  • Good Morning, Flowers! The sun is shining brightly right now, but the weatherman says rain is getting closer. Bob watered flowers last night, and our yard has some brown spots already. After the snow melt this spring I'm surprised at the cracks in the lawn. I'm off to get a haircut and then babysit the church office. The minister called last night and the secretary's mom wasn't expected to live through the night. I don't mind except I wish there was something that I could do besides answer the phone, which hardly rings, and read magazines.

Maggie -- Congrats on losing 2#s! There are a few things I don't put in the dishwasher. For whatever reason the silverware knives always have streaks/spots on them. I don't think the holder is as big as on my other dw, so there is more crammed into a smaller space plus it's on the door which I don't especially like. It's another "open window" day here!

Susan -- We had a tragic drowing in our lake yesterday. They are dredging the lake and there are floating pipes w/ warning buoys that boats are supposed to stay away from. If they are pumping the pipes go under the water and you can't see them; if they aren't pumping the pipes float on top of the water. Anyhow, the boat hit the pipe or the buoy, not sure which, and it flipped the motor into the boat on top of a 10 year old boy. I'm guessing the propeller hit him; he died here in our hospital. There was another child in the boat that was hurt but not seriously. I'm not sure where/who named Kolby's baseball team, but you'd think they could come up with something more appropriate for little boys.

"Gma" -- Good luck with your new program! It's so funny to listen to the grandkids on our answering machine. It's Bob's voice and they think he has answered so start talking. When he doesn't talk back they yell "nobody's there!" to their parents. Ian used to call and make baby sounds before he could talk. I tried to save it but somehow it got erased. Your soup recipe sounds good, but I've never heard of textured vegetable protein. Do you get that at the grocery store or health food store?

I have a pile of magazines to load in the car and drop off at the hospital on my way coming or going, then I'm on my way. Have a nice day!

    Jean -- from Iowa!
  • Jean: I had to come back in here and adjust the serving size as I just finished cooking the chili and it makes more like 5- 1 cup servings than 4. Anyway, I get it in the freezer section and in our Krogers and it is where they have breakfast foods and such, but for some reason the commissary had it with the bagged salads????? Just look around in the freezer section where you see veggie hamburgers, veggie sausage and such and you should find it. Mine came in a box. It looks likes scrambled hamburger. I guarantee Bob would not know it is not hamburger as long as he doesn't see the box! lol This makes a really nice flavorful chili and you don't miss any flavor making it this way. Like I said, I just finished my batch and tasted it just to make sure it is done and it tasted terrific.

    GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS

It is a bright beautiful day here in the Heartland. Got my hair cut this day and it is short like I used to wear which I call a palm tree. Little work in the summertime. Wash and go and the wind doesn't destroy my do. We went and picked up the flat bed trailer a from a friend to haul away some trimmings to the dump. It will make that corner of the yard look much better to have all that gone. Being on program is paying good dividends. Not just by losing weight but the “you can order that rotisserie you want if you would like.” Oh yes, and while I can get free shipping it will save some money. I had one before and just about used it up when I had to give it away to downsize. But since we don’t plan on ever living in a MH again I can get the appliances that I “used” back then. This is a vertical rotisserie that is easy to clean, relatively quiet running and comes with baskets and skewers to cook various cuts of meat and veggies. One of the great features is the drip pan at the bottom that catches all the grease drippings. One of the things I think prompted Will to want me to order one now is he asked why I never made “such ‘n such” anymore. Well I no longer had a easy way to do that. I’ll certainly not buy all those things I used to have but never used. If I don’t use something it is outa-here. Did I say that before? I probably told you about the rotisserie also. Well it is a fact. Don’t get me wrong for Will gets the things he needs also and always at a discount. He told me last evening he would get 20% off the skill saw he wanted. Today he went in to buy it for doing his wood thingies and when he went into the place he buys all the stuff (he has spent a bundle in that store) for fixin’ up this place for they had the one he wanted. He went in he asked for the manager who always waits on him. He happened to be busy at the time so the two clerks wanted to help him. He told them that he wanted the saw discounted and that is why he needed to talk to the manager. The gal asked him what he was willing to pay for the saw and he quoted her a 20% discounted figure and she rang it up and said, with a big smile on her face “sold to you at that price.” Such a deal. Life is good. This will help him a lot to cut out the pieces he needs for those cute wooden things he builds. A skill saw will make it so mich easier.

JEAN That is tragic what happened at the lake. My heart goes out to that family. Do you have a good product you use for the rinse cycle in your dishwasher? Sometimes when that gets low or the lack of that makes water spots.

DONNA FAYE Thanks for the heads up on what Veggie Protein is. Makes me think if they don't have it around here I can crumble up some of the Veggie Burgers in that soup. It is very hard to get some products here. We get that "never heard of it" routine a lot or the "our supplier doesn't have it on their list." We can't find whole wheat philo dough here for instance.

SUSAN Hello to you this day. Hope all is well in your corner of the world.

Have a wonderful evening Magnolias. Type at y'all later

  • Good evening, ladies. Clouding up for our nightly thunderstorm. They are supposed to last another week.

You can get Bocca Crumbles in the freezer section. It looks like cooked hamburger and is tasty. I also buy Red Mill TVP in the health food section. You reconstitue it in water.

Jean, what a horrible accident. The Coast Guard is busy here in the summer with boating accidents. You're going to have to take up a craft you can carry along.

Maggie, you have more gadgets! I'm giving them away as fast as I can. Too much stuff I don't use anymore taking up space.

Faye, thanks for the chili recipe. I saved it to try when I get some TVP. I love chili. Little kids are so funny on the phone.

    Have a good evening!
