Steel Magnolias — #32

  • Good Afternoon! After a perfect weather day yesterday we are back to higher humidity today. I won’t complain because we don’t have to shovel yet, and it’s sunny. I ran some errands this morning starting at WM. There were a lot of bare shelves so wonder what is going on there. Of course a few of the things I needed weren’t there. I picked up the gift shop money forgetting we weren’t open Monday so not much there.

Ceejay, Jason was born on our 6th anniversary, on Labor Day no less. It was announced in church Sunday our service will be at 10 from now on. There was no input from the congregation so some of us aren’t very happy about that. As it is now we twiddle our thumbs waiting to go at 9:30. We used to have two services before COVID, 8:30 and 11:00. We always went to the early one. Our pastor tends to run over the hour so no reason to stick with an hour to move on to Sunday School. I hope your eyes and ear are back to normal or at least much better.

My dryer should be done and I have another load waiting in the washer. Have a nice weekend!
  • Good Afternoon! It's a cloudy cool day in my corner of the world today. The sun is trying to peek through just in time to start going down. I have been home all day and have spent most of my time trying to balance the gift shop check book. I was an even $1000 off so knew it was an addition or subtraction mistake. I always double check with the calculator after writing more than one check or adding deposits, just to make sure my mental math still works. For some reason I missed one number and didn't catch it last month either. I ended up having to go back to July. My check book is very colorful with black, red, and green ink marks! I only had to change the one number in each transaction so once I found it, didn't take long to fix. We went to Ian's first jv game yesterday. He played defensive end and was in the game often; Bob figured at least 75% of the game. They won 16-6 and it was a nice evening, no jackets needed. We stayed after to talk to him and he was in heaven getting to play. Today he had to be in the weight room at 6:15! Jason had an important school board meeting he couldn't miss and felt awful about missing Ian's game. But Beth was able to come and right before the game, she led a yell from all of us to get his attention. We were sitting higher than we usually do but he heard us and waved!

I need to put my gift shop papers away and think about something light for supper. Popcorn sounds good! Have a nice evening!
  • Morning
My sister is moving back into the condo today. She's excited and so am I. I've moved two truck loads for sis and there is probably more to come. But she is getting the beds moved from ash grove to Branson today and expecting her man friend from Texas this afternoon. The condo is beautiful.
I've started walking in the park but I still have not gotten up to a mile yet. I 'm going to the park here in Battlefield cause its smaller and I feel more confident there. And it's near the police department.
Last week I had conjunctivitis due to the allergies and this week it's in my ears. I'll be glad when all this allergy season is over. I'm taking Allegra.
I was shorted some meds on a refill last month so I got that straightened out and am good to go.
    Have a great day.
  • Good Morning! The sun is shining but it was 47 degrees when I came downstairs this morning. Brr! We are still operating with the cable company WiFi name and password. The last repairman who came to the house, last week, found out from the company contact that the glitch was a broken part on their site and not ours. It is supposed to automatically switch when their part is fixed. I hope so! We had our first couples card club Sunday night and I played again yesterday afternoon. I had mostly "bad" cards but enjoyed the comraderie after not being together for over a year. Ernie goes to the vet today; he hasn't had any of Baby's food since the last visit two months ago so hope he has lost some weight. He doesn't feel like it though.

Ceejay, hope you are feeling better by now! More people have commented their allergies have been worse this year and I agree! My internet has been hit and Miss ever since the techs visited last weekend. I have trouble downloading anything, then again it will work fine. Your house will be quiet with your sister having moved. on walking in the park! There are always nice things to notice thanks to Mother Nature.

I need to get busy and accomplish something today! Hope you enjoy a nice day!
  • Evening
I've been on an exercise kick this week but I think I've stirred up my SI joint in my right hip. It has really had the ouchies today, but I've put some Voltarin on it and it does feel better unless I move to fast.
Allergies are still with me but I'm getting them under control.
The weather has been perfect for the beginning of Fall. I'm loving it.
We are having nephew A and his children tomorrow. Sis will be spending the night with me tomorrow night as well. She did finally get to stay at the condo this week. She's still moving in things but the furniture and appliances are in. I'm going down Tuesday to meet the washing machine repairman.
Hope you are doing well. Have a great week end.

  • Good Morning! The sun is hazy this morning and rain is supposed to move in this afternoon. We've had some beautiful warmer days with cooler nights. We went to Zowie's game last night; she made a goal and so close to another one. Her team won 7-0! The ref was a good one explaining his calls to the girls. They don't often do that unless the coach questions the call. She has one more game and then done for the season. Ian hurt his shoulder in practice a couple days ago. He won't suit up for the Saturday game nor play in the jv game on Monday. They took x-rays and nothing is broken, just sprained and very sore. He said a big fat kid tripped and fell on top of him. Ian had fallen in an odd position so that's why his shoulder got twisted. The team trainer is working with him during practice every day. I have a hospital auxiliary board lunch at noon today and have to give my annual report. It will be at the resort since the hospital cafeteria is closed to the public. Then I have bell practice later this afternoon.

Ceejay, I would love to see your sister’s condo! I’m sure it is beautiful. Glad you are enjoying your exercise “kick.” Hope your hip feels better. Everyone seems to have allergies worse this fall, even those who never had them before. We can’t burn leaves inside the city limits but we are on the edge so can smell the farms if they burn. Our’s are the last to fall but we have a lot!

I need to get busy and do some laundry before I leave. Enjoy a wonderful Wednesday!

    Morning.
    I'm loving Fall.
Tomorrow is garbage day so I've cleaned out both refrigerators. something was stinking in sissy's. she wants to eat healthy but she does not always do it.

My niece called this morning and her fiance had an interview. She said he seemed excited so hopefully he will start soon if they hired him. My nephew supposed to have started a new job yesterday. His shift began at 6 a.m. to early for me.

Not much else going on. Allergies and hip are both better.

    Have a great day.

  • Good Morning! It is a gloomy wet morning in my neighborhood. We've had almost 2" of much needed rain Thursday and yesterday. Fields are muddy so no harvesting for a few more days. I have laundry in the washer and another load waiting to go. I really need to clean some kitchen cupboards and drawers but it is so dark and dreary the motivation is nil. I have been complaining about how my oven bakes and finally dug out the book to see if we could figure out how to adjust the temperature. I followed the instructions and so did Bob, several times and the described "reading" wouldn't come up on the screen like it was supposed to. Bob took the owner's manual to the appliance store and the repairman was done for the day and getting ready to leave. He stopped by on his way home and couldn't get it to work either. He started out by saying that books sent with appliances didn't always match the appliance they came with. Really?!?! He said he would look up the code he was getting on the screen and get back to us next week. We've only had the stove two years and I don't think it ever did bake right. They just don't make things like they used to!

Ceejay, I’m good at letting food get old and/or moldy in the fridge. I always have good intentions but just don’t do very well with most leftovers. Hope both jobs pan out for your family.

The washer should be done so I'd better get at least that much accomplished this morning. Hope you are enjoying sunshine and have a nice day!
  • Good Afternoon! It's a gloomy cool day in my neighborhood today. Our adventure for the day was to go visit the grave marker man in a small town about 45 minutes from here. It was over back roads so met quite a few big tractors pulling grain carts. We got a list of places to get markers when we bought our cemetery lot a year ago and the cemetery man recommended this particular guy saying he was very fussy and particular. I've been trying to get ahold of him for two months and while we were in his office his phone rang twice and he just ignored it. The light was blinking when we sat down so assume he had messages waiting. He shares office space with the Culligan Water business who had two people talking on phones when we walked in. It was a bit chaotic to say the least. The marker man's desk, an open file drawer, and floor were nothing but piles and more piles. He had checks laying willy-nilly on top of his desk; it all made my piles look pretty neat. I asked Bob, "Mr. Neatnick," if he had to sit on his hands to keep from straightening papers. Anyhow, marker man said things were really back logged and he wouldn't even make a guess on delivery. We pretty much knew what we wanted so now it goes to a craftsman for a design setup, then our ok or changes we might want, then order the granite which will come from India. I was surprised to learn all the different countries where they can order granite. One more thing I can cross off my list. Bob left for the farm and I have bell practice later this afternoon.

I need to get a load of laundry in the washer and work on some more clutter. I do have a box of clothes ready for the SOS store! Have a nice rest of the day and enjoy!
  • Good Morning! We had sunshine earlier but the clouds are moving in. It's cooler today with possible rain sprinkles this afternoon. I've been doing laundry, wrote a couple sympathy cards, and still have to sort through some junk mail from yesterday. It seems like the junk mail and robo calls run in cycles. Our phone has been quiet the last couple days and I like it like that. It never fails that I just sit down and the phone rings. Our concert series begins tonight and I play bells in church tomorrow. There is a jv game tomorrow but Ian isn't playing. He is still having some tightness in his shoulder from getting hurt a week or so ago. The game is where my stepsister lives and we were looking forward to seeing them. Not much else is newsy from here. Hope you enjoy a nice weekend!
