Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is shining but it is -18 wind chill this morning! :brr: Bob had an early appointment so is long gone. His secretary is gone for the week and the substitute knows nothing, so he's been doing a lot of little jobs that he normally doesn't have to do. I haven't decided what's on my agenda today. We don't have bell practice tonight so the day is my own; I should make a WM run. I was going to buy coffee and it was $9.99 the last time I was in the grocery store. Thank you Obama!
"Gma" -- I so sorry that Jack is having such pain. Did he try ice on his back? I didn't think pts use heat as much any more, but haven't had to visit one in a long time either. Hope you get the last sock done today without having too much pain in your hands and shoulders. Well, guess I will get dressed and unload the dishwasher for a start. Have a wonderful Wednesday and enjoy! :D Jean -- from :brr: Iowa! |
Wonderful Cold Wednesday
GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
It was in the 40's yesterday and today it is in the 20's. Burr. I am making today what I said I would yesterday. My plans were changed for Will wanted breakfast for dinner so it was easy to switch. I just know I have some frozen hash browns in the freezer but I couldn't find them last evening to make for him. Today I am going to re-arrange the freezer since things have been stirred up in there. Will doesn't realize that he should put things back where he pulls them out of.:p He thinks he does but alas ~ I can re-arange it and all is well. I just can't figure where those hash browns got to. He used some of the free coupons my leader friend out on the left coast sent me and we had some crumb cake that was delicious. Little 3 p+ squares of moist cake with crumby stuff in the middle. Yummy. He also got me some free candy and sf jello in tubs and some other items also. I sure like free. Jello and cottage cheese sounds like a good lunch. Beanie does a couple things that Ragg Mopp never did which are really neat. He pushes open the screen door to the back yard when the heavy door is open and goes outside. When he wants back in he will knock on the door. Ragg Mopp just sits at the screen door and waits for one of us to open it for him to go out. :o And when Will is out back and has one of the gates open Beanie sits inside the yard and watches him but doesn't jet out the gate and down the alley like Ragg Mopp does. We never could figure out why Ragg Mopp always wants to run and be free. It sure made him sick his last escape. I can't pet Ragg Mopp without Beanie coming right there so they both get equal attention for sure. I keep telling Beanie that Ragg Mopp was my first love and he just wags his tail all happy. Beanie has learned the sit part but has not figured out the stay part yet. He is still a baby. DONNA FAYE Girlfriend I know you wre such good care giver for Jack. I hope he gets through this episode quickly. :getwell: I am with him ~ I hate taking those pills which I call stumblers. Sox can wait when you are in pain. There is no hurry to get them done is there. JEAN That coffee shop places sounds like a neat place to grab a bite. The hospital where my mom lives has a Chef in their kitchen and serves such good food folks from town come and eat there during their lunch hour. They have a wonderful menu. Not many folks can say they go out to eat :hungry: at the Hospital but we did.:p GAIL & SUSAN Good day to the two of you. I am off to sort out the freezer. Type at y'all later. |
Happy Wednesday afternoon! The sun is shining! :) Yesterday afternoon, Wayne and I walked our 2.6 miles at the park although it was a little windy it was a very good walk. As I've said it before exercise (walking) is key to my weight loss...and of course not over-eating! ;)
This morning, I went to WW and lost a whoppin' .2 of a pound. I am fine with that. Well, not really but what am I gonna do? Walk more! Watch portions closely. And not eat so many bananas!! :D Maggie, I have to agree with Susan, FOR ME I have to attend meetings. But I agree with YOU that if you don't have a good inspiring leader then it can be like going to the dentist. (Hmmmm...I do remember you like going to the dentist!) ...gotta go...sorry, for the short and choppy post...but...I'll be back to finish up! :) |
I'm back. I heard a crash. Wayne flies this little helicopter in the house and I had to go see what damage he created. All is well...for him! ;)
Now is have to remember what I was going to type. Maggie, we all do what is right for ourselves when it comes to weight loss. It is our own personal path. We were talking this morning at the meeting how society helps/pushes our weight up; however, society surely doesn't help us take off the weight! In the end it is up to us. I've known you for a very very long time now (can you believe I'm turning 60 on the 11th of this month?!) and I know you know how to work the program. In fact, you could be a leader! Donna Faye, yarn!! I love yarn. You would love my guest bedroom! That's where I keep my yarn and all my knitting supplies (in the closet). I am addicted to collecting sock yarn especially. In my mind (yes, I know I'm a little obsessed) I tell myself I must buy this yarn or that yarn or some knitting book that catches my fancy because the day may come when I can't buy any yarn or books...and then were would I be? YARN-FREE! YARNLESS! Right now I've got two pairs of socks going. And I love KNIT PICKS! I get their catalogues espcially and I agree with you--that last catalogue is very good! I also got in the mail, YARN BARN. That is a very good catalogue also and I just ordered some pattern leaflets from it this morning. (I know, I know, I probably didn't "need" any of them...but one never knows!) How is your husband feeling today? Jean, I take WM means Walmart? If so, I'm there every other day since I can be there in under 5 minutes. A new Walmart was built in Middletown about two years ago. I buy a lot of my groceries (except the meats) there as I, too, have noticed groceries going up in price. Especially coffee. Which reminds me I need to put that on my list. Wayne has got to have his coffee each morning. Forgive my brain-drain. That helicopter fiasco got me off my train of thought. So Susan, Jean, Donna Faye, and Maggie, I'll be back again. I have to go back and read posts again to job my memory! Take care. |
Maggie -- Beanie sounds like quite the little character. ;) When we had Bob's mom to the ER, both times were on the weekends, so we ended up eating in the hospital cafeteria. On the Sunday we were dressed in jeans and sweatshirts while the majority of the people were dressed to the 9s having come from church. :o We just never think to eat there and we should because the food is really good.
Gail -- :congrat: on showing a loss today! .2 down is much better than .2 up! :cheer: The wind was strong today; we need to get back to walking again. I really like to walk in the morning but to get up and get going is another story. When you talked about Wayne and his helicopter, it made me think of the tv commercial where the dad drops the can of spaghetti sauce on the daughter's plate and then flies the helicopter into the china hutch. I'm glad you didn't have any damage! |
Good morning ladies! Jack has an early doctor appt this morning. He has his colon screening consultant to have his colonoscopy done. His back is feeling better now as he has been diligent about putting heat on it and taking the meds. He didn't sleep well last night but he said it wasn't from the back, so he said he is coming home and taking his meds and sacking out on the couch and sleep. I told him that was fine. I think I am going to go and get my hair cut all off. It really needs a dye job and I have the dye, but am going to wait and get it cut then dye it that way they don't cut off all the pretty dye I just paid for! I am hoping this gal or guy can do a decent job. I am going to yet another salon.
I went to sleep early and woke up around midnight so was downstairs and sat and watched boring tv and knit. Well it wasn't too bad. I watched a couple episodes of Bobby Flay's Throwdown and I think that is always a cute show. I think he loses more than he wins. I did get several rows of the sock done. I am determined to finish it this weekend so I can give them to her sometime next week after washing and blocking them. While I was up, I paid all the bills so we have a home, phone service, utilities, and spend all my credit at Target!  I actually rarely use it except to keep it active. I usually buy hair dye and dog food on it! Seriously though, I do like being able to pay about 98% online and not have to write out checks and make out envelopes. I only have 3 bills I can't pay online and have to write checks out. Jean: I can't believe how cold it is up there. We have the fans going here though I don't think we need the ac. At least my utility bill went down $75 from last month. Our heat costs so much more than the ac. The food at the hospital cafeteria close to our house is icky, but they do cater to black pallettes and southern pallettes a lot, which makes sense. We are just not big greens and grits eaters. Jack's back is coming along, thanks for asking. He did get a call from his doctor yesteray about the hernia. He isn't done with doctor's yet. He has something called schlatski's ring or something like that causing the problem. What they are going to do next is send him to a gastroentrologist and they will put a scope down his throat and look at where the damage is. I guess then can go through the mouth and fix the problem too. He has his knee appt next week so we shall see what is wrong with that and his hand at the same time. Gail: I am anxious to get started on the next pair of socks as I bought some cool yarn a few months back. I have to get poor Kelly's sock done though. I know a lot of people knit two socks at once, but I could never get the hang of that and like using dpn's instead of two circs anyway. I love seeing all the beautiful colors in Knit Pick's mag, but the only problem is, you go online and a lot of times they don't have all the colors that are in the catalogue. I am in a sock knittng mood and have been for a couple years now. I think it is because they are so easy to take places. I just take my yarn and don't have to lug all the bag and stuff like you do with sweaters and such. Beside, they make good presents. Congrats on your loss!!! Maggie: I am always amazed how different pets can be, especially the same breed. Marty was always a hyper yorkie, jumping on your and bouncing around and such. He would chase the squirrels out in his big back yard and chase their cat and such. Then there is Fortune who rarely barks, wouldn't chase any animal if his life depended on it and all he wants to do is sit on your lap. He is the quietest dog I have ever seen except if he wants something from you. He will go to the door and bark if he wants out and bark when he is ready to come back in. He is hilarious about having a bm though. He will go out and run like it is going to escape at any moment and get to a spot and no, that's not right, go to another and no that's not right, etc. He may got to 7-8 spots before he decides it is the perfect spot to go. It is pretty funny. I sure hope this med they have him on improves his kidney numbers as he shows no sign of being sick, which is good. I guess I am going to go and clean up breakfast stuff, unload and reload the dishwasher with the few breakfast dishes and then sit and knit for abit. I am not going with Jack to the doctor's so will go up in awhile and shower and dress so when he gets back I can go get my haircut. Have a good Thursday everyone! Faye |
Good Morning, Flowers! It's a gloomy morning in my corner of the world, but so far the freezing drizzle hasn't happened. We are heading to Sioux Falls after lunch as Ian will be in a school program this evening. It's a long drive for a half hour program, but we want to go. I'd like to check the mall and see if any spring clothes jump out at me. We are going by way of Sioux City to pick up Girl Scout cookies, both our's and Jason's.
Bob backed into a parking space last week and hit the edge of his bumper on a post. He has the sensors and camera but neither were in line to recognize the post. Later when he tried to open the tailgate, he had to force it bending the corner of the door not realizing the bumper was out of line. It all came to over $2000 and the bumper dent was so tiny. No lights were involved so that was good. I'm just glad he did it and not me! :twirly: "Gma" -- What does a colon screening consultant do? That sounds like a way to charge more for the procedure. :( I do hope Jack can get everything fixed so he's back to feeling good again. I'm sending good vibes that you get a good haircut -- good idea to get it cut first and then dye it. What color will you be this time? ;) I need to decide what to wear later and run a cleaning cycle on my washer. Hope you all have a terrific Thursday! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |
It's Thursday. Almost lunch time. All is quiet in the house. There is no small helicopter buzzing in the background. Wayne is elsewhere running errands. He asked me if I wanted to go with him. Obviously, I declined and opted for some quiet time supposedly to do some household chores. The washer is running and that's about it. I should take advantage of the time while he's out because when he's home I get side-tracked with his presence. :) Don't think that is a criticism because I don't mind getting side-tracked but then I don't get things done that need to be done!
Donna Faye, I have gotten back up many nights around midnight or later and have gone downstairs to turn on the tv and watch HGTV, Food Network, or Identification Discovery channels and knit. I've gotten some of my best knitting done at those times. I think I'm fond of small projects (socks, gloves, hats, dishcloths, etc.) because it doesn't take a lot of yarn and its portable. Then there is the (almost) instant gratification of a finished object. I also love knitting socks and gloves because I can be a little more spendy in the yarns without breaking the bank. For my sock yarn, it's got to have some nylon in it. For my gloves and mittens I love knitting with blends of superwash merino wool and alpaca or a wool and silk blend. Cashmere is a nice blend with the wool also. For me, it's not just the finished product its about the process. When I was in my 30's and 40's I loved to do counted cross stitch (especially reproductions of 17th and 18th century samplers) and then I got into crocheting and now moved into knitting. It's all repetitive hand work and I like it because it's soothing. I have panic and anxiety attacks so I find this hobby very calming. Jean, I've seen that commercial on tv and it cracks me up everytime. Thankfully, Wayne has never tried that! Wayne loves his tiny $19.99 helicopter so much! I keep telling him to invest in a larger helicopter to take outside. I think he gets a kick out of flying this itsby bitsy thing around me--he'll have it hover right in front of me...while I'm knitting! Anyway, he enjoys it and he thinks he's so funny and clever. :) My youngest granddaughter is a Daisy scout (she's 7 yrs. old) and we bought lots of GS cookies this year! Oh. I met some girlfriends for dinner last night. It was great! So was the food. I can't say I stayed on program. But I don't go out to eat that often so I don't get all anxious about it. I go. I enjoy the company. I eat food I don't usually eat. Last night it was crab cakes. Wonderful. Everyone take care... |
Thankful Thursday
GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
It is a calm day of 34 degrees as I type. No wind. How nice. On my agenda this day is to cook a whole chicken in my rotisserie. I will peal back the skin and rub spices on it then put the skin back and let it spin. When it is done I will skin it and we just eat the meat. We get about 3 meals out of the bird. I can make pot pies with some of it and chicken salad with some of it or sandwiches or there is a long list of what one can do with rotisserie chicken. I have a new glass project started and will be working some on it this day. I just received an email from that young man we let live here while working in the area and he is in DC now working for a guy in the govt. Through all that mess out there with the protesters he said that a bunch of the men group together to escort the women around. That is a good thing keeping those gals safe winding their way through the protestors. He sends me some of the inside "stuff" that doesn't hit the news.:p I miss not having him here.;) Will is back and brought me a chicken. He had to go to a couple different stores to find one that wasn't frozen. I have a frozen one in my freezer but didn't get it out last night to thaw in the fridge.:( So I now have a frozen one in the freezer for another day.:D GAIL :woo: Congrats on your loss. Every bit counts! That little helicopter sounds like a fun thing to have buzzing around the house. My brother had one ~ a real one and his buzzed around outside over hill and dale:o Your yarn sounds delicious. I love the different kinds that are available now. I have not knitted anything for years and am thinking of starting ad arian sweater with all those cables. I should have it done by the time I reach goal. I knitted one years ago and gave it to a gal that drooled over it (not literally) when we lived in MN. In fact that was the first thing I ever knitted. I started out doing cables. I actually have a picture of me wearing it and I was so thin back then. OH MY. I will get back down there in time. But I really think I will start that sweater. I could knit when I am not cutting glass. I will have to get a pattern and some yarn. I think I still have my needles and such. JEAN Have fun in Sioux Falls, SD. That is quite a trip. What's that about a hundred twenty miles or so to there? The program will be cute and worth the drive. Kids just grow up so quick. We didn't buy any scout cookies. Don't know anyone around here in the scouts and no one came to our door. Probably a good thing because those are yummy little cookies. My favorite are the Scotch Teas. But no cookies this year for this house. DONNA FAYE Watch out when Jack is all put back to exact. He won't know how to act not being in so much pain. Yep dogs of the same breed can be totally different. Beanie loves chasing our resident rabbit. You sound like you are feeling better and being all chipper. I hope your hair gets cut the way you want. I am with Jean, I also want to know what color you are going this time. I doubt if the gal that cuts my hair will be moving on or leaving for she is the owner of the shop. She has several gals working for her and has a tanning salon also. :o She is a fixture in this town as is the dog's groomer. :cp: Have a great day Magnolias unless you get a better offer. Type at y'all later. |

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
Will is out at his volunteer job at the museum where he gets to go through all the old court logs and posts them on a computer. He has come across some very colorful characters back in the old days. I am taking a break having my lunch before I tackle another chore. What I am having? ~ Well I'm sure you want to know this :p~ for it is one of the WW frozen meals. It is macaroni, cauliflower, and chicken in a sauce. There were just 3 small pieces in this one so I dumbed a can of albacore in it and upped the points from 7 to 10 but it was worth it. It will hold me over very well till dinner time. These frozen entrees always take me a bit of time to eat for I put them in my bamboo rice bowl and eat them with chop sticks. I have gotten real good using chopsticks through the years.:D I have a nice set of chop sticks that appear to be ivory but who really knows these days since they can make plastic look just like ivory. My cooking chop sticks are made of bamboo. Hope all is well with all of you this afternoon. OK back to give you a PS: I called the Heinz company that makes the WW frozens just to aleart them of the quality control issue with the lack of sufficient chicken in that entree. I was real nice about it and the lady said she was sending me some free coupons. So Magnolias, I suggest you give them a call for their 800 number is on the box if anything is amis with any of their products. |
Good morning to you ladies. It is cloudy and supposed to rain today, but it is fairly warm already. We are heading out in just a bit to pick up some stuff at Target and get some breakfast than back to the house. I am going to do some house cleaning and wait for Great American Home Store to call about delivery of our loveseat tomorrow.
I think I finally found someone to cut my hair properly again. She was young and did a great job. I came home and promptly put color on it (deep rich auburn it was called ladies) as the gray/white had grown out enough to may my hair look like I was half bald. The color came out terrific too so now I look human again. It is really short and back to being spiky the way I like it. I did have her leave the bang pieces longer in the front though. I have started a load of laundry and am doing sheets today. Tomorrow I am doing the comforter and bed skirt and hopefully Jack's back will be better by next weekend to do the carpets upstairs. Marty will be coming to stay towards the end of next week because they leave on their cruise a week from tomorrow. I hope they have a great time and Bookie really enjoys himself in the Carribbean. Maggie: I don't think I have ever seen the casserole type meals have more than 3-4 pieces of meat in them be they WW, Lean Cuisine or whatever. I think it is the way they keep the calories down. I would think except at a butcher it is almost impossible to find fresh whole chicken. I know I never see them anymore they are all frozen rock solid. Glad you got one and were able to cook it. I love my spice rub for rotisserie chicken. It comes out just like the store bought. I actually take the skin completely off and rub the spice directly on the meat and found it still tastes great. I have a sweater for myself part way done in a smaller size and need to finish it up too. I just always seem to have someone wanting something knitted. My dil wants these stirrip socks and some fingerless gloves and I have sock presents to make too. Jean: According to Jack it was a nurse practioner who saw him yesterday and just took his bp, listened to his heart and went over all the paperwork then explained about how the procedure went and what he had to do to have it done. We had to pay a copay for that appt. He now has it scheduled for a Friday in April. Next week is his ortho appt about his knee and hand. We had a to rent a car for next week as our Mariner has to go to the dealership. The transmission isn't shifting properly from first to second and though we bought an extended warranty, our initial one runs out in just a couple hundred miles so I want it in immediately. I told Jack to tell them it has to be done in that week's amount of time, period. I am not renting a car for another week. I don't think we should have to rent one period when it is still under warranty, but they don't give you cars to use like they used to. I don't know why, considering they sure aren't selling any! :smug: Gail: I used to cross-stitch too until my eyes got so it was hard to see to do and my hands would hurt stitching. I agree, I like quick projects where you see your progress right away. I got a giggle out of your hubby flying his helicopter around in the house. Well, the washer has stopped so time to get stuff out and put it in the dryer. Have a nice Friday and a great weekend all. We have commissary shopping this weekend and you know how much I enjoy that! Faye |
Good Morning, Flowers! It's another gloomy dreary day in my corner of the world. It is trying hard to do "something" outside -- the temperature is dropping and it is misting. I've been to get my nails done and stopped at the grocery store on my way home. We didn't get home until late last night; I told Bob maybe we should start staying overnight and come home early the next morning. The program was cute; there are 6 2nd grades and each child was to come up with a dog costume of some sort. Ian wore black pants, black sweatshirt, and Amanda made long floppy dog ears sewn to a black stretchy headband. There were some really creative cute costumes for the poodles (all girls)! We had to pick him up in his classroom afterwards and found out he had homework to do from the day before! I guess he shoves everything into his backpack including snow pants, wet mittens, etc. -- typical boy. Afterwards we went to the DQ along with several others who had the same idea.
Gail -- I hate those sleepless nights, but I don't have them very often. It's always fun to go out and eat with girlfriends. I've never had crab cakes, but we don't have a good seafood restaurant close by. Bob's 93 year old aunt, who lives a couple hours from us, likes to eat at Red Lobster so we try to go see her once in awhile. I used to do a lot of counted cross-stitch, but haven't for years. Maggie -- I'm not sure of the mileage but Sioux Falls is 2 1/2 hours from here, whether we go "over hill and dale" or take the interstate to Sioux City and then home. Ian was the cutest dog in the bunch last night! I've found several WW meals on the stingy side but never thought about calling them. Glad you got some coupons out of the deal. I am  as my wonderful PP+ calculator has quit again. I replaced the battery right after I got it in Dec., and now it won't work again. GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Gma" -- I'm glad you like your new haircut and bet you look snazzy as a deep rich auburn babe! :cb: I would think Jack is smart enough to read the literature and follow instructions precolonscopy. I'm sorry about your Mariner needing a transmission repair. Bob did get a loaner to drive while his pickup was being fixed. We've bought a lot of vehicles from them so there was no question that they would give him something to drive -- he didn't care what it was, and it turned out to be the Chevy version of mine. It was fun to compare the two. Several stores are having Warehouse Days trying to get rid of stuff that hasn't sold. I might decide to venture out this afternoon, and then again maybe not. Have a fantastic Friday and enjoy your day! :D Jean -- from Iowa! |
Thankful Thursday
GOOD MORNING MAGNOLIAS
It is lightly raining here in the Heartland. Off and on and on and off. I don't think it will really amount to much except clean and refresh the trees and bushes. I love how the rain washes the trees and such and gives everything a fresh look. :D Will is just back from his follow up look see from the knee doc and is doing great. Feels better than it has in years. That rotisserie chicken turned out so yummy. I am going to make a light version of Chicken Pot Pies with some of the left over chicken this day. Life is good. It is amazing how many points you can shave off of chicken by not eating the skin. The rub I use on the meat is called "Wild Will's Number Onederful Rub" which I got out of my SMOKE AND SPICE book by Cheryl & Bill Jamison. If you like smoke and spice I highly recommend that book which has sold over 750,000 copies. It is really easy to peal back the skin and put the rub right on the meat then replace the skin for cooking. I can't see putting spices on the outside of a chicken that I am going to throw away the skin of with all the spices with it.;) Time to re-arrange the freezer. I like to keep veggies, fruit and meat etc in separate places so I know what is in there. I have a box in there that I can stand up packages of soup, stew and beans in which keeps them corraled and easy to get to. Anyway things get re-arranged somehow.:p DONNA FAYE The gal I spoke with on the phone about the quality control did say that there should be as much meat in the box as it shows on the cover. So if the cover showed 5 chunks of chicken and I got 3 ~ something was not right. She also told me to feel free to call when I find anything else amis with the products for they want customer feed back; otherwise how can they make improvements. :p I bet your hair looks gorgeous. I love spikes. JEAN What a neat dog costume! I love seeing those kiddy programs. Take that calculator back for it has a glitch in it. I have heard that happening to others. I have two of them and they both work great on the original batteries. I keep one in the kitchen and one here in my office. I bought one before I found out they were giving them out free.:dizzy: If there is anything you need go to that Warehouse Sale but if you don't need anything stay away. That is my advice and I am sticking to it. For I could always find something I never knew before that I needed it.:p Hello out there  I am going now to tackle the freezer. Maybe I will wait till Will gets off the phone. :p It may be awhile since he is talking to Texas. Type at y'all later. |
Maggie -- The sun is shining here! That is a welcome surprise, however the wind is still cold. I took the battery out of the calculator and put it back in; now it is working again. :cp: I don't use it all that often so didn't think it would need a battery so soon. I still like the 'old' point finder, which I found much quicker and easier to use. :dizzy: I'm sure you are done rearranging your freezer by now. Good job to have done!

GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS
JEAN It stopped raining and is now in the 30's with the wind blowing. I rejoice with you geting your calculator working. Yep we got the freezer inventory done and I have it all typed up and alphabatized with the amounts of whatever it is in there. Next I will tackle the side by side freezer in the fridge which in which I keep small bits and pieces in bags in baskets which makes it easy to locate things. The door holds my parmesan cheeses and smoothie fruit in baggies. It will be easy to inventory what the baskets on the shelves are holding. I chop onion, bell peppers, mushrooms, celery and bag them up for a quick stir fry or to use in soups and keep them in the baskets. It will just mainly be re-arranging things in there. I love being organized. I hope everyone is having a lovely afternoon. |
