  • Good morning, ladies! I wonder where Faye is.

Jean, did you find the sweatshirts? I've got 3 bags ready to for the thrift store their truck comes through our development. I'm still cleaning out stuff. It sounds like your principal is more a hindrance than a help. Pretty soon we English speakers will be considered in need of special ed so we can learn Spanish.

Maggie, I hope your cold is better. Chicken soup is the best thing for it. I love to make soup.
  • Good morning to you all! I am a little later than normal as I finished up my chores and sat this morning and watched the movie, "A Man Called Peter." I have read Catherine Marshall's book of the same name about her husband and his ministry years ago when I was a teenager, and the movie was just as inspiring. If you have never read her book , it is a wonderful book about a man who truly lived in God's will. I yahooed info on the family and found a website that is run by his son, who is a minister also. I had often wondered if his son, who was a youngster when his father died would go into the ministry. It is too bad that humility and honor cannot be said for the mega preachers of today. It seems like sometime or other they are in the media for some disgraceful thing or other. I also find that these men become arrogant and self worshiping. For men who stand a preach about the sins of greed and envy, they certainly don't seem to mind the million dollar salaries they receive. I have often wondered why a man who preaches for a church of 5000 needs to live in a mansion and have a checkbook to match. The thing is, these churches have dozens and dozens of senior and jr pastors that handle everything from evangelism, to hospital, childrens' ministries and what not. Seems like the main pastor, gets up and preaches on Sunday, and Wednesdays and that is it except when he takes speaking engagements, which he gets paid for and books, which he makes money on. The other pastors fill in everywhere else. I am not claiming it is not an easy thing being a pastor and it is the most important job in the world. God ordained this person to minister to his flock, to help them in their time of need, to bring them out of the mire this world has become. I have no problem with these same men making a good salary, but it just mystifies me when they feel they deserve millions. Gone are the days of the Peter Marshall's whose humility was only outdone by his respect for the common man. He may have had a huge congregation, was the chaplain for the senate, and even had presidents sit in the pews of his church, but his mission was to save the common man. Today's big churches have pastors with big heads. I just saw the other day that Schuller kicked his son off the pulpit because he said they had different ideas about things. He doesn't OWN the pulpit and if he considers that glass monstrosity his, then he is in the wrong business! Others have been caught with other women, other men, drugs and all sorts of stuff. I know one pastor in CA whose head has gotten so big that he is away from his congregation more than he is there. If he wants to be an evangelist he should step down from his church and then do what he feels God is calling him to do. Well, that is my for today!!! lol

Maggie: Hope you get to feeling better, sweety! I rarely get sick like that as in colds or flu because I rarely see other people! Unless Jack brings it home to me.

Jean: I know! I remember my grandma's fridge and she had glass shelves that were one piece. I have two shelves per level and not at all sure I am fond of it all. I have three drawers, two deep at the bottom then one towards the top, but like you said, it takes up space. Not all, but some of my door shelving goes all the way across.

Susan: Since the kids will be here in a month, I am getting into the spirit of Christmas. I just wish we could convince Jay to eat out for Thanksgiving like we do when they aren't here or we are in Indiana. I don't think he realizes how much effort it takes to clean up the darn mess. I still have left over effects from surgery that make bending painful and my back gets to hurting when I stand for long periods of time. Maybe Jack can convince him, but I doubt it. I can't wait for them to get here and all of us be together again. We may be a small group, but we have a nice time together. We will get to babysit again while they are here, which is always nice.

I need to get showered and dressed. We are going this afternoon to get our flu shots.

    Have a good Tuesday everyone!

    GOOD AFTERNOON MAGNOLIAS

I got a kick out of your post DONNA especially since my main sqeeeze is a preacher. However, he wasn't one of those you were speaking about. His wages are below the poverty level and it isn't all about the money for him because he is a true evangelist seeking the lost and bringing them in. Those money grubbers aren't working for the same Lord he is. Pity that.

My cold is one for this area that I never had before. I don't recall when I had my last one and I got this one from a tot at church. But I won't quit hugging her. By the time a child gets through first grade they have encounterd 200 different cold strains. Mine is almost gone through the course and I love using this Cold Eeze. Makes my coffee taste funny though.

Ragg Mopp is at his groomers for his bath and nail cutting. He always comes back smelling sooooo good. He was so cute last night when I looked at the calendar and said to Will, "Tomorrow is Ragg Mopp's bath day." Ragg nudged my leg and I looked down and his tail was going a mile a minute. He loves his bath and I guess he thought he was going right then. We take him every two week now but in the winter we will be taking him in every three weeks. Little scutter is a high maintenance dog. I need to get to my groomer ~ my hair needs a trim.

Have a wonderful humpday folks. Type at you later.
  • Good Evening, Flowers! It's been another cool sunshiny kind of day in my neighborhood! I love it! Bob is farming, so I should be doing something constructive . . . like clean out some of the garage clutter. That doesn't sound like any fun to me . . . . maybe tomorrow or the next day. One of our vocabulary words for the week is procrastinate . . . that's me!

Maggie -- I hope your cold is better by the time you read this. I just read an article about how cold germs can stay "alive" for days on such things as door knobs, light switches, the tv remote, telephone, refrigerator handle, etc. It said one is more likely to catch a cold that way than from shaking hands with someone who has a cold. I know that once the flu season hits we don't shake hands at church any more. I had to chuckle about Ragg Mop falling asleep in the hall. If we stay up too late Ernie will go up on our bed by himself. He really likes the electric blanket turned on to preheat the bed on these cold nights.

Susan -- A few years ago the administration suggested that teachers "might" be interested in taking Spanish classes offered at the junior college here in town. There were only a couple of teachers who did since the district wouldn't pay for the classes and they were at night after putting in a full day at school. Now teachers would laugh out loud if it were suggested that we do so. I did find my sweatshirts, but today was a long sleeved blouse kind of day. I'm ready for the next cold day though!

"Gma" -- I did not know that about Robert Schuler! I always enjoy their music, but hate the commercials to send money. No commercials is what I like about Joel Osteen's program. We have a local grocery store that will fix Thanksgiving dinner and you just have to pick it up. We've never done it, but know a few who have and they say it is very good. I'd just tell Jay you aren't up to cooking and cleaning up, so you are going with Plan B which is eating out! The bad part is there are no leftovers. I had my flu shot last week and my arm was a little sore for a couple days but nothing major.

The mail has finally arrived so guess I will hike out to get it. Have a terrific Thursday tomorrow!

    Jean -- from Iowa!
