Good Morning! It's a beautiful day in my neighborhood today! Bob is off on a tractor ride and I am leaving in a few minutes to run some errands. Other than that, not much is going on. Hope you enjoy a nice day today!
I guess I did it again. I swore I posted yesterday. I know I read it so I must have gotten called away and never got back to post. Who knows?
My red shoes came and they are dark pink so back they go. Disappointed because they are very cute shoes, but I also thought they were wedges and they aren't so probably couldn't have walked in them anyway. I ordered a different style that was much, much cheaper and more of a true red.
I am going to work on my blanket again today. I have just a few days and it will be done and I can get it finished up and mailed. I will be glad of that, but have to dig into my stash for something to take on the cruise. I have a pattern and yarn I bought months ago to make a basket with, I may do that or I have other yarn. I don't want to take my girlfriend's blanket because it is way too big and most of it is done anyway and just needs sewn together.
Jean: TX for starting a new thread! I almost said to heck with it when I left my wallet at home, but they really needed to be fixed and knew I'd have to go out the next day so thought I might as well just get it done. The owners sold it to my favorite nail tech there and he and his wife have made some nice improvements. She is a lot older than he is and wears really heavy make up. I expected some sweet little Vietnamese gal and she is a tiger though very nice. They have a little boy together but he is too young for the kid that works there who is an adult. Interesting dynamics for sure.
Everyone have a great weekend. We have shopping weekend this weekend so will be busy.
Happy Sunday! It's a bright sunny day in my neighborhood although we started the day with a few raindrops. Went to early church mainly because I had to pick up the money. I still don't feel like the new guy has much pr going for him. We went out for breakfast afterwards so I didn't have to fix lunch. I've been sorting, sorting, and sorting more clothes. I have piles to go to the Good Will, a couple boxes for the SOS store, and a pile of non-clothes items for the church rummage sale in October if Bob doesn't haul them away first. Needless to say the bedrooms are all a mess!
"Gma," there are several young Asians who come and go from my nail shop. I don't know if they are family members, friends, or transplants, but they never stay more than a few months. The last one I had for a pedicure spoke no English but she was good. What I don't understand is that the prices haven't gone up in the years I have been going there, yet the owners have made three trips back to Vietnam, he goes to the fitness center, two of their children go to the Catholic school, the youngest goes to daycare, and now he has braces on his teeth. Bob thinks it is drug money but I've seen no evidence of that. It could go on right under my nose and I would be clueless. They jibber jabber back and forth in their native language which I think is rude, but what do I know? The owners do speak English, he better than she. Hope your blanket is done and ready to mail!
I need to get going on my piles again so I'm off. Enjoy the rest of your day!
Good morning, ladies. Another rainy day in the low 80s for us. It's very humid.
Back to my usual routine - Y for exercise in the morning, 30 minutes of housework in the afternoon, lots of quilting and reading. Also back to my quilting bees. This week I have my annual eye check up with my cataract surgeon. My knees are doing great. No more pain!
Donna, I'd love to have a pair of red shoes. They are really rare in the orthopedic shoes I wear. I have to get new shoes in 6 months according to Dr. B because my gait will have changed since my surgery. I can get new insoles for my Alegria but I'll need athletic and black and brown lace-up shoes so that will be about $400. Won't be long until your cruise now.
Jean, It's hard to get used to a new minister when you had to same one for so long. We usually change priests every 5 years so the congregation doesn't get too attached. We've had Father Mike longer because he is blind and it's hard for him to be moving to new places. We all love him. We only expect our priests to say Mass and take care of Church stuff. We have committees to bring communion and visit the sick, take care of the altar, lawn, building maintenance, etc. We have coffee, juice and donuts available between Masses. People usually make a small donation if they take something. We like this time to chat with friends, introduce ourselves to new people and just mingle.
Good morning to you all. I stuck my head out of the door this morning and it was so humid you could hardly breathe. We are back to being hot and very humid, but it is August and the worst part of the year for that.
We did WM and commissary shopping and I was sick all day yesterday. Don't know why, just felt bad and had a low temp. All my joints hurt, my allergies seemed to be really bad and I just had to push myself to get the shopping done. On top of that, they had no beef or pork in the cases with some stupid excuse that there were a lot of customers. That is total bologney because shelves weren't full either. I still think they are trying to run people off so they can close. They spent a ton of money on the bathrooms and guess they don't have enough to finish them now because they never have opened. They have shelves with food sitting in front of them and you have to go to the back and go through the employees lounge to the bathroom.
Hopefully the shoes come today. I bought a new lightening cord and it is wandering around in Murfeesboro somewhere as it was supposed to be delivered Friday and now they are saying Tuesday. I ordered another handbag. I am trying to get a crossbody that is not too big but will accommodate my wallet for the cruise. This is bright orange cowhide type leather so we shall see. If it doesn't work, back it goes. I know surprised, but I have tons of bags and I am going to be either selling or giving away a lot of off brand ones after we come back.
Jean: I still have a bit to go, but am making progress and hopefully by the end of the week I can get the thing ready to ship. I have used that youtube video of connecting yarns several times and it seems to work great. We shall see when it goes through the washer if it holds up. If not, she will be getting a gift card and I will use the yarn for something else after I take it apart, but it does seem sturdy and no ends, which is great.
Susan: It is great to see you in here and know you are doing well with your knees. I have noticed because I only got the distance fixed that I have to wear readers, but that's ok. I don't mind that as my distance vision is so wonderful now. I can't wait to use the pool at the hotel in Fort Lauderdale. We are going to be there from Wednesday afternoon until Saturday morning and I plan on wearing it out. It is a huge lagoon style thing and has a wonderful deep end. Most hotel pools are only 4-5 ft deep. I haven't been swimming at all this season and really miss it.
Good Afternoon! We got up to 1/4" of rain but the sun came out on my way to church. It's another beautiful day! Counting was off this morning because I put two of the receipt envelopes back in the blank envelope pile. When we double checked the checks there were two left over and I knew I had written both envelopes. Guess I can't talk and "work" at the same time. Then the computer I usually use didn't have the icon I needed and I didn't know where to look in the innards, so just used the secretary's machine. Gift shop money was easy and is in the bank! I wrote checks and took them back to the hospital after lunch. Have laundry going now and will have towels to fold soon.
Susan, glad your new knees are working so well and you have no pain. Wonderful! Yesterday, at church, the liturgist reminded everyone to be sure and wear our name tags so the new pastor could learn names. We don't see hide nor hair of him before the service starts where as the previous pastor was always milling around, saying good morning, and making small talk with people. I found out a couple of our fill-in speakers are going to be at the Presbyterian Church where they are also pastorless. We are going to go and hear them speak! So far our Sunday sermons have been a synopsis of the Disney movie shown the week before. He ads an appropriate Bible verse and calls it good.
"Gma," hope your shoes arrive today. I have never heard of a lightning cord. I didn't see them but one of the grocery stores had yellow watermelons in their ad. It said, "sweeter than regular watermelon with hints of honey and apricot." Sounds good.
My dryer is buzzing so need to get moving. Hope you all are enjoying a nice day today!
Good morning all. We have been having some strong rain this morning and it is very humid and dreary out today.
I have a killer headache that won't seem to go away. It is down in my neck this morning. I think I laid wrong on my pillow last night or something as I woke up with it. Haven't done much this morning except a load of laundry, the dw unloaded and finished the baby blanket. Cleaning is going to have to wait until the headache goes away for sure.
Jack wants Frito Chili Pie for dinner so that is what he is getting. I may just have a sandwich. The chili usually gives me heartburn and it is pretty fatty to boot.
Jean: My shoes came and fit great. They have elastic so if my feet swell some they will still be ok. A lightning cord is the cord for your Iphone or Ipad. Have no idea why it is called that. I imagine sermons based on Disney movies are unusual. Maybe he has no preaching skills or is lazy about actually doing work on a sermon, who knows. Sad he doesn't interact with the congregation though. Anymore, I can only do one thing at a time or I lose focus. Old age I guess.
Good Morning! It's another gloomy, foggy, wet morning in my neighborhood. I have nothing planned for the day except to decide on cookies to make for a meeting Monday morning, laundry, and more sorting. I will need to make a trip to the grocery store at some point.
"Gma," I never thought about this until Bob mentioned that our pastor's father was also a pastor. He probably had the same old style of non-involvement with the Sunday service. I wonder what this one does all day because he is never in the office when I am there on Monday morning, and the secretary shared he isn't there for long periods of time during the week. His day "off" is Friday; not much goes on on Saturday until the 5:30 service, same on Sunday after noon. I'm sure he is using sermons he has used before as he has shared that on Sunday with us. Hope your headache disappeared yesterday and you feel better today.
I need to get dressed and get my day going. Hope you enjoy a wonderful Wednesday!
Good morning to you all. I have some kind of bug or something and haven't felt well the last couple days. I was really sick this morning and at least don't feel like I am going to lose everything. I did take Tylenol, Pepto and ate crackers this morning. Hopefully, as the day wears on I will feel like my old self.
My baby gift has been washed and blocked and is dry so I can now wrap it and as soon as I can get a card, get it mailed. Unfortunately, as of yesterday my sister is back in the hospital and I don't know what the update is on her. It is going to be tough for my niece to have this bbq shower if my sister is in and out of the hospital and she is trying to balance everything. I think Medicare keeps booting my sister out of the hospital before she is completely well and she just gets sick again.
I finally got the right sized handbag to fit my wallet for the trip. It has lots of pockets too. It is orange, but it is a pretty orange and like I said it is like cowhide type leather not suede or regular leather.
Jean: Hope your cookies went over well. I am going to make a batch of chocolate chip cookies before we go to Florida so Jack has something to munch on in the car and at the hotel. I am trying a new recipe and am hoping they turn out tasting good. It has corn starch in it and never seen that in a recipe. I like crisp outside and chewy cookies. Jack likes crunchy ones so I usually bake his longer.
Good Evening! It's been a "ho hum" kind of day here, although sunny and windy all day. I went to get my nails done and then went back to the health food store to look at the book from last night's workshop on essential oils. I did not realize that the oils had such a history. It seems like there is one, or a combination, for whatever ache, pain, or disease one might have, plus a multitude of other uses. This afternoon I sorted through more catalogs and magazines. It seems like the Christmas influx of catalogs is starting early even though they aren't really full of much Christmas items yet.
"Gma," I sure hope you are feeling better by now. I do know that Medicare has some time limits on different things plus the patient must show improvement if in therapy of some sort. Hopefully your sister will be back home soon. Bob keeps saying the government should stay out of health care. I'm not making cookies until the weekend, for Monday. Bob is going to Canada fishing, with some other guys, so will send leftovers with him. I've never seen a cookie recipe using corn starch either.
I have some dishes to hand wash so had better get to them before I am out of the mood. Bob is playing golf tomorrow so I will make a trip to the grocery store. I made the mistake of going this afternoon; the parking lot was pretty full and people going in were all wearing yellow rubber boots. That told me one of the packing plant shifts just let out. I drove through the lot and came home! What possessed me to go in the afternoon I don't know. I never do that!
Evening time and I have been remiss in checking our thread.
We've been busy doing some cleaning and such. I'm trying to get things organized to pack in a few weeks. We have things like mail stop, oil change and charging up my scooter battery besides getting everything I want to take in a place to pack. Jack teases me about stressing about it. He says you have lists for your lists you won't forget anything.
We watched the baseball game and are watching "Red 2" right now. I imagine Jack will go up to bed when it's over. He's been staying up late this weekend.
Jean: I agree with Bob. Our healthcare is a total mess now. Don't forget the eclipse. Don't know how much darkness you will get. We are supposed to get quite a bit but not full.
Good Evening! It's been a nice day weatherwise, sunny, no wind, and warmer/more humid as the day went on. Went to early church because of the "special" music. One of the guys Bob sings with also sings with his three brothers accompanied by their sister. They are very good and have made at least one CD. We went out for breakfast afterwards then home to laundry and picking up some of the piles cluttering space, two more boxes for the SOS store!
"Gma," I am convinced the older I get the longer it takes me to get anything done! I seem to spin my wheels a lot, and get sidetracked along the way! Not a very good excuse but it is what it is. I just talked to a gal who will ride with me to the meeting tomorrow. Another gal in the group rented a motel room somewhere in Nebraska, to watch the eclipse, for $500 a night! They have a motor home and found a campground for $35 a night. Talk about ripping people off big time. I was going to bake bars to go along with the cookies for tomorrow and decided not to after it sounds like we might have ten people there if we're lucky. I made oatmeal/raisin and peanut butter cookies. Both recipes make a lot so will have more than enough. I don't think we will have total darkness but the tv newsmen have been warning about looking at the sun without the right kind of glasses and how it is going to affect the animals. Bob says Ernie won't know the difference because he sleeps a lot anyhow.
The dishwasher is done so will unload that and call it done for the day. Our state fair talent finalists are on tv tonight. Many years ago Beth's group danced on the same stage. Enjoy the rest of the evening!
Good morning to you all. Boy I am getting lax about posting everyday. I guess our group has gotten so small I have nothing much to post day today and my life is kind of boring anyhow.
I sat and paid bills this morning and am going to do some downstairs housework this morning. Jack forgot to unlock the gate for deliveries so I had to trudge out there this morning. Boy is it humid out.
I have the sweater halfway done already but now that I have the neckline in completely, I need to quit working on it as I want to take knitting on the ship. Besides finishing up the blanket for my bff, it is all I have on the knitting front at the moment even though I have a couple projects not started I bought kits for. Looks like the sweater will turn out cute and easy peasy. I did have trouble with the neck as I had never cast on a neck before. Every sweater I have ever made has been in pieces and sewn together. I couldn't find a left hand video but eventually found a right hand one where she was making a handle for a shopping bag. I didn't watch the video, but listened and she said the first sentence and I figured out what I was having problems with and whizzed right through it then.
Jean: My cookies will have milk chocolate chips and semi sweets in them. I am anxious to try this recipe and see how it comes out. Like I said it uses corn starch, but it also melts the butter, requires you to use parchment paper and chill the dough first. I broke down and ordered one of those ice cream scoops they use for cookies. I imagine I will make them on the Wednesday before we leave as Thursday I have a waxing appointment, Friday a hair appointment and the weekend is packed full of stuff to do before we leave that Monday. I got a giggle out of Bob's comment about the cat. The darn thing caused huge lightening strikes here and the power went kaboom. I came back on fairly quickly and there were 2-3 thunder claps, (big ones) and that was all then soon it started to get lighter and lighter. Here is got dark like you would if you were having a big storm, but not overnight type dark. Glad it is over and done with.
Everyone have a great day today. Off to start my work I guess.
Good Afternoon! It's a sunny breezy day in my neighborhood today. I had an eye appointment for a second opinion yesterday, and had to go back this morning for a scan to check the different layers of my eyes to be sure they are healthy. Next appointment is with the ophthalmologist in September. The downside being I have to go without my contacts for four weeks before that exam. I hate my Coke bottle bottom glasses but hopefully they will be history eventually. I stopped at WM on my way home and now have laundry in the washer and dryer. It rained for two days and was so dark and gloomy here. We didn't have total darkness for the eclipse, sort of like evening when the sun has gone down but it is still light. Bob went with a friend to pick up a tractor in Wisconsin. The guy needs a hip replacement and it bothers him to drive a clutch for very long. He drives a semi during harvest so will have the surgery after that is done. Bob couldn't figure out why he didn't have it done this spring or summer because his daughter-in-law does all the rest of the farming. Must be a "man" thing.
"Gma," I have a Pampered Chef cookie scoop; actually I have three different sizes. I will be curious as to how you like yours. I find that the dough builds up and I have to scrape it periodically. I thought I would save time and use a jelly roll pan as well as the cookie sheets. When I went to turn it, the pot holder slipped and I burned the side of a finger. The blister is/was big and I finally popped it the next day. I put essential oil on it and that took the pain away but it still is sensitive to hot water or if I pick up something heavy. Dumb on my part! I really have to be in the mood to bake cookies, and that doesn't happen very often. I plan to make a pan of brownies to send with Bob when he goes fishing with the guys.
The dryer is buzzing so time to change loads and then vacuum the dust bunnies floating around. Hope you enjoy the rest of your day!
Good morning to you all. Boy the humidity is certainly staying with us. Jack took the trash to the corner of the garage for pickup today and said it was very sticky at 5 AM. Guess that's what you get when you live in the south.
I worked on a bunch of stuff yesterday that took the majority of the day so never did get any housework done. Will give it a go this morning. I had been putting off the other stuff and it needed to be taken care of.
Jack wanted KFC last night so he stopped on the way home. I find the skin very salty so always take it off. He got home and we made ourselves a plate and they had shorted us 3 pieces. We live too far away to go back and had already fixed plates. I complained and it did absolutely no good at all. I told Jack no more KFC from that place we go back to Popeyes if we want chicken. They want $15 a hour yet work like 50 cents.
Jean: We shall see about the cookie scoop. I just wanted uniform cookies. Maybe doing a light pam butter spray would help. We shall see. Hope the guys don't run into bad weather. I don't know how a guy with a bad hip drives a semi for heaven's sake. Standard transmissions give my knee fits. We have paddles on our MKS, but I am not a Nascar driver so don't have any intention of ever using them. Jack tends to be a cake guy. Actually a frosting guy. I could just make him frosting and leave off the cake. He is an ice cream lover though. I have a slight dairy intolerance so I don't eat ice cream very often. I'd rather have a piece of pie. Now pie I can eat all the time. They have those tiny desserts on the ship. Anywhere but the US they use a lot less sugar in desserts I noticed. One thing I love is this elderberry mousse they have in the dining room. It comes out with two other one bite desserts, but the mousse is wonderful. I imagine I could be an elderberry wine drunk if I was given it and I hate wine.
