Ten Pounds at a Time #161 - New Thread for a New Board!

I thought I would start our first thread on the new board. Hope all of you find this!

Meigg:crossed:

Smiling Sal 10-31-2002 05:52 PM

OK I guess I'm back (again) I've been lurking for weeks and it was a nice surprise when I 'popped' back into TPAAT so see so fimiliar faces.

I am having an amazing week. Just need to keep it up over the weekend. Always has been my difficult times, along with the evenings, mornings, afternoons and the middle of the night. If I can just save enough points to for the wine I know I am going to drink I'll be laughing.

I re-joined WW 4 weeks ago and have lost - wait for it - five pounds. Could be better, but keep telling myself it could be worse too.

So seems like TPAAT has come back home to 'misc groups' right back where we were when we started, until Riddle pestered 3FC constantly until they gave us our own group.

I will try and get back over the next couple of days. It is lovely to catch up with everyone again

Meigg 10-31-2002 07:23 PM

Sal - 5 pounds! YOU GO!!!! Congratulations! Stick with it - I know weekends can be the worst when it comes to being good.

Sammy01 10-31-2002 10:27 PM

Thanks for getting the jump start Meigg.

I thought it may be a good idea to start a new thread every Monday on this group as I'm sure we'll get alot more traffic through our group by being on the Miscellaneous Board. I look forward to keeping in touch with all of you fellow TPAT'ers and meeting some new people too!

Hey Carol, nice to see you again. Congrats on joining WW again. 5 pounds in a month is a terrific rate for loss. Keep at it and be patient.

Hope you all had a good Halloween. I'm sad to say I let some Candy get the better of me (approximately 8 points worth) so tomorrow is another day and I journalled it and although I'm not pleased with myself I was at the very least accountable for it.

Talk to you all tomorrow.

Pam

Cool Mom 11-01-2002 07:46 AM

Good Morning!

Welcome back, Carol, and congratulations on a 5 pounds lost! It's not easy and you are doing great. Meg, thanks for starting us off in our new home.

We welcome new ladies to join us, especially if you are overwhelmed by losing dozens of pounds and would rather concentrate on shedding "ten pounds at a time" -- psychologically it works wonders! Together we share our struggles, savor each other's successes, laugh a little (OK, a lot sometimes!), motivate, encourage, listen, and suggest. If you don't enjoy the journey, you'll never reach your destination!

So, reading?? Pop right in and introduce yourselves!!

Hey, Pam, I hear ya about the candy -- I indulged in a few too many Twizzlers myself (but only had one tiny minnie Crunch bar :^: ). Tis another day, dear girl!

Didn't sleep much last night but work calls nonetheless; however, perhaps an extra few minutes of snooze is allowable. Night all!

Always, Terry

Where Am I Supposed To Post

Hey Ladies,

I think I posted in the wrong spot--is this where we are now.

I am not trying to go crazy posting in two different places.

Slim

Sammy01 11-01-2002 10:41 AM

Good Morning Slim and Terry,

nope you're in the right spot now, they're closing our forum sometime today and we'll be posting over here now.

Thank you for your support this morning Terry in regards to that halloween candy. I let myself get stressed/mad and just blindly grabbed and ate. I should know better by now! Here's hoping today is a bit smoother but we're having our inventory here at work so it's going to be a late night and then back here again by 8;00 tomorrow morning. I packed my own supper though so that'll help keep my points in order today.

Have a great morning all and I'll check back later,

Pam

Grandma G 11-01-2002 11:58 AM

Hi Ladies, I found you!

Just a quick checkin, I am busy cooking today - luckily I can't eat any of it. I am baking a 20 lb turkey and 2 apple pies for an organization we belong to that is hosting a turkey dinner tomorrow. It already smells too good though. It will make it harder to stay op.

I was very good yesterday. Usually on halloween I buy candy early, eat it all then buy more. Then eat the leftovers. But not so yesterday, the new me, restricted myself to two small pieces, a total of 180 cal. and then I put it away. I will give the rest to my grandkids. I am so proud of myself and it seems so good to be in control. I can't believe it. Just those two pieces satisfied me!
From reading the post it sounds like most of you did good too. Congratulations to everyone!

Well the Halloween challenge is over and although I didn't reach my goal of 10 lbs., I did manage to lose 7. Now I am ready to start the Christmas challenge. I plan to lose 10 lbs by Christmas. These little challenges really help me to stay motivated and focused. I know if I have too many bad eating days I will not reach my goal, so I think of that when I get tempted, and it stops me! (most if the time).

I am not sure how to set it up here, so I hope someone more familiar with this board will start the challenge.

:flow1:  Hi to everyone, I am so glad we still can post here because this has helped me so much with staying on plan. Just being able to hear what everyone else is going through and vent any problems I am having and get advice when needed. Thanks everyone! Good luck for an op day!

cat90 11-01-2002 12:31 PM

Good Morning Ladies..Hi Carol..welcome "home" :D Congrats on the 5LBS loss...and don't dismiss it like it's nothing..it's 5lbs of BUTTER that is no longer on your hips ;) and much better than 5lbs gained :bravo:

I'm sat here drinking my hot tea and i keep telling myself that i must start drinking water again ( and dieting and exercising )but..i just can't face doing it this time of year because it chills me to the bone  are you all "climatised" to drinking water now?

Are we starting a Christmas Challenge? maybe that will get me motivated again  it does'nt help that it is sweatsuit time of the year..i don't feel as "fat" in elasticated waist  maybe if i try on a pair of tight jeans every morning..that will help

canucksrus 11-01-2002 01:09 PM

Ugh - had this long reply typed out & then my 1 year old hit something & erased it all.

Anyway, hello & congrats to everyone who lost weight whether it be 1 pound or many more. I was watching TV one day & I think it was on an informercial that they showed a model of 5 pounds of fat & it was HUGE. I never thought 5 pounds was a lot till I saw that!

Congrats to Grandma G on that control. Nothing wrong with a small indulgence once in a while!!

I happy to say I met the Halloween challenge, but my goal was 5 pounds, not 10 since I started late. My weight loss has been stalled since the beg. of July despite the fact that I was still exercising, watching my calories, drinking my water, etc - so I would have been thrilled to see 1 pound at this point so 5 has really made my day! Can't wait for the next challenge! Hope everyone is having a GREAT day!!

Dahlia 11-01-2002 01:49 PM

Hello Ladies,
Congrats to all who made their goal for the Halloween challenge, I didn't make 10 but will take the 7...not counting a couple that are still yoyoing with me...:ink:

I made up a small bag for my two grandchildren for last night, and hubby ate the rest... I just kept it away from little old me.. I can't eat chocolate anyway, so no point in having it around... :jig:

Figured I may as well start out on this forum.. though I see our old one is still there today yet. I have this page saved on my favorites so it still brought me up to the right place. I am in on the Christmas challenge.. but it will be harder as it's almost time to start baking the cookies and fudges I usually make.. but think this year I'll do it closer to Christmas and then it won't be around to long..

I see my new doctor on Monday, so hopefully I'll get some med changes and or straightened out.... sure hope so.:stress:

Well, :grouphug: hope everyone has an *op* day, so far I am doing good eating wise... DH still has to adjust my treadmill so I can get back on it.... it is slow and jerky right now..:goodvibes O

ok, later
Dahlia

Smiling Sal 11-01-2002 05:07 PM

Been for a swim tonight - must mean it's Friday. Always used to go swimming on a Friday night. Not been for a while - on my own. take the boys every week, but I don't get a serious swim with them. But I went tonight and managed 20 lengths - half a kilometer. Will take a bit of practice to get back up to where I was before, the 20 lengths just about killed me. But I fel good for it now.

Wasn't dimissing the 5 pounds, I just wish it was easier.

But then if something is worth having, it's worth working hard for ....

Cool Mom 11-02-2002 08:37 AM

Good Morning!

Weighed in this morning and down 3 lbs for a total of 6.5 since I got back on track last month. I may not make my 20 lbs to meet my New Year's challenge but as long as it keeps coming off I'll be happy.

Everyone is so motivated this morning -- and Carol's back to swimming. Carol, that always works for you so congrats and keep it up! Canuck, kudos on making your goal! Grandma, you did awesome with the Halloween candy -- ate a few more Twizzlers than I should have myself but licorice is a weakness. I know, I know, I shouldn't have bought it just because of that! :dizzy:

Dahlia, down 7 pounds is great -- its hard work.

So much more to say but I have to be at work soon. Cat, once you get yourself motivated, you'll do great -- you always do! :) Pam, I miss you on the porch!

Morning Slim, Meg, Karie and gang!

Time to rock and roll -- have a wonderful weekend everyone and I'll check back in later. Big night at the Johnsons tonight -- Spiderman. Man, my husband knows how to treat his lady.

Always, Terry

cat90 11-02-2002 02:24 PM

Hi Ladies...Carol 20 LENGTHS  wow..i'm impressed :D Terry and Canuckrus..congrats on the weightloss ;)
keep it up.
Dahlia congrats on the 7 and for getting rid of the choccie's :)
Hubby bought me a ride on mower yesterday  even though i'm looking forward to using it..it won't help with the weightloss :p maybe i should tell him to hide it so i'll have to run around with the old one

Smiling Sal 11-03-2002 04:27 AM

Had too much wine last night - story of my life. Have to be honest with myself that I have really cut my drinking down - not that it was that bad before, but it wasn't helping my weight. Am only drinking one night a week, I didn't have that much but feels like I had too much. I don't really get hung over, no headache or dodgy tummy or anything like that. Just feeling really tired, we weren't that late home, but we're all dead beat this morning. The boys are vegging out on the couch watching a video and I'm trying to get some hand and eye co-ordination to type this.

Well done to everyone on their weight losses, I weigh in on Tuesday and am quite looking forward to it - how sad is that.

How was the video Terry, the boys liked the spiderman film, wasn't really my thing, but hey as long as you enjoyed it. A ride on mower, sounds like the height of luxury to me, I hate cutting the grass. Thank goodness it won't need cut here again until March

Need to go get some fluids, a bit dehydrated this morning

Grandma G 11-03-2002 07:33 AM

Hi Ladies,

Not understanding how things work here on Miscellaneous Clubs, I don't know if we can run more then one thread at the same time, so I will just start my Christmas Challenge right here!

Starting date 11/3/02 - 171

Nov. 8, 170, not much, but it's a start

Nov. 15

Nov. 22

Nov. 29

Dec. 6

Dec. 13

Dec. 20

Dec. 25 End of challenge weight! Merry Christmas

This is only one pound a week, I can do this if I stay motivated, and focused and keep my goal in mind - I know I will have to eat less and exercise more, I will do it, we all can do this together, come on any one who likes a challenge, join me - WE CAN ALL DO THIS TOGETHER! Lets get trimmer and more physically fit for the new year. Now is the time to really put our best effort into it.
 :cb: Good luck to all of us for an op day! an op week! and an op month! Just one meal at a time, one day at a time, one pound at a time. Any loss, no matter how small will be an accomplishment! Even holding your own is an accomplishment, So don't ever get discouraged, just keep trying! DON'T GIVE UP

:jig: Bye all, my treadmill awaits!

cat90 11-03-2002 02:04 PM

Hey Carol..i know that feeling :dizzy: you just feel drained of energy don't you? oh well..you'll be fine tomorrow..good luck at the weigh in :D
Grandma..yeh..you can start another thread for the weigh-ins which is easier really :D

I can't believe it..hubby was trying out the mower while i was out shopping and he reversed too close to the bank (only a little one..thank god) went A over T and the mower landed on top of him..cut his leg open but i was that mad when i got home that i told him i was'nt bothered about his bl**dy leg and was my mower alright..thankfully they both are ;) he's had strict instructions to play with the mower he bought for himself and to leave :nono: my little one alone  think i'll be mowing and pulling broom today..it's taken over again while i was AWOL

Smiling Sal 11-04-2002 04:23 PM

Good luck with getting rid of all that broom, once it takes root it never seems to go away. We have a similar problem with thistles in the back garden - not quite on the same scale as yours.

Have stuck to program today, but have eaten strange things, had two coronation chicken sandwiches and a mini mars bar for dinner - so much for being healthy.

Am feeling much better, but very tired. When the tumble dryer finishes I can re-fill it and go to bed - am just hoping it doesn't take too much longer.

Christmas Challenge

Hey Ladies,

O.K.-- I am ready for the Christmas challenge.
I have no idea what my current weight is, but I do fill like I have lost some weight, I was able to get some jeans on, with the zipper. I would like to loose 15lbs by Christmas, if I keep it up at the gym, I will make it.
Plus I started back with my points-I am sticking with it for the next two months, I am going to do this.
A new me for a new year, forget about the New Year's Resolution to get the weight off, I am doing it before and my resolution will be to KEEP IT OFF. so ladies, let's join forces and conquer this battle of the bulge.
Have a good "OP" day

Slim

Dahlia 11-05-2002 01:37 PM

Hi ladies,

Well, I met with my new doctor, he is much easier to talk to and he really did listen, so that is a plus. He said to take it slow and we started with blood work up today. He is evaluating my meds and I am to continue with my way of eating for now... and am to see him again in 6 months..or before if it need be. So we will see. He said he understands the frustration I am feeling but the main thing is to be healthy and to lose it healthily, is that a word?

Anyway, these next couple months are going to be miserable. Good thing I have my Christmas shopping just about done, cause DH is having knee surgery on the 20th of this month. And DS is having back surgery on the 4th of Dec. out of town. So I have to get him there and then get him home for 3 months of recuperating. My other DS and DGS are coming home on the 20 th of Dec. for 10 days for the holidays, my DS will be home from college on the 12th of Dec. and his girlfriend on the 21st. I will be very busy, hopefully don't give in to the stress and eat my way out of the old year... I am counting on you ladies to be my strength and keep me on the *wagon* so to speak. Course with running up and down the stairs caring for two invalids... I should get my exercise in. And with a two year old in the house.... oy vie.... :stress:

My scale is pretty much on target..with the doc's...so at least I know if it shows a loss it is true.... course other way works also.

Well, I have some work to do..so best get to it... will be glad with the new year here,, hopefully it will be a better one for us.

Hope everyone is having a good *op* day.

Dahlia:cb:

RubyBlue 11-05-2002 01:47 PM

 Hello
I think I found you gals in the right place now! Anyway 10 lbs at a time is the program for me so I thought I'd say hi. I'm hopin to actually lose during the holidays. I made it thru Halloween pretty safe so I do have a some hope.:)

Smiling Sal 11-05-2002 04:08 PM

Today has been so good it has been wicked. Lost 3.5lbs, been to the fireworks in the park - no bonfires this year due to the threatened firemen strike and I've had a doughnut - I am easy pleased.

Hope everyone else has had a good one

Hi Ruby

Karie 11-05-2002 10:35 PM

Hi everyone,

I am back and what a fantastic weekend! I was in Ottawa at an International Education conference. It was great fun and so interesting to meet other educators who are working internationally.

I did pretty well food wise. The workout room in the hotel was very hot so I found I could only stand to do 20 mins on the treadmill but I think I sweated off a few more pounds in the heat! The treadmill faced a huge window overlooking the Parliament buildings. On Sunday it was snowing and the view was breathtaking.

I am up for the Christmas challenge. I have to get off this plateau I seem to be on. I am aiming for 10 lbs. Is that almost a clothing size?

Welcome to newcomers and welcome back those who have been taking a break. Hey, Pam, Terry, Carol, Grandma, Dahlia, Meg, Cat and anyone else I missed.

Cheers,
Karie

slim4u 11-06-2002 09:31 AM

Good Morning

Good Morning Ladies,

I think I have this figured out , if i can jump on the computer right when I get to work I can check ibn before my day gets hectic and not have to worry about trying to check in when I get home in the evening, especially not getting off until 5:30, I hate going home in the dark.

Made it to the gym this morning--I am doing good, only did 35 minutes, but it was a hard 35 minutes-I still did almost 2.5 miles so that was pretty good, I have started doing a little running so that will be good.

Karie--That Education Conference must have been interesting
I hope 10lbs is a clothing size off that would be excellent on my part-I would love that.

Smileing Sal-Congrats on the weight lose-Keep It Up

RubyBlue--Welcome aboard-hope this is what you are looking for-it has worked for me.

Dahlia--You are going to be quite the busy woman-just do not get stressed out, we will keep you in our thoughts during your hectic time.

Well ladies, must get some work accomplished.

My nephew is in from MI-going to stay until Monday-so I will have company for a few days--my husband will be leaving on Sunday to go to Las Vegas-wish I could go, but was not fitting into my schedule-too much worry trying to wander about getting the girls to and from school-maybe some day I will get there.

Have a good "OP" day.

Slim

Smiling Sal 11-06-2002 12:52 PM

Just a quick hello = am taking the boys for their swimming lessons tonight. I don't really get a swim, just a splash around with one while the other has his swimming lesson - figure it is better for me than sitting on the couch.

Hardly sat still at work today, got to be useful towards burning off a few calories

Need to go grab something to eat so I'm not tempted by those chips when I come out.

cat90 11-06-2002 07:38 PM

Hi Ladies  welcome Ruby..Carol congrats on the 3.5lbs loss :cp: Karie..SNOW! Ottawa can keep it even if it does look pretty  not much to report..we finally had a little rain today after a really long dry spell..there was even a brush fire a few miles away this morning..it's that dry

Grandma G 11-07-2002 10:24 AM

Hi Ladies,

Things seem pretty quiet here in our new home, "Miscellaneous Clubs" Just a quick check in before I get to work on this house! It needs a good cleaning, and I am going to start with my gallery. I need to redo my wall displays Many things have recently come back from shows and I have an over abundance, with things piled against the walls. Not enough hang space! Between my paintings and dh photos.

Dahlia, it sounds like you have a rough time ahead. Good luck to all your family with their surgerys. My prayers will be with all of you. You have been doing so well, and I know it hasn't been easy, but you can do it, and we are all here for you when you need to sound off! I know the feeling of wanting to eat when stressed. That has always been one of my problems!

Ruby welcome, I think you will like it here, everyone is so friendly and encouraging. I have found it to be so helpful to me in my weight loss journey.

Karie, your weekend sounded both educational and fun. How is your work coming on you Christmas show? I still look forward to seeing some of your glass art. I can't really picture it, I don't think I have seen anything quite like what you described. When you get the pictures entered, please let me know how to view them. Last weekend was the public tv art auction. Usually I give several prints to it, but this year I didn't, so I didn't watch all of it (several nights), like I normally would. But from what I did see, things went very low, many of them way under value. Even some of the originals. It must have been very disapointing for the artist.

It is really cold here this morning. We have our wood fire going! We had some snow yesterday, but not much more then a ground covering.

Congratulations Smiling Sal on the weight loss, keep up the good work.

:cb:  Hi to Slim, Cat, Terry, Floridachick and any one else I missed, hope you all have an op day.

pooskie 11-07-2002 10:32 AM

Hi there--- I found you!!! I told you this was all new to me but here I am again and sooo glad I founf you. I'm going on a business trip with my husband on Sat. It's to Germany and we'll be there for a week. I plan on watching my sugars while I'm there but I know better than to set myself up. I seem to have more cravings since my Doctor took me off the estrogen. I was on it for 10 years so this is a pain to go through all this estogen withdrall again. Has anyone else had this problem? I will take the christmas challenge and will make up for the trip when I get home. Thank you all for all your kind words, I really enjoy reading what everyone has to say. Laurie

RubyBlue 11-07-2002 02:25 PM

Hi,
Thanks for the welcome. I finally hit my first 10 pounds lost today!:cb: I'm pretty excited. It was hard work and took about a month but it was worth it. I'm on my way & I can do it. Take care everyone.

Smiling Sal 11-07-2002 04:02 PM

Have a hard day eating wise. Have got the munchies now though - will need to go to bed very early so I don't can't eat all night

cat90 11-08-2002 10:59 AM

Laurie..enjoy your trip :) Ruby CONGRATULATIONS on your first ten :D got on the scale this morning and it ain't pretty  will be treadmilling this morning..no excuse..i was up really early this morning and i want to wear my 'thinner' jeans again so i'd better get moving..going to compile a folder of favourite meals too so they are alway's at hand and i've no excuse to make something fattening :D

Smiling Sal 11-10-2002 06:19 AM

Very quiet round here. Been feeling a bit under the weather, was a at bonfire fire party last night, which was fun, but I ate adn drank too much. But it was Saturday night.

Today is back on plan - it has to be, if I ever want to lose some of this weight

Sammy01 11-10-2002 11:11 AM

Good Morning All,

Carol, hope you're feeling better :) Darn Saturday nights!

Things here are hectic, FIL is still in the hospital, my sister moved in with us last Sunday for a week (she left yesterday) as she and her man were having some serious problems. So it has not been relaxing/restful at all! Work has been busy and I'm still behind on my course. ARghh! Oh well I'm just trying to take it one day at a time and do what I can. My eating has been better this week and I did get three workouts in last week so some things are improving.

Sorry to cut this short but we're out on our way to visit my FIL. I just wanted to check in and let you know I hadn't gone away. Take care all and I'll check back in later,

Pam

Karie 11-11-2002 09:41 AM

Good morning everyone,

Things are chugging along here. I am just sitting here waiting for the gym to open. Can you believe it? Holiday Monday and I am up at 6:00 am waiting for the gym?? DP had a very early shift this morning and we still just have one car. I just couldn't let her get on a bus at 5:00 am while I was snuggled up in bed. I am counting on this buying me big time points somewhere down the road :dizzy:

Eating is pretty good but I am suddenly having trouble getting in all the water. Used to have no trouble but my body seems to really be having trouble adjusting to this new size. I am hanging in tho'.

Started meal planning again to see if that would help me stay on the straight and narrow.

Pam, good job hanging in while everything around you seems to be in chaos. Sorry to hear about your sister. It can be so hard to watch sibs go through a tough time. Hope FIL is doing better.

Grandma, I am working on getting some of my glass up. That is testing the limits of my technological expertise :^:

Hi to everyone else, I am off to the gym so I can be sure to get my channels on the television while I do the killer eliptical

Karie

Been away for awhile, been having some personal problems, but I'm back now.
Tell me about the Christmas challenge.

Meigg 11-11-2002 10:12 PM

Hi everyone!

Wow, I feel like I have been away forever!

Hi to all the new folks, and congrats to everyone that has been losing. I haven't made it to the store in 2 weeks, so I have been eating very off program.

Things have gotten busier at work, and I just haven't found the time. I was supposed to go tonight, but had an unexpected meeting until 9pm. And then I got home and my husband is gone - no note. I hope he is just out getting dinner... :)

Anyway...everyone sounds well, and I am glad to be back. I will check in tomorrow.

Talk to you then!

Meg

Cool Mom 11-12-2002 08:15 AM

Good Morning!

Just wanted to pop in and say hello! Work has been busy and there seems to be no time for much else. Oh well, that's the story of my life -- everything is feast or famine.

Still plugging along here too on the weight loss -- made a great supper last night and it was every man for themselves. Marinated chicken breasts in a ginger sesame sauce and had rice pilaf (1 gr of fat). If we don't get our servings in before Chris (17 yr old son) hits the table -- we starve. Seems no matter how much I make it's never enough. He eats a pound of pasta himself. And, not one ounce of fat on his body -- all muscle. Don't know who he takes after -- certainly not me or the Pillsbury Dough Boy (aka DH!). What he can't read, won't hurt him! :D

Well, time's a'racing here and that means a quick post -- hope all is well with everyone and let's keep on keeping on!

Terry :)

Smiling Sal 11-13-2002 06:32 PM

Hello everyone. Has taken me a few days to get back to it, but today has been 110% on program.

Was away in a hotel with work on Monday night and it totally threw me eating wise. I could have eaten worse, but to flip the coin I could have eaten better too. The demon drink was the problem, yet again.

But today has been good - here's to tomorrow

Meigg 11-13-2002 06:41 PM

Good Evening!

I went to the store last night and got all of my food to start zoning again. It was nice and familiar. This morning I made my breakfast and gathered everything needed to bring my lunch. I am not even hungry - it is fabulous!

Going home from work soon to make dinner. Hope all is well with you...Sal - glad to hear you are having a good day, and that you got back OP so fast!

Talk to you all soon!

Hi all,

Just popping in to say hi and let you know I'm still alive and kicking. I'm feeling a bit better and doing better at being OP as of late. Weigh in last night at my meeting showed down a pound so I'm happy. My Saturday weigh in was down to 154 so I'm slowly closing in on my goal!

FIL is still in the hospital but progress is being made so we're hoping he'll get to go home next week. Sister is back with her boyfriend so the house is ours again save for the "fur" kids LOL.

Take care and I'll pop in again soon. I only have access here from work now that our computer is in the shop.

Keep up the great work everyone and lets not lose sight of our goals during the coming holiday season. That's the best gift we can give ourselves is to be Healthy.

Pam
