New CANADIAN SPRING Thread

:welcome: to our New CANADIAN SPRING Thread ~ the majority ruled and so we will have a four-season thread ... kind of fitting since we are from a four-season country, after all ...

Decided to start the spring thread for April 1st as most of the country will start spring in this month. Most of our snow is gone here too and we are in northern Ontario. We did have a bit of snow last week, but it is almost all gone now. We had lovely weather today ... 60 F which is pretty warm for here right now, so it feels kinda like spring too.

Hope you all have a great April Fool's Day -- do people still pull pranks on each other that day or is that passe now? As long as no-one gets hurt and they are all in fun, I think they are OK ... :D

2b125by46 04-01-2010 04:50 PM

I am the first to find you, how cool. It is a lovely day here in Wardsville but I did sleep most of it away. Nights suck!!!!!

I failed on my first day of Atkins so I have started again. I find Atkins easy but you have to have the right mind set. Since today is the first day of the month and my horoscope said today was a good day to take charge of my health. I figure I will listen to the stars

Justwant2Bhealthy 04-01-2010 09:40 PM

Glad you found our new Spring thread -- we had an unbelievable day today ... not like spring, but like a hot summer day with lots of :sunny: -- and the temps were pushing to 77 F at one point in the afternoon. Later, a breeze came and the temps dropped down to 60 F in the shade but it was still nice.

We went for a drive in the country to scout out some stones and pebbles for my planting pots which I want to start tomorrow. HAPPY EASTER WEEKEND to everyone here -- Spring and Easter go together well too, I think ... :D

Hope you all are having a wonderful week too; take good care ... Rosebud :flow1:

Isn't this weather incredible! Today is going to be full summer. I plan to be outdoors as much as possible, maybe even power-wash the decks. Last year on this day I was salting and chipping ice from my side walk! This year the crocus, snowdrops and scillas are in bloom and the buds on the maples are popping. It's nuts!

Enjoy and Happy Easter, everyone.

Judy Lynn 04-02-2010 12:53 PM

Nice to see a new Spring thread here. I'm jealous of your warm weather in Ontario. It has been nice here, but not that nice!

Nice to have a long weekend this weekend. I am going to work on our taxes and get a few things done around the house. Even though I work in an accounting office, I prefer to do my taxes at home. I figure I don't need all my co-workers knowing my business.

We are thinking of going to Hawaii in December, so that is a little extra motivation to take some more of these extra pounds off. Didn't one of our Canadian members just return from there? Wonder which island they went to? We will probably visit Oahu, evne though we have been there before.

Happy Easter weekend everyone. :easter2:

Aunty Jam 04-03-2010 12:42 AM

Yay spring thread! :) I'm hoping that warm weather in Ontario will hold out for another 2 weeks... I'm in Hamilton the weekend of the 17th for my cousins wedding. I still haven't bought an outfit to wear or figured out what I'm going to do with my horrible hair :( I used to have some hair curlers but haven't seen them since our last move. I'm not good with that kind of stuff so I'm in a real pickle since this wedding is real fancy dancey. Ack!

Justwant2Bhealthy 04-03-2010 10:57 PM

RUTH ~ yes, last year we were mountain deep in snow, but when I was filling up NIKO's water pail today, I noticed that my gardens are in bloom! I have flowers! :carrot:

It was very hot today with full :sunny: and some nice wispy clouds and a very strong wind ... that made it like a sand storm at some moments. It was a good thing we had some breeze, as it got up to 83 F in town around dinnertime, but then later on, some clouds rolled in and we just had some :rain: to cool things down.

We spent part of the day doing yardwork -- well, DH did whilst I supervised; he really needed help getting things organized in the back yard. We go through this every spring and now it looks neat and tidy again. OK, so I had to shake my cane a few times, but who's counting? Just kidding ... haha!!! Actually, DH appreciates the helpful tips as organization is not one of his strong points. I also cut DH's hair today, as it really needed it -- he was starting to look like a retired hippy ... ;)

Hope you all have a HAPPY EASTER!!!

Justwant2Bhealthy 04-05-2010 08:48 PM

Ooops ~ I must correct that last post -- I have flowers coming up, they aren't blooming just yet. I was so excited to see them and I checked on them today again, and I have even more coming up now. We had some :rain: for the last couple of nights and that is really helping. Even though we have cooler temps, the :sunny: was out on and off all day today so that was really nice for Easter Monday ... :D

I made a nice shoulder Ham for dinner yesterday and we had that again today but with potato scallop with carrots, and broccoli and salad tonight. I had lemon pudding for dessert just now and DH had his favorite chocolate pudding.

Hope you all have a wonderful week coming up ... Rosebud :flow1:

tamaraj 04-07-2010 12:07 PM

Good morning ladies!

I can't believe this is my first chance to get on 3FC this month! Busy Busy!

I have my weekly weigh-in/measurements at HM today, so we'll see how I'm doing at lunchtime.

I went on Monday and had lost a pound over the long-weekend so I was at 206! Not far to ONEderland!

Hope everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather. I got new black/stainless appliances on the weekend and yesterday got beautiful new ceiling fan in my master bedroom. Getting ready to paint and tile the kitchen once I figure out the colours. I really want to replace my cabinets as well, but that may have to wait a bit.

I'll update my ticker once I get my weekly update at lunch.

Have a great day!
Tamara

Justwant2Bhealthy 04-07-2010 09:53 PM

 Had a lovely :sunny: day today with a breeze so I hung out some laundry; and the temps have dropped a bit tonight, but hopefully it won't get too bad becuz we really don't want any of that white fluffy stuff right now. Just had a quiet restful day at home; sure needed that.

More flowers are coming up in our side gardens. Hope you all have a great day tomorrow ... Rosebud :flow1:

Aunty Jam 04-10-2010 01:20 AM

Hey everyone... anyone miss me? Things have been super crazy lately.

Justwant2Bhealthy 04-10-2010 10:27 PM

 HI AUNTY ~ yes, it was getting kinda lonely around this thread; glad you are back visiting again. We had a terrific ****** storm up this way for 2 days straight, but thankfully we have our :sunny: back and it is melting again.

However, there was a bonus from this storm -- we had a bunch of flocks of different birds come back to our feeders as they all needed food during that cold spell ... lots and lots of Sparrows, Junkos, Starlings, Doves, Grackles or Blackbirds, and Robins. Bet they were wondering why we had such bad weather when they came back up here to have their babies ...

It seems this happens every year now; late snows in April, but thankfully they don't last too long. We finally found a new vacuum bit it took awhile; tried it out and it works great -- couldn't believe what we weren't picking up before ... :yikes:

So the sun is supposed to be back for about 3-4 days -- I hope they are correct about that. HOpe you all are having a wonderful weekend too ... Rosebud :flow1:

JennyG 04-10-2010 10:37 PM

Hey fellow Canadians!! I'm from PEI! I'd love to join ya's for a "seasonal" chat!!

srmb60 04-10-2010 11:56 PM

Well! Here you all are! Hello!

Justwant2Bhealthy 04-11-2010 08:21 PM

:welcome: JENNY ~ wow, you are doing great; congrats on that huge loss so far ... mind sharing with us a few tips on what you are doing? :D

HI SUSANB ~ yes, we started up the new Spring thread; hope everyone find us here. I know it's spring and when the great weather comes, we all start spending huge amounts of time outdoors and in our gardens, so I am reserving my evenings for coming in here; it works for me ... ;)

 to all our other Canadians out there; hope you all have a wonderful week, coming up ... Rosebud :flow1:

srmb60 04-12-2010 08:36 AM

Good morning! It is lovely here the last couple of days. It's so nice to run errands or go for a walk with just a sweater. Does wonders for my attempts to get some nice calming exercise in and/or soak up a little vitamin D.

Aunty Jam 04-12-2010 11:54 AM

Gah! So I went out and bought a fancy silver and black hair clip for that wedding next weekend. Forgetting of course that I planned to wear gold jewelery. We're flying out Thursday morning... maybe I'll just cut it off and wear my gardening hat, I'm sure that would go over really well.

retiredone 04-12-2010 04:48 PM

I've been lost in cyberspace. My computer hit the dust a few weeks ago and I now have a new Dell laptop. I was away for a week visiting BabyGS and his parents and didn't do much posting then either.

Our weather hasn't been as warm as Ontario but the snow is just as good as gone and I can wear a lighter jacket when walking. I was out in the yard doing some work today. It wasn't too cold but the wind was blowing a gale. I needed rocks in my pockets to keep me from being airborne. I'm going to try and spend an hour or so every day until the yard looks like a yard again. I have neglected it for a few years and many of my perennials are almost choked out with weeds but they are still salvageable. And I'm going to plant a small garden with food greens so I'm going to start digging out a small plot for that.

Oh, yuck. I'm watching the weather report and we're promised rain mixed with snow tomorrow. Hope that stuff misses us and goes off to sea somewhere.

Glad it's spring. I'll catch you later.

Justwant2Bhealthy 04-12-2010 07:51 PM

 I had a wonderful day today: upon waking, I felt impressed that today was the day that I should brave my scale again and I got a wonderful surprise: I have finally hit the 200's after 18+ years!!! :carrot: :broc: :cb:

I had made some changes this winter and it has all paid off; this is a great encouragement to me to keep on, keepin' on!

Nice to see so many of our Canadian friends back here to visit. Most of our latest snowfall has melted and lots of the summer birds have returned. We have Robins, a flock of Tree Sparrows, Grackles or Blackbirds, and more Starlings and of course the house Sparrows and two kinds of Doves are still here. It might be too early yet to see the red-winged blackbirds and Swallows yet though ...

My flowers are OK despite that last snowfall; it seemed to just blanket them and they look alright to me. Hope you all have a great week ... Rosebud :flow1:

Judy Lynn 04-13-2010 10:46 AM

We had some snow yesterday too, it didn't stay though. Today it is raining lightly, overcast and cold. Brrr! I am ready for Spring. I am impressed with you ladies and your gardening. Our yard is still a mess from the Winter, haven't been out there at all. We have one corner where all the neighbours loos garbage seems to blow in.

I am really looking forward to the end of April, which is the end of tax time. I work for an accountant, so we are slammed. Seems worse this year as we have a new person in the office.

WTG Rosebud! Nice progress! :carrot:

Well, have a nice day everyone!

Aunty Jam 04-13-2010 11:51 AM

Congrats Rosebud, you rock!

I really wish I had a Tim's honey-lemon tea right now :( I know my boss would just tell me to make a quick Timmies run but I don't want to go outside. So I'll have to settle for water with a crystal light.

Haha... my sister was excited to see me the other day. She says "You haven't seen me since I've lost weight!!!", she takes off her jacket with her back to me then turns around with her arms up in a ta-da! stance. Then her eyes bulge, her mouth drops open and she says "You've gotten skinny!!!".

Justwant2Bhealthy 04-15-2010 08:56 PM

Well, to quote Elvis ... THANK YOU, thank you very much! ;)

It's been a long battle, but it has had a good purpose -- it has given me time to learn other ways to deal with my emotions, other than with food! Plus I learned what foods are my triggers; but I still lost inches along the way. I stalled, but didn't have a complete plateau since I still had those NSV's. My clothes are looser -- I lost a size on top and bottom, and that feels good too! :D

We had a couple of busy days; we went up town yesterday and got some black earth/compost soil for our gardens, plus some onion sets and a few more seeds. I decided with prices of veggies out there, I will grow all the EZ stuff here. DH said he will help me a bit too.

This AM, I did the floors: dusting, sweeping, vacuuming and that took all morning (great exercise but tiring, so now I'm resting). WE had leftover roasted chicken and veggies for our dinner tonight.

Hope you all have a FABULOUS FRIDAY tomorrow; take good care ... Rosebud :flow1:

retiredone 04-16-2010 04:30 PM

Rosebud, you are doing great. It's so good to see progress, isn't it.

We had a snowstorm, freezing rain and rain today. Everything is mucky and slushy but the snow is almost gone again. That really put a damper on my walk today. I"m going to try and get on my stationary bike before bedtime. I'd rather walk.

irishsarah 04-20-2010 09:45 PM

I don't mean to bust in on your thread, but it just made me smile so much I couldn't help it! My family has our papers all turned in to become "permanent residents" of Canada. :D I am so excited I can hardly stand it. I've been working for some time now for a Canadian production company from my little computer on the other side of Lake Erie and now it looks like we will finally be able to make our big move up to Nova Scotia this fall! :carrot: I am trying to use that as my motivation to get this weight off!

Anyway, I am sorry to break into your thread since I am not yet OFFICIALLY Canadian, but if it helps, my grandparents settled in Montreal before coming to Ohio and my best friend lives in Saskatchewan! LOL!

Justwant2Bhealthy 04-21-2010 10:49 PM

:welcome: TO CANADA ~ IRISH SARAH ~ well, you are almost living in our country and hope to be citizens soon ... so that's A-OK with us. Actually, anyone can post in any thread here -- we are glad you have dropped by for a visit and hope you do so again ... ;)

We just had a quiet day at home as it was bit cold with some very small ***** flakes that fell but the :sunny: did peak out and melt it as it fell so we don't have any now. My tiny yellow and purple crocuses have been blooming for the last 4 days or so; but the cold weather hasn't hurt them -- so glad for that.

We were busy on Monday and Tuesday, but I just did light housechores today. Gotta go do some more catching up. Take good care ... Rosebud :flow1:

ap90 04-21-2010 10:54 PM

Hello! Just wanna introduce myself. My name's Amy and I'm from Vancouver. I hope to join in on this thread as often as I can!

While I'm here, are any of you from Montreal or anywhere nearby? I'm going on a vacation there next week and wanna know what kind of clothes to pack!

Athene 04-21-2010 10:56 PM

Hi everyone! Just found this thread! woohoo!

I am in Calgary, am I the only on on the West? I don't have an oilsands pond in my back yard, so I think we will get along just great!!!

TOday was a BEAUTIFUL day in Calgary:) sun is shining, a small spring breeze that isn't too cold, or hot. I love this weather! No flowers here yet, but I did notice today that grass is now almost half green half brown :) hehe

Rosebud, congrats!! that is so awesome!! Yay YOU!!

Sarah! Woohoo!! Do you have an idea when you will be moving? and a place to live already? Or do you get to house shop?!

tamaraj 04-22-2010 10:23 AM

Good morning everyone! Hope everyone is doing well!

Athene: I am also in Calgary. I'm very much enjoying the beautiful weather we're having and DH and I are excited that they've started sweeping the streets. The motorcycle is much more fun when there isn't so much gravel on the ground!

ap90: Hi Amy from Vancouver. I hope you have fun on your holiday to Montreal!

irishsarah: Welcome to the Cdn thread! Always glad to have new friends! Good luck with your move to Canada later this year.

Hope everyone is doing well! I had my five week update at herbal magic yesterday. Official weight 201.4! Yeah! So my totals are 17.8lbs and 30.75" in five weeks. Loving this program and loving all the new foods I've been trying.

Have a great day everyone!
Tamara

Justwant2Bhealthy 04-23-2010 11:17 PM

 HI THERE ~ we had lovely :sunny: for the last two days. We bought a nice lunch and went to a favorite lake and had a lovely little picnic today -- it was so nice with the sun reflecting off the water (now that the ice has finally melted). Supposed to have sunshine all weekend so will find some nice outdoorsy stuff to do ... fun, fun, fun! ;)

:welcome3: TO ATHENE & AMY ~ we do have others from Alberta and BC on this thread; they will drop by sometime soon, I'm sure. We do have one or two ladies on this site from Montreal, but haven't seen them around lately, but you never know, they may surprise us with a visit too! ;) Glad both you ladies found our thread; come back often, we do indeed like to make new friends, the more the merrier, I say ... :D

I think we are all getting an early and lovely spring from the sounds of it, but that's fine with us! Hope all our Canadians have a wonderful spring weekend ... Rosebud :flow1:

irishsarah 04-25-2010 09:30 PM

Thanks for the welcome! We are going on a mini vacation over the Victoria's Day holiday to Niagara Falls. Then the next weekend I have a meeting in Halifax and this time I am taking the whole family with me! (Thanks to a generous boss.) We are really excited about the move. It just takes SO long to get all the paper work approved.

I'd LOVE to be a lot thinner and healthier by the time we move. I have a bunch of friends up there that I haven't physically seen in quite awhile and I'd like to not be worried about how I look the whole time. Plus, I have a sneaky suspicion that my best friend is going to be getting engaged soon. Just more motivation on top of all the wanting to FEEL better stuff.

The weather has been crazy here. I got in all of my gardening before the torrential downpours came this weekend. I am just hoping for NO MORE FROST! It is still a possibility with Lake Erie still being so cold and with nights in the 30's at times.

Justwant2Bhealthy 04-25-2010 10:24 PM

SARAH ~ yes, the US is having some wild weather these days; Colorado was hit with 12" of snow yesterday. We had lovely :sunny: weather for the last couple of days and is expected for tomorrow too. I love this time of year here as the weather is nice (not too hot or cold) and the buggies haven't arrived yet. Some areas in the south have been hit with black flies recently ... :yikes: We usually don't see those until late May or early June here (hope that stays the same this year).:^:

We had a productive day at our lot this afternoon; we spread some gravel and sand around to fill in some dips in our laneway and give more drainage for our trees. Plus we took some rocks to give more support to the end of the driveway; this helps keep the gravel in place so it doesn't wash away during the spring and fall rains. Last weekend, DH made me some better steps to get into our camper trailer. We hope to start the floor of our cabin in the beginning of May, if all goes well ...

Take good care and have a great week -- Rosebud :flow1:

JuliaDH 04-26-2010 11:01 AM

Hey my Canadian Chickies---Hope you have all been well! Been busy @ the gym on week days and the kids have been keeping me super busy. Just haven't been able to check in for a few months.

tamaraj 04-26-2010 11:41 AM

Well ladies! I actually hit 199.0 yesterday morning and much to my surprise was the exact same this morning! I'm a little surprised as I didn't have the greatest weekend. I tried to eat on plan but it wasn't an indulgance thing, I actually had a hard time getting all the food in and drank far too much coffee (with fat-free cream). My DH's mother passed away suddenly on Saturday morning and it was a huge shock. We're taking things day by day, but it will be very hard and my FIL has been married to her since they were 16 and she completely took care of him. He'll be lost for a while I imagine. We're in the process of funeral arrangements. I feel so bad for the whole family and it's our 17 year old daughter's first death in the family so that's another blow. It sounds bad but I always kind of thought it would be my grandparents (84 & 88 years old) that would be the first death she'd have to deal with. Certainly not her 55 year old grandmother!

So the one bright light this weekend was the 199 on the scale.

Everyone have a good day.
Tamara

Aunty Jam 04-26-2010 12:06 PM

Hey everyone - Hi to our new peoples and soon to be new Canadians! I'm also in Alberta but in Edmonton.

Sorry to hear the bad news Tamara :( I hate unexpected deaths, they are the worst.

Sara - I just went to Niagara falls for the first time on the 18th! Beautiful there!

I'm seriously itching to plant my garden... I know we could get some more cooler weather but things are starting to bloom already in my flower bed out front and it just makes me want to plant even more!!!

Judy Lynn 04-26-2010 07:49 PM

Just wanted to pop in and say Hi. I am really looking forward to the end of tax season on Friday. I get next Monday off as well as we have been working so hard. That, plus our tax bonus makes it all worthwhile, I suppose.

Welcome to all the newbies.

I have really been coasting with my weight, but will get back at it in May. I really hate the way my stomach jiggles when I walk. Really hate it!

Bye for now!

Justwant2Bhealthy 04-27-2010 10:23 PM

 TAMARA ~ so sorry for your family's loss; my mother died unexpectedly at 56 y/o too. She went in the hospital for a bladder infection; with meds, she recovered quickly and was getting ready to go home when she suddenly had an aneurysm in her lung and died. We were all stunned -- needless to say! The next week felt like a whirl and the funeral surreal; kept asking my DH for a reality check! LOL! The grieving process started after we got home when reality settled in for us all. Hugs and prayers for you all!

These experiences sure bring home for us all just how important it is to love and cherish each moment we have with our parents and children right now -- today! It sure did for our family. It changed our lives, but for the good in many ways. Oh yes, we miss all our loved ones that have passed since that day, but we look forward to a grand reunion over there some day. Every second of life is so precious now ...

BTW, :congrat: on getting into ONEDERLAND; these are really big victories aren't they? I sure think so ... :D

HI to all our other Canucks! I am glad that you dropped by even it is just for a few moments. Don't get too upset if you stall a bit; just keep on going, something's gotta give eventually. Our lovely :sunny: has returned! We have tiny little yellow and purple crocuses blooming here even though we do have cooler temps.

Have a great week everyone ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 05-02-2010 01:17 AM

We have had a busy yet enjoyable and accomplished week; very productive! Most of the week, we had lovely :sunny: and cool temps; then we had :rain: on Friday & part of today. This afternoon, the clouds parted and we had lovely :sunny: for the rest of the day and very warm temps: up to over 75 F here.

Hope you all are having a lovely weekend ... Rosebud :flow1:

Justwant2Bhealthy 05-04-2010 09:06 PM

 HELLO FELLOW CANUCKS ~ We had a lovely :sunny: day up at our lot today. We took up some more rocks and gravel for the entranceway; and then we transplanted some more trees (pines and firs) to replace some that we lost last year. Seems a couple of spots are not good for growing trees, so we avoided them this time; and we're praying our new ones make it. :^:

I cleaned the outside of the camper and that kept me busy today while DH did his stuff. We had :sunny: most of the morning then :rain: on the way home, we hit a storm; then five minutes after getting home, it was :sunny: again ... I do like this time of year anyways, a nice mix of weather, not too hot, and NO BUGGIES!!! :D

Tomorrow we rest up and get supplies ready for the week. Hope you are all having a wonderful week and nice weather too ... Rosebud :flow1:

tamaraj 05-05-2010 03:27 PM

What a craptacular couple of days we've had here in Calgary. We've got snow on the ground again and it's cold and windy (has been snowing for about 36 hours now). We're supposed to warm up for the weekend and I hope that is the case as we're going to start some renos with DH off work. Might as well take advantage of the free labour! LOL We're going to buy the stuff we need to repaint the kitchen tonight and he can wash down and patch the walls tomorrow and then paint on Thursday and Friday. We're going to rip the flooring out of the kitchen as well and hopefully we can get that done before my family comes for DD's high school graduation at the end of the month.

Update at HM today was only down 1lbs from last Wed. for a total HM loss of 21.8lbs and 34". Total weight loss since Jan 1/10 is 32.4 from 230lbs to 197.6! Woot! I started back to the pool on the weekend and also started some workouts at home under the watchful eye of DH.

We have to run up and grab our camper from storage this weekend as well Justwant2Bhealthy so we can get it cleaned up and ready for the May long-weekend. We're headed up to Cow Lake near Rocky Mountain House. Hopefully there won't be snow like last year! LOL I can't wait to get camping again...it's always so nice to get back to nature. Cooking outdoors, campfires, lazing around with no place to be and no clocks! Good times!

I hope everyone is having a great week. Check back soon.

Tamara

Time flys when you on nights

I can't believe its been over a month since I popped in. I am not sure where April went but I was iether working or sleeping at the time.

I took my Dane to be bred yesterday. We are going every day this week to make sure we have puppies by mid July. The diet and exercise is slow aand I have come to terms with not being 125 by my 45th Birthday next month.

The weather is starting to improve on the night shift which is good and I am finally getting some sleep. Found out Chai tea has caffiene in it and it was keeping me awake not only during shifts but after too.
