BFC Labor Day Challenge All Are Welcome!

:welcome: To BFC Labor Day Challenge Monday Aug.1st is the beginning of another BFC
challenge. As You may have noticed that there is a thread called BFC Challenge & Beyond list under 50+ support group. I have been asked to start a new thread that is easier to find and are for all age groups; so here it is. Goal for this challenge is as follows:Lose 10lbs by Aug.31,2011
Daily S/C Values are: Sugar=15grams/carbs 6 grams

BFC stands for "The Belly Fat Cure". It is about losing belly fat and reducing your wasteline. Belly fat has been linked to all kind of diseases from sleep, cancer, hormonal disturbance, heart disease, type 2 diabeies, higher levels of C-reactive protein which in turn is connected to chronic inflammation. We all know what chronic inflammation does to the human body. BCF based on counting your grams of sugar and carbs. It works with carb exchanges so you can still have normal food and still lose weight and belly fat. Sugar is no more than 15 grams a day and carbs are 6 per day and thats where the S/C Value comes from. (S) being sugar and (C) carbs. It is well worth getting the book and reading it. It is one of the easiest plans I have ever tried. I for the first time unstand how not just being over weight
effects you, but where you store fat. Now more than ever, it is easy to follow guidelines because every package of food gives you the read out of sugar, carbs, fat, saturated fat,etc. Most people who follow the plan can lose between 4 to 9 pounds per week. Here is what is quoted in book.

"Goal Total........................Lose Each Week"
lose 20 to 60lbs.................10 to 13lbs.
lose 10 29lbs.....................4 to 9lbs.
lose 3 to 9lbs.....................1 to 3lbs.

1. Weigh in today and post stats.
SW=(starting weight)
CW=(current weight)
GW=(goal weight)

Please measure your waist as well.

2. Weigh in on Mondays
3. Post daily and give support to other BFC-ers and share ideas & tips.

Those who are familar with the other thread may post where ever you feel most comfortable. We all are striving to lose weight and build a great support group and I encourage eveyone to join and have a great time. It is more fun and helps to keep your focus if you pertisapate regularly. Together we can achieve great results. Imagine being 4 to 9lbs. lighter by next Monday. Good Luck to all!

Hi all,

Yes, I'm up for the challenge! Can't wait to lose 10 more pounds and fit into my "too tight" shorts from last year. I've been OP today, having a nice egg sandwich (whole grain bread) for breakfast, almonds for snack, and chicken fingers, rice, and celery/peanut butter for lunch. I'm going to hardboil some eggs tonight to have them on hand for the week.

BTW, Here's a good article about high fiber, low carb vegetables.

Good luck to all!

Today:
Starting=(169)
Current=(169)
Goal=(159) Would love to be in the 150's again...

BCL216 08-01-2011 06:42 PM

My Stats:
SW=232
CW=218
GW=210

IT feels good to get back on track. I have done well today and I am Praying for strength to fight tomorrows Battles. I have 8lbs to go to meet challenge and I can actually see myself reaching that goal. Problem is....my weight usually goes up and down. Today down!!:carrot:

Ok, out for a walk.

WebWoman 08-02-2011 07:51 AM

I lost 1/2 pound so far and am glad the scale is moving again. :) Last night I had grilled chicken and vegetables (they are great marinated with italian dressing), but had to eat a VERY small portion of vodka pasta that my DD made from scratch so as not to offend her. Snacked on some roasted pepper hummus with flatbread crackers, and portions were all sensible. It' was just too hot to walk outside yesterday, but I'll try to walk this morning for a mile or so from work.

Starting Challenge=(169)
Current=(168.5)
Goal=(159) Would love to be in the 150's again...

BCL216 08-02-2011 10:13 AM

Great morning! I am back on track and have started my Labor Day Challenge. I am down 1.2lbs. already:broc:. Last month was no so good because of medical problems, but I am back and rocking it. Hubbie and I planning a trip to the beach Labor Day Weekend and I am shooting for a 10lb. loss before than. If I can keep this up, I might even see a 15lb. loss:p.

Webwoman way to go! If we keep this up, we both will reach our Challenge goal plus some. Feels great doesn't it! Wow I wish I was at your present weight. Monday I stayed on track, I had my usual BFC breakfeast(boiled eggs, bacon toast & coffee.) Lunch was a chief salad with grilled chicken and
light rasberry vinaigrett dressing. Dinner(grilled chicken, green beans and boiled new potatoes) Stayed within my S/C values. :smug::smug:
Good Luck to all and have a great BFC week!

Wannabehealthy 08-02-2011 03:20 PM

Thank you WebWoman for posting the link to this new thread. I was having a hard time finding it.

My weight for 8/1 was 186.5 and today, 8/2 I am at 185.5. So 1 lb lost so far!

Today is my grandson's birthday....he is 3 YO! Happy Birthday John.

Carol

BCL216 08-02-2011 08:16 PM

Welcome Carol! So Glad you finally found the thread. I don't know why it is so hard to locate it.:dizzy:
1lb. down is great and it really helps keep you looking ahead to the next 5 days. I am hoping that we all see a nine pound loss for next week.

Today has been interesting and meals ok, not my best choices as far as taste. Its hard to come up with things you like and stay within your S/C range. The book has alot of great ideas, but they are not always available.
I am starting to feel the withdrawals from sugar...:tired: :comp:
posting keeps my mind off food.

WebWoman 08-03-2011 08:05 AM

Good morning, BFC Chicks,

I'm pretty upbeat this morning as I've lost another pound :). It really helps that the food cravings are diminished, and I made it a point to keep busy last night doing chores instead of grazing through the pantry. I had more chicken and vegetables for dinner. I buy the whole rotisserie chicken from the grocery store for 5-6 bucks, and it lasts me for a few days.

I'm not a real breakfast person, so that seems to be a challenge for me. I brought a couple of eggs to work and will probably scramble them in the microwave later in the morning, and I have some whole wheat pita things I can stuff.

Please share with us what works for you!

Starting Challenge=(169)
Current=(167.5)
Goal=(159) Would love to be in the 150's again...

BCL216 08-03-2011 08:52 AM

A Good BFC Morning to All,

First Webwoman thanks for the link to this challenge, I am not sure that posting the challenge from BFC Challenge & Beyond has done any good as to gaining more participants. But I am happy to see that there is an interest.

Now as to breakfast, it is the most important meal of the day. It gives you that much needed energy and starts your metabolism. I choose one of the weekly plans from the book and try to stick as closely as possible.
Besure you drink plenty of water and take your vitamins. It really does help.
If you skip meals, you will have cravings and your body will not burn stored fat. It will go into starvation mode and hold onto the stored fat.
I try to make breakfast my biggest meal, then lunch as recommended in book. Dinner I do better if I keep it light and stay away from bread. I tend to retain alot of fluid, especially at night and eating bread.
Check out one of the weekly plans in the BFC book and stick to it. If you do, you will see great results. Don't forget that you do have the carb swap option, making it easier to create a life style you can live with.

BCL216 08-04-2011 07:59 AM

Good Morning! Its a great BFC Morning!! I am down another pound!!
I weighed Sunday am I was 220, I weighed on Monday-218 and today 216!!:cheer2::cheer3: I LOVE BFC plan.

WebWoman 08-04-2011 08:24 AM

Good morning and Congrats BCL!

I'm the same this morning, but can't realistically expect to lose every day. Last night we grilled hamburgers and corn on the cob, so I think the extra sodium may be to blame. Salt's the devil!

I've packed healthy foods for breakfast and lunch today, which I eat at work. I'm still upbeat about the program and will keep with it.

BCL216 08-04-2011 09:37 PM

Webwomen, You are doing great! just keep up the great work; you have come so far already. I pray that I get to where you are now.

WebWoman 08-05-2011 08:06 AM

Good morning BFC chicks,

Still no further loss, although I've been OP all week. What do you think?

Breakfast: 1 HB egg, 1 pc whole wheat toast (no butter), coffee with Stevia (breakfast is always hard for me to gag down)
Snack: handfull of natural almonds
Lunch: a bunch of celery with 1 1/2 T peanut butter; chicken breast with skin removed; some cherries
Snack: ~1/2 oz. dark chocolate
Dinner: steamed broccoli, another chicken breast, white wine
Lots of water throughout the day.

I have actually NOT been "counting" s/c, but more sticking to the guidelines in the book. I think my body may be resisting loss, but I'm not really hungry, either. I think I'm doing ok, but I'd love to see a whoosh. :(

Next week will be a BFC challenge for me- I have a wedding on Saturday and will be staying in a hotel. Monday morning I leave for Dallas for the week for a national convention, and it will be tough to find the right foods out of town.

BCL216 08-05-2011 09:12 AM

Webwoman,
Watch the white wine, it has alot of sugar. Your food choices sound great, it takes time for the body to let go of the stored fat. But if you stay true and you will see that woosh! I have a wedding Sat. the 13th...I am already planning a head as to what I will allow myself to eat or drink. Give it some thought, keep portions small and limit it to only one of whatever you choose.
add a little exercise & before you know it Woosh!

WebWoman 08-06-2011 10:06 AM

It's Saturday morning, and I'm down another half pound. :) Haven't been able to get any exercise in as I'm getting things ready for the wedding and my trip to Dallas, but I'll be doing a LOT of walking there as we don't have a car. Have a good BFC day!

SW: 169
CW: 167
GW: 159

Finally moving 08-06-2011 01:09 PM

I'm not officially participating in the challenge, since I leave Monday for a two week vacation with family. We share cooking responsibilities, and I don't expect to be able to stick to the plan on the days I don't cook. I will be happy with a 5 lb loss this month. That said, I wanted to comment on your menu, WebWoman. I personally can't drink alcohol at all and lose weight. Wine particularly seems to mess up my blood sugar, and cause cravings in the morning. You might want to experiment with not drinking it and see if it helps. Good luck!!!

BCL216 08-06-2011 06:49 PM

Welcome finally moving, you can join in anytime you like. I hope that you & webwoman will have a safe trip and enjoy.

BCL216 08-08-2011 08:57 AM

GOOD BFC MORNING! Its time to weigh in.
I am down 4lbs. and feeling great!

SW-220 Aug.1
CW-216 Aug.8
GW-210 "LAbor Day"!

BCL216 08-10-2011 08:48 PM

ok Tuesday was not the best BFC day. I binged! But this morning, the scale was down! I am down from a size 18 to a 16!

WebWoman 08-13-2011 12:11 PM

BCL, Congrats for your loss and size loss, too! I just returned from Dallas and decided I wouldn't weigh in till Monday. It was bad there, as healthy choices were almost impossible to find at the hotel and nearby restaurants, but I did my best with what was there. Stress didn't help either, but I can get back in my usual routine now.

BCL216 08-13-2011 09:43 PM

Webwoman
Welcome back! You might be supprised when you weigh in Monday. I hope that I have lost at least another pound. I need to do better with my routine as well. I am a little disappointed that more people hasn't taken the challenge. I wish I had just kept it on the BFC Challenge & Beyond Part II.
But someone wanted it in a more central location and not under 50+. Oh, well, It is getting a little confusing going back in forth between the two.

BCL216 08-14-2011 12:10 PM

:sunny:Wahoo! At my lowest weight this morning!! Will post it Monday.

WebWoman 08-15-2011 10:48 AM

Congrats BCL!

I'm back from Dallas (it's like an oven there!) and was really afraid to get on the scale but - this morning I was only up less than a pound, so I think that's ok, given the poor choices available in the hotel and restaurants with the group. I did stick to plan as much as possible, and it could have been mUCH worse! Hoping to see a loss this week back in my routine.

Have a good week all!

BCL216 08-15-2011 09:44 PM

Down 1/2lb. is good, you didn't gain and thats what counts. Hang in there you will reach your goal before you know it. It looks as though that you,
slim11 and I are the only ones taking this challenge.

WebWoman 08-16-2011 08:03 AM

This morning I was down a half pound, so I think I'm on track again. Instead of reaching for my regular "loose" black pants for work today, I tried on my old size 14 black pants - and they fit!! This is tangible progress and I'm very pleased.

When I suggested this challenge be posted separately from the first one, I thought it would be put in the Age 50 group like the first one, as some of the members seemed interested. Perhaps I miscommunicated...maybe for NEXT month's challenge :) we can put it back in the Age 50 group. Think of how slim we'll be by then!

BCL216 08-16-2011 09:05 AM

Webwoman,
Way to go! Size 14! Your are doing wonderful. I just noticed that both of us has lost 17 pounds thus far. But I have so much more to go. I had a thought looking at your weight and your size; I am a size 16 and 215lbs.. I wonder what size I would be when I reach 160lbs?;)
I will end this thread Labor Day. But I have a great one that will again be under "BFC One Week Challenge and Beyond" This is going to be a great one that will last and last, until goal. Everyone will be able to participate no matter the plan. But it will be geared toward BFC-ers. I think you will love this one.
I am learning how to navigate this forum and I think with a little more studying; I will be able to have links between it and "Belly Fat Cure 2011". Its not a "Ping" but...a trackback, I think. I will fill you in later.
Thanks for all your support. :hug:

WebWoman 08-17-2011 09:12 AM

I think it also has to do with how sizes run in clothing. I'm almost 5'8" tall and wear 14 pants due to my large derriere, which I hope is shrinking now. My tops are medium or size 12 ish. I'd love to land at size 10 top and bottom, and look forward to buying some new clothes!

Sizing is a very interesting topic for me, as when I weighed 130 lbs I wore a size 9/10 or 11/12 depending on how they were cut. So many other people that weight tell me they are wearing a 6 or 8. I would never have been able to fit into those sizes. I am built pretty much top heavy. I cannot buy outfits that are sold together because if the top fits, the bottom is saggy/baggy. I have to buy where you can pick out tops and bottoms in different sizes. I currently can wear a size 16 pants, but need an XL or 1X top. I think I could fit into a L, but I don't like to accent my rolls, so I wear a looser top. It's not because my boobs are big....I just have a lot of upper body fat, in my back and rolls around my midriff. My hips, thighs and butt are smaller in proportion. I can fit into a size 14 pants, but can't fasten the waist. So I wear a 16. I love the look of a nice, tight pair of jeans, but will never be able to have that look because my waist is too big. :( If I do get them fastened, it pushes all my fat up above my waist and really accents the midriff bulge.

We're never satisfied, are we? :)

Carol

BCL216 08-17-2011 10:09 AM

Carol, I know what you mean. I was top heavy until about 4 years ago. I had breast reduction. I went from a heavy G to a D cup. It was not my intention, the surgeon made a mistake. He was new and inexcperienced. He took 8lbs!!!!:o It left me as flat as a pancake. It was so davistating and I have regretted it. Now it seems my body no longer looks proportioned. I am now somewhere between a D or DD cup. But the girls are not very pretty. I always had a very nice shape and now...:(. Well I have learned to live with it.

WebWoman 08-17-2011 01:10 PM

If you are still a D or DD cup, it sounds like you've still got plenty! Remember, things will be back in proportion and look balanced when you lose the bottom weight.

I had always been a B cup till I had my kids, now I'm a C. I'd really like to get back to a B as I lose weight because smaller makes me look younger and more athletic. (and I can wear more pretty things!)

BCL216 08-17-2011 03:24 PM

webwoman, thanks for the encouragement. I reallt hope so, the girls look like someone let the air out of a tire.

Oh, mine look like that because of age! LOL My upperbody weight isn't due to large breasts. It's the fat on my back, arms, midriff etc. I am a D cup. I was a C before I gained weight. When I was thin, I wanted to be a B so I could go braless. That was the big thing back then. I still would prefer that they didn't hang, but that ship has sailed! LOL

I agree that when you continue to lose weight you will probably be happy with your D cup.

Good Morning All,

I behaved myself this weekend and lost another pound. :) I think that since the stress of moving my son into school has passed, it's easier for me to stay on plan and make better choices. Also, I was busy painting and working in the yard this weekend and went to the gym on Saturday, which helped. Having a HB egg for breakfast and packed a big salad with fresh veggies for lunch, and cherries for a snack. Yumm!

BCL216 08-22-2011 08:44 AM

Good Morning all,
Congrats webwoman on th 1lb. loss and staying busy deffinitely helps. I am at a stand still but trying a few new things to get that scale moving. I am adding a few new exercises. Have a good BFC week.

BCL216 08-23-2011 07:34 AM

Good Morning,
I did well Monday and I am down 1lb. this morning, I walked 1.5 miles and I feel better. I have not been sleeping as well as I would like(maybe 3 to 4 hours). Boy, oh boy! I feel it. To day is my zumba day and I hope I have the energy to make it through. I read the blog "Me and Jorge" and wow! what a great blog. Very inspiring and I learned a lot, I think everyone should read it.
She started blogging the first day of BFC and she looks great. The information contained in this blog is first rate and she has lost around 52lbs!!
I love those who go that extra mile and are so dedicated, they help those like myself who needs that motivation.

I just googled this and bookmarked it so I can go back and read it later. I love to read inspiring stories about weight loss. It was surprisingly easy to find, but I'm going to try to post a link so others can read it too.

I hope I was allowed to do that. If not, I'm sorry!

WebWoman 08-23-2011 09:34 AM

Good morning all,

No change on the scale this morning, but I know I had a good day yesterday. Ate tons of raw veggies and made pulled pork for dinner from ribs that simmered in the crock pot all day. Had fresh tomatoes from the garden - yum! I created a very low sugar BB sauce by starting with a very low sugar catsup and adding some liquid smoke, red cayenne pepper, garlic, and stevia for sweetener. My daughter couln't even tell it wasn't the real stuff!

Today I need to concentrate on drinking enough water, think I forgot yesterday...

Will be working in the yard tonight instead of other exercise, but that's ok as long as it's something. Have a good day!

BCL216 08-23-2011 11:26 AM

Sept. Challenge, All invited!

The new challenge will post on "BCF One Week Challenge and Beyond"

Starting September 1st a new challenge will start called “Five Pounds to Lose....?”
"Five Pounds to lose…..”Anybody can lose five pounds….Right! I myself have done it nearly a twenty times in the past fifteen years. Losing five pounds is a sensible and achievable goal, if you did it once you can do it again. Members will receive a prize with every five pounds lost, a five pound sticker to put on your post for recognition and reward. This challenge is designed to change your mind set of looking a big number in pounds and seeing it impossible, to thinking of it as 5lbs. at time. Now your minds say that’s achievable. Rewarded yourself appropriately at each success and you only have five pounds to go until your next goal is achieved.

“Success comes to those who try and keep trying with PMA, a POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE”

WebWoman 08-24-2011 07:49 AM

Good morning and I hope everyone isn't All Shook Up after yesterday! We actually felt a little tremor all the way over here in Dayton Ohio.

Yesterday I lost another pound! I really tried to add more activity, so in addition the the 2 1-mile walks I take during work, at lunchtime I walked on the treadmill for half and hour, and later worked in the yard. Had very little for dinner, mostly leftover pulled pork. Not a balanced dinner, but I love how protein fills you up.

I'm excited because I realize I lost my first 10% of body weight. It will be my next goal to lose the next 10% I think. I'm also loving that I can wear all the size 14 pants in the closet very comfortably now and I'm beginning to see my waist again. :)

Have a good BFC day!

BCL216 08-24-2011 08:51 AM
