Happy Australia Day
Aussie Chicks!!
I am still not controlling my food intake at all well. Not sure what is going on. Seems I just need to have something in my mouth all the time! It is not that I am hungry all the time.
Mista has pulled through and is back to his normal self again. He slipped on the floorboards while I was at work on Friday and must have been flat on his belly with his legs out in four different directions for what I can only imagine was hours! He was unable to get enough grip to push himself back up...the insides of he back paws were rubbed raw from trying. When I found him he was cold, wet, totally exhausted and unable to support his own weight when put on his feet.
I took him to the vet who confirmed no broken bones, but possibly some muscle damage around the spine, mildly dehydrated and severly exhausted. All she could suggest was take him home, let him rest. He's had a bad reaction to anti-inflammatory meds in the past so we were reluctant to give him any this time and he didn't appear to be in a significant amount of pain.
By Saturday he was able to carry his own weight for short periods, but he was not able to get onto his feet without my help. As saturday went on he was walking more steadily and seemed stronger, but still unable to get up. At this point I was worried he would never regain that strength...consequently thinking if he doesn't, I won't be able to leave him for 10hrs a day as he won't be able to access food and water, therefore I must consider the fair thing and have him put down.
Seems the tears I shed when I went to bed Saturday night, with him on his bed next to mine, gave him the strength to get up and wake me up at 3am for an early morning snack! How excited was I to hear his nails ticking on the floor!!!
He has had this kind of mishap once before and recovered fully within 24hrs. After that I laid down some non-slip matting in the hall and confined him to that area while I was not home - it is also the coolest part of the house. Somehow, on Friday, he managed to push the matting away from the wall and slip on the floorboards underneath. Today, that matting is now taped to the floor and walls!! And I feel confident he will be ok while I am at work.
Jez had her lesion biopsied on Monday...results in four working days - maybe Friday, more likely Monday. The fact that it is still a lump after a needle has proven to me it is not a blister ~sigh~
Other than that, nothing else to waffle on about! I am aiming for a healthy day today...and have just discovered how to make fresh fruit smoothies without milk, yoghurt or icecream! Yum!
