Good morning worldlies,

A storm rolled through early this morning and cooled things off. :carrot: Too wet to do anything outside but all the windows are opened. :D Spent a good part of yesterday with an online site - hairstyler dot com where you upload a picture and try on hair styles. Although I don't want to, I think it's best if I get my hair cut short for the time being. After all, it will always grow back. But it was a tedious thing going through all the shots and sometimes the site and my browser would get funky and hang up. I think I've decided on a tolerable style, now to make an appointment with the salon. Went into the garage to put some things away and realized as the time is flying by that I only have about 10 more weeks before the cooler weather sets in so I'd better put some effort into tackling the boxes in the garage. If I'm going to try and sell some of this extra stuff, I should have it before September's Labor Day holiday before the summer crowds go home. Something to focus on. I have to make a list of things I need to attend to. Did call the retiree service center - this time from my job not DH's and tell them for the 3rd month in a row to stop sending me invoices for the insurance coverage I did not sign up for. The thing is, the girl I spoke with said she was the one who put through the cancellation order back on May 1 so who are you supposed to believe is screwing up? We are having the same issues with DH's place - ask them to do something and it doesn't get done.

Shad - giving Sophia caffeine???? Ain't that amazin' ??? I did enjoy the joke about you and Mel taking her out for coffee. Sorry you are too busy to breathe yourself but only a week more of this and then you can ease up for a bit.

Mel - Lovely Day - reminds me of a song on the soundtrack from the movie - The Bodyguard by Bill Withers. Such a pretty song...
Then I look at you
And the world's alright with me
Just one look at you
And I know it's gonna be
A lovely day
Lovely day, lovely day, lovely day

Too bad you can't write to a school or boy scouts or something to get some help putting in raised garden beds. Sounds like a perfect community project. Wouldn't take much in materials, maybe the local Ace Hardware could donate the wood and screws. Probably the most expensive thing is the dirt and compost mix to fill the beds. Guess you need to fill in a request first :write: :comp:

Aren't those fruit cups cute on my avatar? But those are in lemon and lime halves. Even with larger citrus those are some tiny balls  I see alot of foo foo stuff that I take pictures of in case I have the need to be inspired some day. Yesterday I made a pineapple salsa to go with our pan seared chicken (too much trouble to grill it so I just put it in a pan). The salsa was good - basic salsa ingredients of finely diced - red onion, small clove garlic, red bell pepper, cilantro, fresh pineapple chopped into smaller bits, a touch of salt and some fresh lime juice. I am not a chili person but I had purchased these small cubes of red chilies that you keep in the freezer and pop one as you need them. I decided to try it as the salsa calls for chopped and de-seeded jalapeno (which I could have pulled from the garden now that I think of it). The red chili was hot so I only used a half of the cube. Left the mix in the refrigerator to cool and blend flavors for about 30 minutes while I cooked the chicken and corn on the cob. It was a nice, light addition to the meal with just a bit of a kick from the red chili. I did have a little bit of a belly ache about an hour after dinner but it was just a twinge or two and I was fine.

Michelle - glad you are enjoying your orientation and you made it through the first day without the horror of thinking "OMG WHAT did I get myself into???? That's great that they take so much time to give your orientation - so many places just toss you in the pond and expect you to figure it out for yourself. I hope this job is everything you want it to be.

Annie - you must be living in the driest place on earth or maybe Indy is a sister city to Duluth, MN because the news keeps featuring that city on it's small filler bits of news. Yesterday they showed one enterprising paint company which is painting the brown strawlike lawns green - particularly at homes which are for sale to improve the curb appeal. The guy said it doesn't hurt the lawn and once it starts to grow out, it will just grow out and get mowed - just like our hair  Someone was just talking about pumpkin growing and how this weather was stressing them but I can't remember the specifics because I don't have a big enough plot to grow pumpkins and am not the fan of eating them that Shad is.

It's still raining on and off which is good - we'll get a good soaking which is what we need. The rain washed air smells nice too.

Guess I'd better get dressed and get a move on here. Will catch up with the other chicks post later when they mosey on in...

ceejay52 07-17-2012 01:19 PM

I'm leaving in the morning to drive home. More later.

Laura705 07-17-2012 01:58 PM

Afternoon everyone. Had two meetings that filled the morning. Another meeting coming up. Nothing much to report from here - hot as hades outside. No rain.

Ceejay - Have a safe drive home!

Happy - I liked your previous avatar and this one as well. This one looks so refreshing! I'll have to try that hairstyler site to see what might suit me. Bf is looking for new eyeglass frames and one of the sites he was on does the same thing. The salsa sounded delish. I get 4 weeks of vacation but I've never used more than 2 weeks at once. I could probably swing it (i.e., using more) if the timing were right.

Michelle - Hope Day 2 is going as well as Day 1 did. Our company doesn't really have orientation as much as a morning of completing paperwork.

Mel - Hope it's another nice day for you weatherwise - sure hope our heat doesn't end up out by you. Doggy already has med insurance, but we don't pay extra premium for the grooming/preventive types of services. Only the adequan injection will be covered...

Shad - Interesting about using caffeine to get Sophia's breathing regulated...if I understood that correctly.

Annie - If the Rose of Sharon survives this drought, no doubt about it eventually filling in your fence!

Java - How's the paleo diet going? Is it for you??

Hellos to Ellen and Patty!!:dizzy:
===
Still nothing to report. I figured as long as we're straining the old pursestrings we may as well get the car in for its major servicing. Actually the brakes on one side are making a rubbing sound when applied, so it needs to get looke at. Tomorrow is the day.

Crap, time for my meeting!! Off I go.

upswife 07-17-2012 02:18 PM

Aftroon chicks! not much to report here, hotter then ever...heading out to my moms this afternoon and de-bugging the kids computer. Will also prob cut my sister's hair as it is really long and kinda dead. My SIL is coming over on Thursday to wash cloths and I willuse her for motivation to go thru clothes. have to get roling have a great night!!!

Shad 07-17-2012 05:28 PM

And the good news is:

Sophia is out of ICU and back in the special care neo natal unit at the hospital. She is beginning to take milk from the breast but hasn't got the sucking bit down pat yet. Hoping to take her home next week.

According to her doting dad, she is smiling and adorable. I'm sure he thinks she will be talking and walking by next week. Must have been the coffee that did it.

happy2bme 07-17-2012 07:04 PM

Oh Shad you're TOO funny

annie175 07-17-2012 07:43 PM

Good Evening All....

Took dinner to dad's house tonight. Curtis and my brother met me over there. Fried chicken, mashed taters, gravy and slaw. All fattening but very good. I picked the skin off one chicken leg and ate only the meat. Very little.

We actually got a bit of rain tonight. About 17 minutes worth. Barely made the ground wet. Better than nothing I guess.

Too tired for personals, going to kick back on the couch for a bit then hit the hay. This whole not sleeping at nite then when I do get to sleep, Curtis gets up at 4 to go to work, and being the lite sleeper that I am, I go ahead and get up with him. Ding dong dora, that's me.

Sleep well, good morning Shaddie. BTW...when Sophia smiles it is only gas, they do not smile that early.....poor DS, he has a lot to learn about raising a girl, much more stressful than a boy IMO. lol

Hugs,

MELODY525 07-18-2012 07:12 AM

Back to late again. Still running, but at least I am getting somewhere at the moment.

Hopefully back with a full wrap up of the days news tomorrow.

diyana 07-18-2012 07:50 AM

Good morning ladies -

Day 2 of orientation went well yesterday. It was just a half-day at one of the hospital sites, and then I went to my worksite and was shown my cube and got my email and voicemail set up. I'm already scheduled for a few meetings and lunch today with my boss (what the heck am I going to talk with him about for two hours)?

It just started thundering. I hope we get some rain out of this. :crossed: We had two very hot days Monday and Tuesday...today will be cooler. :yay: DH is on his way to work and said that a mile south of our house it's pouring. If only it would work it's way up here.

===================
Shad - I'm so glad to hear that Sophia is breathing better, out of ICU and even taking milk from the breast.

Happy - Bummer that your retirement service centers are not doing what they're supposed to do. :( I loved the garden harvest face photo! too cute!

Laura - Good idea to get the car serviced, especially when your brakes are making noise. I took the pups to the vet last Friday and checkups, blood tests and booster shots for all three was over $400, but the good news is that all their blood tests came back normal.

Ceejay - I hope you had a great time in PF!! Safe travels!

Mel - rest up and stay indoors in the A/C. That heat is nothing to mess around with.

 to Ellen and Java!

I'd better sign off....gotta finish getting ready and DH said the roads are pretty slippery.

Oh, before I forget, my new company has a VERY STRICT internet policy and they do track/log everything...so no posting from work unless it's on my phone.

Much love and many hugs to all,

Laura705 07-18-2012 10:22 AM

Morning all.

Michelle - Hope you get some rain. We may get some overnight...we'll see. I'm sure you'll find something to talk about with the boss at lunch. I might be getting ripped off at the vet, seeing as you paid less for 3 dogs than I did for just one, but on the other hand, we did buy over a year's worth of one med, and nearly of year of another, and had things done other than the exam and bloodwork.

Shad - Sophia walking and talking by next week, LOL. Too funny.

Mel - My meeting went fine, thanks. Hope you feel better today!!

Annie - One of the dinner options suggested by bf yesterday was popeye's chicken, which I really like, but I wasn't in the mood for anything fried.

Ellen - Hope you got the computer de-bugged. I'm soooo glad bf takes care of all that on our computers at home.

Hellos to Happy, Ceejay & Patty. :) :) :)

Nuttin' much to report. I skipped the movies last night. My neighbor was out when I arrived home (a rarity), so we chatted for a while in the crazy heat. Had to take a shower after sweating outside like that. Dinner was Lou Malnati's pizza.

The train lost AC and some other power with about 15 min. left of the ride this morning. Wasn't too horrible, but it became uncomfortable. Then they warned us that they'd have to manually open the train doors when we got to the station and it might take some time to do, so psychologically, that made it all the worse. And since I was already too warm getting off the train, by the time I completed my walk to the office, I was really warm. Have my tiny desktop fan running right now.

That's about all. TTFN!

happy2bme 07-18-2012 01:32 PM

Good morning ladies,

It's a nice cool day out there. I wanted to go check out the walking paths but there are bad storms moving in and I don't think it's a good idea to be out in the trees during a bad thunderstorm and according to all the red on the radar, we'll get a doozy. I could have gone an hour ago and been back already but out here you can't trust the weather people and the most accurate forecast is a combination of the radar and sticking your head outside. ::^: It looks like L.B. is gone. :( Not sure if he decided to venture out in the world or if something got him. DH said usually if a fox got him there'd be some evidence. He's about half the size of the other bunnies we've seen in the yard so he's still a young one. I did get 6 boxes cleaned out in the garage yesterday. Found my new hiking boots so I can start to break them in. Also found my everyday serving platters I've been missing. I'm sure there's more treasures yet to be found but the elusive cord to connect the controller to the telescope is still missing. DH packed that somewhere. He was just about to go out and do some yardwork but I keep hearing distant thunder. Guess I just have to force nature's hand and go out there myself

Laura - between getting the cat's teeth cleaned, shots, meds and who knows what else, the vet bills generally ran into the hundreds of dollars. More than a kid  But totally worth it, I'm sure you'll agree. Yuck on getting stuck in the stuffy train car, yum on the Lou Malnati's pizza I think there's a place that ships them out but they want something like 80 bucks for a medium pizza - I'm sure alot of the cost is in the flash freeze shipping. I'd love a good pizza but that's too much even for my budget - so consider what a bargain you are getting

Michelle - glad you are enjoying the job so far. Bummer that you won't be able to post but I think that's actually a very good Internet policy for the company. Besides as more and more people get smart phones, most use that anyway to circumvent the blocking. Hope you have a good lunch. This will be a good indication of how the manager is - does he draw you into conversation? Was it a one on one or did they bring a few team members where you just sit and nod and smile and hope you don't spill anything on your shirt :D

Ceejay - safe travels, we await your return and tales of all the fun you had.

Mel - sorry to hear you are sick but I find that comes with the sticky weather - no real food you can pin as the culprit. Stay inside, eat cool and fresh and light. If I was to be a pioneer woman, I'd want to be one in California where I could pick the fresh vegetables all year round. I am already fretting over our short growing season here.

I have a few grape tomatoes about to turn and one tomato which is turning quickly. A couple of cucumbers growing nicely. I have tomatoes on the plants but they are small for the most part. Our weather is holding in the 80's and things grow slowly. When we hit the 90s the last 2 days, things just hit a growth spurt. We'll see how it goes. We have the capability to tent / greenhouse the garden to extend the growing season a bit so I could consider some late season radishes, lettuce and beans but the thing I want most is the tomatoes and when the sun light cuts back and the temps get cooler at night, they just don't ripen that well. Good thing I have bright inside sunny south facing windows to ripen them if I have to.

Ellen - will you give me a cut and color too? I tip well

Annie - kiss C goodbye in the morning and roll over and get a bit more sleep. You are sure running on empty. ;) Sorry you only got a spritz of rain. Watch, the fall will be a deluge. Crazy weather. I'm sure Dad appreciated the comfort meal.

If a baby smiles when they have gas, how come we grimace when we do it? Unless we are teenage boys who think tooting is hilarious.

Ok, I need to get a move on and finish up here and then go put some stuff away. Later kids.

happy2bme 07-18-2012 01:35 PM

They have a new movie coming out August 10 with Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones as an older couple trying to recapture the spark in their marriage. Has Steve Carrel ( :barf: ) as the marriage counselor but it looks like it will be funny. Aren't too many movies I actually think would be worthwhile to see.

On another note DH took off on the ATV to go to the back and start tree trimming. Wasn't out there 10 minutes when it started sprinkling. I just knew it. I'm guessing he'll keep working as long as there's not thunder but it sounds like it's starting to rain harder.

ceejay52 07-18-2012 06:02 PM

I'm back home. Had a very good and safe and rain free drive. Followed my nose back home. Starting at Pigeon Forge, Knoxsville, Nashville, Jackson, then I had to take the Memphis routes to get myself back to Interstate 55. It's taken around 7 hours so it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Came home and an awful smell hit my nose. Still can't find it. I've checked the fridge, but opened a window to let this stinch out of here
We had a good visit but those younger ones wore me out with activities. The most exciting thing is that some of us were woke up early Monday morning by loud noises. It was a mother bear with three cubs raiding the garbage bins. To top it off they were supposed to be bear proof.. My bil made a video and has posted it to FB.
The one thing I liked was the trail ride. My horses name was Penny. She kept bumping into my nephew's horse.
My sister's kids spoiled me this week end. The cabin spoiled me. I didn't want to come home.
My back side is more than sore so I'll come back and post tomorrow.

diyana 07-19-2012 07:55 AM

Good morning ladies -

Lunch with the boss went well yesterday. We just talked about our families, etc., all non-work related stuff. And as Happy mentioned, he did ask me good questions and drew me into the conversation. He's on vacation for the rest of this week and all of next week, but before he left yesterday, I had him sign some forms to get me the proper access to the data and applications I'll need. He had submitted forms before I started, but as with any big company, these things take time.

Today, hopefully, I'll have more access so I can get started on the projects assigned to me. Looks like I'll be learning how to do a lot that I haven't ever done...so that's very exciting! :D

Last night, we had two marvelous thunderstorms and each one lasted an hour or more. My doggie Mischief didn't appreciate the thunder, but the lawns and gardens are definitely happy. :) And I don't have to water today. The back lawn, which has a lot more shade is nearly all greened up again. The shady spots of the front lawn are green, and the rest still has a way to go yet. I hope Mother Nature keeps that lovely rain coming (in safe moderation of course).

===========================

Laura - We found the vet bills here to be a lot less than in California, and I'm sure they're less than the Chicago metro area. And we didn't get any meds. Mischief's meds cost a few hundred dollars every couple months, but she's worth it. Nice that you were able to chat with your neighbor. And I love Lou Malnati's pizza. You have my mouth watering. How does the ThunderShirt work for Coal? I'm thinking maybe we should get one for Mischief. Bummer about the training losing AC and electricity to the doors. That had to be uncomfortable. I think next week or tomorrow, I'll bring items to my cube (like my fan, a calendar, etc.).

Happy - I hope the storms you got weren't too bad, but that you got any needed rain. As for the radar being accurate...only sometimes. We often have thunderstorms pop up without warning when there's not a cloud in the sky (called "pop-up storms" down here), and just as often we see huge storm fronts move through on the radar, and then when they get about a mile away they either vanish or split and hit north and south of us. :dunno: Sorry to hear the L.B. is gone. I hope he's safe and happy wherever he is. Good for you for making great progress in the garage! I really need to a :buttkick: to get my rear in gear on decluttering. Lou Malnati's does ship pizzas...and they are more expensive...but not horribly so. As for using smart phones to access the internet...during orientation, they said we should limit our phone usage...plus in my building I don't get great signal unless I stand in the ground floor lobby, which many people do on their breaks.

Ceejay - Welcome home! glad you had a great time in PF! I love horseback riding, but haven't done it in years.

Mel - So nice that Jen and Richie are back home and the kids will be heading back to Florida soon.

Annie - I hope you got more sleep last night.

Shad - How are things at the mines?

Ellen - Anything new with the family?

Java - I hope the Paleo diet is going well.

Time to get dressed and ready for work.

Love and hugs to all,

Laura705 07-19-2012 11:37 AM

Morning all.

Michelle - Glad the lunch w/ the boss went well. Hope you enjoy the new challenges that await you! We have mixed results with the Thundershirt. It's not the easiest thing to put on doggy because the velcro can attach when you don't want it to, and I'm sure the sound of it isn't all that pleasant to him. Bf has more trouble than me with it, so yesterday before he left the house (to use up some Kohl's cash before we forgot about it!), we'd agreed he'd leave and then I'd put the shirt on Coal. So I was in another part of the house when I assumed bf was leaving, but the next thing I know, he's tried and failed to put the shirt on Coal. So when I offer a few pieces of kibble to help dress him in it, he wants nothing to do with me or the kibble. Grrrr. So Coal didn't wear the thundershirt, but he did just fine all night. I think it was because we were with him and we didn't have any tv channels tuned that have those nasty sounds they make when they're doing the storm alerts - those can be so obnoxious sounding, but I guess they do the job...

Mel - We also had storms and a LOT of power outages, and thankfully we weren't affected. No problems on the train this morning either!! Richie should be happy to have the kids and Jen with him this weekend. Is it a big do with his side of the family?

Ceejay - Glad you had a good drive home with no bad weather to deal with. Bf helped his friend locate 7 negotiate the purchase of a special car for his friend to give to his wife for their wedding anniversary (nice gift, huh?) and his friend was driving it back from a car dealership in Ohio when a hailstorm hit!! What bad timing, but luckily there was no hail damage to the car. It's now safe and sound in our garage waiting a day or two for the optimum time for the friend to present it to his wife.....Anyways, it sounds like you had a thoroughly enjoyable vacation, with adventures and spoiling and horses. :) Hope you found the source of the stink.

Happy - I suppose it's probably pretty exciting to be finding some "lost" items when you go through your boxes, lol. I sure hope the cord for the telescope gets found soon. Like bf's cell phone headset, it's not truly lost, but just waiting to be unpacked. Oy, that's a lot of $$ for pizza. And so it might be a good excuse to experiment with pizza making, or having your visitors pack some up and bring them to you! My mom loved egg foo yung (sp?) from a certain place in Chicago, but doesn't care for the way they do it out by her so she's tried her hand at making it herself...and we've also brought some to her on visits. Yeh, I've seen the tv ads for the Meryl Streep & Tommy Lee Jones movies - looks cute. Hope it won't be too sappy and silly. I enjoy TLJ in movies, but I've heard the media types who do celeb interviews (when they hype their movies) say that TLJ is horrible to interview - difficult and unresponsive. He obviously doesn't like that part of his job...

Shad - Hope your final days of the mine assignment are bearable and that the thought of having some time off to spend with family is helping you muddle through.

Hellos to Annie, Ellen, Patty & Java. :dizzy: ;)

===
Other than the storms, nothing exciting to report. Bf ended up using Kohl's cash, a Kohl's gift card (purchased from credit card points program) and $12 cash to buy himself a nice clipper/trimmer for his new short hairdo. (Expect him to change his mind about the hairdo and/or DIY clipping tomorrow, next week or next month, lol.)

It's been a week since my bike crash. Good movement with my fingers, but still a wee bit swollen and a bit sore. Not bad for one week post-crash though. My left leg is still very bruised - nice and ugly with a variety of yellow, purple, black, blue. Shorts ban still in effect.

Speaking of shorts - I see all these people walking downtown, presumably to jobs (because it's early morning, too early for the tourists) and I have to wonder what kinds of jobs in offices allow them to dress this way. And then one of them - a girl in rather short cutoffs and sneakers - is on the elevator with me and going to one of our floors. Huh. Not very professional IMO.

That's about it. TTFN.

happy2bme 07-19-2012 12:09 PM

Morning kids,

DH had an early morning doctor's appointment and he's still not back yet. Makes me wonder what's going on. He has been having issues with his heart racing at night. Also with swelling in the feet, however I have discovered that while he is on a diuretic, he is not drinking hardly any water at all which is NOT GOOD :nono: He will get the results of his blood tests and heart monitor today so I wonder if in addition to the general doctor he is also seeing the cardiologist. Guess I'm just happy I didn't get a call from him that they admitted him to the hospital. :hyper:

It's a cool morning but the days are about to get warmer. I need to go to the grocery store - not feeling like it but I think it would be better to go today than on the weekend when all the extra folks will be in town stocking up. Nuttin' much else new on my side of the fence...

Laura - I think anyone who looks at Tommy Lee Jones and DOESN'T think he can be a curmudgeon is just ignoring the obvious  Yes, I could imagine he digs his heels in the sand. I think the movie would be funny because probably 50 percent of the older crowd I know fits into the stereotypes in that movie and nothing is funnier than the truth  My DH has one of those clippers - got tired of the barber cutting one side of his head longer than the other. I had to convince him to not cut it so short (think Travolta now). Older guys just don't look good with 1/16 of an inch long hair. Don't care if they say it's all about being easy to take care of. Suffer like us. But you never know, he may like it. Sounds like you really banged the heck out of yourself in your fall. Ouch! I say go in shorts - you'll get alot of sympathy. People are more accepting of bruises than fat  Had to smile at your comment on how people are dressing to go to work. I stopped working downtown in 1998 and at that time I was flat out astounded by how people dressed for professional jobs. I am old enough to remember when they came out with the concept of casual Fridays in the office. Heck were were glad to have a day when we didn't have to wear a suit. But it just spiraled out of control after that. I always dressed nice for work. Not fancy but nice. I think it makes you look more polished and professional. I had to laugh when I had a boss who ragged on people about having a messy desk top yet she only had about 8 shirts and 4 pairs of pants. Work clothes were a tunic top and stretchy pants and most times her hair was in a pony tail because as she said "she was too lazy to comb her hair in the morning". But she considered herself dressed up because she always wore lipstick   One of the other managers wore capri pants, t-shirts and casual slide shoes and made no effort to cover up the many bad tatoos she had. People have taken the "you can't tell me anything" and so what :dunno: way too far. And they get away with it. Sorry :^: ... that's just a hot button for me and reason number 17 why I'm glad I'm done with the corporate environment.

Glad to hear you guys got some rain finally. Now push some over to Annie.

Michelle - glad you had a good lunch with the boss. One of the good things about starting a new job is the ability to get enthusiastic about some new stuff. Hope that feeling stays for a long, long time. Call me a fuddy duddy but I also think it's kind of good that the cell phones don't work too well in the office. People are used to always being "plugged in" and I've seen more and more people sitting in meetings and checking their phones instead of paying attention and being courteous.

Ceejay - glad you had a good trip. I saw the bear video on FB and my heart was in my mouth. :yikes: that is probably the MOST DANGEROUS situation one can be in - a mom with cubs. I was hoping the person taking the video was inside and not standing on the porch. The bears sure did make a mess and I'm sure they were back more than once.

Mel - so it sounds like Jen takes the kids to the trailer while Ritchie stays back and works? That's a pity that he doesn't get to spend much time with them. Even bigger pity that Jen is stuck. Hope they mind her. Yikes, it always makes me nervous when I hear the power goes out in NY with all those buildings with elevators :yikes: Glad you were not affected. I imagine you must get some great views looking across the river at lightning over the skyline.

Ah well I think it's time to find something to eat. Hello to the rest of the chicks. Check back later...

1day@atime 07-19-2012 10:06 PM

Hello Ladies,

Another busy week...

Ceejay - so glad you enjoyed your vacation. Now back to the reality.

Happy - hope all is well with your hubby. I hope you made it to the grocery store. I try to do my shopping early on saturdays, to beat the crowd and to get a better selection of veggies.

Laura - Oh, I can relate about no a/c on the train. Wednesday afternoon the a/c was not running at full force.. I got overheated. Thank goodness your friends vehicle didn't get any hail damage. ABout a month ago some areas got hit with BIG Hail.. it's hard to find a rental car because of that.

Michelle - glad to hear the job is going well...Also glad to hear puppydogs are good.

Mel - so glad you didn't lose power. I saw the news and they stated you all had ... oh can't remember the amount, but lots of lightning strikes.

Shad - Yea Sophia is out of ICU, what great news!

Annie - praying for rain for you all. I see the news where they are already talking about higher prices for food. Here in Texas, lots of farms are selling the cattle, so beef prices will be low for now, but then up the next two years. Reason, we had a drought last year, grass died.. whatever is growing now, cows aren't eating... (I never knew they would know the difference)... anyway that's what i heard on the news..

for me busy week, had my root canal today... yeah finished with that. Looking forward to weekend.. I have got to start working out....

ceejay52 07-19-2012 10:10 PM

Happy
Bil was in their bedroom when he made the video. I wanted to see a bear while on this trip. The video was close enough for me. My sis called me out on the deck before I left and she said look the bear has been here again. Their were two garbage bins on the street below us that had been raided.

Michelle
Hope things have gone well the first week at your new job. Glad their was some one on one time before the boss left for vacation.

Mel
Hope we get some more rain. We got a shower this afternoon but not enough. Glad that Jen and the girls are back home.
This summer is flying by.

Laura, Shad, and Ellen,

diyana 07-20-2012 08:43 AM

Good morning ladies -

This will be a quick post for me as I want to get a couple things done around the house before I leave for work. I am going into work late today as I volunteered to work until 7 or 8 tonight to learn from the IT staff how to push new code into production as that will eventually be my responsibility. And since code pushes only happen every month or two, no time like the present to learn.

I wanted to get up earlier than I did to get, but I had bad allergies yesterday and last night, so I took an allergy pill and was too groggy to get up as early as I wanted to. :( I'll still get a couple things checked off the list, better than nothing I guess. On Saturday evening, we're probably going to go to Festa Italiana to take in some Italian singers, dancers and some awesome fireworks. During the day on Saturday, I'll be decluttering. I've got to get a lot out of here so we can make room for when DMIL brings her furniture here in September.

We got a nasty note from our temporary mail carrier (while our carrier is on vacation I guess). Our mailbox is too short (as in not high enough off the road), it's not painted properly, we need a bigger mailbox because we get magazines...blah, blah, blah. I'm tempted to go to the post office and say "Really?". Our mailbox is the same height as the others on our street. We've lived here for 9 years and it hasn't gotten any shorter. And it's painted, etc. Our full time carrier never complains. What a :censored: . :tantrum:

==================

Laura - Thanks for the review of the Thundershirts. Mischief does pretty well when we're there with her, unless the storms are REALLY loud. Good for bf for remembering to use the Kohl's cash. I frequently forget to use mine. I hope your injuries/bruises continue to heal. Hopefully those people in shorts change their clothes once they get to the office. Most offices here are business casual...but you still have to look somewhat professional.

Happy - I hope DH's appointment went well. I hope everything is okay...and tell him that he'd better drink more water...or Shad or Mel will get the cattle prod.

Ceejay - I'm so glad you had a nice trip. I didn't see the bear video, but I'll check it out this weekend.

Patty - I hope your feeling better after the root canal. I need to start working out too. DMIL will be at our house next week (this week she was a her sister's place), so I can go to the gym after work. :)

I've got to get going if I'm going to accomplish any tidying before work. :)

 to Shad, Annie and Ellen!

Much love and hugs to all,

annie175 07-20-2012 08:55 AM

TGIF FO SHO!!!!

So glad it is Friday!! YEAH!! First week of eating healthy wrapping up tomorrow. Down 4 lbs. 16 more to go! Only two glasses of wine the entire week. Yes that is fabulous for me as I usually have wine EVERY night. I have been counting calories and staying away from starch/breads/sugars for the most part. Protein, veggies and fruit. Mostly veggies due to the gardens of many. I can actually I feel better too.

Stopped by dad's for a few minutes on the way to work. Took him two zucchini and several pieces of zucchini bread with cream cheese icing on it. He was thrilled and started eating the bread before I even left the house. lol. Sometimes he is just too cute.

Sissy and I took lil man for his 9 month pictures last night. They were all good and he just smiled and talked through the entire thing. It was awful picking out the pictures then deciding which sizes of each we wanted. He was so good.

We have had very scattered showers the past several days. Everyone is excited about it. I have not had to water my garden for 3 nights. We are still in a drought and an hour after it rains the ground is dry again. But hey, we will take whatever the Man gives us.

CEEG...glad you made it back from your trip safe and sound. And that you had a wonderful time and was spoiled by all. Lucky duck. I am always tired out when I get back from vacations too. Then you have to do all the laundry stuff. That is cool about the bears, glad you weren't their dinner.

HAPPY...how is DH? What did the doc have to say? The swelling of the feet does not sound good. Seems like men always have to be nagged into doing what they are supposed to do...i.e. drinking more water. I have to get on my dad all the time about that. I try to do my grocery shopping on my lunch hours to avoid evening and weekend crowds. We have fridge in the breakroom that we use to store until go home time. In the winter it is much easier as it is cold enough we just leave our groceries in the trunk.

LAURA....healing of bruises take a LOT of time. Even when they look better on the outside, the inside can still be a mess and sore. When I fell back in May when I was in training in Louisville, my fat celluitis thigh is still sore. There is a slight light blue area there. Barely visable, but sometimes hurts to lay on that side and sleep. I heard it can take up to 6 mos to completely heal. I also want to see that movie. May do that in the next few weeks. Since we do not have management in our office, we wear flip flops on Fridays with our jeans. Today I have on black capris, hot pink shirt and pink flip flops. Too sexy for my shorts....lol

CHELLE...the end of week one of the dream job. Glad to hear the meeting with your new boss went well and all is good. I am so stinkin' happy for you. Tell DMIL I went to 1/2 price bookstore and got a bunch of paperbacks for a buck a piece. She just has to wait till I read them. bummer!

MELLIE..MELLIE....so glad Jen is home. WHen do the kids go back? The kids here go back to school August 1st. That is just ridiculous. They are starting the year round thing in our district. It is too stinkin' hot for kids to be in school. Why not just do the out at memorial day and back after labor day like we did. I cannot see all that all these extra days in school is making the kids any smarter. Just the opposite. And by golly whip their arses if they need it. Ok, done with that rant. Hope you are feeling much better and out of the loo. I sometimes think you and I need a portable loo to carry in our purses. lol

SHADLET.....are you home yet? Done with the mines yet? Just a few more days till you get to see that sweet lil grandbabe. It is overwhelming the love you will feel for her. I just look a lil man and melt.

ELLEN...sending energy to you so you can keep up with the kidlets, house, and job. Not to mention momma too! Hugs.

PATTY...didn't Texas have an over abundance of rain last month or so. Unusual for Texas. I know my BF in Corpus even got lots of rain. Animals are funny creatures in the things they sense/know. More to cows than we thought. lol.

Hi ya JAVA....hope all is good in your neck of the woods.

Gotta get my bunz busy....may leave early today to get some stuff done.

Have a marvelous day/night to all.

Loves and hugs,

annie175 07-20-2012 09:00 AM

MELLIE and CHELLE are my sneaker inners....

MELLIE...so sorry to hear of Jen's fall. We must be the clumsiest worldlies around. LOL. Hope all is good and she is ok. Keep us posted.

CHELLE...Glad you are having fun at work and you are learning lots. Want me to come help you declutter. It is real easy, I just sit everything out to the curb, either scavengers take it or the trash pick up gets it. haha.

Have a great day ladies. Love yas.

Laura705 07-20-2012 10:59 AM

Morning all. TGIF!! :carrot:

Annie – Glad you’ve gotten a bit of rain this week. It’s nice not to have to water every day. :) But now I have some weeding to do in the veg patch tomorrow. I think it must have rained some more overnight because the soil still looked very moist today. Hope the ground isn’t too wet to work in tomorrow – I hate when it turns into muddy clumps. Then again, the weeds should come out easier. Glad little guy did well with the photo-taking.

Michelle – Oh, Festa Italiana sounds great. Enjoy yourselves! Glad the mail carrier is only a temp – he sounds like a real jerk.

Mel – Sorry to hear about Jen’s fall. Wow, emergency room – I hope it wasn’t too bad!

Ceejay – Just knowing raccoons and skunks are around is bad enough for me. I’d feel really nervous knowing there was a bear so nearby.

Patty – Hope there are no ill effects from the root canal and you can enjoy your weekend. Yeh, I need to get back to working out too. We all do – right gals??? :D

Happy – I hope dh’s doc appointment went well and that the doc read him the riot act about drinking more water. Did you get your shopping done? I try to avoid that on the weekends, but when I do go, it’s usually not “prime time” anyway. Re dressing for work – we’re business casual all the time now, and to me that means dress slacks and a nice top. On Fridays though I’ll dress down a bit more and wear khakis and a more casual top. I was on vacation the latter part of the week of the 4th, but I’m surprised I didn’t see an e-mail go out allowing people to wear casual clothes because of the extreme heat…they did that once, but maybe that was back before we went to business casual attire. Some people take business casual way too far and they really don’t have any further to go to get to casual. My pet peeve used to be the footwear because I was just waiting for some idiot wearing flimsy high heeled sandals to take a fall and call it a work comp claim – when open-back shoes were technically not allowed. I still think they’re dumb, but I do wear slides sometimes in the summer.

Hi Shad, Hi Ellen, Hi Java!
===
Being boring again – nothing to report. Or nothing exciting anyway. The cost of the base car servicing itself wasn’t as bad as I’d thought, but the three issues that need to be fixed are. Bf thought we might save money if we found a non-dealer mechanic and sourced the parts ourselves, but ultimately we decided to have the dealer do all the work. Honestly, it’s tough to find a good, honest mechanic, and the one issue, a front end thing sounds rather complex, so we’d rather have the dealer do the work. I was joking with bf that hopefully the car will still be worth something by the time it’s paid off in December. Actually, we've have very little in terms of repairs to this car since we bought it in '08, so we should be grateful for that.

Today I’m leaving the office early to meet my friend down by Navy Pier. She’s got a drinks/appetizer cruise to attend with her industry group and asked me to accompany her. Should be fun. It’s kind of cloudy right now, but I hear it’s supposed to clear up later today. :crossed:

I think that's all I've got in terms of weekend plans. I do need to get into the veg patch with the garden claw and remove some weeds. A couple of cherry tomatoes are finally starting to ripen, we've got some serrano peppers almost ready to harvest...it'll be a while yet for the Early Girl tomatoes and the orange bell peppers.

Okay, just rambling now, so I'll post and get back to work. TTFN!

happy2bme 07-20-2012 11:45 AM

Morning all,

Here's my Early Girl Tomatoes - just waiting a few more days before I pluck 'em and eat 'em

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e6...Vine072012.jpg

I already had 2 of these grape tomatoes and they were so good I'd almost take up camp and live in the garden if it wasn't for the pesky buzzing deer flies

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e6...vine072012.jpg

And I'm just waiting on this yummy cucumber - how do you know when it's the right time to pick it off the vine?

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e6...vine072012.jpg

ceejay52 07-20-2012 12:00 PM

Happy
It's more than ready to pick. I like mine smaller than this.

------
Can I ask how to upload a picture. I want to post the video of the bear?!!!!

annie175 07-20-2012 12:01 PM

Happy....you know when it is the right time when you cannot wait any longer to eat it. It looks ready now or you can let it grow some more if you want. Your tomatos look yummy. I picked two yellow tomatos last night...YUM. I have zucchini coming out my arse.

Laura..the Navy pier drinks and appetizers sounds like a blast. I like that kind of stuff. Have a blast!!

happy2bme 07-20-2012 03:57 PM

Ceejay - I don't think you can post a video on 3FC. So I grabbed a still shot from your video of FB of the momma and baby bear and am posting it here. I use one of the free picture hosting sites like Flickr, Photobucket, Webshots and upload my pictures there. They provide the html (web code IMG tag) you can copy to insert into your post here which will display the picture on your entry.

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e6...re-CJsBear.jpg

Since I'm grabbing a shot from the video, I'm sorry I can't make this a bigger picture but I'm limited to the frame size on the video.

happy2bme 07-20-2012 05:43 PM

argh - I just did a long post of personals and my web page stuck. When I refreshed, I lost it. Be back later

Shad 07-20-2012 06:39 PM

Morning all,
Happy Saturday/ Friday whatever it is. Been working too hard to notice how the days go by. Only knew it was Friday yesterday because one of my blokes came to get me for the usual Friday BBQ. The Prep Plant puts on a bbq for the miners on Fridays and they don't stint either. There was burger buns, steak, sausages, bacon, eggs, onions, salad etc. The different areas take turns to cook and some of them are really good. You just have to say (once) "I like my steak rare and my egg yolks runny and my bacon crisp. and that is what you get. Mind you they might just be being polite and keeping me onside.

Other news. Sophia is out of ICU and in an open cot back in the neo natal unit and breathing on her own - much to her parents relief - although I do believe Mum is fretting because she can't take the baby home! Dad is much relieved. He didn't like her in ICU either. Can't blame them for that, although it was the place she needed to be at the time. Latest photo follows. I go down to Adelaide to see them on 5th August. Return 19th August and will need to look for work again sometime in September. No rush. I'd like some time off.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...o1/Sophia6.jpg

I'm staying at a place in the Hunter Valley for the next week of my contract called the Leisure Inn. Leisure is what it is all about. Restaurant doesn't open until 8.00am for breakfast. So it is lucky that I have cooking and food storage facilities. It's only open for dinner Wednesday to Saturday as well. Lucky I can cook hey! I really will have to get back into the exercise thing when I get home or I won't fit into anything shortly. I'm holding on to a size 16 by the skin of my teeth. This is a photo of the sunset across the lake which is just about outside my window in the unit.

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b118/gunbo1/046-1.jpg

Happy - your garden looks like it is growing so well. Might be a short growing season, but it certainly appears to be a successful one.

Annie - Your garden looked great to from the picture I saw. Glad you have such a happy lil man. Certainly helps after such a rocky beginning

Ellen - always so busy. With all those children around, its really no wonder. However they grow up so quickly and before you know it, they are ready for the outside world. Got to love them despite all the work and worry they cause.

Mel - Sorry to hear about Jen fallling. Poor girl. She has so little meat on those bones, it is going to hurt everytime. Are Richies kids getting that old. Well their growing up will mean less problems for him in the future. Although I guess he has a few more years of child support yet.

Michelle - Good to hear that you are enjoying you job so much. If we have to work, we might as well enjoy what we do. Hope you get all the coded down and dusted, although I always think that if it is only once a month or two, then it takes longer to get it down straight. Take good notes.

Laura - ouch on that fall as well. Hope the fingers are coming right now. My two dogs weren't big on thunderstorms, but as long as they were around their humans or inside the house they were fine. They didn't get upset about them, just a bit anxious.

Ceejay - how nice that you had a great time with the family. Haven't seen the video on facebook yet, but the photo Happy put up was interesting. Hope you have some more photos of the area for us to look at.

A recruiter rang me the other day, asking if he could put my resume (cv) out to a gold mining company. Sure I said but said that I wasn't available until September. Anyway he did and apparently they might be interested. They sent me this Skills Set page. Now normally I refuse to do skill sets - read my resume people - but I opened the attachment anyways. Geez - do they need some help with the skills set. I've never seen anything so stupid in my life. I'd attach it, but might be breaching privacy laws. I think the HR and the IT departments should revisit that one asap. I spoke to the recruiter about it. He said not to spend much time on it. I said I wouldn't because I am too busy for such idiocy. One of the criteria was:
Passport and... Next colums said Nice to Have...... then next column was Yes/no. My answer was Passport yes. And..... Possibly dependent on what the criteria might be.
Another was
Mining experience Must Have Yes/No... My answer? Majority of my contracts have been in mines and refineries. Do I dig coal - No

Better go shower and get dressed and decide what to do with the day. I need to get some more bread for sandwiches for the week and for toast with an egg from time to time. Counting down the days to home (7) and the days of work (4.5) and the days to end of contract (11 - including weekends) and the days to Adelaide (17).

That's it. Have a good Friday and a great weekend. I should be back tomorrow, but who knows. Some knight on a white charger might come and carry me away. Pigs might also fly

upswife 07-20-2012 09:26 PM

OK, ladies, just a short one from me today, but I should have some time to post personals tomorrow, either in the morning b4 work or at work in the evening. Everything has just been status quo around my house. The kids and I visited mom on Tuesday, DH also dropped by and we had dinner with the family. I was a duitiful daughter and drove mom to PT on Wednesday(to give my brother a break). I left the kiddies with instructions to clean the kitchen and vaccuum the front room and when I got home it was about half done. I was so tired and work out from the extremely high humidity that I let the kids run off to play with friends, so then after dinner on wednesday they were whining about having to finish the work so they got "disciplined" and managed to make it look half decent. Definitely not a "spare the rod" family. Thursday was low key, kids watched movies on Netflix or went to freinds houses. I picked my SIL up in the afternoon and we just visited. She needed a new pair of sneakers and I had an older pair that I barely ever wore cause they never fit correctly, and they fit her perfectly...so she got a practically brand new pair of New Balance shoes for nothing!! and I cleaned one item out of my closet!!

Today has been like every Friday, I paid some bills this morning, DH and I went over how much to save and how much to put towards groceries and Gas..Whoo hoo FUN FUN. After DH left for work I watched the New season opener for Project Runway! now I've been at work and am trying to appear to be working. Phones have been quiet. To be honest Quiet is good, hope today and tomorrow stay quiet...too tired to try to sell.

Ok, I need to get moving and start following the shut down proceedures and walk thrus. Hope everyone has a Great Saturday/Sunday!!

ceejay52 07-20-2012 11:01 PM

Happy
Thanks for posting the picture. One of these day's I'll figure out how to do all of this.

Shad
Sophia looks like she is growing. Hope that she doesn't have to go back to ICU.

Ellen
I like quiet days at work also.

-----
Feeling a bit down in the dumps right now as I miss being around every one. I can't get back into the swing of things. Did make tilapia and broccoli slaw for dinner tonight so maybe the healthier eating is sticking.

happy2bme 07-21-2012 12:07 AM

Well hello there,

I hope I can make it through a post without fail. My laptop has been acting up lately. Can't really tell exactly what the problem is, I did run a registry cleaner and anti-virus sweep. I pretty much frequent the same websites - no porn or eye catching headlines so I don't think I've picked up a bug. Am running Internet Explorer so always hard to tell if that flakey browser is the issue. Anyway...

Yesterday's animal parade included 2 momma turkeys and 12 baby chicks strutting across the yard in search of bugs and seed. All we could offer them was seed because the bear apparently comes here nightly checking things out. DH put out a gold finch feeder and forgot to bring it in at night and the very next morning we found yet another shepard's hook hangar bent in half and the ports of the brand new feeder popped out and he tossed that one back like he was chugging down a shot. DH did not think he would like thistle seed and I said he's hungry, he will eat anything. I swear if DH puts anything else out I will beat him with it. Then 4 deer showed up at dusk and roamed thw yard while DH went awwwwww awwwww awwww - I wanna feed 'em. L.B. has returned, apparently he went out for an overnight trip somewhere. Just glad he wasn't a fox's meal. I think he has outgrown his pompas grass home - might be too big to comfortably get through the reeds as we often see him in other places in the yard.

DH did get his results from the doctor and he has atrial fibrulation just like my Mum. My sis said I should take them both and drop them off at the hospital and get them to room together and get everthing done at once. Oh yeah  But basically they will be getting the same treatment. DH is started on the anticoagulant. He is glad he has a reason not to eat brussel sprouts (not that I ever made him eat them) because they contain Vitamin K as well as leafy greens and vitamin K is a blood coagulant which would offset the coumadin he's taking. I just told him to be careful about running into things or cutting himself. His feet are swelling too so apparently he has some heart issues to deal with. A bit of a downer because we both had high hopes of better health out here. But the good news is that at least we have a diagnosis and can work to treatment.

I got a phone call today and have an interview next week for an office worker position. It's a funded by a grant for a community service center so it probably will be a temporary job but even if it's for a few months it will be some extra money. At least I got a call which is more than I can say for all the other applications I put in. :D

Ceejay - if you really want to know how to post pictures I guess I can write something up. Let me know. Sorry you are missing your family but I totally understand. When you have a good time you realize how nice it is to be around people you enjoy being with. Now aren't you glad you made the trip? Hope you can stick with the good eating plan. I need to follow your lead.

Shad - baby Sophia is so cute. So tiny and precious. I hope she is stable by the time you get out there so you can spend as much time as possible with her. Sounds as if you are eager to finish up this latest stint at work. I am so proud of you for sticking to your guns and refusing to dig coal  :lol3: :lol3: I hope something comes along for you and you are able to squeeze in a little time off - sounds like you need a bit of r and r time. I love that sunset picture you took! And ok, now that I've tasted it, I am a fan of rocket. :hungry: DH too.

Mel - I'm so sorry to hear about Jen. I hope she will be ok. I imagine as Shad says she has no padding to break her fall. Do let us know how she is doing. As for dressing, I'll just bet you look better than the ladies in the office = even if you were just in your jammies. Tell 'em to clean up their act

Laura - yes, you are right about finding a mechanic. When I had a '76 Firebird, I just took it down the street to the local mechanic to get it worked on and he did a great job. I did notice once I moved to the north suburbs, they were doing some teardowns at AH Road and Central and 2 of the teardowns were mechanic's garages. You probably are better off taking your car to the dealer - at least if they screw up they have to fix it. How is the hand doing? Did you get into the garden or saving it for this weekend? Hope you had a nice evening with your friends. Navy Pier is a great place for a summer's night. Not so good in winter tho

Annie - thank you for the garden advice. I think I'll be picking that cucumber this weekend. Can you settle a debate? I thought you were not supposed to have a cucumber sitting on the soil - it gave it a yellow spot and got bitter. DH thinks they grown laying on the ground so it doesn't matter. We always staked ours up the fence and off the ground. I hope you will be able to post a picture of Lil Man. I'm sure he is adorable - cooing and babbling now is he? This is the age I like them. Hope you get to spend some time with C this weekend and don't spend all of it working. Are you done with CVS? Except for baking that is

Ellen - it's good to hear you are holding your kids accountable for chores. Life is only going to get more demanding, they might as well figure that out in little dribs and drabs. It's nice you cut your bro a break and took Mom to PT. Is she doing ok?

Michelle - have fun this weekend at Fiesta time. Guess it's good with the timing that you were able to see a code push but boy oh boy - first week on the job and immersion time. Hope the terms make enough sense so you can take meaningful notes. I hate that period of adjustment learning so much new stuff. It's good you are thinking ahead to DMIL. Hopefully she is only bringing a few pieces of furniture like a favorite chair and some clothes. I know it would be hard to accomodate my Mom here - she could have her bed, dresser and recliner and that's about it. Unless we moved her to the Man Cave and Mel's already got dibs on that ;) Had to laugh about the mail carrier. We have types like that too. I say if you mailbox is too small then you just get crunched magazines  I did wonder how they decided the regulation height as ours is somewhere in between the ideal height for the sedan and the SUV. I imagine they figure out a system if they are good enough!

Patty - glad your root canal is over with. You make a good point about hitting up the store when they get the fresh deliveries. I should make a note of that too.

Getting sleepy here, maybe an early night. DH and I went to a new place for dinner. He wanted steak. It was ok but kind of pricey - certainly more than the local fish fry. He should have listened to me but I let him pick ;) I had one glass of wine - quite tasty and I think it's giving me the shut eye so I'll sign off for now.

Good Early Morning All...well way early...guess I will be awake when C gets up to go to work. Sleep is really overrated...that is the only comforting thought I can give myself.

HAPPY....Most cucumbers do grow near or on the ground and have a bit of yellow on the bottom side.....it does not affect the taste. Just pick it and eat it. I love love love cucumbers and that is the only thing not producing in my garden. I just hope the time comes that I am overwhelmed with cucumbers. As soon as the new pix come back of lil man I will certainly post them. Whenever I see him I say, "Nanna is here to see you" He just smiles and kicks his legs and flaps his arms. I love that little man.

SHADDIE....my God what a precious lil grandbabe, she is gorgeous. Babies are a weakness of mine and she is certainly getting to me. How adorable. Isn't it ridiculous the requirements needed even after they have read your resume. It is like they do not even read your resume. Oh, that is the requirement to take the test to even get hired...Grow some balls, go with your gut feeling on experience...it just honks me off. I feel your madness.

ELLEN...so proud of you for being the disaplined momma. Too many families let their kids run amuck and wonder why they are such disobidient children. I say, beat their arses if they need it. My kids certainly understood the conseequences.

CEEG...your dinner sounds yummy....do something just for you even if it is only a hot bubbly bath and a glass of wine to get your dumps out of the system.

I hear C in the shower so better post this and be the dutiful person that I am....hahaha....go back to bed when he goes to work.

Love and Hugs...

15 baby turkeys under the bedroom window this morning. How did I sleep through that???? You can only imagine how many there would have been had we been feeding them all along. Happy's Turkey Farm. But you can only look and pet them as I don't have the heart to kill them. I hear the wild ones are really tough anyway. They are too skittish to photograph but I'll keep trying.

upswife 07-21-2012 07:04 PM

Good afternoon ladies! Well, It started out busy today, then has slowed way down to a dead crawl. O’m ok with slow, in a little funk and don’t feel like taking calls. Made a bunch of outbound calls (follow ups) so it was not a total wasted day. Not much planned for this weekend. DH has to work all day tomorrow in Rockford and he forgot to tell me so I could take off, so my brother is going to watch the kids for us. Thank goodness I have family close enough that can help out when needed.

Mom is doing really well, I think…She had PT 3 days a week, but after her Session on Friday they talked and they are going to switch to 2 days a week so she has more time to recover in between. I will still try to help my brother out, but I work Monday and Friday so that makes it harder. I will just have to keep going over during the week to help him out. Still working on going thru clothes this week. I have a ton to get thru and my SIL is coming over Tuesday for Moral support.

Melody~I hope Jen does not have any fractures, but that is going to be a tough road, Sitting with her leg up and no pool. I would cry. Enjoy your cooler weather, I think I missed my chance with work getting in the way!

Annie~I so envy your garden, but I barely have time to weed and keep up with my small flower beds in front of the house, and this year, I just let them be Too much trouble to water everyday. Thanks for the kudos, I am trying to raise my kids so they are not spoiled brats. Some days I am succeeding others not so much…but overall I think we are in the right direction. How far are you from chicago? I can drive down and take that zuchinni off your hands!!

Happy~Prayers for your DH and Mum. Hope the treatments go well and the new drugs don’t wear them out. My SIL was on Coumadin for just a little while and it really wore her out. You gotta tell DH to stop putting feeders out, no wonder the bear keeps returning. I would totally be freaking out! For your laptop, I’ve had some good results with malwarebytes. If you google search you should beable to find some info.

Ceejay~so glad you made it home safe and happy from your trip. The bears are so close, if that is a problem there you would think they would have some preventative measures in place. You are doing such a great job eating healthy…I need to follw your lead and get back on the band wagon.

Shad~Whoo, hoo, you are closing in on the end of this contract. You so deserve a break after this is over. It will be so nice to be home then go see the new Grandbaby! Sophia is so cute. I love when they are so tiny…wish that stage would last longer. Didn’t see you post, did your Knight arrive and sweep you off your feet??

Laura~I agree , if you don’t have a mechanic you can trust just do the work at the dealership. Can be a big pain sometimes, but at least you know they are using the correct parts for your car. How was Navy Pier?? I havn’t been up there in a few years. Hope the cruise was nice.

Michelle~There is nothing like jumping in with Both feet. I hope you were able to learn a lot from the code push. How were the italian singers? It sounds like a fun time.
Patty~Hope your weekend was enjoyable to make up for having the root canal done! Were you able to take a break and relax or were you on the go all weekend?

Ok, time to get back to work, Only 2 hrs left…then 12 more tomorrow. Yay…will it ever end?? Am I too young to dream about retiring?

Good evening Worldlies.

Ellen - Sometimes it's nice to have some downtime at work. On Thursday afternoon I spent time organizing my desk. For most things I have desk files (file folders), but I had developed a pile of loose papers that I sorted through and have somewhat tamed. Nice your brother can watch the kids while both you and dh are at work. Actually, the dock for the boat we took for the cruise was just outside of Navy Pier proper, in a spot I didn't realize boats docked. And I wasn't the only one - some people had trouble finding the boat.

Happy - Wow, all those baby turkeys! Hope you can snap a photo for us, I'd like to see them. :) Well, at least your hub and your mother can compare notes on their treatments. I hope he does well on the anticoagulant (is that a blood thinner??) Good luck on your interview. I got out in the garden today and weeded the veggie patch. I finally planted some cilantro seeds, and after I watered everything doggy promptly walked all over where the seeds are planted. Good thing all the other veggie plants have cages around them. Your veggies look great. That cuke looked fabulous - please tell me you've picked it and enjoyed it by now! :D

Mel - An 8-12 week healing time sounds like Jen had a pretty bad fall. That's terrible. I hope she doesn't have any fractures. At this point boring sure sounds good for both of us!!

Annie - Did you go back to sleep after C left for work?? I sure hope so!!

Ceejay - Wow, that bear was really close to your lodging!! Scary! Sorry you've got the post-vacay blues. :(

Shad - Glad Sophia's out of the ICU. :) Very cute photo - she looks quite peaceful there. Nice sunset. Too bad you're on your own at your lodgings for breakfast and some of your dinners - how inconvenient. (shaking my head)

Hellos to Patty, Michelle & Java.
===

I left work at three yesterday and walked a few blocks to the bus stop. It was a gorgeous day - cooler than it's been, sunny and breezy. I was thoroughly enjoying people watching while I waited for the bus...but it took forever for mine to come, and then it was crammed, standing room only . Arrived with about 10 min. before scheduled departure, though the boat left about 10 minutes late actually.

What a lovely day for a cruise. We didn't go far - just a bit into the river (went through the locks twice) and then up and down the lakefront so as to enjoy the skyline. There was an open bar and a casual buffet with grilled sausage, beef & chicken for sandwiches and potato salad and coleslaw and cookies for dessert. Everyone was very nice, and D and I both enjoyed ourselves. D won a raffle and now can attend the local conference for her industry group for free.

Since bf had made plans to see friends, I decided to go with D to the casino and see our favorite local band again. I didnt' think she wanted to stay for the whole thing, but she surprised me and we stayed for the whole thing (I didn't care either way because it ended at midnight and my house is only about a 10-15 minute drive away from there.)

Lazed for a bit this morning, then got out and weeded the veg patch and planted the cilantro seeds.

Bf and I ate lunch and headed to the mall where he looked at eyeglass frames and I got my iphone's protective shield replaced (ghost armor - it does a great job, but after almost 2 years of it, I had one little spot with a gouge in the shield and then one of the corners started pulling up). Nice they replace it for only $5.

Stopped at the market for groceries and then back home. Oh, and we bought our spray bottle fan/misters!! :yay: Walked doggy and that's about it. Nothing planned for tonight. Tomorrow we'll have tacos for dinner.

Okay, I'll get this posted. Everyone enjoy the rest of your weekends!! :flow1::flow1::flow1::flow1:

GOOD MORNING CHICKLETTES:cofdate:

YESTERDAY WAS JUST TOO GORGEOUS.
I SAT OUTSIDE ON & OFF ALL DAY AND AGAIN AFTER DINNER.
AND........WAIT FOR IT............MOSTLY BY MYSELF!
I SAT CLOSE TO THE WALL & WHEN THE SENIORS LOOKED OUT THEY COULDN'T SEE ME.

I FORGOT TO SAY THE DR SAID THE GASTRO THING IS 99% A "FOREVER" THING.
DAMAGES ARE FROM FOODS, MEDS AND GOD KNOWS WHAT ELSE.
(like an ulcer in the intestine just outside the stomach)
SO A SOFTER BLANDER DIET IS THE PLAN. NO BULK EITHER.
I DEFINITELY WILL BE THE OLDEST GERBER BABY ALIVE NOW:bb:
NOTHINE ELSE NEW HERE. HAVE A GREAT DAY :moped:

HAPPY........OH.....HOW CUTE!! I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO SEE THEM PECKING AROUND.
I'VE HEARD THE SAME THING THAT THEY ARE A TOUGH LOT TO EAT.
BUT NOW THEY ARE FAMILY

ELLEN....GO AHEAD AND DREAM OF RETIREMENT! YOU DESERVE IT!
HOPE YOU ARE OUT OF THE FUNK AND HAPPY AGAIN.
GLAD MOM IS DOING BETTER. GOTTA BE TOUGH ON ALL OF YOU.
I AM GLAD YOU HAVE FAMILY CLOSE BY FOR EMERGENCIES AND SUPPORT!!
HAVE A NICE SUNDAY

LAURA....THE CRUISE SOUNDED GREAT AND THE NIGHT TIME TOO.
GOOD TO GET OUT AND ABOUT.
I THINK I NEED TO TAKE BACK THE BUBBLE WRAP FOR JENNIFER NOW.
OR MAYBE TAKLE HER TO THE MALL FOR GHOST ARMOR!!
HOPE YOU & BF HAVE A NICE WEEKEND:hug:
