bootwoman 04-24-2003 06:52 PM

Debbie, gout is a buildup of uric acid that usually manifests in the toes and feet. I have eaten high protein for a lot of years and never had any problem. I think the problem is that I haven't been drinking my water the way I should. I'm going to do a flush with unsweetened cranberry juice and I should be as good as new! Hubby even said today he wants to go on Atkins with me. That will sure simplify the grocery list! LOL

Sherry 04-24-2003 07:58 PM

Howdy!!

I started a new thread then had to cook.So now I'm back to post!! :D

Debbie,
Yes!! I hear ya!!! 19 1/2 more days!!! I'm counting every sec!!! LOL! The kids are SO wild!! We had a 1st grader to smear cream potaoes all in another child's hair today!!!! BTW: Hey, it's ashame that you couldn't have "squeezed" out that RUM before you gave the choc. away!!

Jeanne,
Two months on Atkins? WTG!!!! I'm so happy for you!! I know you're excited about Maui! You'll be looking GREAT when you leave in 2 months!!! :) Keep it up!!!!

Ramona,
I can't believe that we both graduated in '78!! What a great year huh? Doesn't it seem like it was a LONG time ago??? Since I started doing better on my eating & walking, I'm eating more fruits & veggies too.It really fills you up!

Gayle,
Yep....Betty Boop's motorcycle was vibrating!! LMAO!! You are too funny! Actually, I didn't notice that until you pointed it out!! LOL!!! BTW: I still can't think of sayings for Liz's graduation. What all do you have planned? It's EXPENSIVE in Senior year, isn't it? I thought we would have to get a loan when Chris was in his Senior year. Now we have to go through it all again with Drew in 3 years!!

Shelley,
The reunion is June 14th.I will probably go.I'll let you know.Tell your Daughter I said Happy Birthday!!!!! Drew got his driving permit during Spring break. My Mother took him!! He turned 15 in Jan. Oh the headaches we have to look forward too!!! How was the lunch out??? You didn't answer me! LOL! Sorry to hear about your car.Your luck is like ours! Something bad is always happening!!!

Jennelle,
Yep! Its fun having teenage drivers!! NOT!!!!! I really dread this with Drew! Chris is 20 now but do you remember when he was 16 and got his truck? He hit someone in the rearend 2 weeks later!!!! :yikes: No wonder we have grey hairs!!!!!!!!!

Dee,
I wanna come to Winnipeg and see Richard Gere!!!! You lucky thang you!!!!!!!! Those people are so LUCKY who rented their house out for the movie!!! It must feel like a dream! Debbie is right...Maye if you hang out there, they may need EXTRA'S!!!! WOW.....it must be so exciting!!!!! BTW: Your Mom is still in my prayers.Bless her heart!!!

Carol,
HEYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy for you!!!!! 6 days OP!!!! :cp: I KNEW you could do it!!!!!!!! :cb: You go girl!! Don't give up now...you have just started!!!!!!! If you get discouraged, think about your trip in a swimsuit!

Has anyone heard from Vicki or Lisa???? If you do, please tell them that they are missed here!!!!!

Doni,
Are you still doing good? I hope those pants fall off like mine did!!!! We can do this....Can't we!!!!!????

Dee (Titan),
Where are ya????? See you retire and are just so busy! LOL! Hope to see a post from you soon!!!!!

Ok Floozies.....Gotta get my walk in, take a shower & iron.See ya'll tomorrow.......

Hugs!

gdeann 04-25-2003 12:00 AM

Dee: Can I get your autograph???? I'm trying to remember the story...are you friends with the lady that played in My big fat greek wedding? I knew you would get the Betty Boop joke...kinda took ol' Sher awhile though....
BTW: Jewelry makes a nice graduation gift for a girl.

Ahhhhhhh....the teen years.......driving!!!! YEEEEEKS!!!! About three months into driving I get a call from Liz, she rear ended a lady. Not just any lady...the District Judges wife! On a good note, she was a sweetheart and even gave both of us hugs before leaving!

Sherry: I'm planning a get together of family and friends after graduation. It will be at a local hall, more convenient then our small house! I'm ordering a few 6 foot subs from Walmart, then doing the relish tray, chip thing. I'm making the cakes, so that will cut down on expense. I am taking the snack size KitKat candy bars and making new personalized wrappers for them on the computer as party favors. Thats why I wanted some different quotes.

Okay: Now I need some graduation gift suggestions from you veterans!!! When your kids graduated, how much did you spend on a gift and what was it??? I'm kinda clueless on what to get Liz. I wanted to start her out getting her a piece of nice jewelry on special occasions. I was thinking for graduation, a pair of small diamond stud earrings. But, she's a tomboy at heart, so I really don't know if she would like that.

Maui Wowie 04-25-2003 12:33 AM

We booked our trip to Maui on New Year's Eve. We are leaving on June 21 for one week (2 days after school gets out). I figured that if I had a trip planned it would give me incentive to lose some weight for my New Year's resolution. It took me a little while to get started, I knew I wanted to try something different. I stumbled across this board in mid January and after reading all the inspirational messages, I decided to try Atkins. Ordered the books, they arrived on my birthday, had one last celebration that weekend and then I started on February 24th. So that's my story and the reason for my screen name.

Gayle, I still wear the jewelry my parents gave me as comemorative gifts...a pearl ring for confirmation and a locket for my 16th birthday. I can't remember what I got for graduation (probably luggage!). My vote is for jewelry...maybe something engraved with initials and the date is nice.

ShelleyM 04-25-2003 05:38 AM

Gayle-I agree with jewelry. Diamonds, of course!! Earrings are good, or a ring or necklace. If she is a tomboy, then probably studs for earrings, or a necklace with a small diamond in it.

Sherry-Our lunch out was wonderful!! I had a salad with REGULAR dressing, which is unheard of for me!! We still have enough money left to get lunch out for a couple of weeks!! Yesterday, we got a basket of muffins from the 2nd grade staff and a fruit tray from the 1st grade staff. The media specialist sent us each gorgeous flowers. Today, I hear through the grapevine that we are getting breakfast, lunch, and a massage in our chairs!! I'll let you know how that is, if it happens!!

Becky was so happy to get her permit yesterday. She stayed at my school all day and showed all her old teachers. The principal took it from her and said OH NO!! Her kindergarten aide still works at our school and started crying, because she felt so old!!

Jeanne-You are doing fantastic. All this talk about Atkins is making me think I should try it, just to get myself off of the sugar that I keep eating!!

Debbie and Sherry-I both are really doing awesome on your eating and exercising. I am so proud of you!!

I am depressed again. MIL was at Patty's strings concert last night, and I was not very nice to her. I sat in front of her, and when she talked to me, I would answer without turning around. I really am ashamed of myself and should apologize. I'm not sure what to do---I really dislike her so much, and can't seem to make myself be nice. I did give her a very loose hug before we left.

Time to go to work. Have a great day!

gdeann 04-25-2003 08:55 AM

Shelley: Maybe you could send her a small note card thanking her for attending the concert along with a short note, you had so much on your mind, you apologize for being somewhat distant. I understand, I have a few people in my life that I dread being around. I guess it just boils down to who can be the better person. It will make you feel better! {{HUGS}}

Deelite 04-25-2003 09:49 AM

Very good idea Gayle. I liked the advise you gave Shelley. As for the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding "Nina" is from our city. We have dined in her uncle"s restaurant many times. Great food. She also has an uncle that has a small car dealship that my dad bought a car from. They are just very ordinary folks just like the movie.
We went back to the set last night. They were shotting a shot with Carrie Lowell outside the house with a man that just had eye surgery. I will probably go check it out again this afternoon. Maybe Richard will be in tonight. So if you girls want to see him.......we are posting mileage on the exercise thread to get to winnipeg! I will save you a spot. You can all come.
Well I better go get ready for my walk.
Oh yeah one last thing, Gayle for Jason's grad I bought him a really nice watch and had something engraved on the back. He wears it all the time.

Jennelle 04-25-2003 11:38 AM

Gayle - I like the diamond chip earring idea...they're not terribly expensive, but they're very nice. I don't remember what I got for my high school graduation!

bootwoman 04-25-2003 12:20 PM

Gayle, we just gave each of our boys $500.00 for graduation. Ben bought a recliner for his room(Mr. practical) and Dan went to Florida with his buddies.
I have two non relative girls to buy for this year and I am getting them gift certificates to a Day Spa. My nephew is graduating and I have NO idea what to get for him.
Your party ideas sound great! I'm sure Liz will be thrilled with everything you are doing for her. You're a great mom!

gdeann 04-26-2003 06:01 PM

Hello group!!!

Just came back from a painting workshop. Not my kind of picture or the colors I would go with, but I am learning new techniques. I will try to post a pic later. Thanks for the suggestiond for graduation. I hinted that one of you had a daughter graduating and had asked about jewelry as a gift. I ended up getting a curled up nose response, so I'm guessing jewelry is out.

Although, I have a new thought. Liz is wanting to redo her room, so I priced a futon (rolls out to a bed) and small matching vanity. This is still in our budget for what we wanted to spend. Steve & I are thinking about giving her the pieces along with the understanding that we will take one weekend and go in and repaint the room and redecorate. Kinda like playing Trading Spaces without cute Vern there. What do you guys think??? I think she's at the age where she would prefer a more grownup/apartment style bedroom with seating etc.

I hope everyone is doing SUPER DUPER today!!!! Not staying op.....eating pizza tonight!!!

mzbhavin 04-26-2003 07:19 PM

Hi everyone....Sorry haven't been around for awhile.

Hugs To All...........

Sherry 04-27-2003 02:40 AM

It's 1:30 am and we just got home from the hospital.Wayne's Father had emergency surgery tonight.

He's been having VERY bad headaches for a few months now.About 3 weeks ago when they did the Cat Scan & MRI, it showed bleeding on his brain. He was suppose to go to a specialist next Tuesday to find out if medication would stop the bleeding or if he would have to have surgery.

To make a long story short, His headaches got so bad tonight he could no longer stand the pain so Wayne's Sister took him to the hospital around 5:30. They did another MRI and it showed TWICE as much blood as it was 3 weeks ago. By 8:00 tonight he was in surgery. He was out of surgery at 10:30.He has two holes in his head. One in the middle of his forehead and the other on his left side (with draining tubes). He's still in the recovery room and will be moved to ICU in the morning. Wayne's Sister is staying tonight wih his Mom in the surgery waiting room.Wayne & I will probably stay tomorrow night.

I'll keep you posted as to how he is.Please keep him in your prayers. He's the sweetest 78 yr. old man I know!

Love To All.......

siamese 04-27-2003 06:19 AM

oh my god sherry is he ok?
you and yours are in my prayers.
why was he bleeding there?
doni

ShelleyM 04-27-2003 07:19 AM

Sherry-I am praying for your FIL. Please try and get some rest today.

Sherry 04-27-2003 09:36 AM

Mornin'

I'm getting ready to go back to the hospital.Forgot to tell you: Wayne's Dad is bleeding on the brain from bumping his head getting into his car. They said that it wasn't uncommon for his age. We won't know how he'll respond to the surgery until 24 hours later. Please pray for him.

Good News:

I lost another 2 lbs!!!!!!!! :cp: My total weight loss is 16 lbs!!!!!! Started March 17th at 191......Today it's 175!!!!! :dancer:

More later......Have a great OP day!! :)

Carol101 04-27-2003 11:00 AM

Good Morning.

Sorry for not posting, just not getting on the computer at night it seems and I had to get up early 2 days in a row so I didn't get a chance to post in the morning.

Can I brag a bit?????

I have been OP now for ..... 10 WHOLE DAYS!! !! I am going to weigh myself tomorrow and I will let you know how I am doing. Cross your fingers for a nice weight loss for me. I am reallying feeling good about this now!

I went to garage sales yesterday and walked around for 2 1/2 hours so I guess I got my exercise in for that day!!

I was really concerned I wouldn't be able to walk for more than 30 minutes. Now that I know my ankle will tolerate walking, I am definately going to do more of it.

Now that I think I have the eating under control, it is definately time to add the exercise. Plus I am drinking tons of water. That is always a plus.

So I hope you don't mind me tooting my own horn, but it has been so long since I stayed on any plan for more than a day or two, I can't help it.

Sherry: I am so sorry about your FIL. How is he doing? He is in my prayers. But, don't forget to take care of you too! Get some rest.

Gayle: Granduations can be both exciting and stressful if you are a parent!! I really like the idea of redoing your daughter's room. I am sure she will love it!!! Great idea!!

Vicki: It is so exciting getting a new car!! Enjoy!!! You deserve it!!

Well, I have laundry, dishes, clean up house, etc. to do because I was gone most of yesterday. After the garage sales, I went and watched my granddaughers play in volleyball tournaments, so now I have to pay the piper and get some work done around here. But it was worth it!

Talk to you later!
:grouphug:
Carol

Jennelle 04-27-2003 03:23 PM

Sherry - Wow, just from bumping his head on the car? I do that all the time. I guess I'd better start being more careful.

gdeann 04-27-2003 05:05 PM

Carol, I must tell you that your message sounded su upbeat today!!!! Congrats on the 10 days OP!!!!! You wanna send a little of that motivation this way???

Sher: I know your busy with FIL, so you might not check this. I'm saying a special prayer today. When I first read your note, I thought he had a cerebral hemorage (sp?) He must of bumped it fairly hard to have so much blood collecting on the brain area. Will he run the chance of any brain damage? Give Wayne a special hug from me and remember that your dad in-law and your whole family is in my thoughts and prayers.

mzbhavin 04-27-2003 07:23 PM

Sherry your FIL,Wayne and all are in my prayers. I know the tough time you are going thru and know that I am thinking of you.

I can be down in a jiff with my new car and help in any way. You have been there for me.

Lord, take this family in your arms and protect them and heal them at this time in their life. Help them to recover quickly from this untimely incident in their lives. Give Sherry and Wayne the love and guidance they need for their family.

Everyone have a good week.

Vicki

DebbieA 04-27-2003 08:18 PM

Afternoon girls:cb:

I talked to Sherry alittle while ago, and Wayne's Dad is holding his own for now. He is still in ICU so they can watch him carefully. Sherry sounded exhausted. I think she is coming home around 8.00 after the last visit.

Sherry....Please let me know if there is anything I can do for you or Wayne. WTG on the 2 MORE POUNDS!! 16 pounds is great!! :bravo:

Carol...WHOO HOOO!!! 10 days OP!!! WTG!!! :cp: :cp: You are beginning to sound like the old Carol. Not old really, just yourself...LOL. Can't wait to hear the good news after your weigh-in!!

Vicki.....WTG on the new car!! No excuse now for not making a trip to Nashville this summer! Enjoy it, you deserve it!

Gayle... I think the redo on Liz's room sounds like a great gift. What are her plans for after graduation? I gave my kids money for their graduations, bet they don't know what they used it for today.

Dee. Shelley, Jeanne, Doni, Titan Dee... Hope you had a great OP weekend. Love ya!

We have been gone most of the weekend. Yesterday we helped my daughter and SIL hang siding. Well James cut the siding and I watched the babies. Today we spend the day with my Mom { her surgery is at 7am in the morning} So between visiting Mom at the hospital this week, taking care of Grannymom and doing things that James still isn't able to do, and working.....I will try to post!!!

Hugs...deb

Titan Card Fan 04-28-2003 08:42 AM

Sherry, our thoughts are with you and your FIL.

You, gals have been really busy with posting etc. I'm still not sure where last week went. Other than going to 2 mid-week auctions and one luncheon, I didn't do anything that time consuming but yes, with retirement you seem to stay busy. This week is major housecleaning as I will probably have company for the weekend.

Take care and I'll try to check in more often.

Deelite 04-28-2003 02:50 PM

Deb how did your mother's surgery go? I am thinking and praying for her. You guys sure had a busy weekend.

Sherry how is your father in law doing? I am praying for a speedy recovery. Make sure you get rested up. I know running back and forth to the hospital is very tiring. Keep up the great weight loss.

Gayle redoing Liz's bedroom is a great idea. It is something that she really can enjoy. A piece of jewlery is alos a nice keep sake but you can't really enjoy it.

Vicki congratulations on the new car. It is nice to zip around in.

Carol 10 days on program I am so happy that you are motivated and doing so well. Keep posting here and we will keep you inspired.

Well I am waiting for my Mom to call. I believe she has a new blood clot in her leg. She was going in this morning to get her blood tested and I told her to ask the doctor for a cat scan. Her leg is swollen more than when she was hospitalized and it is also warm where the swelling is. Not good.
We had a nice day with her yesterday. We went to the legion for the afternoon and had lunch there. There was a silent action. We walked away with a few prises. I won the door prize which was a potted african violet. The I won dinner for two at a restaurant and Larry won a hamper basket from Old Dutch potatoe chips. Many different types of chips. Of course we won the food, excluding the flower but I guess if I got really hungary I could eat that too. My mom won a pic of the San Fransisco bridge. She really wanted that prize so I am glad that she won it. She also won a golf shirt and mug. So we walked away with lots of goodies.
Well I guess I better get some work done. Hope you all have a good day.

DEE

Carol101 04-28-2003 07:21 PM

Okay ladies.. are you ready.. Drum roll please.....

I HAVE LOST 7 LBS!! :cb: :cb: :cb:

I can hardly believe it! What a wonderful way to start the week! :goodvibes:

Sherry: How is your FIL doing?

Dee: Your mother?

Debbie: Your mother and Wayne?

So many of us with members of our families having health issues. You are all in my prayers. As I am sure you could all use a hug right now too. Here you go... :grouphug:

Gayle: I wish I could send you some of my motivation, but I am not sure I have much to spare. It took me forever to find mine... I just pray every day that it doesn't go away.

Jeanelle: You are doing so great too. Keep up the good work!!

I had my final physical therapy today for my anke. They tell me my mobility is really good now. I just have to keep exercising it and it will keep getting better. I am going to try the treadmill for a few minutes tonight. I can hardly wait to get back on it!

Everyone have a great evening.

Carol

Sherry 04-28-2003 07:52 PM

Hi

I'm really tired but wanted to post before I get started on the house (I didn't have time to this weekend).

After work, Wayne & I went to the hospital. We just got home. His Dad is doing as well as to be expected .He's on so much medication he's talking crazy a lot but the Dr. said that this was normal. He may go to a regular room tomorrow. He's still in ICU. Thank You so much for the thoughts and prayers.I really, really apppricate them.

To Everyone else: I love you and take care!!!!! :grouphug:

DebbieA 04-28-2003 08:59 PM

Hi Girls:wave:

I just got home from the hostipal and Mom is doing so good. In a lot of pain but came through the surgery great! It is going to be a long road for her getting well but they are so hopeful that she will be walking {without pain} for many years to come. Thanks so much for all your thoughts and prayers. I believe prayer really works!!

Sherry..... I'm glad Wayne's dad is doing better. Please don't get run down. WTG!! On the water thang!! and staying OP for 43 days!!

CAROL!!!!! WTG!!! WTG!!! :cp: :cp: I am so proud of you! Wayne??? James is doing so much better, even mowed grass today!! WTG JAMES!!! LOL

I have to ask everyone's opinion about something!! I kinda changed plans today. Anyone ever heard of low-carb food in a hostipal...LOL. SO....I ate low-fat today!! Is that legal and can I still say I was OP today? I weighed this morning and stayed the same :( :( But I refuse to get depressed !!

Sorry I just don't have the energy to post to everyone tonight...but I love you all!!

Hugs...deb

Jennelle 04-28-2003 11:22 PM

Debbie - I think the most important thing is that you made good, healthy choices with what you had in front of you at the time. After all, this is a lifestyle change; we can't expect that every place we go will support our personal plan. So I say, yes, you were OP today. :)

ShelleyM 04-29-2003 05:50 AM

Deb-I agree with Jennelle!! You did good, considering what you had to work with.

I ate a bit too much yesterday. I went overboard on honeydew melon, but at least it wasn't candy!!

gdeann 04-29-2003 08:43 AM

I just had to jump in here to tell Carol how proud I am of her!!!!!

Carol: You have made a commitment to stay OP and you are seeing the results!!!!! I am sooooo happy for you!!!!! GREAT JOB!!!!

To all of the families that need prayers: You have an extra one being sent from here.

I will post more later, I need to get some work done.

HAVE A GREAT OP DAY!!!!

Deelite 04-29-2003 09:58 AM

Debbie give yourself a pat on the back. You made wise choices. You will probably not be on a high protein /low card diet all your life so this is a practise run. Glad you mom is doing ok

Sherry get some rest too. The house isn't that important.

Carol I am so proud of you. Keep going.

Shelley over eating on melon....it sure could be worse.

Well I really have to run. I have a photo shot here in a few minutes. I will tell you more about it later.

DEE

mzbhavin 04-29-2003 12:06 PM

Sher & Deb prayers for you loved ones going your way.

Hey you girls are doing on your op ..keep it up..

Been busy with all the Derby events going on...

Have a good one...

Vicki

gdeann 04-30-2003 12:27 AM

Dee, if the paper gets a pic of you in the photo shoot, please scan and post, ok????

Vickster: I am always so happy to see a posting from you!!!! What do you think of a little trip next year to meet everyone? Will you be able to make it?

Sher: I hope FIL is better tonight. When will you know if he has any damage? This is off topic, but todays Dear Abby was about compulsive cleaners or perfectionist. I thought of you! Grab the paper if you have a free minute.

Deb: Hows Mom???? You are one busy lady!!!!! I'm glad to hear that James is up and moving more. Just in time, with you helping your Mom and Grandmother out. Don't worry about staying strictly Atkins. Whats important is that you are choosing healthy foods.

I hope everyone else is doing ok. I just came back from a board meeting and am heading to bed, alone again..... Steve's gone until Thursday.

Jennelle 04-30-2003 11:49 AM

Gayle...I just went and read that Dear Abby online...my mom was like that for the longest time! I don't know what her turning point was, but she eventually lightened up.

I agree about the "close the door" part. When both hubby and I were growing up, we had messy rooms. His parents didn't bug him about his. My mom CONTINUALLY nagged me about mine! I would always tell her, "It's MY room." She would say, "It's MY house!" My own children are also slobs, and I just close the door. I think it's actually made them more responsible, in a way. They've learned to get their clothes in the laundry basket if they want them washed, and if they don't, they get to wash their own stuff. I am proud to say my 15 year old boy knows how to use a washing machine. :)

gdeann 04-30-2003 12:01 PM

Jennelle, I use to be alot like that too, but something happened along the way!!! My house is never filthy dirty, but it tends to get cluttered!!! My 18 year old daughter should get the "SLOB OF THE YEAR" award! I shut the door and dread ever opening it. God forbid that I should ever need to walk into the room....they might find me in the Spring!!! She is very responsible with laundry, work etc. just the room is horrible!

DebbieA 04-30-2003 05:58 PM

Hi Girls

Just checking in with everyone to let you know how things are. My Mom is doing so much better but it's been a rough few days. Her blood pressure dropped so low for several hours but now it's back to normal. It will be a long road for her but she seems to be tougher than I thought. She is determined to walk and do everything the doctor's say. She is suppose to be moved tomorrow to the rehab wing of the hospital.

As for me I'm hanging in there and busy as ever. I just came from my Grannymom's and tonight I am spending the night with Mom at the hospital. She made us promise that someone would stay with her until she was feeling better. So...me, Dad and my 2 brothers,my baby sister, and my SIL have stayed with her around the clock since Monday. After they move her tomorrow, hopefully she will feel better about staying by herself.

I'm still trying to make healthly choices and portion sizes. Adkins will have to wait for easier times...LOL.

Hope everyone is doing OK.

Somebody has a birthday coming up in 2 days!!!

I just shut the girls' doors. My youngest has her clothes all over her floor. The only problem is--they are the clean ones!! It's her decision, though and I don't touch them!!

Shelley - My daughter is the same way...the only thing that I can't abide by is when she cleans her room and there are clothes STILL FOLDED in the laundry basket. THAT steams me!
