Mornin' Chicks~~ finally checking in. The motorcycle ride was very nice. One highway we went on in Wisconsin had a little landing strip right adjacent to the road and it just so happened that a small plane was about to land right when we were going by. They buzzed right overhead~~ very cool, but still made your spine tingle knowing it was about to land!! What a rush. About how i feel when i fly! Also in another town we were just minutes before their parade started. There were people in their lawn chairs lined up and down the sidewalks so i figured i'd wave like i was supposed to be in the parade! :lol::dizzy: I'm sure i made a few people smile.
~~~MOOZ~~~your pictures with Shad were great! Thanks for sharing. She seems like a wonderful lady. And so nice of you to show her around your area. How lush and green that looks, just like i pictured Ireland would look. GREAT Marston quote today. Thanks for that one. Lets all do our best to plan to succeed. Glad the temps are nice by you...i did hear about London being so hot. Wonder if it will last till Sept. like the weather people here said? We are not too hot now, cools off to 50 degrees at night, but by Wed. they figure we will be really into the 80's and not cooling off too much at night. I think that would be the time to try swimming at the lake again. Might be warm enough then. ~~NITA~~~Good for you on moving the scale. glad the inches are coming down on measurements...i knew you would! YGG!! :cp: You are definetely moving the way you should be. What with the exercise center and your bowling which you really love, you cannot fail. ~~~CATLOVER~~~ Sorry to hear that DH tires so easily. I think it would be easy to have "sympathy pains" and end up feeling just like the spouse feels. But do take care of yourself just in case you have overdone it and need extra rest. A nap on Sunday is just fine. I take them when i can also. Well, sending a great big HUG and good wishes for a :strong: OP day to all the rest of the chicks~~~post soon! :wave: :grouphug: thinlizzie |
Good Morning Chickies - it is another nice morning here again today but unfortunately these mornings I do not get for a walk as I have to work:( Yesterday was my mother's birthday - she was 91. She is keeping as well as can be expected for that age. She is able to get about a little and enjoys doing little puzzles like word searches and watching TV. My brother bought her a big box of Minature Heroes:D ............. why is it that when something like that comes into the house I just cannot resist them :shrug: I must have ate about 10 of them and I am sure they are nearly 2 WW points each:devil: Anyway what's done is done and hopefully when I come home from work today they will be finished. I went for a 2 mile walk last night and again it was a beautiful night - the best time for walking in this hot weather. Thin - I just love the thrill of seeing planes flying low. I am facinated by them. Hope all you other chickies get a chance to post today. Keep on going There never seems to be enough time to do all the things that need to be done. Get busy doing them anyway. And while you're at it, throw in a few things you truly want to do, along with all those things you need to do. Then forget about how much time you do or do not have, and just start making use of that time. What will happen if you don't get it all done? What will happen is that you'll get some of it done. And that's infinitely preferable to sitting around worrying that there's not enough time. Do what you can with the time you have and you'll be making plenty of progress. When you're short on time, your best strategy is to go ahead and do what needs to be done. Putting it off until later, until it seems that there will be more time, will end up using even more of that precious time. Use your time to do, rather than looking for time to use. Time keeps on coming, so fill it with action and keep on going. -- Ralph Marston |
Quick Morning Post, Chicks~~
I am off for a test and a doc appt today. They are really checking me over good. ~~MOOZ~~~that is amazing that at 91 your DM can still do what she does. She still can enjoy things if she can work her mind w/the puzzles and watch tv. When my DGM was failing in her 80's she could not enjoy either of those things. In fact she pretty much just laid on her bed. So it was a blessing when she passed. We all think she hung on as long as she did cause of her family. She was the "head" and didn't want to give that up. But if they have ANY quality things they enjoy it can be alot better years for them. Yes, do be sure to pass those candies about whenever anyone is around so they dissapear fast! Just keep walking and working off the extra calories. I got a 1.25 mile walk in with my GF last evening. And we FINALLY got to spend some time together. Watched "my big fat Greek wedding" on tape. That was cute. Neither of us had seen it before. Just a nice evening. Well, off i go to doc appts and then i hope to get a walk in as now we are supposed to shoot back up to the high 80's and even 90 by Sunday. Maybe swimming will be the only exercise i want to do! But that will be better than none at all. I made some fantastic muffin cups that are a total breakfast for on the go. Plus they figure out to only 1 gram of carb each. They have egg, lowfat sausage, cheddar cheese and soy powder in them. I will be taking one with me today. Let me know if you want the recipe. :wave: :grouphug: thinlizzie |
Good Morning all you fine Chicks
Well as usual it is going to be 111 today--yesterday it was the same. I can hardly wait for this summer to be over. I want to work out in the yard but it is just too hot! Thin - Yes, I would most definitely like your recipe. It sounds really good. Mooz -- I know about those candies--when they are there we must have them! I was at the thrift store yesterday and picked another diet book--"Balance your Body, Balance Your Life" by Edward A. Taub, M.D. I haven't really gotten into it but some of the things he is saying are so true. This book contains a 28-Day Permanent Weight Loss Plan. One important thing he says is: "Don't teach your children that food is the enemy. Teach hem that food is a wonderful source of energy...food is energy! He also says: "Even though most people know from firsthand experience that diets generally do not live up to their promises, billions of dollars are spent on diet products every year. Stop giving these industries your attention and your money. They will not make you thinner, only poorer. And hey may make you sick." I plan on reading the rest of the book because I do believe this doctor is on the right track. I will pass on any more important issues that he raises. Well my scale is still out in the shed and I am pretty much OP. I believe I mentioned that I am going to my 50th Class Reunion on October 11th in Ohio so it does give me something to look forward to. Also it will be interesting to see if the thin kids are still thin! I had some bad news from Cleveland--my sister Char, who is two years younger than me had some kind of a stroke which has left her peripheral vision gone. As we speak she is in the hospital but she is lucky because she did have loss of speech or anything else. According to her doctor she can return to work in two weeks. You just never know from one day to the next what may happen. Well I had better get moving--I am trying to get organized today, especially in my sewing room. Take care, Anita |
I'm home...here's the recipe for: Breakfast Muffins
1 pound Jimmy Dean Sausage browned, crumbled and drained 4 eggs 1/2 cup heavy cream 1/4 cup Soy powder 1 cup grated cheddar cheese Beat together eggs, cream,and soy powder Stir in cheese and sausage. Spry muffin tin with pam, and fill bake in preheated 350 oven for 20 -25 minutes They will brown slightly on top, makes 12 @1 carb each tip from me...i think you need the soy powder that has 0 grams of carbs for this to come out to 1 each, but the one i have on hand has about 3 per serv. But anyway i'm cutting down on the carbs with having these on hand. Ended up eating one between appts today and that seems to have kept me going nicely. Getting warm out here, but no where near 111 like Nita! You poor dear! do take care in those temps. You will really enjoy that trip to Ohio in Oct. Yes, it will be interesting to see how your classmates fared. I'm sure you will get loads of compliments on how great you are looking. Sorry to hear about your DS having some type of stroke. Did she have high blood pressure or any symptoms?? Glad that it is not any worse tho. Sending :angel: :angel: 's for you and your family! All for now chicks~~~ thinlizzie |
Good Afternoon Ladies,
I need a good kick in the butt. I have not been able to get back on track. I know for a while my knee was hurting me, but now I have no excuse. I mean it's still kinda of hurts, but now i'm just taking advantage of that. I'm still doing ok on my food, but I have not gotten any exercise in. Thin - Sounds like you had a great ride. I hope all your test come out ok. keep us posted. Nita - So sorry to hear about your sister. You are so right... you just never know what lies ahead. Keeping your sister in my prayers. Mooz - I know what you mean about the candy. That is one thing I have stopped buying & when I do buy I purchase a single serving, that way I eat it & it's over with. WTG for getting your 2 mile walk in. I saw on the news where 50 people have died in Paris due to the heat. It gets pretty hot here too, but I guess we're somewhat use to it... we just stay indoors with the a/c & do all errans in the morning or late in the evning.. Cat, Hal, Chacha, Mitchellez - Hope you all are having a great day! |
just bringing us to the top!
Good Morning Chickies - I am a bit tired this morning as Orla was out last night and I never sleep as well when one of the young ones are out. So I will be even more tired sitting at the computer today :yawn: The minature heros have gone - I finished them yesterday!:mad: Went for a 2 mile walk last night again - another lovely night for a walk. Patty - here is your kick in the butt :drill: now you give me one back!! Thin - thanks for the muffin recipe - they sound delicious. Nita - I can understand you wanting summer to be over. 111 sounds very hot and I could never stick that sort of heat. To everyone else have a great OP day Act on it To reach any goal you choose, it's really not that complicated or even all that difficult. It is mainly a matter of acting on it. One way or another, action is what will make the difference. Action is what will take you to where you want to go, and action is what you can surely do. If you feel frustration along the way, don't let yourself get bogged down in it. Decide to turn the energy of your frustration into positive action. If you become worried about what could happen, there's a great way to get beyond that worry. Take the actions necessary to make sure that whatever you're worried about cannot and does not happen. If one path becomes blocked, don't spend a lot of time and energy complaining or regretting or feeling sorry for yourself. Instead, find another path and get yourself on it, for it is surely there. The difference between those who merely wish and those who actually arrive is always action. Act on it, with persistence, with commitment, with positive purpose, and it will be. -- Ralph Marston |
hot day on the way~~
Hey chicks~~ where is everyone?? I know our teachers are extra busy starting classes and such, and Cat has the new hours...but it sure is getting quiet and lonely in here. Miss you all.
Got my big messy kitchen cleaned up already this morning. I think after i post this i will take my coffee outside and sit and get some Vitamin C from the sun as later on it is supposed to hit 90 and that will be too hot to be out there. ~~MOOZ~~Glad to hear from you this morning. Good that the candies are gone, even if you had to help the matter out!:lol: Just try to walk a little further today and move on! Thanks for the 'toon. Very funny, i enjoyed it! ~~1DAY~~~ kick-in-the-butt from me to you also. Like Mooz said now you gotta kick us back! Maybe that spin class just was not right for you. I find that when i over-do and hurt something i quit entirely also. Wonder why that is :?: Anyway, try just a short walk to build up on and go from there. I didn't know that with high blood pressure i shouldn't lift weights. This brochure that i got yesterday says that, but i'm sure it means really intense. Just doing some upper body work shouldn't be too bad. Gotta ask doc about that next time. Always something! ~~NITA~~That book sounds very interesting. Let us know more as you read it. Foods really are drugs to our body, so we must choose the best ones. I have ignored this for many years and perhaps this is why i have so many health woes now, and at a pretty early age really! I must strive to do alot better for my body is the only one i get. Tried to see some meteor's last night. But with the full moon i did not see any. That makes it hard to spot but the brightest ones. Strange how many people and places got affected by that new worm/virus. I must have gotten my critical window updates done in time, as my comp. seems fine. Some drivers licence bureaus were in the news as they had total computer shutdown. That is what is scary w/these virus'. The big important places don't even care for their's properly. I really love my internet server (up.net) as they post all the latest stuff on their homepage, and always remind folks to do the windows updates and such. Very good of them. I won't know all my doctor/test results for another week, but this new pill seems to be helping my bp and keeping my heart beating less rapid. Hope the rest comes back good. Otherwise i might be seeing a cardiologist next. Well chicks, have a good strong OP day! I will do my best to do so also. :wave: :grouphug: thinlizzie |
Top Ten Staying Slim Secrets
Ever wondered why some people can eat what they like and yet never seem to gain weight, while others lose weight and keep it off rather than piling those pounds back on again? Here are the top ten staying slim secrets: 1. Slim People Plan Ahead Slim people will always pre-empt hunger and will never allow themselves to get overly hungry, as this can lead to binges. They usually won’t be the ones who grab chocolate bars or takeaways as they missed lunch and are now starving. They also pre-empt binges by eating something small before they go out to eat or to a party, or by carrying a healthy snack to tide them over if there’s a chance they may have to eat late. Good treats to carry include fresh fruit like apples or banana’s, or small packs of dried raisins or apricots (but beware – these last two can be calorie-heavy). 2. Slim People Only Eat When They Are Hungry Not because they are bored, stressed, unhappy or tried. Food should only be used for fuel, not comfort. If you find yourself wanting to eat outside mealtimes, ask yourself before you put anything into your mouth – “Why am I doing this?” Is it to fill a physical need or an emotional one? If the answer is the latter, don’t eat – instead, do something that will actively help you deal with what’s getting your down instead. If you do decide that you’re hungry, reach for the tap before you open the fridge. The symptoms of dehydration often mimic the feelings of hunger (lightheadedness and fatigue, for example), so what you could be feeling is actually thirst. Try a glass of water and see if you “hunger” fades. If it doesn’t, then it’s safe to assume that your body needs food – so go ahead and give it some! 3. Slim People Never Eat Standing Up You may count the calories that you eat at every meal, but do you also remember to count the biscuit you grabbed as you walked past the tin, the chips you pinched from the kids plates or the spoonfuls of mashed potato you “tasted” while adding salt and butter? One key to staying (or getting) slim is only to eat foods that you sit down to savour. 4. Slim People Aren’t Afraid To Let Themselves Have Treats If a slim person is offered a treat and wants it they’ll take it – or they’ll say no and forget it. On the other hand, if someone struggling with their weight is offered the same treat they may refuse it but then they’re liable to think about it all the time. This magnifies the treat in their mind and they’ll probably end up eating it or something similar – later in the day, in a bigger portion than they would have done originally. If you’re offered a treat remember the golden rule – ask yourself if you really do want it, or are you just tempted to eat it because it’s there. If you really do want a treat have it – and just eat a little less at your next meal. If you don’t want the treat, don’t think about it for hours after you said no. 5. Slim People Know That Exercise Is King A study of over 2000 people in the USA who had each lost over 30lb in weight and kept it off found that every one of them exercised and that on average they burnt 2800 calories a week through activity. They didn’t all go to the gym though – the most common exercise used to burn those calories was plain, simple walking. To burn 2800 calories by walking you need to aim for an hours brisk stroll every day (that means going fast enough to get you slightly out of breath). But don’t panic – you don’t have to do it all in one go, as the effects of exercise are accumulative. However, if an hour a day sounds like too much, you could substitute a couple of gym sessions – just 30 minutes cycling or stepping burns 300 calories. 6. Slim People Know Plates Don’t Have To Be Left Clean If they feel full, slim people stop eating – it really can be as simple as that. The key is to eat slowly and chew well. Take at least 20 minutes over a meal and you’ll probably find you’re full long before you’ve cleaned your plate. If you know you’ve had enough, don’t be afraid to throw away any food left over – and next time remember to serve yourself a slightly smaller portion. 7. Slim People Know The Importance Of Portion Sizes The US study also found that successful slimmers knew what a sensible portion of food looks like – and that it was considerably smaller than they were eating when they had a weight problem. Check your plate, and bear in mind that a portion of carbohydrates should be no bigger than your fist, a portion of protein the size of a pack of cards. Fruit or veg should then fill the rest of your plate. 8. Slim People Don’t Panic At The Odd Lapse So the “treat” you let yourself have as a Chinese takeaway and a tub of Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream – and you’ll never make up that many calories in a day. Don’t let it get you down! Successful slimmers understand that no-one is going to get fat from one mistake. If you overeat one day you haven’t blown it for good. Contain the mistake and move forward. 9. Slim People Don’t Eat Diet Foods The biggest mistake that some people make when trying to stay slim is to eat those 85% fat free foods, such as the McVities Go Ahead range of biscuits and cakes. They don’t taste quite the same as the real thing, so more often than not people usually end up throwing the diet meal in the bin and grabbing whatever is nearest to fill the gap – usually meaning they consume twice as many calories. Studies also show that slimmers eating low-fat foods tend to eat more of them than they would “normal” foods, as they don’t think they count in terms of calories. But of course they do, and they often contain even more sugar so that in fact they contain only slightly fewer calories than full-fat foods. As a result, it’s always going to be better to have one real chocolate biscuit than three low-fat ones. 10. And Finally – Slim People Who Gain Weight Don’t Let It Last If you find that you have gained weight, go into weight-loss mode for a few weeks and step up your exercise regime. Cut out desserts and excess calories until you have lost the weight again! |
Went to DMiL's for a combined birthday (self and DS). MiL doesn't get out much any more, tho her mind is still very sharp. She loves to read murder mysteries, especially the English cosy type. So we often share back and forth. I brought over a Rita Mae Brown (told from the POV of her cat), and an Amelia Peabody (a Victorian Egyptologist). Anyway, I said she might not like the second, as it is a bit dark and violent-though funny, and she said sh would like a change :-).
So I did get up and walk but ate cake and ice cream. Need to get to bed and get up early tomorrow--fairly early, need to be a work early so I can leave early and go to tell a tory tomorrow in the nearby town of Lecompton. Please forgive my neglect. Nita--sorry to hear about your sister, but glad the dr. thinks ti will be transient. Best to all= Catlover |
Hello All!
Sorry I haven't been on lately ....that worm virus has hit us hard at work among other things. This week has been **** at work:devil: I didn't even eat lunch today other than a 2 pt ice cream sandwich while driving DD to the zoo. Except then I went to the restaurant that I work part time at and ate everything I shouldn't:ink: Jeez.....I can't wait for my vacation next week. Tomorrow we are picking up my daughters dress from the seamstress. She will look soo cute. I can't wait to get out of town and hopefully relax ( or stress out with my niece and sis in law) before the wedding. Anyways, eating *was* pretty good before this crazy week at work. Hopefully it will slow down soon (2 more days...). Hope everyone else is doing well. Thin, I know the humidity is doing us in here. Next week up north should be better weather wise. Can't wait to get back to the north woods.... Mooz.....I know how those candies can side track you, even with the strongest willpower. They brought in cream puffs last week for work...good thing that those aren't one of my trigger foods:hun: Nita....I know about the scale monster. I wish for WW that they did not have to weigh you in so much. It is not a good thing for me. I play too many mind games. I would do so much better with a 1/month weigh in. But they don't like that.:shrug: Well, ladies , gotta go to bed. Have too much crap going on. Have a great Thursday everyone and I will check in before leaving for the wedding. Sherry :ink: :flow2: :grouphug: :wave: |
Hi Chicks~~
I wanted to say HI and do a short post now, as we will be away from home for the rest of the day. If the guy can trailer our pontoon out to the lake then we will spend the night also. We are kind of waiting on him for that. This is an older boat that needed severe fix up and my DH has just finished getting it running and looking better. He is never bored since retiring :) Did you all see 60 minutes last night? That discovery of what makes us eat ..started w/ the letter G...like Gherlit ? or something. Anyway they've discovered that when we have too much of it we do crave eating. People who've had that gastric bypass seem to get left with very little of that so that is why they don't want to overeat(not that some don't anyway!--they didn't get into that.) But it's good to know that that is probably why we have such difficulty in staying trim. They don't feel that they will have this "miracle pill" out for at LEAST 10 years. But i do like to hear what they've learned. I wouldn't doubt if the yo-yoing that has happened to people like me causes more of this substance to form. Wanting to go back to a "set-point". But i'm determined to get no larger!! This is where i want my maximum set point to be. I'd like to get 11 more #'s off if possible. But i certainly don't want to backslide to where i was. ~~MOOZ~~thanks for those slimming secrets. Very good, i'm copying those to my documents to read occasionally ! Thanks for letting us know about Michelle~~sure miss her and have been praying for her and her family. ~~~CATLOVER~~HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY :) hope you had a great day. Glad you could drop by...been missing you I bet your MIL will love those books. What a nice idea. And good for her to keep her mind busy. ~~CHACHA~~hello! Sorry to hear things have been so hectic at home and work. Yeah, that worm did sound pretty nasty. Hope everything is up and working now. I guess it does not pay to skip meals, cause we just binge later! Well, it's done now, don't look back and try to find ways to have some good-for-you foods handy. When is the wedding? this weekend? Wishing you the best with that and enjoy every minute of your vacation!! Will be nice to get away. Yes, the temps are creeping up each day here also. They predict near 90 today. And it's starting to get humid here again too. I agree, WW could do a monthly weigh in for the ones who want that, but they are just into that routine now and it seems they won't change for anything! As long as they get their money from us, i don't see why they'd care! $$$$LOL$$ Well, chicks, i am off to get some things together for our trip to the lake. I hope the water feels somewhat warm so i will get in! That is a deep spring fed lake and it does not stay warm for long. :wave: :grouphug: thinlizzie |
OH!! and MOOZ~~ love your new avatar. Didn't notice it till today.
