Morning all.
Happy – Yes, I believe Gone Girl is Gillian Flynn’s latest. The “Unfinished Work of Elizabeth D” sounds very interesting. I’ll have to get myself on the list at the library for that one. Getting chilly up there in the Northwoods – I agree, way too early for that. Hope it’s a blip, but it does seem you’ve got a definite trend going there… Shad – Sounds like you had a grand tour yesterday, but too bad you missed your houseboat friend. Hope you rested the knee enough and that lunch and dinner went well and you were able to take some nice family photos. Nice run-on sentence there – it’s not like I’m paying for the punctuation, lol. Horrible and scary re your friend Chris’s home break-in. One thing to be burgled, another when you’re in the house. Mel – Glad it was a nice day for you yesterday – we need more of those! Hope you get your shopping done! Ellen – That’s not a pleasant surprise for the kiddies, and you too I guess, since now there’s more rush-rush to be ready! Sorry work is slow for you, though I wouldn’t mind that for me at the moment… but not for long, of course. Michelle – You have to listen to your body and give it some downtime, so the clutter will still be there tomorrow, lol. But I do strongly believe in everything having a home, and that helps with clutter A LOT. I do have a home for those sections of the newspaper that I don’t get around to reading right away (that aren’t really time sensitive, like the travel section), but now I’m finding some piling up on the dining room table and in the 3-season room – shame on me. :o Get well wishes to DH – too bad he can’t spare any time off this week to get him through this. I bet you’re counting down the days to when the good insurance kicks in!! And another countdown until you get to take some time off! Ceejay - Enjoy the cool weather! Hey Annie, Patty, Java – how’s it going? == Bf used the car last night so I did a BE workout in the basement – quads, abs, glute & hamstrings. My abs are already feeling it – whoo. It was a routine with a small ball placed mid-back, instead of doing crunches with the back flat on the floor. Not sure where the rest of my evening went. :?: Tonight I’m skipping movie night and I need to get to an exercise class, except the only one I want to get to starts at 6 – a circuit class. I’ll have to try and get out of the office a bit earlier to make that one. I’ll have to make really good progress on a project this afternoon though because I have a meeting tomorrow morning about it. Maybe I need to suck it up and go to the Tighter Assets class at 7 instead. :halfempty: TTFN! |
Hi ladies,
Our internet was down last night and all morning - they said it was STATEwide. How does a carrier lose an entire state????? And of course, we only have one option for service so we are stuck. We were going to take an ATV ride today and DH spent a good part of the morning with Verizon trying to get our new phone to work. We are having problems with billing - first they saw we owe them odd amounts of money (like 5 dollars), then they say not. Our service is horrid even tho there are 3 cell towers in the vicinity and they saw we should be getting excellent service. They reprogrammed the phone 4 times with no luck. DH finally went into town to the Verizon store to see if they can do anything about it. So probably no trip today. :( I have to remember to water my plants first thing in the morning as they are getting less sun and with the cold overnight temps they are getting stressed. My cucumbers are getting seams in them I'm sure from the temp swings. My poor sugar snap pea plants are trying so hard to push more green at the top of the plant while the main lead from the root is all but rotted out. I planted a few seed pods in the ground just to see if they sprout. I had never heard of Brandywine tomatoes Michelle - thanks for the recommendation. I understand about being tired at night - especially after working all day but maybe do the fly lady thing and set a timer for 20 minutes and head upstairs. When the timer goes off you are free to stop and chances are, if you get started you might get a bit more done. Sorry to hear DH is sick again. We are getting bills from DH's visit to the emergency room - even after the high deductible, we are still paying an awful lot it seems. Maybe we will finally be able to claim a deduction on our taxes next year. Mel I hope the shopping is going well. Get something good. Annie - we miss you  Shad - enjoy more sights today. Ellen - hope everyone is feeling better. You too Ceejay ;) Laura - hope you get your project done on time so you can leave early and be ready for the meeting. Gotta run now... |
morning all,
Had lunch with the DS1 yesterday and did a bit of shopping. Not a lot that I wanted to buy, but it was nice to have the time to look. Then went to dinner at the house last night but as usual can't get the three of them together for long enough to get pictures. DS1 and M weren't getting along too well either. She likes to be in control ALL the time and he wasn't having it last night. Seems he won the battle the night before and the baby slept from 10.30pm to 5.00am. M is not impressed that he was right. I really fear for those two. Anyway, no more photos today but there may be by this evening, who knows. Things change fast around here. I'm taking the other grandmother out for lunch today. Not sure where we will go yet, I left that decision up to her. However according to M, I am not allowed to take her to anyplace which has poker machines, and she can't eat a list of foods! Sometimes you got to wonder who the child is. It's all about control. Anyway, we will rub along just fine and if she wants to go to pokies, I will put the kybosh on that and not because of M but because of DB2. I now find I can not be within earshot of the things without murderous thoughts intruding in my brain. Mel - hope you got to go to the shops. I'm out of food here too. I didn't get to the market yesterday, so I will have to do whatever it takes to get some food when out today. The fridge consists of some icecream, cream, bit of pumpkin and half a capsicum, half a loaf of bread and 2 eggs. Theres some fruit as well. Not much for a full meal unless I only eat pudding. Happy - Yeah, the burglary was frightening for them. 'Specially since he is not long out of hospital for a hernia operation. A moment of carelessness is all it takes these days apparently before these lowlifes consider that your stuff is theirs for the taking. Anyway being an American, you could always pop out your AK47 assault rifle and shoot them. I suppose there are two sides to everything. I see there have been more shootings over your way. Actually, the police over in Sydney raided some gang place last week. Came away with a hoard of unlicensed illegal weapons including a couple of the above. Seems that one of the gang members is an expat American who considers that even though he isn't in his own space, he has a right to bear arms and got them through some US mobster over here. There is some conjecture that they were part of a stolen shipment on route to the army base. Not proved of course. That might embarass the government and the defence force. Now how cynical am I Ellen - how interesting that you only just found out now that school resumes earlier than thought! That should make for a busy few days for you. Hope you manage to get it all. Be grateful you don't have to find uniforms as well. I well remember those days. The kids would have grown out of everything. But that's where a uniform does come in handy. No arguing about what they were going to wear. Michelle - so sorry to hear that DH is sick again. It really sucks, poor guy. Hope you manage to get some more decluttering done today. When the space begins to show, it really makes it all worthwhile. Not sure whether G will allow dogs or pets on the boat. We often see dogs on private boats in the Brisbane River. Some have been trained to poop over the side or right on the edge and you see the boat owner draw a bucket of river water and sluice down the deck. Some lay down sheets of newspaper and it all gets rolled up and put in the bin when they come ashore. They might consider one dog, but I doubt that anyone would consider 4. Laura - yep good sentence that one. The answer is:- Yes I did Yes they did No I didn't. Hope that makes sense. Well done on the abs stretching. Hope you make the exercise class tonight. Happy - just read your last post. How does anyone lose an entire State? have they given you a discount for services unrendered? Anyway, better get myself sorted for the day ahead. Should be interesting. I doubt that I will see the family tonight, but I will check on progress to see if things went according to plan last night. Don't know if I can put up with the angst again tonight even though I love to see DS1 as often as possible. I'll be back. |
SORRY FOR THE ABSENCE. I HAD COMPANY.
AND LOTS OF CALLS TO MAKE. THEN JEN CALLED. BUSY IN THE OFFICE WITH THIS VACATION NONSENSE TOO. THE DR JUST CALLED AND HE WANTS TO SEE ME TOMORROW. TOLD HIM OK. I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS FOR HIM TOO. LOL HE'S LIKE A FLEA ON A HOUND DOG. WON'T LEAVE ME ALONE!!! I PROMISE TO COME BACK TOMORROW SOMETIME AND READ. BTW....THURSDAY IS FOOD SHOPPING. HOPING THE WEATHER IS GOOD FOR WALMARTS. THE DRIVER WAS WRONG ABOUT TODAY. LOL I HAD TO CANCEL ....RAIN AND LIGHNING. BEEN A LONG DAY AND I NEED A SHOWER. HOPE TO CATCH UP WITH YOU GALS SOON:moped: |
Good morning ladies -
I woke up early to come in to work and get a head start on things and now I can't connect to the servers that I need to in order to get caught up. :tantrum: :faint: I didn't get any decluttering done last night...just too tired by the time I got all the errands run. Tonight, I was going to go to an hour-long Zumba class, but since I woke up with my right hip and right low back area very sore, I'm going to pass and definitely do some decluttering tonight as it's garbage/recycling day tomorrow. I'll do Zumba class tomorrow and on Friday evening, I'll be doing a lot of walking at Irish Fest. ============ Laura - that BE workout does sound tough! Good for you!! Did you get to the Tighter Assets class? Happy - That's weird that the internet was down Statewide! What Internet carrier do you have? Our internet was fine. Bummer about the hassles with Verizon causing you to miss your ATV ride today. Thanks for the suggestion about the FlyLady timer method. Mel - I hope the appointment with the doctor goes well. And that you get all your questions answered. :crossed: Don't you work too hard, sista, regardless of how many people are on vacation. Shad - Sorry that M is being such a control freak and that she and DS1 are having troubles. I hope the situation improves soon for everyone's sake. Did you have a nice lunch with M's mom? Were you able to keep her away from the machines? You're right about the shootings here. Not far from Milwaukee a white-supremecist gunman opened fire on a Sikh temple; so very sad. I hope you get to see DS1 and Sophia again today. I got a laugh at the trained dogs on the boats. I only have 3 dogs...maybe I can get a houseboat owner to give me a quantity discount on the rental deposit. Anyway, a houseboat vacation is so far off in the future, who knows. :dunno: Much love, |
Just a quick hello from the train this morning. I have a lot to get done before my 11 am meeting today.
I didn't get to a class last night, but I did another BE workout- calves, hamstrings, biceps & triceps. Shoulder a wee bit better, but still have to be ginger with it. It's getting there, but the tendon/ligament/whatever right at the elbow joint is still a worry. I might be headed to the orthopod next month... Have a great day everyone. :flow1: |
Laura
Good for you in getting the exercise done. I may have to look into to those BE work outs. I'm still emailing my sister. Shad Enjoy you lunch to day with grandma2. I hate to see such a controlling person. Think all families have them. My cousin seems to be that way. Happy You'll learn to drive the ATV. I saw a beautiful motorcycle that had three wheels on it the other day. Sure would like to have tried it out. Michelle I'm glad that you are listening to your body. Mel Please send us some rain. We rally need it. Maybe Thursday will be a better shopping day. Annie Where are you? ------ No new is good news. |
Sorry girls...have been on the sofa since Saturday evening. Missed M-T of work. Started with a week long sore throat last week then went to my sinuses and chest. Heads pounds, coughing is crazy. Still feeling like poo. May not be at work all day. Feeling a tiny bit better today with no energy. (I have not cleaned in five days if that tells you something). I will get back with you all when I am up to reading and posting.
Loves and hugs. |
Good morning all,
Yesterday was a rather topsy turvy day. :dizzy: The phone - DH took it to Verizon who said since we bought it from Walmart we had to return it there (even tho it was the tech on the phone from Verizon who killed the phone with her reprogramming it). DH was pretty sure he tossed the receipt from the phone but Walmart was very nice and the guy at the counter was really helpful, even getting on the phone with Verizon. In the end they decided we had to send the phone back to Samsung (the manufacturer) for replacement. I'm not sure why because Verizon was the one who messed up the phone in the first place. This time around we opted for a no contract phone so we purchased it at Walmart with a month to month re-up of service. The guy at the Verizon store said had we bought it at his place (with a 2 year contract) they would have replaced the phone on the spot but since we didn't, we had to go back to the place of purchase. Also, we paid our monthly service fee of $80 and the clock is ticking away while we have a dead phone. So DH has to call Verizon to give us credit for these days of service we can't use. I must say that all of this is making me really question the need for the stupid phone in the first place !!!! :tantrum: We have lousy service although they tell us we should have 17 bars because of all the cell towers around us and have been diddling with this for 2 months now. Were it not for the fact that it's more remote out here and the fact that if you have a breakdown or accident, you can be in some trouble, I'd just chuck the whole thing. Since we were at Walmart, I decided to pick up a few things. By the time we got back to the house it was 2:30. I was getting a bit hungry and DH wanted to go for a ride. I ate a handful of nuts and we took off. Got to the place and DH realized he had taken the passenger seat off the ATV when he was hauling some brush and forgot to put it back on . So off we went back to the house again - luckily it was a quick ride 10 miles away. I ran into the house for a minute and when I came out DH was backing up the trailer with a frown on his face. There were some warning lights on the dash related to the skid control system. I wasn't too worried about it as we were not driving in snow or slippery conditions but DH was kinda annoyed - mostly I'm sure thinking expensive repair. And he didn't want to drive the car. I told him to go call the Toyota dealer and ask them. Sure enough, it was ok to drive but needed to be checked out. We were about to take off again when I asked DH if he was going to put the seat back on the ATV. :o He got distracted when he saw the warning lights and forgot all about the seat we had come back for. We start the truck again and the warning lights are no longer blazing. :dizzy: Went for a ride, it was nice. The trees are starting to turn fall colors. Some brilliant reds so far. Just a hint of color but no mistaking it, autumn is coming to the northwoods. We had a nice ride in search of a lake my cousin said was pretty. We drove round and round - took so many forks in the trail I'd have never found our way back. It was getting late and starting to cool down. We were just about to turn around when we finally found "the lake". Not much more than a small muck pond it was  Not worth all that searching although the trail itself was pretty with lots of trees and tall pines. Reminded me alot of the Pacific Northwest area. This will be a pretty ride when the colors are in full bloom as there's a wide variety of trees and bush in there. As a passenger, you sit with your legs pretty much in one position and short of stopping and stretching, after a while your legs start to cramp because unless I wrap them around DH (which would give the squirrels opportunity to talk about us) - there's not much I can move my legs. I mentioned this to DH as we were stretching and he asked if I wanted to drive the ATV. I figured it would give him a chance to have a look around as it's hard to keep one eye on the trail and the other roving the forest floor. This was a rougher trail - alot of ruts, some water and many, many rocks. You really had to pay attention to what you were doing. And of course I was totally unfamiliar with this. You have to use your thumb on the right hand to continually press the throttle to give it some gas. As soon as you let up the ATV slows quickly so you generally don't need to use the brake. This is wider than a bike so that also takes some getting used to. The one good thing is that sitting closer to the engine you get some nice warmth on your left leg so that felt nice in the coolness :D It was a bumpy ride, I was very nervous but I felt I had to keep pushing through this. DH said I needed the practice and was doing fine. A few times I felt like the buggy wanted to head off the road and right into a drop off :yikes: But you can control the speed with your thumb and we were only going 10 to 15 miles per hour which at times felt like 60mph. I was never so happy to see the car and the trailer at the end of the trail  By the end of the ride - I think I drove for 30 minutes, my hands were all stiff from the tension. I would do this again (drive) but would prefer a more smooth sand type trail instead. We got home about 6:30 which was too late to start dinner from scratch so we just popped some frozen dinners into the microwave. Blech. They were awful. Would have been better with a sandwich although I was a bit chilled and wanted something warm. I need to spend today working on some soups. We did discover that there is something going on with the car - backing up with the trailer causes the warning lights on the skid control system to come on so that will need to be checked out. I hope it's not an expensive repair. :( Laura - hope your meeting goes well. Michelle - that's frustrating that you came in early and couldn't accomplish what you set out to do. I hope you don't jump too fast into Zumba considering your back is talking "back" to you  Sorry - couldn't resist that one. We have Century Link for our internet service. I suspect that they have probably grown faster than they can handle things as we get periodic slowdowns which they attribute to too many people on the trunk. Not my problem folks - you don't give me a discount when I get less than the service I am paying for. but when you only have one choice for a service provider, you don't have much in the way of options. Mel - sorry the weather messed up your shopping plans. Will you still be going tomorrow? I hope it dries up a bit - sounds like you've had more than your share of rain - you'll be all pruny looking soon :( And those dreary gray days have to get to a person after a while. Shad - well it sounds like it's probably a good thing that M is a plane ride away and not down the street. Sounds like she can be quite difficult to deal with. Poor little baby doesn't know what she's in for. And I don't have an AK47 - just a pistol with a laser site  I am in favor of having a gun - but TOTALLY believe that with it comes education and responsibility. I have to say it's a much easier place here with low crime because everyone has a gun (so there is little opportunity to prey on folks unless you are just darn foolish) as opposed to living in the city where only the criminals and low life are armed, ignorant and preying on the regular folks. They are also cocky which makes them all the more dangerous to deal with - up here people respect fire arms and what they can do. The problem with guns are the criminals and no matter what you try and do, the criminals will always find ways to get arms, drugs and another other illegal things. Anyway, that's my 2 cents on the subject. If they get caught doing a crime with a gun, cut off their trigger finger ;) Well I need to get off my soapbox and get some things done around here. The cement men are due back today to finish the job and I have lots to do around the house today. Have a good one chicks. |
Sorry you are so sick Annie. Make a cup of tea with some lemon and honey for that cough :coffee: Get your favorite get well blanket and go back to sleep.
Hi Ceejay  |
Brain is fried right about now. Just a hair appt tonight, so I can just sit and read a magazine, or just look at the pics, hahaha.
Made good progress today for my meeting. Plenty to do tomorrow, and my motivation will be my day off on Friday! :) Annie - you poor thing, feel better soon!! |
Morning all,
Another friend is in town today so we will be catching up for coffee this afternoon, maybe dinner. Number 1 son rung me last night and said the previous was not quite as good as the one before but very acceptable. I hope it is the start of a trend since he is the one that gets up to feed in the middle of the night. He needs his sleep to get through the work day. Anyway ........ won't go there any further. Yesterday I had lunch with M's mum. Apart from the fact that I got lost and couldn't find her to pick her up. Stupid navigator in the car took me to a street with the same name in another suburb. I knew it wasn't her place since these were all million dollar joints. I guess I will learn to navigate that thing any day soon. Anyway we finally hooked up and had a meal and a long gossip. Didn't touch too much on the kids since we have diametrically opposing ideas as to what constitutes a stable relationship. She has the big C or at least had. In remission at the moment and I feel a bit sorry for her but really she is her own worst enemy - talk about a drama queen. But it was fun most of the time. Then I came home and turned on the heat and read for a while before thinking about dinner and deciding I didn't want any. Today I am going up to Hahndorf. My friend who is flying in this morning wants me to pick up some chocs for his wife and a big smelly roaring hot salami for him or as he describes it 'and really hot burn ya bum out salami' So now I am going up there on a mission. Mel - hope the doctors appointment went okay. When I get back I am going to ring you and give you the same treatment that you gave me last call. Whinge, whinge, whinge. Happy - glad to hear you are making progress on the bike. For some reason I had the idea you both had a bike each. Silly me. It is getting close to the official Autumn season for you, we are well into spring down here. Don't do spring very well in Brisbane. We only have Hot and Wet and Warm and Dry. Not much in the way of traditional spring flowers or blossom up there. I was trying to put up a photo through photobucket but things are very slow today and I get too impatient. Try it out again later. Annie - sorry to hear you are so sick. Just go to bed and sleep. Lemon honey and a couple of margaritas will make you feel better. Michelle - hope you get to the declutter tonight. Once you really get started it will be a whole lot easier. Of course it makes it easier if you do it close to rubbish day since you can't then retrieve it out of the bin. Laura - hope the abs are feeling better today. Off to the shower and dressed and out the door. I'll be back from historic Hahndorf later today. See you |
Hi girls...
Took a break from resting on the couch. I have back aches from sleeping on the couch...have stuffed pillows under the cushions, unstuffed, boarded, unboarded, nothing seems to make me happy...good sign I do not feel very good. Worked till 1 pm, then came home to the uncomfortable couch....Next couch WILL be comfortable. I am sleeping on the couch so not to infect C. He has no time for being sick nor any sick days. That alone scares me. He keeps volunteering for the couch and me the bed, but I really think he needs the best rest considering I do not sleep much and he sleeps like a bear in hybernation. Sorry no personals, I promise to get back later...Loves and distance hugs..... |
