Can I join in?

Hello Everyone,

Well I've spent the last couple days lurking about on this site, looking for a thread that I would like to be a part of. As I read through the posts on this tread, I made up my mind. I would like to join, if you don't mind??

My name is Jodie, I'm 30 yrs old, married (almost 2 yrs) and have 2 cats, Izzy and Megan. Weight has been an issue and a stuggle all my life. I've had success with Weight Watchers. But I've been unsuccessful staying OP for any length of time. I'm determined to change this. I'm tired of being unhappy and frusterated. And by reading the support and motivation in this thread. I think I've found something really good.

I hope that you have a great Sunday.

Jodie
;)

thinlizzie 08-24-2003 04:58 PM

A big WELCOME to Jodie~~~ so nice to meet you and we want you to feel right at home here! It's definitely nice to have a fresh voice amongst us:)
I too was able to lose most of my weight with the WW program. But maintainance is a whole 'nother world!:?: Not that easy. I've slipped back up to 140 # and i'd like to be between 125 and 128 somewhere, wherever i can get to actually! Last time it pretty much seemed to want to stick at 128. Tho i had a lower WW goal. I really just want to take good care of my body and move more and eat MOSTLY healthy foods. Of course we all have some treats that are more irresistable than others:lol: Just try to make up for them by exercising or cutting back on calories elsewhere.
Yes, this thread is very good for reminding each other of what is important. No matter how we get the weight off we support each other. And the journey is just as important as the goal. We should remember to enjoy each day. I think one of my favorite lines is "Motivation = Enjoyment" If we don't make it fun we certainly won't get anywhere, right??
They say having two cats is better than one, so they can amuse each other when you aren't home. How long have they been together? and how old are they? We love our pets on here. I had my dog for 14 yrs, she was almost like a human in the household, as we have no children.

1DAY~~~ sorry to hear you were having a reaction to the Celebrex. What new pill did the doc say to try now? And yes, some of those drugs are like that where you don't realise they were doing something till you stop taking them. Sending  's for some healing to happen soon!

I know those mosquito bites make me more worried than previous, with all that West Nile in the news. But up here there is just no getting away from them unless you stay indoors all the time. They weren't bad when it was EXTREMELY hot and humid, so maybe i liked that better after all :?: Thanks for your concern!

Well, we've been running all morning and now i better do something like CLEANING? in the kitchen. I let the dishes go and sometimes then they seem to have multiplied. Talk to you all soon~~ hope you all are enjoying your weekend. :grouphug: thinlizzie

Catlover777 08-24-2003 05:09 PM

1day--too bad about the Celebrex. You might try the Tylenol--don't wait until it hurts, just use it for a week or so, and it may work pretty well.

For those concerned--yes, DS had walked the dogs.

Meanwhile, I have been doing very badly--gained back that loss and more, and felt really out of control with my eating. But pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again.

Avon has a little electronic thing for entering your calories. I know some of us have done that on a PDA, but this is only $14.95, and maybe it would give me a boost. The book I use to journall is about $13, and it lasts three months, so it wouldn't be extravagant. What experience have you all had?

I agree--writing it all down just seems a real downer right now.

When DH had the potassium test the KU Med, they did it while he was there. But he got this one on Thur. first thing, and hasn't heard anything. Just heard of a friend's daughter that they had to put in the hospital to get her potassium up . . .

A big welcome to Jodie!! Some new blood is probably what we all need. This is a great group, and generally upbeat, tho some of us are in a bit of a slump right now. But you'll find us very supportive.

Best to all--
Catlover

Good Afternoon Ladies,

Well you guessed it--it is still way too hot here in Phoenix. However I believe we are almost 2/3's of the way through summer.

I am still doing Adkins because at this point I, too, really hate to journal even though I know that gets the best results.

A BIG WELCOME TO YOU, JODIE, I totally agree with Thin--she is truly a blessing to our group. I am one of the lucky ones because perhaps next year when she comes back to Phoenix we will finally get to meet in person. As stated above I, too, just hate journaling. It took me 1-1/2 years to lose 54 lbs. I reached goal last October and until my vacation in June, I was able to weigh in at goal each and every month. However, since that time I have been having quite a bit of a problem. It seems the harder I try for some reason it just isn't working. That is why I opted to do the induction program from Akins. If I can only get rid of 5 lbs. then I feel I can get back on program. WW is coming out in Sept. with a new twist to their points program. It seems every time they start something new, I get invigorated to do it again. Sure hope it works this time.

Okay ladies let's start over again and get the job done once and for all!

Take care,
Anita

Good morning--

Decided to check in and get inspired.

Nita--did you know that one day last week Lawrence was the hottest place in the nation?

Nearby Johnson County has instituted water controls.

EVeryone have a good OP day.

thinlizzie 08-25-2003 10:56 AM

Hi Chicks~~~

CAT~~yes, it really does seem to be a hot year all over the U.s.
Do take care.
Weekend eating was not the greatest, as we ate out yesterday. But then we both just had salad for our dinner, so i think it evened out. We had planned to go see a movie and just eat the plain popcorn instead of lunch...but it was Spy Kids (the newest is that #3??) anyway, they were not showing it as they had run out of the 3d glasses! What a bummer when that is why we went into the city in the first place.

Hope you get a good day today, Cat and to all the rest of the gang.

~~JODIE~~how are you doing today? Hope you check in.
Helps to use this as your daily routine.

~~NITA~~was getting to worry about you since you had not posted in awhile. I'm sure that heat every day is getting to everyone in that area of the southwest. I wonder how the people of Las Vegas are doing after that terrible flooding. We had only a little bit on our news here.
I am looking forward to being away from the winters of the U.P. again this year, and also looking forward to meeting you!
Tho' we still don't have any ideas on what we are towing behind the motorhome. DH wants the gold wing motorcycle down there this year as most every day is perfect in Feb and March for riding. I wonder how Jan is? As we did not arrive till Feb. last year.
Well, lots of book work still need doing. And i have a dental cleaning in the early aft. But i will check back in here this eve. Here's to a :strong: OP day all~~~
 :grouphug: thinlizzie

Nita 08-25-2003 12:14 PM

Good Morning Ladies,

Well, you guess it, the weather here is still hot! I really don't staying in the house but we have no choice. I did go bowling yesterday and tried to get on the treadmill this morning but even at 6:30 and having the garage doors open and fan going I was only able to stay on for 15 min.

Thin -- November, December, January thru beginning of April are perfect when it comes to the weather. So I am sure you two can go motorcycling in January. I can hardly wait for the cool weather. Besides our broken gas line the end of summer makes people not too nice to be around but I know I can get through it.

I am still not "perfect" in my eating, however, I do believe no one is ever perfect and that is okay. After all we are only human. The main thing we should be concerned is our health and every day you see articles in the newspaper and on TV where our society is getting more overweight every day. It is really sad that children have to suffer being too heavy issues because they, too, resort to food for comfort. I was one of those overweight kids and I can still remember how tough it was!

Well ladies today is another day and together we will make a difference in each other's lives. Just try and do your best!

Take care,
Anita

1day@atime 08-25-2003 01:55 PM

Hello Ladies,

A big welcome to Jodie. This is a great forum. Everyone is so supportive.

Nita - WTG for getting on the treadmill in this heat.

Thin - Sorry you weren't able to see the movie.

Cat - Hope you hear some good news on your DH tests. Sorry to hear that you are having a hard time. Maybe once you get things settled with your DH you can get back in the swing of things.

As for me my knee & toe still hurt. The sad thing is i'm really motivated to exercise. I thought about getting the pilates video the one that is advertised on tv. I thought maybe that is something I can do, since I can't stand on my fee to long. What do you all think? The pilates looks like it alot of stretching & leg work on the floor (my knee doesn't hurt when i'm sitting or laying down)..

we'll I need to run... Hope everyone is having a great day!

Good evening chicks _ just a very quick call. I have been very busy today with the carpark and I will be going for a walk down the street to the Lammas Fair later. My eating has not been good today as I was just snatching a bit of food here and there and the choices left a lot to be desired!

Jodie - Welcome to our group and maybe you will be the inspiration we need to get this fat really movin!

Gotta go now and do some things before I go walking.

You are valuable

You are valuable. Others may not treat you as such, but that in no way diminishes the fact that you are truly and undeniably valuable. You are valuable, and nothing that anyone else can do or say will ever take that value away. The value of your life is yours to hide from or to ignore if you choose, or to live with magnificent fulfillment.
Your thoughts and opinions are valuable. The more they are challenged, tested and refined, the more valuable they become. Your interests, passions and experiences are valuable. Even your disappointments and limitations have much positive value because of the learning and perspective they provide.

You are valuable, and it is your unique challenge in every moment to fulfill that value. Though it is much easier to pretend that you have no value, what is easiest is not what is best.

For ultimately, life is considerably more rich and more rewarding, more filled with joy and real meaning, when you live true to the value that is you. Know that you are indeed valuable, and let that value shine.

Catlover777 08-25-2003 11:15 PM

Well, fudge, DH has to take the potassium again. This made him feel so bad before.

Keep those angels coming.

Blonde_in_BC 08-26-2003 12:08 AM

A new beginning

Happy Monday Ladies,

Thank you all for your warm welcome. I'm glad to be here :^: Well today, I signed up with WW again. Just came back from the meeting. The new plan looks good. They seem to be adding more flexibility to the plan. With flex points and a simple/quick journalling. Something that I dread, but the new method seems "do-able" I also made it back to the gym today, after a two week vacation. My muscles will be hurting tomorrow.

It was a struggle returning to work today, after being on vacation. So much to catch up on. I wish I had a little fairy that would make all go away.

Mooz- How was the Lammas Fair? Sounds like fun.

Nita- I agree with you about the "perfect" image. I was a overweight child and it was tough. I wish that kids today didn't have to face that.

Thin- Bummer about the movie. My DH and I went and seen Finding Nemo. It was great, we both really enjoyed it.

1 Day- I hope the doctor can find you an alternative medication. Hang in there.

Have a successful Tuesday :flow2:

mooz49 08-26-2003 07:07 AM

Good Morning Chicks - just another quick call as today is the second day of the Auld Lammas Fair and I have to help out at the car park and with the linedancing demonstration. I hope to get some pictures today as I forgot to take the camera yesterday.:(
There were supposed to have been around 100,000 visitors to our wee town yesterday and that certainly filled it up. In some places there were so many people that the police had to divert them so that they were only going one way for fear of a crush.
We had over 250 cars in our carpark/field but we will not get so many today as the Tuesday is not so busy.

Jodie - you are sounding very positive which is half the battle. Good luck with WW.

Cat - sorry to hear that your DH has to take potassium especially if he feels bad when taking it.

Patty - I don't know a lot about pilates but it may be just what you need at the moment. It is terrible when you want to exercise but can't because your knee and toe still hurt.

Nita - I can so understand you not liking the heat as I hate being too hot also and out temps are nothing to what yours are!

Thin - it is hard to believe that you are talking about Arizona again as it seems like no time since you were there. Time seems to go by so quickly and that is why we need to all get our acts together and get fit and healthy once and for all.

To everyone else I hope you all get a chance to post soon.

You'll get through

When the challenge is in front of you, it looks big and difficult and complicated and forbidding. Yet when that same challenge is behind you, you wonder why you ever hesitated to take it on.
Are there challenges looming on your horizon, challenges that seem insurmountable? They are not nearly so difficult as they may at first appear. In fact, once you get past them they will hardly seem difficult at all. Because in the process of going through them, you'll learn, you'll improve, you'll grow, you'll become stronger.

In the process of meeting the challenges that are now in front of you, you'll take yourself to a higher level of performance. You'll take yourself to a higher level of wisdom, strength, and effectiveness.

Imagine yourself there now, already past the challenges, stronger and more experienced as a result. You will have achieved something of value and, perhaps more importantly, put yourself in a position to take on even greater, even more rewarding challenges.

So jump in right now and begin to work your way through the challenges that confront you. You know you'll get through them, to discover great new value on the other side.

Hi everyone --

I'm checking in...Can't stay on long as I have so much work to do. I haven't had much time to even lurk and I'm so far behind on your posts - I apologize.

Jodie -- Welcome! You'll find this is a wonderful group of ladies! And I'm very proud and honored to call them my friends!

DH's website is more or less finished. I'm not thrilled with my design or the limited graphics - but we wanted to get something up quickly. And I'm sure we'll be "tweaking" the text in the coming weeks. But for now, at least it's something. http://www.mycomputerbroke.com

DM and DF are still battling their cancers. DM may or may not continue with chemo. The doctors can't say if it will give her any longer to live, and between the weakness and sickness, her quality of life will not be as good as if she doesn't have chemo. DF still has his bad days and his slightly better days -- not too many "good" days. He's on a short break from chemo right now. Don't know what he plans to do -- whether he's going to continue with chemo or not. I think he wants to continue to try and fight to live as long as possible, but I think it's going to depend on what the doctor says when he sees him next.

My grandma is in a nursing home recuperating from her broken hip -- of course, she refuses to do physical therapy -- She is, as of now, planning on moving to New Jersey to stay with my aunt and cousin when and if she can get around well enough to get out of the nursing home. Of course being that she's 91 and her "dementia" is getting worse and worse, she changes her mind all the time -- so you just never know.

The reality just kind of hit me (again) this weekend that I may not be long before all I have of three of the most important people in my life are memories.

I think I've really been self-destructing. I've been so stressed and "out of it" that I left my purse in the shopping cart in the grocery store parking lot. Luckily an employee found it right away, and I got it back with everything - even the cash - still inside. Also at the dog park the other day, my mind was elsewhere (in California with my parents no doubt) and I stepped into a big hole that some dogs dug and twisted my foot under and sprained my ankle, hurt my knee and fell wrong on my arm and shoulder.

I've also been stuffing all the stress and emotional pain down with food -- pretty much anything fattening. My size 14s that were once loose are now so tight that after I put them on today I've beem worrying ever since that sometime today they're going to tear at the seams. I haven't weighed myself in ages....just too afraid. I also haven't been to a WW meeting in I don't know how long. :( :nono:

I've been doing counseling at the cancer support center, and that's been helping a bit, but I still feel like a wreck a lot of the time. I'm sure it'll get better eventually....Heck, maybe it's just PMS that's making this all seem worse.

As for my tight clothes...I'm not going to try and get back OP all at once...just going to set small goals and achieve them. Baby steps. This week starting today I'm going to drink 8 glasses of water a day.

Anyway, chicks, thanks so much for "listening" while I spilled my guts. Jodie, I apologize....Please don't get the wrong impression about me. I used to be so much more upbeat and positive and not such a sourpuss/downer.

I hope you all are doing okay today. Hugs and   to those who need them! You chicks mean the world to me!

Nita 08-26-2003 11:07 AM

Good Morning Ladies,

It's a great day to be up and at it so early in the morning. I managed only 15 min. on the treadmill because even at 6:00 a.m. the temperature was 84. Hopefully by tomorrow it will be below 80 at least in the a.m.

Michellez -- I checked out your website and I am impressed with how intriguing it is. Too bad you aren't here in Phoenix because I most definitely would get your $99 special. I believe most of us need this done at least once a year and by someone who knows what they are doing. I am sure this business is going to take off. As far as your weight is concerned I like your attitude of taking small baby steps. I, too, am still struggling to get back to my goal weight for WW. As Jodie pointed out WW is coming out with a new program that offers some flexibility and it sounds like journaling might be easier. Therefore, I have definitely made a commitment to weigh in next Thursday to find out all about it. The fact that you know what to do is a step in the right direction. Besides it seems that most of us are having the same problem as you--that is getting focused. I KNOW WHEN THE TIME IS RIGHT YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL AGAIN!

Jodie -- Last evening my DH called my attention to the Discovery Health channel. They did a segment on young children already becoming obese at the ages of 6, etc. Most of them simply had a lack of exercise and others just used food like we adults do for comfort, even though they weren't aware of it. They then did a comparison of two people--a lady who did by the by-pass surgery and a man who did the Duke University Program. I liked the Duke program because it started out with the basics--they took the people to the grocery store and taught them how to read labels and how to stock their kitchen with fruits and veggies. I can't remember the man's name but it seemed he lived with a son only and made his own meals. Like all of us he was tempted to go off his program but then having been so successful--having lost 80 lbs. already, his mind overruled his emotions. It showed him at a men's department store buying a new belt--from a size 52 inch to a 42 inch. When he looked into the mirror he was so pleased with his results. The lady did lose her weight also but I am not sure she did it in a healthy manner. Sometimes those operations are not successful--evidently hers was.

One thing I forgot to mention is that Duke University has scientists really working on finding out why some people do have a predisposition to being overweight while others are simply thin. They believe it may have something to do with genes but at this time they are not really sure and stated it is going to be a long time in finding out just what is going on.

I am looking forward to Dr. Phil's new program starting in Sept. He is going to have a weight-loss program and he is also coming out with a new book as well regarding the same issue.

Well I hope I haven't taken up too much of your time but I thought you might find some of these issues interesting and again realize that being overweight is a world-wide problem that is getting bigger and bigger every day.

Take care,
Anita

1day@atime 08-26-2003 01:38 PM

Good Afternoon Ladies,

Nita - I haven't heard about Dr. Phil's weight loss program. Is there anything on his site? When do the temperatures get a little cooler there?

Mitchellez - Glad to hear from you. I know you have been stressing so much lately. You have been in my prayers. I'm glad you are getting some counseling at the center. I know there is not much we can say. Anytime you need to vent to us, please so do... we're here for you.

Mooz - sounds like you all are having fun there. Hope you all made some money.

Jodie - So Ww has come out with the new program. I know there has been lots of talk. I'm planning on rejoining, but not until I can exercise.

Cat, Hal, Thin, Chacha, Mej - Hope you all are having a great day!
