  • Good morning chickies,

First of all Michelle wishing you and DH success on your procedures today. Hope all comes out well and you can rest the long weekend and get back to feeling tip top. That was smart of you to get up early so you could get something in your tummy. I guess the rules are a bit more relaxed when you don't have to have full on anesthesia so that's good. It's great that DMIL is there and settled in, ready to help you if you want it or not Will be sending you good thoughts! And congrats on the new niece in your life. Finally - you've got me jonesing for sloppy joes But I already spent too much at the grocery store so maybe next week when I'm tired of eating turkey, turkey, turkey. I hope the new meds work well for Mischief

Annie - it just wouldn't be a holiday without you in the kitchen making all kinds of goodies. Does this make a pie for each person at the table? I know - you are probably like me and like to give people some choices. How fun that you will be able to give Jake a bath. I'm sure he will love it although I have to say the idea of a tiny, slippery baby just freaks me out I think that baby stuff you bought is going to come in handy. And how nice that you can enjoy the holidays with your family instead of working 14 hour shifts! Have a great time with everyone.

Ceejay - good idea on the pedometer. I think when we can see something like the steps kick off, it's motivating to do a little more or go a little farther. Are you going to the uncles tomorrow? Are you guys catering lunch or doing a pot luck? We used to do a big departmental pot luck for Thanksgiving at work - I wonder if they did it this year. Always liked trying other people's dishes. Hope it's a nice lunch for you.

Mel - I'm kind of liking that house on the rock. Sure would be interesting, wouldn't it? Although seeing a storm rolling in across the sea might be a little scary. I just LOVED the picture of the deer and the snowman I showed it to DH. So we cut up some carrots and apples last night and put them out and guess what - they passed them up! Ate the corn but not the other stuff. We must have shy deer because we didn't see any but when the plumber came by this morning he said there were 6 does walking through the yard as he drove up. I had to laugh when you said you don't need to have Richies kids visiting you constantly - LOL - comes a point in time when kids are best enjoyed by younger people Is Jen going to decorate the main entrance again? 'bout that time to shake up the paint cans

Are we allowed to use the C holiday word now Shad? I would imagine early riser that you are that this schedule works out perfectly for you - get lots of personal stuff done in the morning and then trot into work to wrap up 4 hours worth of work in 4 hours rather than stretching 2 into 8. Probably a model of Japanese efficiency! I like Mel's swimming pond in Yarrabee except if it is full of sulfur or something. Mining must be a huge industry for the country.

Laura - can't imagine why you are getting the tingling unless you are a side sleeper and cutting off the circulation by laying on your limbs. Hope it clears up - that can be annoying. Regarding the trains in Memphis - something must have happened about 2 years ago whereby the engineers REALLY laid on the horns at each crossing. And for a long time. When we first moved to Memphis we were about 1/2 mile from the crossing and it was nice sound. The last year or so it got so loud that I could not leave the windows open at night as there are freight and coal trains that travel all night long and the horns would wake me up alot. But you get a train full of 80 coal cars and that will sure rumble the day lights out of anyone Same for some of the older buildings downtown that border the "L" cars as the trains go racing by. Guess it's like being in a high building like the Sears Tower on a windy day - the building sways and you just get used to your environment. Good thinking about the spiky shoe things. I might have to look into that. The problem with winter boots has been either you have good tred which isn't good for deep snow or you have a heel for some traction which isn't good on slick surfaces Somewhere in the garage I have a new pair of sturdy rugged lace up boots - Timberland I think. Better add that to the list of stuff I have to find rather quickly How was the movie? Hope Eddie Murphy did well - he used to be so funny in Beverly Hills Cop but his last few movies have been kinda duds. Are they starting to decorate downtown? Does Macy's do the tree in the Walnut room like Marshall Fields used to?

We are staying in for a quiet Thanksgiving - no different than the ones we have had for the last 6 years. My cousins are going to my other cousins who are about an hour away from them (long story there). I bought a turkey and will make all the fixins and some of my favorites. Today I'm going to try and go through the 7 wardrobe boxes of clothes that are making a not so attractive room divider between my living room and dining room. It's funny - everyone tells me I have the rest of my life to unpack yet DH is hinting that it would be really nice to be able to get both cars back in the garage before the snow falls again and we can't have anyone over until we get these boxes out of the living room - so tell me there's not some pressure there But after I get through the boxes today - I'm taking the rest of the day off - except to plan my menu and I don't mind doing that. I did try roasting a chicken yesterday - a big 6 pound one. It came out great except I thought to myself that this was sort of dumb - chicken today and then turkey, turkey, turkey for the next week. Will have to find some recipes - maybe I can turn the leftover chicken into a nice hearty soup. Sure would love to be able to make Greek egg lemon soup like I had in Greektown when I worked down that way. I've tried a few recipes but can't find anything that comes close. Anyway - coffee's finished, I'm getting chilly so that means it's time to get up and move around.

    Have a good one chicks
  • Happy
The boss had our lunch catered. Tomorrow's TG is potluck. My uncle would put out deer corn for his deer and turkey. Give them time I bet they will find the goodies.

I'm stuffed. And really don't want to do anything else for the day. L one of my co-workers came up for lunch today and she really looks good. She's lost 40 pounds.
  • Morning all.

Michelle - Hope your procedure goes smoothly today!! I'm here at work today, but the office closes at 3:00 pm. Most people seem to duck out earlier. I have a 3:10 express train, so I will leave a bit early to ensure I make that one, and also get there early enough to get a seat to boot!

Shad - Nice to not have to work full days - that bit of extra time can make all the difference. I need to get a new ticker in my siggy. I deleted mine because it wasn't the way I wanted it and didn't have the time to figure it out yesterday.

Ceejay - I hope you enjoy the TG lunch today at work. It's nice they do that for you. My steps per the pedometer were 6904 yesterday. Today I'm at 3226 so far. Hope work is quiet for you and you get your alone time! When I arrived at work today my boss's office light was off and I thought she might have decided to work from home today...but she was just running late. Oh well. She's busy today, so it'll be quiet around here, espec. since the admin is out today.

Mel - Interesting housing option there! Houses are built in the darnedest places, so you could almost believe it exists, LOL. Hope you're feeling better today and well enough to deal with the long holiday weekend and whatever will happen in the building - which I hope is nuttin'!!! Glad you enjoyed my story about my rude freight train awakening, LOL.

Annie - Happy cooking and baking! I have to bake brownies to take to bf's brother's tomorrow. One pan with nuts, one without. I'll probably do that tomorrow morning. Have a wonderful bath time w/ lil monkey!!

    Happy

I enjoyed the movie Tower Heist last night. I hadn't seen Eddie Murphy in anything for ages (nothing I wanted to see him in - like what - Dr Doolittle??), so that was nice. It wasn't the best movie I ever saw (I'm not a huge fan of Ben Stiller), but it was an entertaining mix of a comedy and a heist movie.

I readjusted the bed last night and it was really mushy, but I didn't wake up during the night with any numbness, so that was good. Or maybe I was just tired from the previous night's sleep deficit and slept through it. Not that having the bed that soft is going to be agreeable to my back... I might increase the firmness a smidge tonight and see what happens. If I still have issues, my next solution might be to buy one of those egg crate foam thingies for my side of the bed. I also think getting more regular exercise would be a good thing for me. Just doing one or sometimes two classes a week is likely not enough for me. Oh, btw, I read the rx insert for my bp med and nothing mentioned numbness. Might do some more reading about it on the internet.

Been interrupted a jillion times today, so finally getting this posted and will get off to lunch after that. Riding my bike home today, since I left it at the train Monday morning. Will see what exercise class works for me in late afternoo/early evening and go to one. Also need to get to the store for some cocoa for my brownies. I bought a different brand last time and it isn't as dark as my usual brand and I remember thinking I didn't like that as far as color went. Goofy, but that's me, LOL.

    Gotta run!
  • Hey Happy - You're sure going to have a lot of poultry around the house for a bit. Soup sounds good, and so does a pot pie. Love egg lemon soup! You might just have to make the trip to Greektown here to get your fix, LOL.

Yes, they are decorating downtown. Haven't been to Macy's since that fundraising event last month, but I'm pretty sure they still do the big tree and certainly the Walnut Room. God forbid they didn't - people are still mourning the loss of Field's. You're one of them, aren't you??? Coincidentally, the guys are putting out the decorations today in the lobby of the building in which I work.

Beautiful sunny day today - I did a quick lunch across the street, but I wished I could take a walk instead. Oh well, I'll get to enjoy my bike ride home from the train in daylight today!!

I've decided to do a PIYO class today at 5 pm - Pilates/Yoga. It's not cardio, but too bad. That way I will have the rest of the evening to myself. I might even make the brownies tonight so I don't have to do it tomorrow morning.

    TTFN!
  • Laura
I need to do come pilates and yoga myslef. I'm getting stiff
Talk about Christmas decorations. Our city put ours up last week. That's too early for me.
    ----
I should have known that the light office would leave early today. However they did wait till four and not three p.m.
B came out to the chemical room to give me my christmas bonus check and locked me out of my normal route back into the plant. Had to walk around the building. Oh well a few more steps is not going to hurt. I'll pay him back.
  • Hey ladies,

I'm using DH's work iPad to post. Both his and my procedures went well...but we are both very, very sore. We took our meds and are laying on ice bags. We should be at least a little better tomorrow.

The meds are making me sleepy...but I did want to mention to Happy that Macy's downtown does have a beautiful tree. I never saw the Fields tree...so I can't compare. DH and I went to Chicago a couple years ago at Christmas. A friend of ours who lives there took us on a christmas decoration tour.

Anyway....time for the ice bag to go back to the freezer....and for me to take at nap.

    Love ya's,

  • FROM MY HOUSE TO YOURS
WISHING ALL MY FRIENDS A VERY HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

    I'LL BE BACK LATER.
TURKEY DINNERS ARE BEING DELIVERED SOON.
THEY NEED A CART & MY PASS KEY.

  • Happy Thanksgiving to all the Worldies. Enjoy your day.

I'll be leaving around 10:30 a.m. to go to Paragould. Getting some last minute things done for my sis and bil. Can't wait to see them.
  • Good morning ladies,

to all - even if it's not a holiday from your corner of the world. It's bright and sunny today - I've cleared enough boxes so I can at least see partially across the room and I'm taking a break from unpacking today. I am certainly going to miss having 2 ovens in the kitchen and am about to sit down and plan out how to best cook my meal.

I hope you all have safe travels if you are road bound today and take a few moments to reflect on the good things and blessings in our lives - like the friends we have made here. And I hope you have some good food today.

    Love to you all
  • Good morning my dear friends,

Happy Thanksgiving (even to those not celebrating this holiday)! I hope you all have a wonderful day and wishing those on the road very safe travels!
I am so appreciative of all the good things in my life, and the challenges that have made me grow. I am also so fortunate to have you all in my life.

John's back pain has increased overnight, so he's resting now. I fell asleep at 5:30 yesterday afternoon, but woke up every few hours...so each time I woke up, I grabbed an ice bag to lay on for 1/2 hour or so. I still got LOTS of good rest and the pain is manageable today.

If I'm feeling up to it, DMIL and I will be going to Kohl's tonight at midnight. Lots of good deals, and when I factor in my discount...the deals are even better. We'll see how I feel.

Well, gotta go rest before the game.

I wish we could all be celebrating this holiday of appreciation together.

    Much love and many hugs,
  • Happy Thanksgiving to all my Worldly friends, whom I am thankful for having gotten to know and enjoy the company of.

Ceejay - I agree it was too early for the decorations for me - before TG is too early for me. But I sure wouldn't mind getting a Christmas bonus any time of year! Enjoy your day in Paragould.

Michelle - Glad your pain is manageable, but wow, I can't even imagine going out shopping after having that procedure! Course I just can't imagine myself going shopping at midnight on Black Friday anyway, LOL. Take care of yourself!!

Mel - Like that graphic! Have a wonderful day!

Happy - I hope you manage to juggle all the cooking w/ one oven. It's definitely a challenge when you've got a lot going.

to the rest of the Worldlies!

My two pans of brownies are baked and the house smells wonderful. I did my baking this morning because I was tired after my PIYO class last night. That had some challenging moves, including stuff we did on the big fitness balls.

Bf made chili last night, not for dinner though because he started it late. It smelled so good! However, we had pasta w/ Trader Joe's bolognese sauce, which is rather yummy for sauce from a jar.

I think we'll be leaving in about an hour so I better get myself dressed and the brownies sliced and plated.

    Everyone have a wonderful day!

  • Must be Thanksgiving on the other side of the world. Everywhere I look there are references to food, family, eating, food, eating, fun, food, eating etc. Get the picture?

Anyway happy Thanksgiving to you all. Seems like a much more appropriate holiday than that which is to follow - which is now purely commercial, gimme, iwanna and all that. Don't mind me, just call me grinch.

It's been raining off an on all day yesterday and today and my wee plants are just leaping out of the ground. Since I don't have a lot of luck with the regular carrots I bought some 'roly poly' variety to try. They are round not long. I'll let you know how they go. I was going to buy some of the purple carrots but knew DS2 would not eat them so that was that. Seems I didn't post yesterday even though I thought I did. Maybe it was my imagination - sigh.

Mel - love that castle on the rock. There is a monastry in Greece on a rock similar to that. Not on the beach tho. We could go live there for a while - next 6 weeks sounds about right.
I doubt that you would want to swim in the pool. Might be up for dermabrasion if you did. It's the wash plant dam.

Ceejay - thanksgiving lunch put on by the company??? Crikey.

Annie - sounds like a busy time for you at the moment. I hope you enjoyed the bathing bit yesterday.

Laura - guess I must be the lucky one. I just lie down and go to sleep. The mattress (or chair) can be hard soft or in the middle. Maybe it comes from sleeping in so many different beds. I've always been able to do it.

Michelle - glad that the procedure went off fine. I've got for continuing improvement.

Happy - tough on the ovens. You'll have to mix with the rest of us yokels and only have one oven and a microwave. If there is only two of you is it going to make that much difference? Otherwise light the barbeque and do some roasting on that. Tastes better than the oven anyway.

Yumm on all the food mentioned. I had a tandoori chicken breast and salad for dinner last night. Whats left over will do for lunch and/ or dinner tonight. Then it's a bit of salmon for the next meal. Looking forward to that. Love it.

Right then, better get back to what I was doing - which is making more changes to the dreaded powerpoint presentation. Geez I hate powerpoint when it is not used for that which it was intended. See ya over the weekend some time.
  • Annie has snuck in while I am not looking. Hi Annie. Dinner sounds good. I'll be over for the leftovers.
