Arrived successfully at Day 9! Woot!

Not working today so shall get a wee more rest and lift weights!

Rosinante 07-26-2011 11:25 AM

Just before I went to bed last night I got into watching the documentary "half ton teen". There was one poor kid who died, one who had a mouth and an attitude on him and one who kept trying to try but whose mother was feeding him up.
It really made me think and has had a Huge effect on my portion sizes!

JoJoJo2 07-26-2011 01:11 PM

Rosinante - I've seen that show myself, and I do find that shows of that type really get me to thinking about portion size, idle snacking, etc. I never had a weight problem as a teen since I was so active, but later on I packed on the lbs.

Am/Tess - Glad the bird hopped off to a new life. Right now here the baby robins are beginning to fly away. Occasionally one will be slower in the learning department and the mamma bird will get all flustered about it. Birds are fun to watch.

Silverbirch - Keeping daily events on the straight and narrow is a worthy achievement.

Day 8 for me, and I'm keep busy. Laundry, cleaning, more laundry, more cleaning, decluttering down at the church, more cleaning, etc. etc.

But let's smile at the world, and mayhap the world will smile back! :)

Amarantha2 07-26-2011 01:34 PM

Rosinate and JJJ2, I have never seen that show. I like those kind of programs also as they remind me to be careful.

Tess here in the Hinterlands is wanderin' 'round and feelin' really well but unsettled. She is sufferin' a crisis o' scale, she no longer trusts her scale or the kind she has.

That is a result of her weighing more than once a week so she's going to stop doin' that lol.

Thought t'would be fun to go shopping and buy a new scale.

Seems sometimes to some, I guess, as Tess be a little too focused on weight but believe moi, she has learned that is how it has to be if she is to continue on the journey and not have a major regain.

Lately, since the job change and lifestyle change (SORT of), it seems the weight wants her back.

Hmmm, it can't have her!

Avast!

Having such a lovely day. Off to the scale hunt. Obsessed with the scale, nah.

Just enjoyin' it all.

Here's a wee update on my streakity (daily exercise that I log all over the place):

TUESDAY, July 26, Day 230 of streakity streak of no day missed of daily exercise, 60 min weights, total streakity streak minutes so far 13805!

silverbirch 07-26-2011 05:21 PM

I have to be quick as my eyes are closing. It's been a hectic but a Streakin' day. Number Eight tomorrow.

Good luck and a following wind to all!

Amarantha2 07-27-2011 12:32 PM

Huzzah, Silverbirch, hope the fair wind caught ye as well and took ye to a fine night's sleep and a fair dawn o' day 8!

Huzzah also to Rosinate and JJJ2!

Tess/Am be on Day 10, can't say yesterday was stellar at just under the wire but t'was goodly. Did buy a new scale, says the same thing the old one does so probably it IS the one true scale.

We'll see.

I have to go to a meetin', did walk in park for two hours with a neighbor and did do abs and have been realizin' somethin' 'bout my activity level (non exercise, I am great at exercise but mayhap need more lifestyle since leaving my last job, we'll see)!!!

JoJoJo2 07-27-2011 12:48 PM

Silverbirch - Hope you got a good night's sleep and are off to a great start today.

Rosinate - Keep streakin' -

Tess/Am - A new scale always is makes for a positive start. Now you know where you are!!!

I'm off to a great start on Day 9 of my personal challenge. I did some more decluttering at our church, and even bought some beautiful veggies at the market on the way home.

Let's stay positive. :D

silverbirch 07-27-2011 05:05 PM

JoJoJo - decluttering and veg are both great! They both make me smile!

Rosinante - streak onwards!

Tess/Am - life keeps on turning, I find! New work, new or tweaked lifestyle. Those scales - not ganging up on you, are they?

It turned out to be a bad night's sleep, friends, which is so unusual for me. The SO woke early and I couldn't get back to sleep as my insides felt funny. They have been jammed up for a few days, either because this streak does not suit them or because of lack of proper exercise. So, as I am now cleared to run by the physio, I did a little bit and was rewarded by ravenous hunger and a burst of energy. All good, in my book. We'll see about the insides. I may have a small bowlful of muesli in the am.

Edited to add that I've kept to the letter but not the spirit of the parameters today. I think I may have to tweak my streak as something is up.

It will be Day Eight in less than two hours.

Amarantha2 07-27-2011 07:44 PM

Silverbirch, tweak be the name o' the game in streaks, IMO. Glad ye could get a run in.

Yea, the scales don't like me lately but feelin' more sure o' self in that regard today and am callin' it good at 1610 cals for today as likely goin' to bed early and don't think I'll need to eat again.

My eating day turns over at midnight to accomodate my late meetings so if I have to eat, will eat then but no meetings tonight.

JJJ2, been doin' veggies and decluttering also today, woot! Not a veggie person but findin' more desire for 'em lately. Ye are doin' fantastic. Streak on.

Rosinate, huzzah! Have a good night.

For moi, ON TO DAY 11, woot on that.

I will be doin' another 14 day streak following this one and am already makin' some killer plans for success in a few areas.

I bought a new Kindle approximately a week ago and it is my reward for this round of the challenge and will get myself something else for the next one.

Is anyone else thinkin' o' a tangible reward for successful completion of a 14-dayer?

Film at 11.

JoJoJo2 07-28-2011 11:46 AM

Silverbirch - Tweaking is often necessary in order to obtain the desired results. So tweak away.

Rosinate - Keep streakin'

Tess/Am - A kindle is a lovely reward, no matter what the occasion. Hope your day 11 is going well.

Day 10 for me, and I will be meeting friends for lunch at a local restaurant. Eating out always is a bit of a challenge for me in the eating department, but I vow to do my best. That's all we can do, really.

So let's make today a positive one.

Amarantha2 07-28-2011 02:37 PM

Huzzah, JJJ2, I find restaurants challenging too re the weight management. Yea, we can but do our best.

I recently found Subway's egg white, steak and cheese muffin melt at 180 calories. Had that a few times in the past two weeks, not fancy but nice in my new lifestyle of going to malls sometimes.

Woot!

Huzzah to Rosinate and Silverbirch!

Day 11, working tonight. Just got home from store.

silverbirch 07-28-2011 04:57 PM

Briefly. Second training run with DB went v well. Ate a lot today. The two are linked. Food will settle down so am not concerned.

Love to all. Tess/Am - your new work sounds a bit challenging. Is it market research?

Amarantha2 07-28-2011 07:12 PM

Kudos on second training run, Silverbirch.

My current work involves some work on contract for a muncipality where I used to be a reporter. I have left the journalism field, just recently, going through some paradigm shifts.

Woot! Whatever, I know I will stay within parameters, so why do I fret lol.

Amarantha2 07-29-2011 05:50 PM

Day 12 for moi, huzzah! Feelin' great!

Amarantha2 07-30-2011 04:22 AM

Day 13 but not fully day yet lol.

silverbirch 07-30-2011 06:19 AM

Day 11 here. Still eating a lot as I get into my new exercise regime.

Over the 10 days of this streak, I've tweaked the emphasis on lowish carb to getting back into running and properly operating digestive system. I'm pleased with how the 14-day period has helped me to see that development.

Today is a day off and I'd like to sort out the herb patch and go running.

 to Tess/Am, JoJoJo2, Rosinante and all those who call in.

JoJoJo2 07-30-2011 08:45 AM

Hi, Everyone - this is day 12 for me. :)

Rosinate - Hope things are going well with you.

Silverbirch - That's great that you are finding your successes in your personal streak. We each have to find our own path.

Tess/Am - Today is a day of no fretting! Remember that.

Let's make today the best of all possible days.

Amarantha2 07-30-2011 10:46 AM

Huzzah, friends Silverbirch 'n JJJ2 and Rosinate! Woot!

No frettin' it be, JJJ2!

Silverbirch, thanks for sharin' what the streak period has accomplished for you.

Mine has helped me get into a no binge because of the work/stress excuse and just generally helped me control calories so whether or no the scale is the one true one or the evil lyin' one, I am going to do another 14 dayer that will start on Monday.

This one will be a doozy, with a whole list of goals but the same basic premise that if I mess up, there is no going back to do the count over.

The operative word for me is what I CAN and DO accomplish in 14 days, doing the count over as I have tried to do in the past in these challenges does not work for me and is negative.

I used to be a very negative person but am trying to stop that because that is what got my original weight up to what it was decades ago and that is what can put me back there if I let it.

So constant vigilance and one of my rules is being tested this weekend. I need to regularize my work schedule better. So I will not work past noon on weekends.

Rosinante 07-30-2011 11:14 AM

I'm still streaking! Can't remember what day I'm on though.

My initial commitment - no snacking and a daily walk - were quite modest but I'm glad I made them so, because at least I'm starting to remember what success feels like.

I've gradually modified though: for a while I was adding a large bar of chocolate to every meal, because it was the dessert part of my meal. (I very rarely eat dessert normally).
I've taken that out of the equation.

My portion sizes were enormous, and they never usually are, so I'm working now at making that a permanent 3rd leg: no snacking, a daily walk, no pigging.

Tweak'n'streak.

Good luck to all other streaklets. :)

edit to add: I'm on Day 9.

silverbirch 07-30-2011 05:41 PM

Rosinante - Tweak 'n' Streak is brilliant. You'll remember that "Take two bottles into the shower??? I just Wash 'n' Go" advert. It's very positive and forward-looking.

I'm thinking about adding "Eat all food slowly and sitting down". It's a Beck Diet Solution idea (board here on 3FC) and I've found it very powerful in the past. It's got away from me a bit recently.

I had a good run/walk today - third this week.

Love and strength to all.

Rosinante 07-31-2011 05:00 AM

Well done on the runs, SB!

Sliding into Day 10. Got weighed this morning, and was pleased to find I've slid a pound down, even after all those sudden desserts. Looks like cutting out snacking is the biggie!

Amarantha2 07-31-2011 01:57 PM

Love that .... "TWEAK 'N STREAK!!" Rosinate that is great and congratulations on the scale victory!

Silverbirch, I also like "Eat all food slowly and sitting down!" I need to reread Beck, lot of help for me there, methinks. Congrats on doing so well and the running.

JJJ2!!! Woot, congrats on your Day 12 yesterday and all of the great things ye have been accomplishin' recently!

Tess/Am is on Day 14. Did this day START to work the Sunday hours on the stuff I need to get done for the job but then did a two hour walk/jog session and a weigh-in and some clarity came to me about how burnt out I used to be working all the time when it never got done and the deadlines always made me binge on Monday anyhow, so am leaving it all from this point (maybe) until Monday (might do a little on it but need to force self to stop thinking like that as it IS a major reason why I had a wee regain).

So planning for Day 1 of my next streak took place. Scale was nice to me but not that much. I have reformulated my goals actually to lose 10 pounds by September 25, which is when I need to have made some further career decisions.

My 14-Day Challenge (Round 2) rule is for each day to be WORKING TOWARDS a WEEKLY CALORIE AVERAGE OF 1600 OR LESS! That is Challenge Rule 1.

Challenge Rule 2 is NO EVIL WALLY WORLD TRIANGLE DONUT ON ANY DAY for the length o' the challenge.

Once again, these "rules" do not constitute legally binding contracts and there is no requirement for moi to go back and start the count over if there is a nonconforming day.

Ibid, quid pro quo.

That be it! Woot!

JoJoJo2 07-31-2011 04:52 PM

Today is Day 13 for me on my 'maintenance streak' and so far it is going OK.

Maintaining a weight loss is a whole different thing than losing the weight -- but actually it is much the same. We "weight-challenged" individuals need to constantly focus on what we need to do. It is so easy for those lost lbs. to come slithering back and reattach themselves to our bodies, and we really don't want that. :) The statistics are against us, most people who lose a significant amount of weight are not able to maintain that weight loss.

May we all, Rosinante, Silverbirch, Tess, and any non-posting participants, continue on our individual streaks, each of us doing the very best we can.

Actually, that is all we realistically can do. Woot!!!

silverbirch 07-31-2011 05:10 PM

Coming in at the end of Day 12. A good day, work-wise, and not too bad, food-wise, though could have eaten less. No exercise bar a little bit of weeding (30 mins?) as I was at work all day.

Let's do our best, all!

Amarantha2 07-31-2011 05:53 PM

Yea, JJJ2, it IS the same, maintenance is the flip side of the loss and as I am doing, we are sometimes called upon in maintenance to lose some weight just to remain maintained. Congrats on Day 13.

Silverbirch, congrats to ye on Day 12!

And again congrats to Rosinate and any lurkers herein also.

Was going to take a nap and decided to go out and wander the world as i used to do as burns more calories than lying on the couch, so went shopping and only bought bleach. I like bleach and use it to freshen the air and clean and a host of things.

I am sure Day 14 will be a success. The calorie total, of course, will count towards this week's average so I am that much to the good.

Amarantha2 08-01-2011 03:34 AM

Officially on Day 1! Woot, will be back tomorrow night, gotta really focus tomorrow on the work.

Amarantha2 08-01-2011 09:34 PM

Lookin' ok here on my Day 1, finished work, no binge, no donuts, got some healthy food in and have another work day then a day off and the late meeting again, etc., think I can do ok without donuts. Woot!

JoJoJo2 08-01-2011 10:48 PM

Today was Day 14 for me, so it is the final day of the 14 day "Good Weight Management Behavior Streak" for me. It's been helpful to me, so I think I will start tomorrow with Day 1 of another streak.

Let's all do the best we can as long as we can.

silverbirch 08-02-2011 02:54 AM

Day 13 was not particularly good. I did a lot of gardening, moving slate round which was excellent and very enjoyable. Less good was multi-tasking around that. This is something I'm very bad at and hate having to do. So too much nibbling standing up.

Amarantha2 08-02-2011 08:33 AM

Woot! Huzzah to JJJ2 and the new challenge. Congratulations on the Day 14 victory and so glad ye are doin' another one!

Silverbirch, all that movin' slate probably cancelled out the nibbles. Huzzah on Day 13!!!

Greetings also to Rosinate! Woot!

Any any silent pards we may have here!

***
I am on Day 2 and it is a similar stress filled agenda today as yesterday but handling it better as am halfway through a walk (sometimes I also multi task and take breaks, which is why I should go do the track at the gym instead where I just get it done) ... hmmm ... anyway my thingie yesterday went well and cals were at a place where the weekly average reached less than 1600 and there were no evil Wally donuts on the horizon anywhere and intent is to replicate that today, but be less stressed about everything.

Woot!

silverbirch 08-02-2011 03:19 PM

Day 14 - not great. Multi-tasking. I'm not sure whether I'll be joining you for another streak as I'm only just getting through these days at present (too much going on) and posting is sometimes too much to fit in. I'll sleep on it.

But very  idea, Tess/Am! Thank you. And good luck to you both, JoJoJo2 and Rosinante!

Amarantha2 08-02-2011 08:39 PM

Ye are always welcome, Silverbirch, t'is fun to see ye here but understandable if ye don't do another challenge.

Woot!

JJJ2, I was thinkin' o' the GOOD WEIGHT MANAGEMENT BEHAVIOR STREAK earlier today and it got me up and moving when I really wanted an extra nap. I remember I used to call these behaviors by some acronym or other lol, things like always walking my grocery cart back to its proper place instead of lazily leaving it near my car, taking extra walks, not skipping any workouts, not eating donuts (much) lol.

All adds up in maintenance mode as well as losses.

Rosinate, huzzah!

I actually thought I was on day 3 earlier, that is how busy the last two days have been, kind of lived three days in two, but for me today has been great as in getting work done, no binges, a lowish cal count that I may add to if hungry and two hours of exercise (walking and abs).

So NOW I can say on to day 3 for me!

JoJoJo2 08-02-2011 09:49 PM

Today was Day #1 for me on another "Good Weight Management Behavior Streak." The last streak was successful in that I stayed at my maintenance goal. I allow myself a 3 lb. leeway in my maintenance, which works for me, and the streak fitted into that personal goal. Today was a good day.

Silverbirch - It's been a pleasure 'streakin' with you, and I wish you well in whatever direction your life takes you.

Rosinate - Greetings to you -

Am/Tess - Glad you had a good day of it, and on to the next day. Woot!

Let's make each day the best we can.

Amarantha2 08-02-2011 10:20 PM

Woot! Congrats on Day 1 JJJ2~!

Just ate a sugar free fudgesicle, the best thing in the central AZ heat ...

Amarantha2 08-03-2011 07:16 AM

Day 3 for me but I probably should go back to bed lol. Woot! Doing well!

JoJoJo2 08-03-2011 09:32 PM

Tess/Am - I ate a sugar-free fudgesicle myself last night. Great minds you know. :)

Anyway I have now pretty much completed Day #2 on the second "Good Weight Management Behavior Streak." It's gone well, too.

So onward to tomorrow and Day #3. Let's keep thinking positive thoughts.

Amarantha2 08-04-2011 05:50 PM

Woot, there ye be, Friend JJJ2, forgot to post here for a day and happily I am absolutely still streakin' on Day 4 and havin' another Fudsicle.

Have to go do a work assignment tonight. Spent the day planning so that I will not overeat when I get home.

Woot!

Let's keep goin' ...

JoJoJo2 08-04-2011 09:07 PM

Hi, Tess/Am - No fudgesickle for me tonight. But I've certainly been getting enough to eat though. :)

Day #3 has been a good one for me, now on to Day #4! Let's make tomorrow a good one. Woot!

Rosinante 08-05-2011 07:48 AM

Boom! Kablammo! Kerrash!
No, not the UK storms yesterday but me falling spectacularly out of my streak.

No point recounting what I ate and when, it was dire and disasterous.

Today is Day 1 of

No snacking.
Daily walk.
No dessert.
Remember to take supplements.
Cut portion size.

Onward.

Amarantha2 08-05-2011 10:04 AM

Woot on ye, 14-dayers JJJ2 and Rosinate!

Hi to Silverbirch if she lurketh!

Here's to Day 4 for JJJ2 and Day 1 fer Rosinate! These are good lists of goals ye folkettes have. Folkette known as Moi is also doin' well and am on Day 5 of at least TRYING to get a weekly average of 1600 and eating no Wally Triangle Donut.

To be honest, the food is a little high but feel good that I am really getting it down a week at a time.
