Good on you Julia... it all counts! I did get to travel business class several times when I had to travel a lot with work because I had so many FF points.. but haven't done it very often for personal flights! It does make it VERY hard to go back to economy... but the good news is that the return business flight was almost the same price as the one way, so next time I come back I will get to go business too!
|
Can I set you a challenge Julia?
I know you are doing the gym and all, and feel free to tell me to shut up if you like (or just ignore me), but can I set you the challenge to go outside and walk for 30 minutes every day until your holiday? I don't care how far that takes you, or if you do it in three 10 minute spurts. I just want you to realise, as I have come to realise, that once you take those first few steps out the door and onto the pavement, you are motivated enough to do the rest without even thinking about it. I tell you, it is getting out my gate that is the hardest part of my walks/bike rides...yup, even harder than THAT hill sometimes!!! Ok, I might be speaking totally from my butt here, but... ...think of it as part of the lifestyle change that you are wanting to make for yourself. Are you really wanting to include gym visits as part of the rest of your life? The way I see it is, going to the gym is something like a chore, going for a half hour walk every day can be many things other than just exercise. It can be walking the dog, taking a romantic stroll with 'the boy', having a chat with your best friend, going shopping, going to the bank, window shopping, etc. Going to the gym is taking time out of your lifestyle, taking a walk is including more into your lifestyle. Like I said, I could be talking out of my butt, but that is how I see it. Anyway, I am just back from my bike ride. And I think I am going to have to set 10.5km as my routine cycle now. The thought of going back to 8.8kms seems like a backwards step now that I have done 10.5kms for a few rides now. Tomorrow is a walk day, and I am thinking of trying a different route with that now too. But, knowing how anal I can be, I'll probably stick to the same route! Gen, when are you heading back to the US? |
I'm off next Thurs but promise I won't disappear!!
|
That's potentially good advice Lindor but I actually really enjoy the gym and I'm way more likely to hit the gym than to go for a walk outside. Especially in winter! Today is a nice day but yesterday for example was about 2 degrees outside and pouring with rain and sleet all day.
The challenge for me is getting to the gym. Once I'm there I'm fine and I love it so if I tell myself that as long as I walk for 20 minutes on the treadmill then that's all I have to do then I'm pretty likely to go. I've done well so far - did 40 minutes last night, mostly jogging on the treadmill and today I did a spin class at lunchtime. So day 1 and 2 get the big TICK for me! :twirly: |
Silly me!! I didn't even consider the weather, Julia. I guess that is a sign that I take Darwin weather for granted!
I've just walked 6kms...and I did do a different route! But, I didn't like it as much as my normal one...too many roads to cross, and more traffic. Shopping tomorrow after work and then a bike ride! Glad to hear you are going to stick with us when you get back to the US Gen. We've lost too many Aussie Chicks already :( But, I still hope that they will drop in again one day. |
Yes we really need to swap email addys so we can chase each other down when we go awol! Wonder where we lost Amy as well...??
|
I've got my settings so that if anyone PM's me I get e-mail notification of it.
I've just finished 10.5kms on Dixie! I am feeling dizzy today though? Maybe I need a day off? I will consider it. I am still going through some crap at work and I have to admit this afternoon (after work) exercise does help to clear my head of that too! Wow! Who'd have thought exercise could be that good for you huh? I'm making a pumpkin and zucchini cous cous hotpot for dinner tonight (and the next three nights too I no doubt!). It sounds pretty tasty looking at the recipe! I went shopping this afternoon! The 'naughtiest' item I bought was a 600ml diet coke! I was at the checkout behind a rather large lady and the items she was buying was shocking...blocks of chocolate, bags of chips, bottles of soft drinks, trays upon trays of meats! After a while of watching that go through and her trying to justify her purchases to the checkout chick ("my husband works hard" & "you only live once, might as well enjoy it!"), I realised I was staring at the exact reflection of what I was and never want to be again! Anyway, must go cook!! |

I am new to vegetarian dishes! I was the sort of person who could not eat any dish unless it contained meat! But, with my cholesterol scare, I have made the decision to explore vegetarian dishes and reduce the amount of meat I eat!
Anyway, I just cooked this White Zucchini & Couscous Hotpot and I have to say it was BEAUTIFUL!! And at under 450cals a serve it is just perfect! Just had to share! :dizzy: And, the decision has been made to have a day off of exercise tomorrow! I got a call from a friend I haven't seen in years and she is in town!! So, catching up with her tomorrow. Will probably mean eating out too...not sure I am happy about that, but what must be done must be done. |
Nice veggie recipe - zucchini chips.
Slice either diagonal or round 1cm thick slices. Roll in parmesan cheese with spices of your liking. Bake on baking tray (spray underneath on tray or use baking paper) for about 10 mins until browned. Eat alone or dip into pasta/marinara sauce. SO good, low carb, low cal. |
Yum zucchini chips sound good!
I made it to the gym again last night and did 15 mins walking and 15 mins cycling. Today is the last day of my challenge to myself so I've GOT to go again tonight! I've got a very busy weekend coming up and I'm looking forward to all of it. Tomorrow afternoon I've got a launch party for a new part of the business then I'm going to a friend's place for dinner and she's going to dye my hair for me. Saturday I'm working and then have an appointment at the beautician to get all of my waxing done and this time I get a free eyebrow shape which will be nice. Going to another girlfriend's place for dinner on Saturday night and then on Sunday I'm going to go on a shopping mission for prezzies to take to the US with me next week. It's nice to have so much planned - it'll make the time pass faster while I'm waiting for my holiday. :twirly: |
Hang on, what did I miss? You're going to the US? Where to and what for?!
|
As expected, Thursday was an 'off' day! But, I skipped lunch to account for my not doing any exercise!
It was great catching up with my friend. Dinner was a huge serve of fish and chips with half a dozen fresh prawns, that was very, very nice I might add, even if it was NAUGHTY! Yesterday was an unexpected 'off' day. I don't know if it was because I ate so much the previous night, but I had absolutely no energy from the moment I woke up! I struggled through 8hrs of work which I know achieved very little! Somehow I drove home safely. On getting home I just climbed into bed and slept right through until half an hour ago! I vaguely recall getting up at some point during the night to feed and toilet the animals. I feel better this morning, and I hope I can at least get on Dixie for half an hour this afternoon! I have my meals planned for today already! I'm going to try the zucchini chips one day Gen, they sound yummy! Julia, well done for sticking out your challenge! :) |
Went for a nice long walk with some hills with my super fit friend yesterday.. man the girl might have skinny legs but she can bloody walk fast! Did about 6kms I am guessing.
|
Well done on the walk Gen!
I'm just back from a 10.5km ride with Dixie. I told myself when I started that I wasn't going to push myself today, that I was happy with just getting out there. So, somehow my steady, not pushing myself ride produced my fastest yet average pace - 17.1 kph! I have been secretly struggling to get over 17 kph for nearly two weeks now, and today, without really trying, I do it! And I even gave myself a 30 second break up that hill! Weigh in for me tomorrow! Again, despite my indulgence on Thursday, I am hoping for - and expecting - a drop. Gen, I wouldn't stress about the small gain. Your body is probably still coming to terms with the fact that it had foreign bodies poking around inside it! It needs to adapt to the changes too! Hoping Ani is having a good time in Bali :) |
Weighing in at 104.6kg this morning. That's down 1.5kg this week, and takes me to 5kg lost all up (this attempt!).
|
Just back from my 10.5km ride on Dixie. I decided today I would 'try'. And today I averaged 17.9 kph!! I think it'll be a while before I beat that!
It's back to my regular routine tomorrow - cycle, walk, cycle. I've been kinda slack since my off days last week and have opted to cycle because it is quicker. Tomorrow I start the week with a cycle. I have also planned my meals for the week, and at this point I anticipate no disruptions to my plans. So goals for next week are the same as usual:
I hope to drop another 1kg by next weigh-in. |
Lindor, you're doing so great. 5kg in a few weeks is amazing! And you can just tell you're in the right headspace.. and doesn't it feel easy once you're on a roll.. if only we could bottle that feeling!!
We'll both be under 100 before we know it! I hope Ani has a fab time and comes back soooooon... I miss her! |
Just back from my 10.5km ride. Was a tad slower today 17.0 kph. More traffic on the road today so had to stop more, and Mother Nature gave me a strong head wind to compete with too!
I did a little shopping this afternoon too...and only bought what was on my list and a bottle of water! I'm cooking up a vegetable biryani tonight, and that should also fix me for the next few nights too. The recipe looks yummy! Hoping everyone else is doing ok :) |
God I need some packing fairies... how to fit such a large pile of crap into my suitcase..??@!?
|
Hi everyone, just dropping in quickly to say I am back from Bali and, having overindulged, am ready to join in. I weighed myself on Saturday when I got back - 90.7kg - and have been eating really well ever since.
I have to get ready for work, but when I get home I will read through the last month's worth of posts and catch up. But I just wanted to say hi for now :) |
Yay -welcome back, we missed you!@
I had so much to do today, got just about all of it done. Still have to head into the city shortly for my last checkup with surgeon before I head off Thursday. Packed my big suitcase up and shipped it off today - lazy and expensive I know but just couldn't face dragging it around all my plane changes. 100.8kg today with official 3-week checkin tomorrow morning! Hoping to definitely get under the ton by next week, that'll mean I'd lost >7.4kg in 4 weeks since surgery. |
Ani! So good to see you back here! You have been missed!
Did you manage to relax a little in Bali? And, more importantly, did you and your friend have a good time? I can't believe it's almost been four weeks since your operation Gen? I'm just back from my 6km walk! It was a bit of a sad affair today. I passed the police who had just pulled up on the side of the road. They had stopped to pick up a small dog that had obviously been hit by a car, or fallen off the back of a ute - it was dead. What made it even sadder, was the fact that the police officer who was picking it up was actually doing it with a little compassion, rather than grabbing it by the scruff of the neck and throwing it onto the roadside. It was almost as if he was treating like any other traffic accident that involved humans. Last nights vegetable biryani was very nice! And sure enough, I have enough to feed me for the next three nights. :) |
YAY welcome back Ani!! You have been missed and it's great to see you back :D
Lindor and Gen you ladies are both doing so well I'm so proud of you both! I'm off to Las Vegas tomorrow - holiday time! I have family and a friend there so am going to 10 days and then 4 days in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico before coming home. It's a well deserved holiday and I'm really looking forward to it. Have a safe journey back to the US Gen, I'll talk to you all in a few weeks when I'm back! :twirly: |
Sounds awesome Julia, have fun! It'll be hotter than the devil's toenail in Vegas.. enjoy the aircon!
|
I swapped todays bike ride with tomorrows walk. I'm going to be home late tomorrow so I prefer to ride the bike.
A pretty plain 6km walk today, nothing exciting to report. Julia, you've probably gone now so it's unlikely you'll see this before you get home again, but I hope you have a great holiday! And Gen! You fly out tomorrow? Hope you have a safe and comfortable trip, and we look forward to seeing you here from the other side of the globe again :) |
Hey Gen I felt really sad when I read about your mum. How are you travelling? I'm thinking of you, especially knowing you're headed back to the US tomorrow - that will be wrenching in some ways .
But it's great that you had the surgery and things seem to be going in the right way. At least you've had a win there! Lindor I've caught up on all your news. It's great to see you being motivated and working hard. Hope I can catch the bug ;). I've been good this week, eating really healthy food, and being conscious of everything I do. I had two bad falls in the last week. One was in Bali where I missed a step and bellyflopped onto the cobblestones. Battered and bruised! Then yesterday I did it again, and re-injured my injuries - and gave myself a couple of new ones. I really, really REALLY need to get new glasses! Lindor I have high cholesterol (apparently hereditary in my case) and I lowered it a bit with proper food, but I ended up having to go on medication. I don't like taking pills but it has got my cholesterol to a healthy place. But reducing red meat will help a lot. Anyway, I am off to play Tiger Woods Golf on my Wii - even though I feel battered and bruised, it will distract me from feeling sorry for myself. Gen have a safe flight, and take lots of care!!! |
Thanks Ani :) Yes, it feels weird and it's going to be hard in some ways to leave Mum here.. but she's coming with me too. Just hard to realize there won't be any more phone calls from mum once I get home. :(
Wait til next week when I'm complaining about work and being busy, but right now I can't wait to get back to my boys at work. Brain has been stagnating for months... getting dumber. Almost completely packed... just have to jam a few more things in tomorrow morning! Smooches ladies, will talk to you from the other side. |
Made it :) Slept almost all the way, trip was great. Felt bad, my friend that picked me up brought bags of groceries for me.. none of which I can eat!! Haha.
|
Hi there aussie ladies! (and any lurking aussie lads) :D
|
I'm under 100 today... 99.8kg...yay!
Hi summershine :) |
congratumalations Augigi! :D
|
WOO HOO Gen, that must feel good :carrot:. How was your trip back to the US?
Hello Summershine, and welcome to Aussie Chicks. We're usually a pretty friendly (albeit small) group of women, and we love it when someone comes along and joins us. Feel free to jump in at any time - we'll give you any support we can, and heaps of encouragement. It's my weigh-in tomorrow, so I am hoping for something positive! Will let you know in the morning. |
I'm officially stuck!!! 99.6 seems to be the new comfy spot to be in, not that I'm terribly comfy there!!! I get on a roll then it all stops for a while, I've been hovering around for three weeks now. Oh well least its not up!
Haven't been back to read everyone's post but I hope you're all doing well. XX Barb |
Oh jinx Barb, I'm 99.6 today too! Weight twins!
Ani, trip was great. Just trying to get back onto proper time now. Got my stupid ex roommate coming this morning to move her **** out of storage.. might go out while she is here. I finally drove down to the park in the middle of the city (like, 10 mins drive away) and went hiking some trails for an hour or so yesterday afternoon. Its seriously like being out in the woods, but at certain points you can hear car noise and you realize the freeway is right there... odd. Only saw about 8 people with their dogs, very peaceful. Will post some pics. Thinking I might head back and try a different trail today, but waiting to see if the rain's coming! |
I'm down a kilo - weighed in at 89.7kg this morning.
This week's goal is to work towards an even lower result next Monday. And my plan is to eat as much fresh fruit and vegetables as I can, and to learn to cook something new. I'm not a good cook, so I have set myself a challenge to learn to make something new once a week. I am counting calories and trying to move as often as possible. At the moment my motivation is 'average' - and I know that at times like this I just need to keep putting one foot in front of the other, and just do it until my head catches up with my actions :dizzy:. Barb don't lose heart, you are under 100kg and that's a good thing. Gen I have no doubt that your body is just getting used to a different environment - next week you will probably blitz it! Lindor where are you? |
Mista died today :(
|
Oh Lindor, I'm so so sorry. I don't care what anybody says they may be animals but they're also family. Hugs to you. :(
|
Lindor it's weird that when you hadn't posted for a few days it crossed my mind that something might be wrong with Mista.
It's very sad, and I know you'll be devastated - but please know that all us Aussie Chicks are with you in spirit, and that we're all thinking of you . On a far more trivial note, one of my teeth broke in half today - and it's going to cost me $500 to have it fixed. There goes my tax refund!!! |
Oh no Lindor, I was just wondering about Mista. I'm so sorry! What happened?
Ani, I'm fine with my loss - I'm going about 1.5kg a week at the moment, so I can live with that. That is basically without exercise so I am stepping that up starting this week! I do need to eat more too, so hopefully tummy settles more each week and lets me tolerate more good stuff. |
