Hi there,

I'm new and looking for some support. My name is Lu and I will like to lose 29 lbs. I love the daily checking in. Can I join you girls?

Just let me know if it's okay.

Thanks!!

Well, I lost a ½ lb this week. That's about what I expected, so I'll take it. I'm trying desperately to get out of the funk I've been in, but now we've got a rainy day, and DH will be away most of the day. Ugh! Alone with my thoughts is not usually good... I almost wish I would exercise! ;)

Carol, :woohoo: for your 1.5 lbs down! How did your evaluation go?

Judy, welcome back! Good luck getting things in order over the weekend!

Penny, glad your shoulder's become bearable, and yay for breathing! Tell me, when you line up DH's shoes, what feeling comes with that? Do you feel good that they are the way you want them? Or do you feel annoyed that he doesn't do it right to begin with? I find myself too often in the annoyed category, and I'm just wondering how others look at those types of things.

Lu, hi and welcome! Sure, you can join! Are you using a particular diet plan?

OK, have a good one, everybody!

Hi everyone, things are going very nicely. Lu welcome to the thread. We have the best group of chickies so please join us. And you live in paradise. How cool is that???

auntie, yes, DH is building a real plane. If you google a Vans RV-7A, you can see what he's building. I hadn't gone with him to get the first kit, but since I went yesterday, I looked a 3 of their planes. They didn't have a 7A there, but the one I took a few pictures of is the same but not 4 seater. Ours is a two seater. DH has been taking flying lessons - he'll get his license about the same time as he finishes building the plane. Oh, my dr. said the average age for menopause was 53 so I could stop dreaming of it. Maybe you should just exercise. Heck if you want, PM me and I'll send you one of my older Walk Away the Pounds video. You'll be amazed how wonderful exercise eases the blues.

Judy, I told DH all about you and your travels - that it's so impressive that you lose weight and travel, travel, travel. You were my role model yesterday and I swore I was going to be good. Heck, I was so paranoid of overeating, that I underate. No balance there. But I didn't chew my way across Oregon.

Penny, I'm so glad that you're feeling better. My dear sister has a PhD in bio chemistry and I'd asked her a long time ago after I'd lost 70 pounds where all the weight went. I was under the impression, the toilet got it. But she said, no, you breath it out. Exhaling the pounds. ;) Someday I'll be up in Portland when you're not medically sidelined and I'm not on a 6 hour up and 6 hour back trip like yesterday.

Carol, how did the eval and 5 year plan go. I suppose answering in 5 years I want to be slim, svelte and fit. That's my goal. Work wise - in our economy, who can guess more than the next week. I know I have some OCD and I don't think it's bad, per se. I have noticed that in the last few months, I move items so their in perfect line. Penny and her DH shoes sound familiar to me.

Today, DH is going to do the floor. He has to pull up 2/3 of the laminate flooring so he can re-lay it where the walls used to be and where there is currently no laminate. How fun for him (and me). He's moving furniture out as I type and I think he wants me to finish up so I can help and/or he can move the couch. :)

paradise 10-25-2008 02:32 PM

Thank you girls for welcoming me into your group.

Auntie: My plan is to jog 5-6 times a day and I will also do beachbody series video to build up my strength. After two weeks of doing that series then I will do the body for life strenght training. And with my jogging, I will just work on building my miles and doing sprints for speed. But all of this will be done step by step. Starting slow and staying focus everyday on what needs to be done. I have lost weight before and this is the way it works for me.
How about you? Are you on any plans?

Marie: Yes, I live in Hawaii (paradise). My husband is in the military and we bought a house here. I've been here for 4 years but hoping to stay a little longer. You just can't beat the nice weather here all year long. The first year that I was here it felt kind of odd because you know during winter time you expect cold weather. So on Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday's it just feels different. I guess, it is because I was use to having the cold weather during those times and enjoying a nice cup of hot chocolate or a bowl of hot oatmeal. But within time, I just got use to not having the cold weather.
So marie, I hope you have fun helping your husband with the furniture and floor. I bet you will feel great when everything is put in place. Enjoy the moment.

Well ladies, I just starting schedule my workout plan for next week (Oct. 27th) and I will let you know how it goes by posting daily. Is there any day that you girls have for weigh in? Or do we just weigh in when ever we want?

Right now it's 8:15 am but in Miami (where I have my sister) is 2:15 pm. The time difference is about 6 hours depending on where you live. I just wanted to let you know ahead of time. Some of you might see my post on the same day and others on the following day. It all depends on the time you check in.

It's nice to have support and at the same time meet new people.

Take care,

Lu

Congrats Auntie for your 1/2 pound lost. It's progress!!

Lu

cckayac 10-25-2008 07:30 PM

Lu welcome here and sounds like you will fit in just fine. My son and his wife and little boy live in Maui. They just let us know they are coming home for the babies first christmas that he will really know as he was only one month old at christmas last year. I got to visit in March for 3 weeks it was my second visit so great... Well hope you enjoy our little chickie place here.
Girls girls the eval was never done as she had something pressing to finish. But I asked to speak with her for a least a few min. as they had made me so interested with little bits of info. future planning etc. So I found out they were interested in me moving into a supervisor role in the near future but the planning is still in progress with HR etc. Well I won't think I have it till I see it on paper and a pay hike attached as the responsiblities will increase greatly. But I think it will be a challenge and I am ready for it if in the end all goes well. The new director told my boss that she new I had leadership as soon as she met me the first day. That was nice. She also said how I am upper mtg. material and have good skills. In the future she has asked me to teach some of the coworkers how to write more details in their notes etc. Well we will see how I go about creative thinking with that idea. Meanwhile I am honored they thought of me and no one else at the office knows yet as its not final yet. I always feel until it is that something can go wrong so my hopes will stay where they are now and just take everyday as it comes. I am not unsatisfied with my own position really. Guess thats true maybe to comfortable and not pushing myself to be something higher up.
At any rate time will tell thanks for you thoughts.
My food intake hasn't been super this weekend well today not bad yesterday off a bit as I had dinner out prime rib buffet. I ate lots of shrimp cocktails. Not much prime rib, but did have potatoes and some seafood newburg with rice of that was naughty for sure.
I am jumping back on the wagon today no more slipping off for awhile.
Auntie every little loss adds up congrats.
Marie the plane sounds so cool. How exciting is that?
Penny glad your feeling better these days. Breathing away the lbs.. cool I want to do that trick to...
Judy glad things are going well for you and maybe starting to settle down.
Take care everyone I am going to get my pjs on.
Been shopping all day for a blk dress for the gd to be Mona Lisa. Oh yeah guess what no such costume out there we are remaking a priest's robe from the fabric store added some trim cut it up sewed it up and almost done.

auntie g 10-26-2008 09:08 AM

OK, so yesterday I did not get out of my funk. I cried on and off all day. I just couldn't get it together! And today I'm fine. I'm convinced that something odd was going on hormonally. One of the great mysteries of life... Since I was out of my mind and DH was not home, I ate an entire jar of fudge pecan topping (like for ice cream, but I didn't have ice cream). I guess that was my dinner splurge, huh? :o After I polished that off, of course I felt terrible - sick to my stomach and dizzy from all that sugar. It was pouring rain, but I decided I needed to go for a walk. Well, I didn't get far before I saw a huge bolt of lightning, so I hightailed it back home and that was that. Blecch!

Today I'm going to my niece's baby shower, but I have absolutely no worries that I will eat anything bad there. The sugar shock memories are too fresh!

Marie, I looked up that plane, wow, that's just unfathomable to me, but then I never even built a go-kart. (I have built lots of things, but not any forms of transportation!) And I know it's true that exercising would help me in many ways, I don't know why I can't seem to wrap my head around it. It's coming soon, though, I can feel it. Thanks for the offer of the tape! I actually checked the Fitness section of On Demand this morning, and found that there are a number of possible workout videos there just waiting for me, including at least one Leslie Sansone walking one. Now to just make myself do it... How'd you make out with your floor?

Lu, you sure do have some exercise plan there! As you may have noticed, I do not currently have that plan. :dizzy: I'm just doing Weight Watchers on my own, and I do a lot of little walks with my puppy girl, but no serious exercise YET. I weigh in on Saturdays, but we all seem to be on different schedules, you can do whatever works for you. Thanks for the heads up on the time zone. I'd never looked up the difference between here (east coast) and Hawaii before. Ahhhh, Hawaii... never been there, but I'd love to some day!

Carol, woo hoo! Supervisor! Hope it works out for you! :crossed: Very cool that you're helping out your gd with the costume, too. My niece and nephews almost always wind up wearing pre-made stuff, but it would be fun to make something one of these years while they're still little.

OK, it's a new day and the sun is shining (here, at least!) Everybody have a good one!

Marie 10-26-2008 11:37 AM

Let there be flooring... Yes, DH finished re-doing all of the laminate. We were 4 pieces short, so I graciously said take it from my craft room (under the big counter and piece it together under there. He did and there were only 3 seams, only one that is actually visible. I'm going to get some oak wood putty and voila, all will be good. Costco had the same flooring but the colors were different than 3 years ago, so this worked out great, and no $$$.

Lu, I'm so glad you came back to the thread. We love to have people join us. Everybody does something different to lose weight. I can see how the jogging will do wonders. I was really getting into jogging about 1.5 years ago but have had so many heel and knee problems, that it stopped. I still do the jogging mile of Walk Away the Pounds, but jogging in place is easier than jogging outside or on my treadmill. My goal is to get back to treadmill jogging but I had toe surgery about 2.5 weeks ago and my heel is pretty messy. But it is actually starting to feel better (I'm now using a splint to stretch it). To sum it up, I'm envious that you can jog. :D I log every morsel I eat in a Windows Mobile phone that I sych to DH's computer (I have a Mac and the program doesn't work with my beloved laptop). I eat 1500 cals a day, max. Sometimes I'm a little under it. Over many years of fighting the fat cell that keeps me in its eyesight, I've come to the conclusion I can not maintain if I try eating only the "good" foods. So I'm eating whatever I want in small portions and controlling the totally calorie intake.

Carol, the fingers are crossed for the promotion. Isn't it cool how life ca work out. Just over a year ago you were thinking of accepting a different job offer because of the office politics. And here you are a year later in a prime spot. Life is pretty amazing.

Auntie, I'm sure as heck glad you're not crying today. How odd is that??? It had to be hormonal. And pecan fudge sauce??? Pecans are nuts and they're good for you... The sugar high sounds like a good lesson. Have fun at the shower today and ignore what happened yesterday.

Penny, I hope the shoulder is still getting better and you're enjoying the ability to smell the roses. I hope your DH bought you some flower to sniff after the surgery.

Judy, hows the unboxing going???

DH is working at unloading the plane crates from our trailer and Durango. He had some house remodeling overspill in his workshop so he's cleaning that up first. So the house without the walls looks amazing. I really love it. He has just a little drywall finishing to go on the outside wall and ceiling, then he'll paint and the project will be done. So far, the cost as been - drumroll - exactly $100. Since it's a major change that's pretty good. I told DH that the cost is actually $220 as he killed my bread machine testing the electric wiring and I had to buy a new one, but heck, the old one was limping for the last year. We were lucky that we'd saved 4 extra boxes of laminate when we did that 3 years ago.

Food was exactly on track yesterday, including the full recommended servings of veges and fruits - who'd have ever guessed - I love fruits in the summer but I actually at veges too. Oh, I made DH oatmeal raisin cookies (that clocked in at 119 cals each). I had 1.5 so that wasn't to bad. He's currently chomping on 2 in front of me, but I'm not tempted and doesn't bother me.

I took the doggies out for a 2.5 mile walk this morning in the dark. I usually wait for the sun to rise on weekends but decided that they wouldn't pull as much if they couldn't see past my headlamp. Anyway it was cold but refreshing. I'm thinking Lu's weather was more comfy.

I guess that's it...
Marie

cckayac 10-27-2008 07:04 AM

Auntie G sounds like meno to me. I just came out of that circus tent. I paid my dues. It wasn't as bad for me as some though. But its been one year with no Tom at all. Once I thought he was on vac. for good and he returned for a few days but now he is long gone I think the end has been reached. I never went on any meds did get some drops from a natural food store they were only about 10 dollars and yah just dropped them on your tongue a few times a day they did seem to work. If your interested next time I stop there I will get you the name etc.. Good luck the dr was proud of me for not going on anything she said that is the best way if you can do it.
Lu sounds like your exercise is much better than mine. I am off to a new gym after work today to ck it out with a friend. Its right off the highway very convient to going and coming from work. Its the same gym I used to go to and they had closed it down new owners now new equipment and much cheaper all together. Keep up the good work.
Marie yeah its sure funny how life works out. I am not 100% sure as it has to go through HR and I only have a 2 yr. degree but 20 years experience currently holding a position folks have with a 4 yr. and masters. So I think proving the work can be done by me has already been done. After all they were checking me out to move up and I had no idea for awhile. If it is to be it will be is what I am thinking. I think that the challenge will be good for me as my comfort level doing my job is certainly there now. Its always good to learn new things and I am up for that part. Time will tell I say!
Meanwhile I am plugging away doing my job and helping train someone. See I am already doing the upper mtg. job at least part of it. Your a smart lady using the boards from your craft room.. Good for you. I bet it looks nice. I have the same flooring in my kitchen it needs to be washed as we speak here but I do love it think mine is honey maple? I have had it around 12 years first thing we did when we moved in.
Well breakfast was on target oatmeal, blk coffee. I have tuna, salad, croutons, apple and water packed for today. I think the apple I will keep for afternoon to hold me over till dinner. Dinner is fish and side veggies all the way. After dinner fruit and yogurt. Preplanning works!!!

auntie g 10-27-2008 08:41 AM

Good morning! I seem to be back to "normal", so onward we go... The baby shower was good- I didn't eat anything at all there, so yay! The guest of honor was 45 minutes late (and it wasn't even a surprise shower!), so by the time she finished opening her mountain of gifts, it was time for me to get going. No time for food- didn't even look at it, which probably was a good thing.

So, I was doing some research about hormones and emotions because I love to diagnose myself , and although I still can't explain my past week's problem, I've come to a new conclusion about PMS. I found a study that said something to the effect of hormones getting blamed when our repressed rage comes out. Sounds kinda bad that way, but it went on to say stuff about how women always have to take care of everyone and everything else, and when we don't make any time to take care of ourselves, we get all those negative emotions building up, that we don't think we're allowed to express. So then when we go off the deep end, it's nice to have something easy to blame it on- voila! PMS is at fault! I have no idea if this is true or not, but I'm going to go with it for now cause it sounds good. :spin: I'm also going to try a little harder to get some exercise, and maybe even plan on doing something fun every now and then. This will be my own less-than-scientific study...

Marie, awesome floor solution! Things must be looking pretty good now! There's definitely a lesson in there about having some extra stuff lying around for future use. Several years ago we had a roof leak that damaged a few ceiling tiles in the kitchen. Well, I thought I'd just run out to the store and buy some replacements, but wouldn't you know, they don't look the same at all, and we really need to re-do the whole thing. It's not been important enough to work into the limited budget, so it just looks stupid, but on the bright side, it looks better than the big hole in the ceiling before I put up the "not quite right" tiles!

So, I guess you actually use your bread machine, huh? I have one I haven't used in years. I did use it a lot at first, but then it just started collecting dust. I've been thinking about giving it away, but I haven't yet... And you made cookies??? I don't think I can handle that yet. I only do it at Christmas time, but this year I think I'm going to skip it.

Carol, I don't think I'm quite up to menopause yet, but I understand that perimenopause can start as early as the late thirties, so that's kind of what I was thinking. My mom didn't have any symptoms when she went through menopause, so that gives me a little hope, but then again, something sure is going on with me, so who knows?

It sounds like, degree or not, you have plenty of experience to do that supervisor job, so I hope it works out the way you want it to! And way to go with the pre-planning. It really is the best way to keep things under control! Good luck with the new gym!

Have a great day, everybody!:D

Marie 10-27-2008 01:12 PM

Morning everyone, the last day of my 4 day weekend. It's been a great break. DH went on the doggie walk this morning with me. We went 3 miles and jogged a few times. He just laughed at how the dogs were angels for jogging and donkey's while walking. So I think the solution I came up for my Nikes is helping the heel a bunch. I'm currently wearing the splint so I'm trying my best to treat my poor foot nicely. Then he made oatmeal for breakfast. I put equal on mine and it was great.

Auntie, as I inhale the baking bread, definitely I use my bread machine. I actually don't buy bread. Ever. I can't stand store bought bread anymore. Yesterday I made sourdough starter - a recipe in my new machines booklet. So I going to give that a try. I love sourdough bread. My sister said next time I go to Seattle or San Fran (or even Portland) that I should look for specific sourdough yeast as it tastes best. I figured I'd ask my friend Penny to get some if she sees it. :D But for now, I love my regular recipes. Yesterday I used it for my pizza crust - I can control the cals exactly that way. So auntie, pull yours out and give it another try. I have the best recipe for a different bread. I don't know why I even tried it other than its called Sweet Oatmeal Bread. The odd thing is that I don't like grainy breads except rye. Anyway, it has molasses in it (which I don't like) and no fat. Zippo fat added. I make it for potlucks all the time because I'm asked for the recipe all the time. It's so good. If you all with bread machines want it posted, let me know and I'd be happy to share. My sons, that only like wonder bread LOVE this bread. Right now I'm making a white bread as it's best for grilled cheese... lunch, of course.

Carol, education is way more elevated in status than it ever should be. When I read your 2 yr comment, it reminded me of my parents' objections to my marriage. My DH, a mechanical genius, is a high school grad. I had a 4 year degree. Their objection was the education difference would always be a problem, even though they liked him tremendously. Now, they are the first to exclaim how intelligent he is and how much they love him. Thank goodness I had the common sense to ignore them. BTW, I'll admit that I did further my education with his blessing and pretty much in your field. So I have an MS in community counseling, which I don't use at all. Your 20 years of experience is way more valuable than my slip of paper. So never, ever discount the experience - it's way more valuable than a few more years of college. So go for the promotion and be your best fan.

Judy, Lu and Penny, I hope all is well with you all.

I'm going to work on stained glass today - DH's project as mine is done other than it needs an oak frame. I did see a cool hummingbird 3D type of phot that I'm thinking of making for Christmas presents. I got pattern started, but I'm a little undecided. It's so much easier to buy gifts, but I might go the crafty way.

Marie

paradise 10-27-2008 03:54 PM

Hi girls!!

Wow, you girls post long messages but I did enjoy reading them. It's 9:15 in the morning and I did some abs and my cardio this morning. I still have to my afternoon workout. I'm just starting so I want to start slow. My focus is to complete my workout schedule. Even if that means I have to split into two session. My goal is to get the routine going and so it can become a habit. You know how it is, in the begining you have to push yourself and talk yourself into it. Basically just get it done. I know its easier said then done. But I will get there. :-)

Auntie: I love to bake. Well, I love anything that has to do with cooking. I make homemade bread, pizza dough, cinnamin rolls, and I just can keep going. People say that they don't know how I can controll myself because they love my baking and cooking. But I think that's the reason why I gained weight. I was baking every week and not going to the gym at all!! I don't know what happened to the self controll thing. It had dissappeared for a couple of months. I think of it as my past so now I just have to focus on the future. Positive thinking and get moving. I decided to weigh in on Wednesday's and Sunday's to stay on track. It worked for me when I was doing a weight loss challenge last year. Also keeping a food journal as well.

Carol: I'm wishing you best of luck on that promotion!! I always say think positive and feel like it's yours already. (that's the secret)

Marie: Staying active is what counts. Before you know it, you will be on that treatmill. Just take it easy and slow. I see that you like to work with your hands. I love that too but I don't have that much time. I am always in the car going to places. Last year, I baked some goodies and put them into decorated tins and made some hand made cards. I have a neighbor that she makes her picture frames and art work. She also love to build stuff. She put in her wood floors herself. She does a lot of stuff. I just don't know how she does it with two kids. Well have fun with the stain glass project.

Take care ladies!!

Lu

judydc 10-27-2008 05:46 PM

Hey, all! Welcome Lu from Paradise! I've only been to Hawai'i once, and was duly impressed. Which Beachbody series do you do? I've been donig the Turbo Jams off and on for over a year. Marie got them, too, but hated 'em and sent them right back!

Penny, I'm glad that your shoulder is getting better. Cortisone shots are no fun, though. Just reading that made my shoulder feel better, too :o. Will a Braeburn apple a day keep all those doctors you've been seeing lately away?

Auntie, when I get the unexplained blues, I intentionally make it worse, by playing emotional music (Nina Simone does it for me) and just wallowing in it for a few hours. God knows there's enough struggles and bad news out there to depress you. But sometimes I have a backlog of sucking it up, doing the right thing, etc., and whining about it here isn't enough. ;) Whatever it is, I'm glad you are feeling better today.

Marie, I am so jealous of your four-day weekend. All I can look forward to at this point is switching back to Daylight Savings Time next weekend and having an extra hour's sleep :D. All this reading about bread is making me nostalgic. I've seen some strong recommendations for gluten-bread that maybe I will try after all.

Carol, I hope that the new gym works out for you! There's a gym practically next to my apartment building, but I need to take advantage of the free fitness stuff in my building before making a financial commitment to a gym.

I did a bunch of unpacking this weekend--the end is in sight. Part of that involved going through my workout stuff and various magazine articles, books, stickers and gizmos that I've collected over time...reminding me that I weighed 254 almost exactly four years ago, after losing a few pounds. That's when I got started on this journey for real. This week I'm focusing on logging my food, working out, and thinking about my three "brains": Human, Lizard and Monkey. The lizard brain wants to eat when I'm anxious or out of sorts (which I've been for several weeks running) and the monkey wants to eat to pass the time or because food's available, and just keeps on chomping. I want to eat like a human again--when I'm truly hungry, and stop when I've had enough. This weekend I'll settle on a plan and a year-end goal.

Anybody up for Thanksgiving challenge?

judy

penpal 10-27-2008 06:37 PM

Welcome Lu! :welcome2: Hawaii is one of my favorite places. We lived in Maui for a few months about 15 years ago and visited often with our son when he was little. We're almost kamaainas! I'm looking forward to hearing your progress.

Auntie G - I hope your blues have gone away . Sometimes a good cry does us good.

Marie - I'm thinking of getting a new bread machine too. I'm paying $4.59 a loaf for the bread we really like so it would pay for itself pretty quickly if I could duplicate it. I used to make Amish friendship bread with a yeast starter that my friend gave me. You had to make some loaves and pass some starter on to the next person.

Carol - Your career sounds like it's going in an exciting direction - good for you! You have lots of hands-on experience and I always think that's what really counts. You're right about pre-planning. I also do much better on days that I plan ahead.

Judy - I don't know about keeping doctors away, but those apples are so delicious, in fact I just finished one. I'll join you for a challenge :carrot:. I'll try to lose 3 lbs. - doesn't sound like a lot, but my weight loss is always glacially slow and, who know, maybe I'll lose 5 lbs.! I think I'll make some pumpkin custards as they are good for healthy snacks (instead of the Canadian butter tarts I've been eating lately).

I just got back from my post-op check up with my ENT doctor and he says everything is healing well. We did some yard work yesterday. It was such a wonderful fall day I just had to get outside. It was a bit frustrating with my shoulder not cooperating, but I did manage to prune my roses and some of the grapevine where I didn't have to reach up.

Have a great week everyone!

cckayac 10-27-2008 08:25 PM

Girls your always rooting for me thanks for all the support. Time will tell I don't want to be too excited in case I don't get it. After all thats alright to as I do like my current position. But future upper mtg. would be a nice touch.
I stayed on plan today. A bit hungry this afternoon but remembered a nice big apple in my bag. So going down the highway to my next visit I ate it and wow did it help. I didn't pick when I got home just made a healthy dinner. Tonight I baked some sweet potatoes w/olive oil and spices and some baked fish still a bit hungry. Then added a small salad to my end of dinner and have been satisfied since. Now sipping a cup of hot camiole tea. Relaxing after cleaning up the kitchen. Cleaned all my appliances with the stainless steel cleaner getting the house cleaned up for this weekends company. I checked out the gym I think the 19.99 a month is the way to go. That way its free massage chair, tanning, half price drinks, exercise at any location and bring a friend unlimited but they have to pay extra for the goodie se
rvices. Not to bad and that is with a years contract no annual fee. The machines looked nice and lots of them so no wait. I guess tues. will be my sign up day then wed. if I can fit into the group for designing your own workout I will or get another sign up day. Maybe I will reach my 10lbs goal by christmas?? Judy good to see your back on track. Moving is never easy on anyone.
Lu its fun catching up huh?
