  • Annie - yesterday, 3FC was blocked by nearly all browsers due to malicious content (probably contained in a banner ad). 3FC fixed it last night. Glad you're back with us. I'm glad to hear that Sassy is ok. $145 is pretty good for a doggie surgery. And if the surgery will keep her happier then it's worth every penny. I always say...when you get a pet, you've got to be prepared to pay for more than just food. That being said, after getting such a lousy grooming for Santa last time - Petco telling me AFTER they were done and I was out $70 that they'd never groomed a Schnauzer before - I ordered an electric pet hair clipper off Amazon for less than the cost of 1 grooming, so I'm going to start doing it myself. I'm sure Santa will look mighty silly the first time or two that I groom him, but I'll get better with practice. So sorry to hear about Bailey.
  • Happy - I'm glad you were able to check out the farmers' market and got everything planted in your garden. Hopefully next time you'll be able to harvest some Morels before they go bad. I hope your afternoon at the thrift store goes well.
  • Morning all,
Up early this morning as I am going back to help DS2 again with the reno. He was sounding a bit panicked yesterday and had such a lot to do. So I made a batch of scones and went up and painted trims while he rollered the walls. I put rubber gloves on to protect my finger which is rapidly healing now. Went there and jumped up and down scaffolding to get the job done. Apparently he has refugees moving in over the weekend. He was going to spend last night tiling the bathroom. Lucky he is good at these things. Today we will finish the last coat of trim, finish the tiling. Clean up for the carpet layer arriving probably tomorrow and get the tools and stuff out of the house. Then we need to start on the yard.

DB2 arrived around the house yesterday morning on his way to get a hair cut. He wants me to take him to the airport on Thursday since he is off to NZ as well for my sisters birthday. Just goes to show what you can afford if you don't gamble hey.

My new car will not now arrive until late July, early August. The dealer rung me yesterday to say that there was a delay on the shipping. To compensate they will install the 2014 upgrade at no extra cost. So that is fine. Cynically I suspect that someone else didn't drive the same bargaining power as I did and therefore is getting the car earmarked for me and I wait for the new one.

Happy - going out with the DH is much better for you than sitting at the computer. Sorry to hear that you are still getting such low temps overnight. That won't do too much for the garden except if you are growing cauliflower or broccoli or even parsnips are they all need frost to give them their great flavour. Shame you didn't get the roast pork into the crock pot - love roast pork.

Mel - will sit by the phone with lots of coffee brewed on Friday.

Michelle - Good to hear that you are back to exercise and are doing stretching stuff. Better take pictures of Santa after you groom him for the first time. We like to see interesting things like that.

Annie - it seems that I must have got in early enough yesterday since I haven't had much problem getting into the site. Getting it to stay in one place is another thing. It is really bad on the cursor jumping bit today.
Glad to hear that all is well with both Samantha and Sassy.
Hope C's children grow up soon and start to behave like adults.

Ceejay - happy filling of tanks etc.

Laura - Strange about the contact lenses. I have no problem with mine. I wear Acuvue brand. They are supposed to be monthly disposables but I usually manage to get about 2 1/2 to 3 months out of them. Never get dry eye unless I am really tired or the lens is just too old.

Miss Puss is again sitting at the closed door. She is becoming a real old lady. Doesn't want her breakfast. Dinner is not good enough.
Finally the sun has risen and I can see it peeping through the trees. Time to get showered, fed and ready to go to the DS2's place. I will be there until lunchtime, then I need to come home and do some work around here. The garden needs water and weeding. However first, trim up some nails and then shower.
This site is a real pain with jumping cursors this morning. I'm a bit worried I might lose this post. See ya
  • Whew what a day! First of the phone was driving me nuts and I had to start to refill the tank. Lo and behold they forgot to turn off the other tank and it over flowed. The boss was a bit embarrassed. I laughed. I'd only gotten 6 feet of water in the other tank when that happened. It took till 12.45 p.m. to fill it to 29.0 feet. I'd gone over to the waste-water lab to have my friend boss sign his initials where the other person made a mistake, and when I got back the filters were draining. Flew down stairs to start closing the filters. I made mention to the maintenance man that I'm getting to old to be climbing under and over these pipes. The rest of the day was spent filling up the water towers. I had to let them drop to 31.0 feet. They hold 38.0 foot of water. I'm still putting water in the other water tower.
    I'm tired mentally.

    Will do personals later.

  • Shad
Guess we are all getting older, even the cat. Sounds like she is set in her ways too. Good for you in offering to help in the reno's. Right down your alley

    Mel
Glad you are feeling better. I'll be glad when this day is over. My 3 day week end will be here. And I'm staying home. It's to hot to be on the road.

    Laura, Michelle, Happy, and Annie
    ---------------
I'm yearning today to go visit my sister. My niece posted a picture of my Sis and her grandson on FB. He's such a cutie. And he turns one year old at the end of the month. It's looks like they were having lunch outside in the back yard. I'm missing out on so much. It will be nice to get to finally be around my family. I've never had that opportunity.
  • Oh Happy Day, Oh Happy Day!! Just thought I would start it out on a positive note. Every time my phone rings at odd hours, I get a sick feeling in my tummy. It happened twice this morning, both calls were good. So I am going to have a happy day and be positive. All good things come to those who wait.

Sissy is coming up for lunch and shopping at Costco with me today, of course, this will be a two hour lunch. SHe came up yesterday and today she is coming back to return a couple of items at Costco. Ok by me, two days I get to visit with baby girl and lil man. Sassy is none too happy about it as this is a Sissy day. Beats being in the cage all day as opposed to a couple of hours. Wish you all could meet Sass in person, she is such a lover puppy and sweet.

Cs DD, Maryann came over last night. She and her BF. We ordered Donato's pizza. Bacon and tomato pizza. I just love that combination. We ordered a pepperoni for them. Tons of leftovers which pleases C to no end. I rented Silver Linings Playbook, which I saw at the movies with DS and DDIL, however none of them had seen it. It was just as good the second time around.

My eating is terrible and no exercising, which is no surprise to any of us. lol. I did walk a mile on Monday around the pond. Whoop Whoop. I think Laura has us all beat on exercise.

MELLIE...Thanks for the extra hugs, I will take them and pass along to Sissy at lunch. THe meatloaf is seared on all sides for 3 mins each before placing out on the grill then you lay bacon across the entire top. Then there is a sauce you make on the stove and pour half on top wait 15 minutes and pour the remainder on it. It makes a nice glaze. Bacon is nice and crispy too.

CEEG...gez your day wore me out just reading about it. Good idea to get that mistake initialed by boss so it won't come back to haunt you. Cover your bases girl.

SHADDIE...you are such a great momma to DSs, and to Ms. Puss too, altho I don't think she appreciates you as much as DSs. lol Maybe another delay in the car will get you something else free or maybe they could knock a few bucks off?

CHELLE...haha about Santa looking funny for a while. He will get used to it and only be embarrassed for a while. I used to groom Bella when she used to let me in the old days. You will do fine!!

    HAPPY...wakey, wakey, eggs and bakey.

    LAURA...how did the WI go?

Guess I better post before I lose it...literally, hahaha

    Hugs
  • Good morning girls,

Got a surprise phone call from my SIL last night. If my Sis will drive my Mom the 2 hour trip north to SIL, she will bring her up to our house and stay a few days with her extremely well behaved grandkids. That's great - means only one 8 hour trip for Mom instead of two. Of course in my SIL's usual fashion they will be making the trip THIS weekend. That makes for some really tight timing to get the house ready for visitors and plan out things like meals and such. So I will be a very busy girl and probably not on the computer much over the next week or so. I guess with summer coming into full swing, several of the regular volunteers at the thrift store are taking some time off. There are holes in the schedule and I signed up to work 2 days early next week which I will need to cancel now. I am still honoring my commitment to tomorrow afternoon though. We have no one to cover the store Friday and Saturday afternoon and with our first big summer festival right in town, that will mean lost revenue for the store if we have to close it due to no volunteers. I am doing my part by taking the Thursday slot. I did manage to get the pork roast in the crock before I left yesterday. Came home to a delicious dinner - will definitely do this again.

Annie - pizza sounds delicious as well as the meatloaf on the grill. I love meatloaf Sorry to hear of your friend's loss always sad to lose a devoted companion. So many people talk about losing a long time pet and then they are reluctant to get another one - but thankfully after a period of time, they usually do. Have fun with Sissy today.

Michelle - glad you had a great time at the dog park. You seem to be finding more fun activities now - must be the fun in the sun CA living Keep it up! Did you decide on a gym yet?

Ceejay - perhaps you should schedule a trip to visit your sister? Can you fly or is your only option to drive yourself? That's a long trip but I agree with you the little ones are cuties and they grow up so fast.

Mel - how's the sciatica coming along? Gone, gone, gone I hope Did you reschedule your meeting with the SS people? Hope you and Shad can connect up on the telly soon.

Shad - congrats on the new car. Hopefully the current one won't get wind she's long for the car lot and will last out the time until the new one arrives. Whew! sounds like DS2 has his hands full with the new renovations. Lucky you are a handy family - hope they get done in time. Nothing like a tight deadline to make you move faster. Good to hear DB is using his money for better things. Guess you won't be going to Sis' BD party or is this the near term trip you had planned?

Glad you mentioned about 3FC and malicious content. My antivirus blocked a mis-direct twice. Thought it was here but it happened fast - sometimes my fingers are crooked.

Laura - hope you are having a good day - I'm sure you are over my head typing again. Will catch up with you later.

And with that, I really need to get moving. Have a good one ladies, I will be here sporatically but with you in spirit.
  • It is a lot of work but oh so good!

    Grilled Bacon Wrapped Meatloaf

    1 pound ground beef chuck
    1 pound ground beef sirloin
    6 ounces ground pork
    3 slices sandwich bread
    1 egg

    1 clove garlic, chopped
    1/2 sweet onion, diced
    1 large carrot, diced
    1 small bell pepper
    1/2 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
    1/2 tablespoon chili powder
    1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
    1 teaspoon kosher salt
    6-8 slices good-quality bacon
    1/2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

    5. Preheat grill to high, or oven to 325. If using a grill, heat only one side.

    6. Render bacon about halfway, so it is still pliable. Sear meatloaf on allsides, about 3 min per side, then move to cold side of the grill and shinglewith bacon. spoon glaze over loaf and close lid.

    7. Cook for about 15 minutes, spoon glaze over loaf. Close lid.

    8. Cook for about 30 minutes longer, until the meat has reached 155 degrees.

  • Good morning ladies -

Another busy day ahead...lots to get done for work. Santa and I are enjoying California living. I am more light-hearted than I've been in a long time. I'm very grateful to my step-mom for letting us stay with her until I have a more permanent job.

I haven't signed up for a gym yet. Though I'm pretty much deciding on 24 Hour Fitness. There are three that are convenient to work/home/doggie day care, and they offer classes at good times. The thing I'm debating is the "level" of membership...do I go with the fairly basic package, which gets me access to 50% gyms that are convenient but don't have as much in the way of amenities...or do I pay a bit more and get access to pretty much any gym in the area, including some that are brand new and gorgeous. I'm going to tour the lower grade gym nearby, as well as the brand new gym. I did find out that if I pay "up front" for the gym and purchase the membership through Costco, I can save A LOT of money.

Today, I think I'll do a Zumba DVD that i checked out of the library, and then take Santa for a walk if he's not too tired. I haven't slept well in a couple weeks. Too much on my mind. Hopefully the exercising will clear that out.

    ====================
Shad - Good on ya for helping your son with the reno work. Glad to hear the finger is still healing nicely.

Annie - So nice that C's daughter didn't cancel out. And that you got to see Sam and the lil man two days in a row.

Ceejay - What a hectic day you had. Sheesh! No wonder you were tired. I hope today is a bit easier.

Mel - Don't work too hard. I hope you're feeling better and don't have sciatica anymore.

Happy - How nice that your sister and SIL are helping with transporting Mom. I know how much you must be looking forward to her visit. I really miss my DMIL. My ex says she'll be coming out later this summer and staying with one of her daughters. And I've promised DMIL that I'd take her to the beach or wherever she wants to go.

    to Laura!

    Gotta get back to it!

    Much love,
  • HAPPY....thank you for the HILARIous birthday card. I brought it to work to share with my buds. hahahahaha and it is so true and me!!! Perfect!
  • Afternoon all – later post today and for a change I’m not typing over Happy’s head.

Michelle - I can imagine trying to squeeze all the meetings into a three-day week – why do they try to schedule them all on Tuesdays? Wednesday is a good day for meetings - people are more likely to be in the office. I know I hate to take single days off mid-week – just don’t want to come back to work the next day!! Thanks for posting the links to the back and hamstring stretches and exercises. I’ve done many of them during cool-downs at the end of exercise classes. I need to make them a daily thing – stretching and flexibility in general is very important and I just don’t make time for it, just do it when it’s incorporated into an exercise class. Hope the gym locations you can make it to have the right amenities and class schedule so you can make the best of the membership. Sounds like you’re really enjoying being back in sunny CA!!! I’m so happy for you sister!!

Happy – Did you buy any good bread at the Farmers Market? Yum, just love good bread. We met a friend on Sunday at Panera and bf & I had bread with our salads and soup. We didn’t eat it all, so we took the leftovers home and wrapped/froze it. Love good crusty bread. Gosh, you're still worried about frosts up there! Glad it didn’t get that cold and that you protected your plants. We had a chilly day yesterday, but no frost worries. Still, my veg patch (two tomato plants, one fresno pepper plant and three 95% dead bean plants, LOL) are not exactly thriving. I don’t think the veg patch is in the optimum position for the most sun, and being next to a flower bed probably blocks a bit of the sun at a certain time of day because some of those flowers can get tall. I’m thinking about some major changes to that flower bed – it’s been left to its own devices for years and it’s jam-packed with flowers, and you’d think there’d be no room for weeds to invade, but they still manage! Glad you got the pork roast done – sounds delish. Nice you’ll have guests coming to stay and shake up your schedule. Hope the shop finds some volunteers to fill in for the weekend. So you’ll only be making the trip to take your mom back home? How long will you stay when you’re in town?

Annie – Glad Sassy’s procedure went well yesterday. Sad to hear about Tari’s dog passing away. She had a lot of years with Bailey though, have to be thankful for that. Glad you aren’t permanently blocked from this site at work. I've tried to get to a couple sites - maybe from links that someone suggested - that were blocked by my company – due to content or just not deemed safe. Didn’t run into that issue recently with this one though. Yum, pizza – we had it last night too!!! I just put myself on the library’s request list for Silver Linings Playbook – I’m number 43!!! But they have 5 copies of it and if it’s new, the checkout period is only 2 days…I might get it in 2-3 weeks!! Maybe we’ll just rent it from Redbox instead, LOL. Weigh-in was good – down 1.2 pounds. I think the exercise is the main contributor because eating has been somewhat so-so lately. Speaking of eating – I’m not even a meatloaf person and that meatloaf you made sounds YUMMY. But it’s quite an involved recipe – I’m sure I’d enjoy it significantly more if someone else prepared it, LOL!

Shad – Nice of you to help ds with the reno work. Long wait for the car, but now you don’t have to choose between the car and little S, LOL and you get that upgrade.

Ceejay – Sounds like yesterday was challenging – I keep imagining a bathtub running over, lol. What really happens when the tank runs over – where does all that water go??. Hope today goes better. Are you going to schedule a visit to see your sister and her grandbaby anytime soon? Weekend coming already for you – nice!!

Mel – Have a lovely day today and not filled with too much work! Yeh, I suppose my eyes are getting dryer – I’ve done the same type of work for years and worn soft contacts for years, so it’s probably me that’s changed. :

    ==
Went to the eye doc last night for a contact lens follow-up appointment. Yeh, the left lens was not sitting properly in my eye, so this brand is out for me. I have severe astigmatism, so it’s hard to properly fit my eyes with lenses. Back to my usual brand – they gave me the trial pair of those last night - and I hope nothing’s changed with the lenses. My rx hasn’t changed, thank goodness.

Instead of Middle Eastern for dinner last night, we opted for pizza. However, bf ordered from the wrong Malnati’s location! Much further drive for him – it was the one we usually go to when we eat in. The one nearer the house is a carry-out/delivery location only. When he went to pick up the pizza (at the near location), they didn’t have his order. They asked if they wanted them to cancel the order at the other location and order it there, but he said no. He didn’t think it was fair to have them eat the loss. If it had been me…if they’d offered to do that, I would have accepted. Oh well, that’s okay, we put the pizza in the oven when he got back with it and it was fine. So fine I had TWO pieces! That’s a lot of pan pizza. Bf updated his cell phone contact list so he doesn't do that again!!

My sweaty Jazzercise classes make me want to rework the car seat cover I made out of the bath towel and elastic. Too much of a PITA lately to get the elastic where it needs to be. Now I’m planning a design where the cover has an opening at the very top where it can just slip right over the headrest. I want to add some fabric to hang over the back and have it sewn to the front (towel part) at the sides so it’s sort of like a sleeve that goes a little ways down the seat back. But not too far down so as to interfere with the seat belt! I’ll check my stash of fabric, but I’m almost 100% positive that I have something that’ll work for that. That’s one project. The other is letting down the hem on some slacks.

That’s about it for me. Going to the nearby Thai Festival w/ a couple work buddies for lunch today. Hope they’ve got some tasty food there!
  • Laura - The reason that all the critical, in person attendance required, meetings are scheduled for Tuesday is that some of the team members work from home on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and others on Monday, Thursday and Friday...while the rest of us work from home on Mondays and Fridays. Tuesdays are essentially the only day that ALL of us are in the office. On the other days there are still meetings, but they are done via conference calls. I not good about stretching either. I just don't make time for it. I need to though. I need to get my back better because there are a lot of doggie-friendly hiking groups I'd like to join up with, but the usual hike is at least 2 miles and often 5 or more miles...and I can't get around the block without pain. Congrats on the weight loss! You've got to be close to goal, right? Good for you!!! You have me drooling at the mention of Lou Malnati's pizza. Yummmm. Wow! I'm impressed that you're designing your own car seat covers!! I hope your lunch is delicious!
  • Laura,
Funny you should ask about where the water goes when a tank runs over. This particular tank runs out the through an over flow port hole. It looks like a water fall. And unfortunately the water falls on the ground and out to the street. I should have made a picture of it but I was to panicked to do so. I did get a picture of the tank draining.
Wow, I wished I had your sewing ability. My mom was excellent at sewing and repairing anything. I didn't have the patience. I need to make myself hem some pants.
They invited me to the baby's birthday party this week end, but I can't go. I'll probably go in August around my birthday.

    Michelle
Don't think I could handle a 2 mile walk/hike. But this is a good way to meet new friends.

    Shad
How did the reno's go yesterday?

Now to go back and read some more

  • I ALMOST WENT TO THE STORE TODAY.
