  • Hello there,

I have decided to join the human race again... I am still having some pain, but nothing like I was.. and I am beginning to do more things again. IT's still a drag and an annoyance to have this pain all the time, but it is tolerable and I guess like most things we adapt and get used to it. Anyway I am back. It is so hot around here, in the high 80's every day, and very humid..we had a lot of lightening and thunder around 3-4 this morning, but only a drop of mist came out of it so the humidity is still very high. Not that I am complaining, after all it is summer. Last night dh and I actually sat out on the deck on our glider for a short span. It was still 80 degrees at 9:30 last night, but we had a beautiful breeze...it was really nice, till the mosquitos came out, but I had sat long enough anyway... but at least we got a few minutes of time together. Hey, I'll take anything these days... needless to say our lovelife has been non-existent lately.

I've tried to keep up on the posts, I noticed there haven't been to many.. everyone must be enjoying their summers. I do have something to be happy about, besides the improvement of my health and that is that I sold a house. The one I was born in. I listed it on a thursday and it sold the following wednesday, and I got the asking price. I was surprised and very happy. I went to the closing yesterday,, boy they get a lot out of you to sell a house. Of course the government will get even more...so its just not fair.. anyway, we are going to do a few things around my home this fall. I am looking forward to that.

Grandma G. sorry to hear you got the worm.. I don't have to worry about that, I am still using windows 98... but I can imagine the chaos it has caused you. Computers are nice but a big pain when they don't work right. I just bought my youngest, who turned 21 last week, a new Dell for college. I ordered it on line on a monday, and it was here on wednesday, talk about fast service.

Meg I'll keep my fingers crossed for you to get that job. And glad your wrist is better to.

Cathy, I know you are having a great time in England with that granddaughter. You won't want to leave, I'm sure.

Hello to everyone else.. hope to read your posts soon.

    Dahlia
  • Hello from drizzley Scotland. Despite all the nice weather we have had recently I have some how managed to catch tonsilitis, only I could get it in the middle of a lovely hot summer. Am on so much medication to cure it all I am doing is sleeping, should be good for the weight loss though. But as soon as I can swallow again bet I munch my way through the whole fridge.

Hello to everyone, will catch up when I am feeling better - hopefully very soon
  • Greetings from smokey Montana! There are 57 forest fires in the state right now so it is definitely on the hazy side...
We've been having a fun holiday- spent the weekend last weekend in Waterton- did some hikes, canoeing (didn't camp- hotels are nice!!)
We've been here since MOnday and my brother and SIL were here with their 2 kids- same ages as Brendan and Connor...did a boat tour and yesterday the dads took the kids fishing.
My parents leave on the 6th- they are going to teach English in China for a year! (And travel a lot!- They get lots of breaks) My dad is semi-retiring and they are having an adventure! It's just so far!! 14 hours by plane!! But so fun for them. I'm glad they are doing it while they are still relatively young and have their health.
Just wanted to check in- although I am thoroulghy enjoying myself and it's been a hot nice summer...I'm starting to ansty for fall and cooler weather and Brendan starting kindergarten (!) and getting into a routine...
    Talk to you next week!
  • Jelynn - WOW - teaching english in china. I knew some people that went to spain to do that. VERY cool. I bet they will have fun.

Dahlia, I am SO very sorry to hear that you are still in such pain. I will keep you in my thoughts.

It is in the mid 90's today - but with the heat index it is 110. I waitressed on the patio of the restaurant today. can you imagine that we actually had 7 tables in 110 degree heat? and they ate BURGERS!!!! What are these people thinking? I have heat stroke (no joke). I almost threw up 4 times on the way home. I have a splitting headache, and am trying to cool off with a decaf iced tea. I brought the air down to 73, and have all the ceiling fans going. If it is this way again and I have the patio I am going to switch with someone.

I am going to lie down now. Talk to you later!

    Meg
  • Am feeling much better, still have the sore throat and can't eat much, but hey the pain is less than it was yesterday and I have managed to stay awake all day

Meigg, sorry to hear about the heat problems. We have had our summer now, schools back and the rain is here. September and the beginning of October can usually be quite nice, so here's hoping. I heard on the news the good weather in England is holding so I hope it is still alright with Cathy.

And Emily Brendon starting kindergarten, both of mine went back to school this week, time flies. Hope he loves it and you find that routine

Feel so down at the moment, guess thats the tablets. Can't wait until I wake up one morning feeling 100% and jump out of bed and go get at the day Can't be far away now - surely ?
  • Carol - I am sure you will feel better in a few days.

My neice is over and we are baking for xmas - 80 cookies so far, and making another 80. the first batches are in the freezer!

Guess what - I GOT THE JOB!!! I have a courtesy interview next week with a woman at my brother's company, but he already talked with her and she thinks I will be great at it. I AM SOOO EXCITED!!!

    Talk to you later!

  • Was having a browse around and stumbled into the yahoo web site, and had a good laugh at my picture. Have added a few more up to date ones.

    night
  • Hi all---we're back from an AWESOME vacation in the Smoky Mountains. I am completely bummed about returning to work tomorrow.

On the good side....while we didn't do much by way of exercise (unless you count walking around Dollywood in 90+ degree heat and a couple of hours of rafting), I stood on the scale today at the Y and not only did NOT GAIN, but lost a pound. So yay me!

    Ugh. Back to the grind.

    Colleen
  • Colleen - Congrats!!! GREAT JOB!

Today I got back on plan. Hope it lasts. Also did some yard work. Planned to work out, but felt ill for part of the day.

    Talk to you soon -

    Meg
  • Hello ladies,

Good going Colleen, coming back from a vacation a pound lighter thats fantastic...

Meg, when do you start your new job? Today I start back on track also.

I am still having lots of pain, but am adjusting to it.. I am getting things done, slowly but surely... 2 more weeks to go before I get my treatment. I've been researching the procedures, and don't really want to have the surgery,, but unfortunately I think I need it... will see what the doc says. The condition is called radiculopathy, even sounds icky

But I do have some good news. Just found out last night that we are going to be grandparents again.. It will be our son's third We are thrilled. They already have a girl just turned 3 in July, and their little guy is 19 months. They will have their hands full. Good thing we live near by.

Hello to everyone I didn't mention. Hope you are all doing good.
I have to get back on track. And today is as good a day to start as any..

So have a good one everybody and take care.

    Dahlia
  • I am starting early next year, so I am going to waitress until then. I think I am going to meet with them this week to get more specifics.

Dahlia, congrats on the news! How wonderful!

Eating my eggs for breakfast, and drinking decaf .

    Talk to you soon!

    Meg
  • Good Morning!

I am sorry I have been busy and have not checked in much. But what good news to come "home" to tonight -- Meg got the job and Dahlia is going to be a grandma again Congratulations! Congratulations! Congratulations!

And, Carol I see you were not feeling well -- but on the mend so that's good too! I'll have to check out your new additions to the Yahoo site.

Emily, I am sure you will miss your parents deeply but hopefully they will keep in touch with email, etc. You guys need to have web cams so they can "see" the kids. Instant communication does wonders for long distant relationships. But what an adventure they will have!

Colleen, welcome back from vacation and kudos on losing a pound -- never done that at all!

All is well, just keeping busy as Chris leaves for school this week. Katie was home for a few days too so it was a full house around here. Anything but quiet! Actually did my 3 mile WATP tape today and the treadmill (only 1/2 mile on that but I did it!) -- first time in months. Did WATP to the soundtrack from Chicago and improvised a bit but it was fun. Hopefully, a repeat performance later today.

Ok, ladies, I am getting tired here so hopefully I can fall back to sleep. Sweet dreams to everyone!

    Always, Terry
  • Here I thought I posted the other night, but apparently it was just in my head! LOL
Carol- I wanted to tell you that your short hair looks great! (And the rest of you too! your hard work is paying off!!)
Meg- what cookies are you baking and how do you store them for that long?? Just wrap tightly?
Welcome back Colleen! We just got back from vacationing too-- now to try to find my "groove"
Dahlia- I hope you can find relief!! And a big congrats on being a grandma again!!
Terry- I bought the WATP tapes and they are still in the box! I just need to start.

I am hosting a book club tonight so need to clean and get a treat made (thinking rhubarb/blueberry crunch) Full Day ahead!
to everyone else!! Have a great day

    Emily
  • HI all....gads--getting back to work is a big ol' grind, isn't it? I'm bummed that summer is pretty much over. How come our winter seemed to last FOREVER, but summer flew by? I keep asking why anyone lives in IN anyway....winters are too cold, summers are too hot, there are no mountains, there are no oceans...bleah.

Oh yeah. Housing is REALLLLLLLY affordable.

Anyway....we lifted weights at lunch today, so we're back in THAT groove, but I blew off bike riding on Monday, and fear I'm going to have a harder time getting back into the cardio groove. Maybe tomorrow after work...... Luckily, I'm trending down right now....

Made a HUGE pasta salad with tuna tonight....planning to take it for lunch. LOTS of veggies, which I definitely need.

In checking my stats on Fitday, I note that I could probably stand more protein but less fat. Any idea on how to accomplish this? My pasta salad has corn and garbanzos, in addition to the tuna....I'm hoping that is a step in the right direction.

    Colleen
  • Colleen - where in Indiana do you live? I was working my last job in Valparaiso - and we still have an apt. in Portage. We are spending this weekend there.

My niece and I made 15 dozen tollhouse cookies. Then we layed them flat in gallon freezer bags - then popped them in the freezer. Come december I will thaw them, dip them in chocolate and then sprinkle with nuts or candies. Everyone thinks I buy them already decorated.

Today I pretty much stayed on plan - may have been 1 or 200 calories over where I should have been. I did manage to do 10 minutes of the Firm video I have. I just can't face push-ups right now. Do you think it is okay if I skip them and just walk in place while they do that? I mean some exercise is better than none - right?

    Hope everyone is doing well.

    Meg
