Hi all,

Welcome Mi Mi! :carrot:on getting to the gym. That is so fabulous. I'd offer lo-cal recipes, but I learned for me that cooking regular and eating small portions works in the long run. I don't like diet food. I do have one little meal I throw together when the rest of the day was higher and I need to budget remaining cals. I use 1/2 can of Kirkland (costco) chicken breast, one chopped tomato and 1 T. kraft's vidalia onion dressing/marinade. And easy, lo-cal salad for about 200 cals. Mucho protein and just the fat from the dressing (but only about 20 cals so not too much).

Judy, brrr. Go home and soak your tootsies in a warm bath. When I'm cold at work, I'm literally incompetent. :D My brain freezes too.

Auntie, your weather sounds delightful. Mine actually is. I hear it's not to last, but I'm enjoying it. I even opened my office window for the nice fall air. And I'm sitting in the sun. Just know I'm sending you pleasant weather thoughts. And oh, good idea adding exercise to your diet. You're so good food-wise, imagine what you could do with a moderate exercise!!!!;) You'd be svelte in no time.

Lu, I hope your dinner was delicious like mine. It's hard to believe but I couldn't finish my fires (I had 260 cals - DH weighed them so it would be accurate) and I fed some to the doggies.

Carol, did you go to the gym today? Are you going to like it there?

Penny, I hope all is good.

I'm doing great food-wise. I was a little low yesterday (the fries filled me up and I didn't finish eating for the day) and am on track today. I took the doggies out this morning and the stars were gorgeous (Lu and Mi Mi, I often walk my 3 husky doggies at 5:00 in the morning - dark, with an LED headlamp). It was cold - 32 degrees - but crisp and clear. And the major tail wagging by my beloveds was great. I think I'm going to do some aerobics after work. For those that don't know or remember, I pay myself for miles, minutes, reps, etc for exercise - I exercised at first for an LCD projector for my home theater (to stay motivated), then a new ipod, a wood stove and last a computer (just because I like toys and the exercise habit was firmly in place after the projector). So I'm on my way for a big screen TV. I'm figuring I'll earn it in about 3-4 months and if I exercise tonight and other evenings, I'll get there faster. :D As I said I love, love, love toys. DH is fine with my program since I'm exercising and have become so active as a result. He enjoys 1/2 the toys as I've already replaces the ipod with a new one and the Mac he's not fond of. But I'm very motivated for a new TV so a little more exercise would be grand. dinner, I don't know as the new TV sounds more inviting. ;)

Hey everyone, I haven't posted here before but I don't know why - It seems like a cool place and I don't know how I have gone without noticing it before!

Marie - 3 huskys, awesome! I love dogs.

Planning to go to the gym later on today but It is rainy and I feel like staying here, so I will have to give myself a push. Once I'm there, I love it - I enjoy working out. It's just having to travel in the rain that is annoying.

Thanks Judy!

Your right, I am definitely trying to learn how to navigate through the site.

My goals

Hi Ladies,

So, just to give a brief intro of what I'm wanting to do.

I'm not on any particular diet program, but I am trying to loose weight. Zelma's story inspired me and made me feel like I could do it, and with this community, there was a possibility of not doing it alone. I am a single mom, and my daughter is 6 years old. I love her dearly. I am dating a guy that I've been seeing for 2 years. He seems to be the one and I realize that I want to be able to enjoy my life with my family. I currently weigh 380 pounds. I am 33 years old. I want to live to see 34. Over the past 2 years, I have lost a lot of friends to heart attacks, strokes, or some sickness and they were all between 35 & 37. I don't want this to be me. I know I need to learn about foods and how my body reacts to these foods, how it burns them, what sticks, what doesn't; and anything else that would benefit me.

Right now, I have a few things that I want to implement and stick to:
1. Excercise 4 days a week with cardio and weights
(Eventually, I would like to increase this to 6 days a week but I'm starting somewhere)
2. No processed food. I would like to start eating more fresh foods.
3. Eating a bowl of salad before every lunch and dinner meal. Not a side salad, but a full serving (I stole that idea from Zelma)
4. For every starch on my plate, try to balance it with 2 vegetables
5. No meals after 8pm (This one is really hard for me)

So, these are the first 5 things that I'm starting with and want to make progression on with implementing. I hope to be successful on all five and have another new 5 after 6 weeks.

Mi Mi:D

Wow Marie....

That's awesome!!! I never thought of that, paying yourself for keeping with the workouts! That can definitely be a motivator! I used one of my bonuses to get me a flat screen TV and I loved it! I figured my daughter gets everything else, I deserve at least one thing that I want. Shoot, I work everyday right? But that is awesome. I'm sure you will catch a wonderful sell after Christmas. The prices for them are dropping dramatically because of the economy. Definitely be on the look out!

Hi, all! No snow today - yay! The baseball game is coming on soon, so I have to be fast. I'm on track, but didn't have time to do any good exercise today. I did run around like crazy all day at work, so that's gonna have to count for today.

Lu, you never made it back from the door-knocker! Hope all is well!

Carol, what kind of jewelry making do you do? I've been thinking about trying to do something with that, because we sell a LOT of jewelry at my work's gift shop. Might be a good little side business, but I've never done it before.

Marie, the Sweet Oatmeal Bread sounds good, but I could never get 18 slices out of a loaf from my machine. Yours must be much bigger. Oh, I just might try it anyway... Thanks for the good weather thoughts. It's supposed to be back up to 60º this weekend, so I'm hoping to go do some hiking! Ooh, and I do like that idea of paying yourself for the exercise! That might be just the extra enticement I needed!

Mi Mi, wow, what a great start! 45 mins on the treadmill your first time out?! That's awesome! I'm totally with you on the cooking bit. If a recipe has too many wacky ingredients that I don't normally have, forget it! My favorite and easiest thing to make is whole wheat pasta with a crockpot full of veggies (I use mushrooms, onions, and shredded carrots generally) and canned crushed tomatoes. It's so easy and makes a big batch. I put it into individual containers and freeze it so I have something fast during the week. If you can manage to stick with your list of what you plan to do, you'll make a huge difference in no time!

Judy, hope you've warmed up by now! I'll shoot for a 5 lb loss by Thanksgiving. The way things are now, that may or may not work, so I figure it's a good average at 1 lb per week.

Mazza, hi and welcome! Another gym goer, huh? Can't say the same for me, but I do agree that getting started is the hardest part (whether it's travel or just getting up and getting the shoes on!) When I do get going, I do actually enjoy being in motion. Check back in soon!

Oh, sounds like the game is on, gotta go! Happy Thursday to all!

Sorry ladies for last night. I got so busy that I couldn't come back.

Mimi: Good for you on doing 45 minutes on the treadmill. Little step gets you toward your goal.

Judy: Your freezing!! Send a little cold weather over here but just a little. :-)
I'm with you on doing a 4 week challenge.

Mazza: Welcome to the group!!

Maries: Dinner was great!! I didn't have fries though. I wish I could get up at 5 am to go jogging. I get up at that time to get my family ready to head out and I'm out driving my daughter to school. It's a 45 minutes drive but it all depends on traffic.

My 4 weeks challenge consist of posting daily my...

1. Exercise Minutes.
2. Water Intake.
3. Time of last meal.
4. Calories Intake.

Stats: 143.5 lbs.
Wednesday will be my weigh in:
4 weeks goal weight: 138.5 lbs.

I figured, I will start now and then end it in Nov 30th so, I can start my second challenge on December 1st.

Just for fun I will post daily thoughts.

I think this is a great start.

God Bless!!

Hi Mi Mi & Mazza and :welcome2: I look forward to hearing your progress.

I'm keeping this fairly short as I just got back from having a tattoo and I'm sore!! No - I'm not going Goth on you or anything . I just had my areola tattooed. For those not in the know, I am a breast cancer survivor (7 years) and recently had some reconstructive surgery. My old tattoo had almost disappeared, so since I got my new implant I figured why not get a nice areola to go with it. I got to chatting with my tattooist, who mostly does cosmetic tattoos (eyebrows, eyeliner and lips). I was very touched when she told me she wouldn't charge me for the areola tattoo as I'm a bc survivor. Normally, it would cost $600 - $800.

I've decided to give myself an early Christmas present of new eyebrows! Mine are overplucked and sparse and I hate having to pencil them in every morning. I'm getting them done next Wednesday. She does excellent work (I've seen before and after photos) tattooing individual "hairs" not a globbly black blobs ala Bette Davis.

I'll catch up with personals later.

2CtheREALme 10-29-2008 10:10 PM

Hi Mazza and welcome! I'm a newbie too!

Paradise, I am so jealous of the weather your having down there! Eventually, I will make my way to Hawaii!

Aunti G, you better believe that I'm going to put that recipe to good use. It sounded so good when you described it! I've added it to my folder of quick recipes.

Penpal, congrats to you and that is so awesome about getting the tattoo's! Especially the eyebrows! I mean think about how much money you'll save from not waxing, plucking, and threading them! Rock on!:carrot:

Oh, I didn't make the "not eating by 8pm" rule. I had dinner at 8:30pm. I really have got to try and get that together. I would like to have had dinner really by 7pm, daughter in bed by 8pm and myself at 9pm. I'm currently in school for my MBA so most times I stay up later than I should. This is really a no no because I noticed that I will get hungry if I stay up really late. Oh well, I will try again tomorrow.

Mi Mi

auntie g 10-29-2008 10:47 PM

Another quick check in before bed... I couldn't sleep yet anyway, what with all the noise outside- all kinds of fireworks and hooting and hollering and sirens since the Phillies won the World Series. Woo hoo! :carrot: :carrot: :carrot: :carrot:

Lu, glad you made it back! Good luck with your challenge!

Penny, I nearly fell off my chair when I read you got a tattoo! Luckily I kept reading... ;) But I have 2 tattoos myself, and I am nowhere near Goth or even biker chick. That is so awesome you got it for free. It should be covered by insurance when it's that kind of reason, but I don't suppose that will ever happen. What a kind gesture that was, though! Good luck with the eyebrows!

Mi Mi, yeah, I hear ya on staying up too late and getting hungry! I ate dinner over 6 hours ago, and I really should be in bed now. My stomach is growling... I won't eat anything now, but I think I have to work on having dinner a little later than I'm used to, since I can't seem to get to bed at a decent hour anymore. (Can't get myself off the computer at night! :comp:) Good luck with school!

OK, I think I'm done for the night now. Until tomorrow...

paradise 10-29-2008 10:50 PM

Quick check In.

Penny: congrats on your tatoo. Wow, seven years breast cancer survivor! God Bless your heart. I have a few friends that a friend that's a breast cancer survivor and I know how touch it is in the beginning.

Mimi: Sometimes you won't have a perfect day but there is always tomorrow. If you come to Hawaii just let me know I might be here and we can meet.

Hope everyone has a good night sleep!!

Lu

Good Morning Ladies.

Here its 5:54 am. I hope everyone it having a wonderful day. I for one got not so good news last night. My hubby might be deploying this weekend. I hope they give him more time to pack. It just sucks!!

Today's thought.

Thinking for yourself in the face of doubt

If you accept someone else's idea of reality and personal limits, you'll have no control over your own destiny. You can only go as far as that view will let you. Do you normally accept things as they are, or do you ask "why" and "what if"? Being an individual and thinking for yourself--even while others are calling you crazy--takes courage. For many, trying a new perspective is scary. But if we always stick to the familiar, the known, we never grow and learn. Don't be afraid to go against the grain. Ask the tough questions that everyone else is afraid to ask. Try a new way to do the same thing just to see what happens. We guarantee you that the world won't end. You'll see solutions that nobody else would see if they're all looking at a problem the same way. Practice new ways to combine unrelated objects. After all, somebody had to try peanut butter and jelly for the first time.

I will come back later.

Lu

auntie g 10-30-2008 10:24 PM

Hi all! Had some birthday cake tonight and I'm feeling a little queasy. Ugh! But yippee! It's almost Friday! That about sums up my day...

Lu, nice thought for the day! Hope your DH stays safe!

Nighty night!

2CtheREALme 10-30-2008 10:35 PM

Hey Ladies!

I'm going to do a quick check in.

I didn't make it to the gym today because it I was in line for almost 4 hours to vote so I wasn't able to get there before having to pick up my daughter. I was pretty upset about that but, I figured, I'll just go tomorrow. I'm going to beat myself up about it.

I was able to eat my dinner before 8pm today! Yahoo!! I was very excited about that. I defnitely want to make it a habit. It's really hard for me b/c my daughter is a picky eater, and I mean she doesn't eat anything that I will eat; so I find myself making 2 dinners. So, I'm going to try and have my meals planned.

Now I have to figure out when is a good time to turn off the water intake. It's pretty warm in the apartment at night and I drink a lot of water. And boy does it keep me up. I could not use that side effect.

Other than that, today was a good day as I continue to slowly make changes in my choices. I have to remind myself that it's not going to happen over night, and it may not happen in 2 weeks, but if I just stick with my healthier choices, eventually, change will come. And change is what I'm looking, hoping, and believing for.

Until next time....
