  • Good Morning! It's a cool cloudy morning here today. Bob went up to the cabin to get the water heater going and make sure the dock is in. It's too wet to mow but he can get lawn chairs, picnic table, and grill out of the shed then check the dock and boat hoist. Even though I slept good last night, it was late when we got home and I still feel draggy this morning. I need to make a bank stop for graduation money and run a couple other errands. I need to get back to clearing out bedrooms. I don't think I was too smart as I started a little bit in each room and now have a mess in each. Maybe I should have stuck to one room but have stuff in each that needs to go to other rooms. Disorganized, I know!

"Gma," hope you get your sewing finished today. Any other projects that interest you? Bob did get a new driver's license for $10 and has his favorite credit card from Cabella's on the way. I need to go to the grocery store and get a new gas card for the cents off program, he uses that for his pickup. Our area has been hit with the dog flu as well as the bird flu. Several turkey farms close to us have been shut down and the birds euthanized. The birds are left in a pile to rot. Ugh! Then the remains removed and the buildings cleaned and sanitized. Wonder what the price of a Thanksgiving turkey will be this year.

I need to get going on my rounds. Hope you all enjoy your Wednesday!

    GOOD AFTERNOON IN MAY MAGNOLIAS
    ☺♫

It is a beautiful day here in the♥-Land and I got my computer back. I had them put the solid state thing in it and it is fast now. Things load “right now.” Those teckies sure do know their stuff and do a great job on our computers. Will’s new computer even will play 3D movies.

We are taking out the two TV’s that are in the MH. In the hole in the front room he is fixing it up to where I can store what few cookbooks I am keeping. We are taking the rest of those books to the library so they can sell them and make a little money for their operations.

I have gotten a lot of sorting and packing done while I didn’t have a computer. I have been sorting the items that we need to put in the MH for our couple weeks in Texas in June and things we can put in our room at the ranch and what we intend to sell or give away. Decisions have to be made of what I will no longer have or what I will keep. It is quite a process. Things that can go in the MH cupboards are put in cardboard boxes and the things that go in our room down in Texas will be in plastic container boxes.

JEAN I sure hope all is well for your fun at the lake this year. It is quite a process to get it all opened up and ready it seems.

DONNA FAYE It is a good feeling to get the bills paid isn't it. I am so pleased that we don't owe any now for we are free of all them.

Always remember ~ Never, never, never give up
  • Good morning to you all. Gonna be hot today, almost 90 and sunny. I imagine our humidity is jumping up too.

I got a text from Thomas yesterday and he has a concert tonight so we will be going to that. The seats are so narrow they kill my legs so I am taking a folding chair we bought for a beach vacation several years back and going to set it up on the outside aisle and sit in it. His parents are in Bermuda so it is just us and his other grandmother and his aunt if she can come. His grandfather doesn't leave the house much anymore as it is too hard for him with his cancer. We will try and stay for it all, but if it gets too late we will have to leave.

Maggie: Won't be long and you will be on your way for your little vacation. Sounds like you are getting all organized in the MH.

Jean: There is a huge outbreak of dog flu all over. I know that way back when Fortune was still alive that back then our vet insisted on a Flu vaccine even though it wasn't something required by law. He said back then that it was going to get bad and it has. That is rather disgusting about the birds though. We are trying a meat market on Saturday so I hope we like it and the expense is not too drastic. Jack fixed a couple strip steaks a couple nights ago and at least 1/3 of it was inedible gristle. Why pay the price even if it is cheaper if you can't eat the meat? Hopefully we can get a better quality of meat than the government contracts allow. Bet Bob would like the new Bass Pro Shops here. They just opened the end of last week in the old Pyramid. I hear it is absolutely huge as it even has a hotel and restaurant in it.

You gals have a great day.
  • Good Afternoon! It's another cloudy rainy day in my neighborhood. I had my nails done the first thing this morning. It must be getting close to sandal weather as all of the pedi chairs were full, even an older man was there. Stopped at the Hallmark store for cards, the post office to mail one, and the library to drop off books that were due today. I need to get my gas card from Bob, who ate lunch with his farmer friend, and go pick up salad ingredients for tomorrow when we go to celebrate my "mom's" birthday.

Maggie, it sounds like you are getting ready to roll in the motorhome!

"Gma," hope you enjoy the concert tonight. Good luck at the meat market!

I need to get going! Have a great Thursday!
  • Good morning to you all. We have a big storm rolling in this morning it looks like. I think it must be what Jean got. It is very humid and the sky is pretty dark this morning.

On Jack's way to work yesterday morning he passed a black man on the interstate standing next to one of those concrete things used to reroute traffic. Jack said the guy had his hands up and his shirt pulled over his head. When Jack got to work, the mechanic who lives out our way and is usually right behind Jack by a couple minutes said traffic was stopped and the man was lying next to the concrete and the concrete was covered in blood. The guy walked out into traffic and tried to commit suicide! I thank God he didn't walk in front of Jack's car. That would be something hard to ever get over.

I never did get the pants hemmed. I will tackle them next week I guess. We have a lot of running around tomorrow and Sunday as it is commissary day. We have to go to the meat market, Walmart and the post office before it closes tomorrow. I buy caffeine free Coke Zero and have a heck of a time finding it. Jack said Krogers didn't have any the other day so we will check Walmart. I buy several cases when I can get it. The commissary doesn't carry it at all. I also have to get some more lancets as they have never come in to Express Scripts and I am tired of waiting. I may just have them transfer it back to CVS at this point.

Jean: I love to hear Thomas play, but hate going to his concerts. They are so disorganized and it takes 15 minutes at least between each time of band or ensemble to set up the stage. Last night the idiot manning the lights kept turning them off and on and of course the conductors love to hear themselves talk so they get up and blab. On top of that, they have several conductors and someone misplaced the baton and so he wouldn't start without it. It was ridiculous. Thomas got to play a trumpet trio and he had some solo parts in it and we listened to the band he played in then we left. They still had multiple bands to play and a bunch of singers and I wasn't about to sit through all that. The chair worked well though. We sat back where they put wheelchairs. I texted Thomas he did a great job and he texted back thanks. I hate not getting to talk to him afterwards but the thing drags on forever. Do you prefer reading books over ones on your Ipad? They have closed several branches here so nothing is convenient to me besides I do like reading them on my Ipad as I can take it anywhere and read in the dark.

    Everyone have a great weekend.
  • Finally Friendly Friday

    GOOD AFTERNOON IN MAY MAGNOLIAS
    ☺♫

It is a lovely day today In the ♥-Land. We have gotten some well received rain these last few days which sure make the crops around here smile.

Will has gone to the hospital to get that Pick Line removed they had inserted in him to give him the chemo. He has to go in for check-ups each 3 months for a couple more times for the study they are doing. If by chance he will need more chemo they will just have to insert a new pick line but everyone is optimistic that he will remain cancer free. They are finally convinced that spot on his lung is bruising from an old rodeo injury he got many years back. It showed up in x-rays he had when he had his gall bladder removed years back and hasn’t changed since then so they will leave it alone.

I think I will tackle my clothes closet today and decide on which clothes to keep and which to toss. My few pairs of shoes are in those neat plastic shoe boxes and I am going to make a decision on which to keep. The ones I rarely wear will not be kept for sure. I mainly always wear my black pair of SAS shoes which work the best with my brace. I have a pair of sandals that it works with also and a pair of sneakers. The rest will be tossed. I wear my sandals when I don’t have to do much walking. My SAS are great for walking.

DONNA FAYE At least you were able to hear your grandson play. It’s sad that they aren’t better organized there. Sounds like they need a new “stage manager..”

JEAN It is a real chore to "downsize" and make decisions of what is necessary to keep or sell or give away. Going from a 4 bedroom house to a MH is not an easy task. I still have the rest of this month and next month to get it all done but it sure makes it hard to cook anything if I have "stuff" packed. It is a good thing we will have that "room" where we will be parked some and don't have to get rid of all the can goods and such that we would be taking in the MH. I am toying with the idea of keeping my upright Health O Meter upright scale with the balance beam because it can be set up in that room. I have a small step on one that is accurate that I can have in the MH. Like I said there are many decisions on what to keep. We have to weigh everything we are putting in the MH so as not to overload it. When we get back from our jaunt to Texas we are going to take out the couch and put in my small kitchen wooden table and a couple of chairs which will make a nice working area. That way we can have the table in the kitchen as our work surface for cooking and use the living room one for our laptops and such. We don't need that heavy couch that makes into a bed but do need a free standing table.

Always remember ~ Have a great day MAGNOLIAS and I will type at y'all later.
  • Good morning all. we are supposed to get rain pretty much all day today. We will be heading out in a few hours to get all our errands done and then tomorrow is commissary day. Since the Pentagon has upped base security, I would make bets we can't go through the back gate which is more convenient, but will have to trapse into town and go around to the front gate. It is very doubtful the base his is in any danger. They have mainly records keeping now for pay and such.

Maggie: Sounds like you still have a lot of work ahead of you to get it all ready and to clean out the house things and such. I have boxes all over the downstairs and the dining room is a disaster, but sooner or later it will be beautiful again with all new stuff and a huge pantry where I can get at everything.

    Everyone have a great Saturday.
  • Good Afternoon and Happy Mother's Day, whether you have human or furry children! It's a misting/raining, foggy, damp, and clammy feeling day in my corner of the world today. Bob is doing cow, cat, and dog chores for his farmer friend again, but they should be home tonight. We went to the farm store to look at flowers and it started to rain when we got out of the pickup. Most of the flowers are outside so promptly gave that idea up and went inside to buy bird, squirrel, rabbit, and duck food. We spent yesterday with Amanda's extended family to celebrate her 40th birthday at a pizza place. There is an arcade room so as long as the quarters held out the kids were happy. Stopped by Beth's on the way home; I was tired and ready for bed long before it was time to go to bed. This week is the last of the soccer games, I think/hope. We enjoy going but are getting tired of so much time on the road to go. Ian has started baseball practice but no game schedule yet. He won't be playing in the Sioux Falls league this year so we will be traveling to small towns that his school plays against.

"Gma," what an awful thing to happen/witness on the interstate and to think about all day long at work. Maddy's band concert was only a half hour and we made it to the soccer game just before it started. Kolby's game was first so Will had taken him and then they saved us a spot for Maddy's game. Zowie's concert was 45 minutes but included the 4th graders; it was singing and playing the recorders. I would just as soon listen to singing. I don't read books on my iPad, I like having the book to hold I guess. There was a post on FB about increased military base security. I am so naive that I didn't know Isis had such momentum over here already. Another FB post comment was "preparing for WWIII." That is a scary thought!

Maggie, I hate sorting clothes because I always think if it fits I might want to wear it some day. I must admit some of the clothes I had for school are definitely out of style now. You are so organized you will have everything ready when it is time for you and Will to leave on your next adventure. If you get rid of the couch what kind of chairs will you have to sit in and relax?

I have clothes in the washer and dryer so need to do some folding and get the next load going. Hope you all enjoy the rest of your day!
  • Good Afternoon! It's cold, cloudy, windy, and an all around crappy day in my corner of the world today. I cranked the furnace up some more and I'm still cold. My day was going good until I was going to leave for church and my car wouldn't start. Bob was the last one to drive it and he is famous for leaving the key in the ignition so it dings nonstop while he is getting water bottles, wrappers, etc., out to throw away. Anyhow, the key wouldn't turn, the steering wheel wouldn't budge, and neither would the gear shift. Luckily he was still home so he gave me a ride to church. He called the garage and the mechanic said it was electrical and to put the charger on it to get it started. No luck, so he used the pickup to jump start it. Then the engine light came on and stayed on. He drove it to the garage and now they have it on their computer to see if they can figure out what is going on. I'm beginning to think it should have been painted yellow as in lemon! We stopped at the hospital on our way home and I picked up the gift shop money. We had a one day sale last week and the total cash was $56.38 long! When I was trying to figure out all the payroll deduction amounts, some of those didn't match with the employee signature sheet. After readding, refiguring, and rechecking several times, an employee had written a check instead of using the payroll deduction which the volunteer had entered on the payroll sheet. I probably might have caught that sooner if I had processed the pile of checks first. Anyhow, my car still isn't home and Bob just left to make my deposit for me. I was hoping to go buy flowers this afternoon! We have a get together with Bob's singing group tonight after they practice.

I need to put my gift shop books away and clear off the counter. Hope you all enjoy the rest of your day!
  • Good morning to you all. I realized I never even got in here yesterday. We had rain yesterday and it was a bit cooler, but it is supposed to warm back up and stay up for the rest of the week with rain on and off.

I cleaned the downstairs but need to do the kitchen counters and dust today then either today or tomorrow with clean bathrooms upstairs again. How does a house get dirty with just two people in it?

We went to that meat market, walked in and looked around and promptly walked back out again. Most of their stuff was prepackaged and what they did have in the case was pretty puny. We drove to Fresh Market and bought beautiful looking meats there. It is pricy, but the stuff is really good. We bought several other things, checked out and came home. On Sunday we went to the commissary and I am sure glad I bought a bunch of stuff at Walmart because there were empty spots all over the place. I will continue to go out there as long as they are open mainly because we don't have to pay sales tax and ours is 10%, but sheesh waste of time if they don't have what you want or need.

I promised Jack chili dogs for dinner so that is what he is getting. I will eat one hot dog and make myself veggies and fruit to go with it. I am not a chilidog gal just plain ole mustard and a bit of onion and relish for me.

My arthritis in my hands has been really bad lately as have my knees. I don't know if it is the rain or what, but my joints are swollen and they are awfully sore. I am struggling to type today having to go slow and I keep making mistakes. I can't knit nor sew so I have to just sit and watch tv or read or something in my down time.

Jean: Boy you sure have had a lot of trouble with your car. It is still under warranty isn't it? Seems like the electrical in the car is all goofed up as I remember awhile back the electrical acting up. Cars are so computerized and such nowadays that one thing out of whack and you can't drive the darn thing. Hope they can get it back to you soon. It was as I expected going out to the base. They have the back gate closed and barricaded. They have barricades set up at the gates anyway and have these steel walls that can come up out of the ground if someone tries to run through. It is definitely different than it used to be, but the world isn't safe even at home anymore. What kind of flowers are you going to plant? I am seriously thinking of having a landscape place just come in and clean up the deck area and trim bushes and such. I want to just tear the deck out and would like to put pavers down, but that is way down the list. We have so much to do inside first.

    Everyone have a good day.
  • Good Afternoon! The sun is shining, finally, but it's a cool day in my neighborhood -- it was 36 degrees when I came downstairs this morning. We were invited to a hospital foundation meeting this morning. It was just a round table discussion about pros and cons pertaining to the hospital. There were six of us, Bob being the only spouse who attended, and we all knew each other. Found out there are a couple three doctors who will be retiring in the next year or two, and young doctors still in their residency training have committed to coming here. Must say I am surprised considering the logistics of this town. All are from small communities similar to here, but have been working in much larger city hospitals. After lunch we went to the greenhouse and were shocked at the price of flowers this year! Instead of buying flowers for the seven pots in front of the house we picked out two for the deck. Guess we will check out a couple other places and hope their prices are lower. Bob is on the scholarship committee at church and they are interviewing tonight, starting at five.

"Gma," I was surprised that the meat market didn't have better meat. Is Fresh Market like a regular grocery store? The computer said that everything was working properly on the car. So far it has started on command, and behaved itself. I would like to put shrubs in front of the house again, but I sure don't want to attract snakes either. Right now there is a rock border where Bob sits the flower pots. I think the humid weather does affect arthritis, unfortunately. Hope your swollen joints feel better soon.

I need to get something ready to grill later, hope it's not too late. Enjoy the rest of your day!
  • Good morning to you. It is nice and comfortable at the moment and the temps will get up to low 80.

I finished up the downstairs and will tackle upstairs tomorrow. I am going to wait until Tuesday and get my nails done. I like the girl that works early on Tuesdays.

I finished up house chores and did a load of laundry so now I can sit and watch Grey's Anatomy for a couple hours. I got hooked on the reruns of this show awhile back.

Jean: I imagine it is tough to entice doctors to small town hospitals. So many of them want the opportunities big city hospitals offer. Hopefully you can find the perfect flowers to put out front. We have problems keeping our white stones white. I guess I should try spray bleach and water or something like that. Leaves that fall on them stain them pretty badly in the fall. We are going to cook a couple steaks we bought for dinner. Well, Fresh Market does have a great produce area and nice dairy, a deli and bakery and fresh butcher cases, it has only a small selection of groceries and they are very upscale stuff. If you want chips, they are fancy named chips not lays or dorritos or such. They have every spice you can think of though. I can spend a lot there. They had the most beautiful pink peonies over the weekend for Mother's Day.

Everyone have a great afternoon. I am off to watch my program.
  • Good Evening! The sun shined, and the wind blew 30+ mph today. Tomorrow is supposed to be rainy again. I had lunch bunch this noon and had planned to run some errands afterwards. It was so windy I stopped at the grocery store for popcorn and ended up buying geraniums for $2 cheaper than the greenhouse, then came home. I've been doing laundry while Bob mows hoping to beat the rain. He and Beth are going to the cabin tomorrow to officially get it ready (cleaned) for the summer. Everyone knows to wipe out any dishes they use before putting food in/on them. If we can, we use paper and plastic so no one has to do dishes. I haven't decided if I'm going or not. I have plenty I could clean right here!

"Gma," how big are your white stones? I wonder if the bleach and mold spray for basements or bathrooms would clean them. The fresh fruit/vegetable stores and meat markets are what I miss most after leaving Ohio. The fish and seafood store not at all; I still remember that smell! I am sad tonight. My coffee date/lunch bunch friend told us that her daughter-in-law has filed for divorce. They met at Jason and Amanda's wedding, getting married 15 years ago this summer. Two children, 11 year old boy and 9 year old girl, plus a dog will be affected. They just built a new house a couple years ago and will have to sell it.

I just heard the mower shut off so that must mean it is time for supper. Enjoy your evening!
  • Good morning to everyone. It is cloudy and a chance of rain off and on today so who knows. It is nice and cool this morning so no need for the ac to be on.

I am going to fix myself some breakfast after I get done here then head upstairs and tackle the bathrooms. It doesn't take long as they aren't very big. I usually spray the tile with Scrubbing Bubbles and the tub and mat with Tilex as there is no window and Jack won't use the fan so I make sure we have no mildew buildup. Then I go and clean the other bathroom area and come back to the main bathroom and finish it up. There is carpeting in the sink area in both bathrooms and not much tile in the tub/toilet area so I clean it by hand and not by mop. It is easier that way.

Jack bought me the prettiest ring. It should be here next week. It is called an interlocking heart. It is in rose gold and the stones in the heart are something called mordanite so they are a pink color. He is such an ole softy!

Jean: Glad you found some less expensive flowers. Don't you wonder why people cannot work out their problems and be happy and stay together anymore? I mean I figure if Jack and I can be married as long as we have, go through the financial hardships for decades that we did, live through 20 years of Navy life being separated several times, have Jack's jobs go up and down for about 15 years, and several other issues and come out of it ok and happy than other people should be able to work things out. Marriage when you are younger is hard work, but it is worth it to put the time and effort into it. I see these celebrities that break up and then say they are still good friends, then why the heck didn't you stay together if you got along so well? Seems to be a lot of cheating anymore, maybe because no one keeps their pants on until they get married. It kind of disgusts me. Good luck getting the cabin ship shape. Sure seems like it is cooler longer into late spring this year.

Everyone have a good day today. I am off to fix me some breakfast.

  • Good Afternoon! . . . the rain and wind continue! We've had 3/4" just this morning so I'm waiting for it to start coming in the basement. There's nothing to do about it except a major construction project to put in new tile and then no real guarantee. I made a WM run this morning. At the last minute picked out white geraniums to plant along with the hot pink ones I bought at the grocery store. The WM ones aren't as big so I hope with fertilizer and TLC they will catch up. Cleared off the kitchen counters and sorted through the pile of magazines; some for the hospital, some outdated ones for the cabin, and some to pitch. I need to clean bathrooms and vacuum. Sonny and Ernie had a little discussion while I was gone this morning. The evidence is several pieces of fur floating around.

"Gma," your ring is very pretty! My opinion on marriage, and the changing times, is that when we got married it was forever and you worked through the problems, like you said. Now it is an instant satisfaction, "right now" mindset, and if there are problems just chuck it and move on. Both of our kids lived together before they got married, not that we approved. Jason and Amanda asked for her parents and our permission plus she had a ring and they had set the wedding date for a year later. Jason was in school and Amanda had graduated, was working and also going to massage therapy school, so they never got to see each other. Beth and Will had Maddy first but waited several years to get married. The divorcing couple have been seeing a marriage counselor and he/she asked if the guy thought his wife might be a closet lesbian. The ironic twist to that is that she and another gal came to Jason and Amanda's wedding together. Amanda had been on the college swim team with them so we thought nothing of it. Afterwards someone asked us if they were a couple. The other gal is also married and lives in Colorado now.

I need to get busy! Enjoy the rest of a terrific Thursday!
