Kayecee....

Ok here is an example............

Kayeccee--- :sunny:

Jana--:sunny:

Petra--:sunny:

Cristi--:sunny:

Marti--:sunny:

Natalie--:sunny:

That's how it would look if we "completed" our week. We don't necessarily have to have the sun...we could use the encoure::encore: we can use whatever we want. And for making an effort for that week, but not completing it... we could use... whatever you think would be appropriate. I'm not sure what but you all can help me out here.

What do you think? That way we feel we're working for something. When I worked for Sony, the woman who did the Fitness Challenge... created a track. She had huge poster board with a track drawn on it...every 1/2hr. or hour (represented a mile) that we excercised, she would move our name which was on a pair of little fipflops whe made... and at each certain point..(I think it was every 5 or 10 miles) she handed out little gifts. The first one being a bottle of gatorade and power bar. Half way was a t-shirt and finishing it was a sweatshirt. It was cool. People didn't know what the "little" gifts were so they strived to get there. And I figured, here, even though it's just a smilie face... it's something. You're working to "get something" and we all like "getting" things don't we??

Ok. I was going to make this quick, but it turned out longer. Oh yeah, and after each week, you would have to let me know if you thought you succeeded or made an effort. Make sense?

Kayecee 11-09-2003 09:36 AM

Sounds great!

I like that idea! Why don't we also post a mini- goal (like 10 pounds) and a small reward that we are going to give ourselves when we reach it. We could do it on another thread and call it Reward Thread or something. That way this thread won't be overshadowed! It doesn't necessarily have to cost anything. I know some of us are on tight budgets. It could just be a bubble bath with no kids allowed or some quiet reading time.

FrouFrou 11-09-2003 05:39 PM

GREAT ideas Marti and Kayecee! I am all for both.

I actually did better this week than last and did better than I thought I did. So I am ready for a new week!
