I'm back. I did surprisingly well at my mom's. I introduced them to the snobby joes, black bean and butternut tacos, vegetable pizza and quinoa. They did great and admitted that at first they were a little afraid but that everything was surprisingly good. I am curious what the scale will show in the morning.

Hope everyone is having a great Vday with their loved ones.

I love the scale.

That is all.

How did Monday get here so fast?

GirlyGirlSebas 02-16-2009 09:59 AM

Hi there, friends.

I nursed the family through the flu and haven't caught it myself(knock on wood!) However, we all now have horrible head colds. I'm trying to work this morning, but sinus medicine doesn't make one very intelligent.:dizzy:

The good news.....I maintained this week! :carrot:

Hmm after a not great weekend I was still down. I'll take it but no more risks!

Breakfast - tempeh sausage and toast and assored fruit
lunch - chips and bean dip (ate breakfast really late)
dinner - This

Rhonda - feel better!

Heather, did I miss something? What is wrong with Darcy?

Fat Chick B Gone 02-16-2009 06:06 PM

She's has been favoring her hip a lot. She loses her balance some on walks, has trouble getting up off the floor and on to the bed at times. Other days she acts like she's 6 months old. I imagine it's just her getting older but I'm wigged out. We have a vet appt. tomorrow. Good bye extra money this month.

Mrs Snark 02-16-2009 06:10 PM

How old is she? I've been through this with both my big dogs, and it was very hard to watch.

Fat Chick B Gone 02-16-2009 06:15 PM

She turns 6 this month which doesn't sound all that old but mastiffs average life is around 8-10 years. :(

Mrs Snark 02-16-2009 06:29 PM

Yeah, this is the curse of loving big dogs. It really, really sucks.

My male Pyr had some of the same symptoms you describe, and then suddenly one morning he couldn't stand at all. I took him to the vet expecting it to be the end, but we started giving him Rimadyl daily and he rebounded and lived another good quality year. Eventually, the severe arthritis won, but the Rimadyl really extended his life is a great way.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Darcy.

you have a MASTIFF??
I met one recently... the biggest dog I have ever seen!!!!
and very sweet and snuggly :)

GirlyGirlSebas 02-16-2009 07:52 PM

I'm sorry, Heather. I hope the vet has good news for her.

Fat Chick B Gone 02-17-2009 08:29 AM

Thanks girls. My mom has talked me off the ledge over the weekend. Her dogs have all ended up with arthritis but she reminded me how well they did with medication. I'll let you know after our appointment today.
Honestly my biggest worry is that something is going to happen to her where she can't move and I cannot move her myself since she's so big. I stress over this quite a bit.
