Wow, we just got pounded by severe thunderstorms, lightening, and high winds. One house in Brownsburg burnt due to lightening. Lights flickered on and off at work. Unfortunately they stayed on so couldn't go home. lol It was an awesome storm especially watching it from this 7th floor office.

diyana 08-04-2009 01:58 PM

Annie - Sorry to hear about the house in Brownsburg. I hope no one was injured. Looking at the radar, it seems like all is quiet everywhere else in the Midwest, except for Indiana! Lucky you! I hope it doesn't make driving home a b*tch. Be careful on the roads, girlfriend. BTW, I sent you a PM.

Shad 08-04-2009 05:46 PM

Morning all,

Between thunderstorms and sleeping in, you lot have had a bit of action over the day.

Annie - sorry to hear of the problems with Mum, but she still has one working kidney. Isn't the human body wonderful. Two of most things in case on doesn't work properly. Of course there are exceptions. Lets hope that she stays on track from now on.
My basil is growing really fast. It's not the normal basil - it's called limelight and has completely different leaf structure. Still smells and tastes the same tho. The chocolate mint is moving along as well. Tastes good with strawberries.

Michelle - still keeping busy I see. I'm sure those two pounds will drop off easily enough once you start coming to grips with them. Good on you for getting the websites up to date.

Mel - Friday your time it is. No problem. I just need to get the exercise out of the way first.

Happy - sleeping in huh - did you get up to skulduggery overnight? Oh and while I think about it. Mel would you like to explain why Happy's DH will serenade her just because he has a new camera. With the guitar I might have accepted the statement, but cameras don't always make good music.
For a while it was actually fashionable over here to build a yurt to live in. Some of them are very big. One of them even went to the limit when it was put on rails and it actually turned around. I mean how much money do you really need to spend to be different. They are supposed to have therapeutical and magical qualities. I look forward to seeing movies (from the camera) of the glowing yurt with shadow plays moving around inside it. On the other hand, maybe that should be :censored:

I didn't get to see the butt and legs owner. I don't know what the face is like. I just know what the backside looks like. He came up behind and passed me while I was detouring around some old folk out for a morning shuffle. But the view was good from where I was. I thought about going out and lying in wait this morning but got up too late due to the fact I was reading for most of the night.

Okay - so off we go again. I had lunch with the DS2 and the niece and niecelet yesterday. It was fun. I need to do that again - talk about a doting grandad. Yuk. Believe me this child is twice blessed with at least 6 times the normal brain cells and is the most gorgeous thing that life ever put his way. Mind you if it keeps him out of the pubs, clubs and casinos, the niece can have as many as she likes.

Gotta go. Things to do, places to go, people to annoy.

ceejay52 08-04-2009 06:08 PM

Shad
As far as I know the birthday uncle is good. His son had come in for the week end and they decided to celebrate at home.

Happy
You over slept also. I took a .5 xanax for the first time last night and went into a deep sleep. I don't remember the alarm going off this morning when I woke up at 6.18 a.m.(groggy I might add.) Then at 6.30 a.m. the alarm blared.

Mel and Michelle
The thought of you two drag racing in Memphis cracks me up.

Annie
I also thought about you when I checked the radar this morning. The news said that part of streets Kentucky near the Indiana border were flooded. Going home when th power goes out sounds good to me. I hate answering the phone during a thunder storm.

I realize this sounds a bit bad on my part but I will either go to the gym tonight or turn out the lights to hide from my neighbors down the street. I just don't have the time or energy to deal with them during the days I work. When I get home 7.15 p.m. and try to be in bed by 9.30 p.m. doesn't give me a whole lot of time. I think they watch for me to get home. They may sit and talk or mainly watch tv till almost 8.30 sometimes 9 p.m. From what they tell me some of the other people are doing them this way also. You get tired of it.

happy2bme 08-05-2009 12:20 AM

Busy day today.

Annie - I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom's illness. What a bummer. Diabetes is a very insidious disease. I hope she will be ok. I know what you mean about watching the storms from a high up building. Kinda cool unless you see a tornado :yikes: Hope you got home ok.

Ceejay - hope you escaped the neighbors. Some people don't seem to want to "listen and or care" as my friend would say - that others go to bed very early because they rise very early. It's true when you get home so late, you barely have time to relax before it's off to bed.

Shad - love the term niecelet - that's a good one!!!! Glad you have a good time - you've been needing some fun in your life. As for DH serenading me - he did - with the new guitar, I just didn't know it  He got his new camera today and is trying fast to learn how to use it. As for shadows in the yurt - between me and DH it will look more like the Ghostbusters characters than 2 sexy shadows

Michelle - hope the DH is feeling better - that was quite a tumble he took! And good for you for jumping on those 2 extra pounds to make sure they don't mate and have a population explosion. I don't envy you getting up at 4:30 but you are right about coming home early and having the evening available longer. Is this just for the summer? Sure is hard to get up on a frosty morning at 5am when it's pitch black and cold outside - even if it is peaceful and the stars are brilliant.

Please cross fingers for us - I so want to see the meteor shower Tuesday or even Wednesday night and it's looking like storms are moving in :tantrum:

In other news - we have a big fat black swallowtail butterfly caterpillar happily munching the parsley. It's one of the practice subjects DH is testing out his new camera on. We have a swing up by the pool. Sometimes I sit out there with the cat and watch the bats and get a bit of fresh air. At least until the mosquitos chew me up. Thought I had a mosquito bite on my leg to match the multitude on my arms and hands. I looked at it today and was horrified to find a large red (like a bad sunburn) mark bigger than my entire hand all around the base of my right leg. There is a darker spot in the center about the size of a U.S. quarter. I hussled in to the doctor - it's a spider bite. Fortunately not one of the bad necrotic spiders like Brown Recluse or Black Widow but it sure is ugly. And it half hurts, half itches. Doc gave me another antibiotic - just got off of one last week. My poor system will be in shambles. We have alot of spiders this year and up to this point I have had a you leave me alone, and I'll do the same. I guess I have to be more careful. While waiting in the waiting room, there was a nice looking fellow of about 21 years old sitting across from me. The receptionist called out "Mr. Pigg, will you come to the front please". He got up and walked over. Because I am immature, I immediately got a fit of the giggles. I had to hide my face in the magazine I was reading because the more I thought about it, the funnier it got. Now what fair maiden will ever want to be called Mrs. Pigg?

I have one minor rant. Why is it that doctors prescribe you medicine but don't tell you much about it? I found out with this antibiotic you need to really up your intake of fluids so that you don't get "sediment" in your kidneys which can develop into kidney stones. So at least until we leave next week, I will be chugging extra water .... and yogurt!

Time to hit the sack. Sweet dreams everyone.

diyana 08-05-2009 07:52 AM

Happy Hump Day, ladies!

What a loooong day yesterday! After work, I had to finish up some website changes for a client that took me nearly 3 hours. Then, even though I was exhausted I had some simple changes to do for 2 other clients (which took about 10 minutes each), so I knocked those out of the park as well. I finally got downstairs, ate a SmartOne dinner and relaxed and watched TV with DH. I didn't get to the gym. I was planning on going after the website work...but was just too tired, hungry and cranky, plus it was too late. Luckily, I did get for a nice brisk walk on my lunch hour yesterday. And also luckily, I didn't have any snacks near my home computer, so I wasn't tempted to eat. Getting snacks would've involved going downstairs and then coming back upstairs and I just didn't have the time. I'm planning on getting to the gym tonight for cardio (either that or take the doggies for a walk), and then tomorrow, I've got a meeting with my trainer, so I'll be doing cardio and strength training.

Annie - How did your first day at CVS go? Thanks for responding to my PM.

Shad - I've never heard of limelight basil. And I've heard of chocolate mint, but never knew of any good uses for it. Thanks! A yurt house that turns around? Awesome! Now that you mention it, I've heard about the therapeutic and magical qualities of yurts too. As for the butt and legs owner...sometimes it's grand to just enjoy the scenery, even if you can't see all of it! ;)

Ceejay - It doesn't sound bad to hide from the neighbors when you just need time to relax and decompress. It's nice to have friendly neighbors, but do they need to visit EVERY NIGHT. That would get old for me too. On work evenings, I like/need my relaxing time (of course, lately I've been spending it doing website work!)

Happy - You cracked me up with the shadows looking like Ghostbusters characters! DH is feeling a little better, thanks for asking. He still has some pain, and his doc says no riding the mower. We were chatting yesterday about who is going to shovel snow this winter as my back is getting better and he injured his. I told him that he needs to get his back better...because I ain't shoveling and risking being in pain for years. So far, my hours sound like they'll be permanent. And since I'd have to get up in the dark on the bitter cold winter mornings anyway (our days are pretty darn short here), it's okay by me. Plus, it should still be a little light out when I go home in the winter. The Sun doesn't typically set until 4 or 4:30 in the winter...so driving home when it's light will be a plus, and I'll get to avoid all the traffic jams. :) With early hours like mine, I've kind of resigned myself to working out after work...even though they say morning exercise is better as your day doesn't get in the way and excuses don't pop up. There's no way I could wake up earlier than I do. My fingers are definitely :crossed: that you'll be able to see the meteor shower. Sorry to hear about your spider bite. I got a bad bite on my wrist by a Wolf Spider about 10 years ago and the docs were worried it was going to go necrotic. As for Mr. Pigg, it is my belief that he will either FOREVER be single or his future wife will NOT change her name. Keep downing the water and yogurt, girlfriend, and you should be all good for your vacation!

That's all for me for now, chickies! I'll check in with y'all later or tomorrow!

Love and big hugs,

annie175 08-05-2009 08:37 AM

Happy Wednesday/Hump Day/Trash Day...

Since I worked at CVS last night, T didn't come over, had to take my own trash out this week. lol. He is so good about taking the trash out and he doesn't even live there. What a set up I have.

Shad...awwww I love babies. Your niecelet sounds so sweet. All that storming and rain yesterday, I looked out the back door and I have a zuchinni that grew 3 inches over night. I can't wait to get home tonight and check out the rest of my little garden.

Ceejay...yes the storms rocked Indiana last night. My power went out yesterday at home at some point, but was back on when I got home. All the clocks were blinking and had to be reset. I used to have a neighbor that I had to hide from too, she would come over and ask me to make coffee to boot. Nervey.

Happy...I collect butterfly things and love butterflies. Be sure to post hubby's pictures. Mr. Pigg. Actually, when I used to live in Putnam County, Indiana, you know the type of area, all in-breds and backwards, there was a woman married to a dude, but she kept her maiden name to go by. It was Pigg. Her first name was Tavia. (T long A, veee short a). Tavia Pigg. lol

Chelle...CVS was great last night. 4 hours of reading and answering questions. Also involved was a scavenger hunt. Got a list of items to go find on the shelves to familiarize oneself with the store. That was kind of fun and a break in the reading. Tomorrow night is register training. Sounds like you kicked b*tt with the website work. Are you rolling in the dough now? lol. Working at the computer is tiring enough. My eyes get to burning. Do you have that?

Got roast, tators, onions, corn and peas in the crockpot today. Going home to dinner all ready. T is coming over to give me a back rub and for dinner. More for the dinner, I think.

Not much else going on here, gray and 80 today, no rain/storms. The weekend is killing me as I have to work Sat and Sun at CVS and it is supposed to be sunny and 90/95 both days. Dang it.

Oh well life goes on.

Hello to everyone.

Love and Hugs

How rude of me, thank you all for your concern for my momma. The specialist is supposed to call her today with an appt time. The MD faxed all her info to him yesterday. Doctors are in no hurry.

diyana 08-05-2009 09:11 AM

Annie - Sounds like your garden really enjoyed the thunderstorms! I looked at my garden today and it's begging to be watered...I'll have to remember to do that before I head out to the gym. As for the website work, I won't be rolling in the dough until the clients pay me. I've got one website client that takes a few weeks or more to pay and the other pays in a day or two. Can you guess which client I like more? :lol3: We're supposed to have 90 degree weather this weekend as well, and DH and I are wondering if it will be too hot to go to State Fair and should we wait until next weekend. I don't do well when the temps are above 85. :faint:

Mel - I don't have the trainer 'till tomorrow, but I am looking forward to it. I want to try and get to the gym more often...this couple times a week is not enough for me. I need my endorphin fix. Hoping you have a great day! Don't overdo, okay?

Laura705 08-05-2009 11:10 AM

Annie - Sorry to hear about your mom's kidney issue. Diabetes is a horrible disease - bf has a diabetic friend who is only in his mid/late 40's and is starting to have kidney troubles. Of course it would help if he took care of himself... CVS sounds good - it's always exciting to learn something new.

Ceejay - I hope you've successfully hidden from your neighbors and had time to yourself to relax and get to sleep early. You have to come up w/ some tactics to nicely discourage these visits!

Diyana - Wow, what a schedule - up at 4:30 am for your job and then your side work at night. I don't have that schedule and I would really like it if I could get myself into a morning exercise regimen because, as mentioned, things pop up after work that make it all too easy to have an excuse not to exercise. I'm struggling with getting to the gym more than once or twice a week lately. I definitely need to make the Saturday morning exercise session a standard and strive for 2 weekday workouts. I know that with my dog walks I'm at least moving, but I don't feel like I really get much of a cardio benefit from them. Do your dogs keep you moving, or is it a lot of stopping and sniffing??

Happy - That's a big spider bite. Scary. Hey, I thought bats were supposed to eat all the mosquitos and other insects. Do you have a bat house for them? Not sure if I could tolerate that. We have a mosquito magnet and it's too soon to tell how effective it is. I think it's more like a "Laura repellant" because it's an eyesore in the backyard. Enjoy your stay in a yurt. I'll cross my fingers for clear skies during the meteor showers.

Mel - Hope you get your return favors so the wheelchair gets what it needs. My basil is doing well, but I'm not doing much with it right now because I'm waiting for the tomatoes to come in/ripen. I really want to make a tomato/basil/fresh mozz. sandwich on nice crusty french bread with some balsamic vinegar.

Shad - So the niecelet is making a changed man of grandad? Sounds like a good thing. Hope you get to see the nice rear view on a future run. It would certainly motivate me to get out there for a run! And I'm not even a runner!

Finally a more summery week! Monday I went to the podiatrist for my orthotics - so far so good. We'll see what kind of shoes I can get that will accommodate them. They fit in two pairs of sneakers I already have.

Yesterday I went to a movie w/ one other movie group gal. We saw The Ugly Truth. It was better and funnier than I expected and I enjoyed it. Tonight I need to get to the gym. I will tell myself that I only need to do 1/2 hour of something, just go. Maybe I can drag bf there as well - he's truly fallen out of the routine.

Looking forward to a hot Saturday because bf and I may spend part of the day in his sister's pool while they are in WI Dells. It was disappointing not to have good enough weather on the 4th of July to use it when we were there for a cookout. :(

Okay, I have to skeedaddle now. Have a lovely day everyone.

diyana 08-05-2009 11:41 AM

Annie - Since you're working at CVS now, I've GOT to tell you a funny story. When I was about 14 or 15, I was a cashier at a pharmacy. And I had a couple embarassing moments, both involving the same product. First time, a guy walks in and asks for "Trojans", well, I'm young and VERY innocent and naive (no, really, I WAS!). I had never heard of Trojans, so I asked the pharmacist where they were and he directed me to where the condoms were. Man, was I blushing!! :o Okay, I figured, I won't let this happen again. I became familiar with the various brand names (not their use though...still sweet and innocent - No REALLY. I was!). Anyway, I thought I had it all handled when a month or so later, a man walked in and asked for prophylactics. What the heck? I didn't even know what Trojans were, how the heck am I supposed to know them by that name. So, again, I asked the pharmacist, who pointed me in the direction. Aw, jeez, how embarassing, AGAIN! :o

Anyway, I just had to share the stories of my sweet, naive, innocent youth! By now you should all be , right?

diyana 08-05-2009 11:46 AM

Laura - When I walk the dogs there's lots of stopping, sniffing and of course peeing (them not me). But I figure it's better than me not doing any exercise. And if I finish the walk with them and don't feel I've gotten enough cardio, I put them in the house and do the route again by myself. DH and I have thought about putting up a bat house, but not sure if the dogs would handle that many bats nearby. We have a bug zapper in the yard, which helps a little. If you go to the gym tonight, we can work out together (sort of) at two different gyms of course. Does that make any sense? :dunno:

annie175 08-05-2009 11:55 AM

Chelle..how funny...you innocent...really you were. lol Get this...I got bussed halfway across town when in elementary to school # 69 and they were the Trojans....hahaha
