Wow, what a busy day in here yesterday! I'll have to catch up later. Just wanted to check in and register another 1½ lbs down - woo hoo! Now I'm off for the day with my nephew, to birthday shop and hopefully go on the pumpkin patch hayride. Have a great day, everyone!

Marie 10-18-2008 10:26 AM

Happy Saturday everyone.

Luvin' - what I did when that happened to me (my old scale was 3 pounds lighter than my new), I changed the upper end of my ticker as well as the lower end. I noticed that my new one weighs the same as my dr. office but it did take a couple weigh ins to not want to kill it. :D

Cathy, I know how you feel about trying to find the wagon when you fall off. You know what did it for me in August??? Facing the horrible Mr. Evil Scale. I swear if you step on it, you'll be motivated and the wagon will pick you up again. It's taking the bull by the horns but it does work.

Judy, welcome back (temporarily). Enjoy the matinee and unpack only 1 or 2 boxes. Moderation. Hear what I say, not what i do. Disorganization drives me nutty so I'd be climbing the walls.

Penny, I'm so glad you had a successful surgery. How cool is that??? So now I can put the deviated septum success stories I've heard to one success and three not. I'm glad it was successful for you. Good thing you live in the rose city - you have lots to breath in.

Auntie, :carrot: on the weight loss. You're doing fabulous.

Carol, I hope you're having fun this weekend and that the review went smoothly.

DGS is so wonderful. He totally wore me out. And himself. He was playing "football" in the house. Carrying the football and running around the sectional in the new open great room. Since the wood flooring has to be redone with the renovations - missing wood where the walls were - h had a touchdown line. Around and around he went. It was funny. I'm hoping DH can play a bit this morning since he'll exhaust me again after DH goes to work. He's changed so much in 2 months. Talking up a storm. He used to be very quiet. Not anymore.

He and I made spaghetti last night. It was awesome. We made the dough and he helped form the little balls to start the pressing part. Then once I got it through the pasta maker the first time he then fed them through. As we made the thin pasta sheets, he was having a blast. Then I had him feed the sheets through the spaghetti plate and he just giggled as it cut the sheets into the thin strips. Of course, slurping the pasta he made was also great fun. I'm not sure what's on the agenda today. DH and I might take him out into the woods, but I know I can't hike much as my heel is getting worse not better. And I stubbed my surgery toe last night so I just want a new right foot. :o

I was at about 1430 cals yesterday and walked (mistake) the doggies 1.5 miles. I'm getting frustrated with the exercising as I want to do it but it's painful. I wish it was summer and I could swim still. Just biking on my fluid trainer gets boring and it kills my butt. ;) I swear the designer of bike seats are sadists, even the "female" special one I have.

Well, have a wonderful day chickies.
Marie

Marie, I didn't follow your advice. I blew off the movies, but I did get a lot of unpacking done last night and this morning. Pushed around the furniture, so I have a better sense of the space than I did before....my old stuff is exactly right for my new place, but, to paraphrase a former Secretary of Defense, I'll have to go with the stuff I have, not with the stuff I wish I had. It will be great to have enough floor space for my workout videos :D. I pulled out my computer equipment, but I wish that you were a little closer to get me up and running. I'll tackling the cords in the morning.

Welcome, Cathy! You can join me, Luvin and a few other chickies on the Penitents Express. The train's pulling out on Thursday...all aboard!

Hey, Auntie! Rock on, girl!:high:

Okay, it's dark outside, I've been in the office much later than I'd planned for a Saturday. I've been in the office most of today, but maybe I'll treat myself to a late movie tonight, now that a theater is a short walk from home. I will check in a few times on the road--and eat like a normal person, not like a starving tourist.

Hi everybody! I had a great time with my nephew. He slept over here last night, then we went out to breakfast :o, went shopping, and made it to the pumpkin patch before he had to get home for other plans. Kids are so busy these days!

I had a really bad (yummy) breakfast, and seriously was not hungry the rest of the day, so I'm hoping it all evens out in the end. Won't do that again for a long time!

Marie, awww, sounds like a grand old time with DGS! Aren't they awesome?! My nephew that was here is turning 10 (where does the time go?), so we don't play little kid stuff like we used to, but he is so cool to talk to. I wish we could have had more time to hang out. And boy, it seems like you need to stay off your feet for a bit! How about that heated public pool? Or maybe a weight bench- you could become a super muscle woman!

Penny, yes, nutmeg! That might be the secret ingredient to add to the spinach! I remember seeing on a cartoon once (King of the Hill, maybe?) someone saying that nutmeg was their secret ingredient in everything. Hmmm... Glad you're feeling better since the surgery. How cool that not only did it work, but you got your sense of smell and taste increased! Now just beware of bakeries...

Luvin, you're doing great! Don't let the temporary insanity of the scale de-rail you! Get back on that wagon, and just keep at it!

Judy, wow, you've got so much going on. I'm tired just thinking about it! Glad you got some unpacking done, and hope you got out to the movies. Working on the weekend, blecccch!

Cathy, I'd have to agree with Marie, just get on that scale. The longer you wait, the worse it gets- trust me! Don't wait another day!

OK, I'm just about ready to call it a day. Have a great Sunday, everyone!

Well no eval. on friday the supervisor was out sick. Oh well guess its no big deal and maybe I wouldn't of found out anything yet anyways. I guess things take time and new positions always approval and I am not sure its what I'd want even if its offered. Though it would be nice to get an advanced position. As the hubby says you already do part of the job now with training etc. guess he's right. Time will tell in the future. I haven't been to bad this weekend and really going to use my journal for intakes. I am also pleased that a gym which is reasonable is going in where my old gym was located and it will meet my needs. So maybe this week I will stop in to ck it out at the time I'd normally work out and see what its like. Cost wise much cheaper and my membership ends this month at my gym. This one is right off the highway on the trip home and to work. Not so bad! Congrats to you Auntie g for your loss. I have to get on the scale wed. is my day for that task. I have to say Judy you sure are one busy lady. Penny glad your feeling better.Luvin just remember your never alone. Scales are great ways for us to come to grip with the unknown for me its always a challenge. Maybe I will move of my scale day to monday and start off strong for the week. It might make me get started and be stronger in this area of my life. Not to crazy of a weekend went to a craft show at the fair grounds lots of booths. I bought some small metal stockings which I am going to add the gk's names to and year and find a branch swag to decorate for christmas with those hanging off. It will be a nice keepsake of this special christmas with all of us together there is no gift better than having our kids all home for the holiday. Bill and I are both motivated to ensure the house and all the trimmings get done. Take care!

Marie 10-19-2008 11:23 AM

Morning everyone. Yesterday just flew by. DGS and I have had a fabulous time. We went out into the forest with DH i the morning. DH did the chainsaw, get firewood thing. DGS, Blizzie and I walked, jogged, played kickball in the woods. Then we helped DH load the firewood in the trailer. DH then went to work, DGS and I played outside. Threw the tennis balls for Blizzie and Kai Bear. He had me so tired, that when he napped, the 3 dogs and I joined him. I'd downloaded a Thomas the Train movie from iTunes and he had a blast watching it twice (BTW not sitting down, playing with other stuff then standing cheering Thomas whenever the train was on). It's on my computer so it an on the road deal as well. Cool way to do movies for kids and for only 10 bucks. And DS2 came over to chat and play with his nephew. It was a great evening.

Today s family day at the guard base, so DGS and I are heading over there. There's that big air-jumping contraption for him to play in, then there's trick or treating. After that, I'll be bringing him back to his other grandma's house (she doesn't work so she has more flexibility in the scheduling). Anyway, it has been a great weekend. Before the guard base we're going to take the doggies out on a nice walk.

Mr. Scale dropped .6 pounds off my total this morning. Yeah!!! I'm making progress. Halfway to where I was last year.

Judy, great description - starving tourist - that's me when I travel. I hope you do a much better job at controlling that tourist than me. I take traveling as a written invitation to eat.

Carol, I hope the review and such go great tomorrow. I know it will. Get to that gym and give it a try.

Auntie, it sounds like you're having as much fun with your nephew as I am with my DGS. Children are so awesome. I've done the overeat breakfast and not want anything the rest of the day. I have no idea whether that is better or worse. But as I like to munch through the day (hungry or not) I can't use my cals up early in the day.

Well, DH is up and that means DGS probably is close behind. I'll chat with you later.
Marie

Hey anyone here heard of Planet Fitness a gym? I have heard mixed messages and a new one came into my area. Before joining I want to ck with folks to see what they think. I checked on line and there were mixed messages and most unsatisfied customers. I am a bit concerned with signing up. Well let me know and Marie sounds like a fun time at the base. Went to the halloween party for one of the group homes. They do such a nice job. One of my gentleman are taking yoga I think thats so cool. Just found out today its nice that they have so many nice programs out there in the community. Enjoy the rest of your sunday I best go start grilling the steaks it gets dark so darn early these days.

cellmate 10-20-2008 01:27 AM

So I finally stepped on the scale and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be... hoping to get back on track. I was better today and yesterday but still ate more than I would have liked to. I remember reading somewhere that thinking of days as "good days" and "bad days" is a bad way to approach dieting so I'm going to try to look at the big picture and be proud of myself for at least trying.

Auntie and Marie, eating a bigger meal earlier in the day gives your metabolism a boost! And for me at least, eating more in the morning helps prevent binging at night.

cckayac 10-20-2008 07:06 AM

cellmate sounds like your putting your foot forward to make some positive changes good for you. I am also jumping in this monday morning trying to have a positive out look on the whole picture not just one day. I am taking my sneakers with me and either walking or going to the gym depending on the weather. If its nice and sunny a walk around the lake is my plan about 3 miles and with the fall leaves it would be lovely.
I started my day with a whole wheat english muffin. I am going to take some oatmeal with me for my cereal but make it at work, apple for snack time, salad with leftover steak for lunch, ck breast grilled for dinner, veggies. So I have a preplan and that always has made a difference in my past that is what I am going to try to do everyday have a plan. Hope you all had a great weekend it went by way to quick and its cold and dark this morning yuk fall is really here. At least I got started on my christmas shopping yesterday. I am going to make a list and put it on my computer so I will keep myself better informed of what I got and my spending under control. The gk want a wee for christmas I will give them a family gift towards that and pjs to all with of course some special goodies too. I want to wrap what I bought and put it away so that this year I can really enjoy the season. Of course baking, making soaps, jewelry etc.. so homemade gifts this year.
Well have a good day and a nice fresh start to a new week.

auntie g 10-20-2008 07:42 AM

Another new week is upon us! (I'm trying desperately to look on the bright side...) I don't think I've yet recovered from my Saturday breakfast. It amazes me that I used to eat like that all the time. I suppose that whatever time it takes to get over that, at least I can see that I have made progress in my overall eating habits. :dizzy:

Well, I have an electrician coming this morning to do some major stuff, so I'll have no electricity for a few hours. I can't leave the house, so I guess I'll have to find a way to amuse myself "Little House on the Prairie-style". :D Actually, it was 34º when I took my puppy walk this morning, so maybe we'll just snuggle up together under a fuzzy blanket for a while!

Carol, oh, it sounds like you've got the excitement of the Christmas season in the air! It'll be so nice having your family with you, and getting to do all those special little things. Hope your work situation goes the way you want it to go!

Marie, glad you had a great weekend with DGS! Hope you're recovering... ;) The little ones have so much energy! About the too big breakfast thing- yeah, on a normal day it's not a good plan. I want to be able to eat throughout the day, too. I have always been a breakfast eater, but it's normally bran flakes, and they go away much faster than a bacon and cheese omelet! :o It's good to shake it up every now and then, but I would absolutely not want to do that regularly!

Cathy, good point about good and bad days. That's probably what gets us into this mess to begin with! The old "well, I already screwed up today, so I might as well keep eating" theory only makes things worse. We can make good and bad choices in the same day, so if we make a bad one, we need to remember to make a good one the next time. No sense blowing a whole day! Are you keeping a log of what you eat? I think that's the absolute best way to keep a grip on it!

OK, my electrician should be here very soon, so I have to turn off the computer and prepare for my temporary Stone Age. Have a great day, everyone!

Marie 10-20-2008 02:03 PM

So sad, little GS is back at his other grandma's house. :( I'm sad and blue. I've never had such a great time with him. But I will recover. I just keep staring at his picture in my office.

cathy, WAY TO GO on facing the dreaded scale. And that it wasn't horrible is wonderful. Now you're going to go full steam ahead. I know from my experience Mr Scale keeps me honest with my log. I totally agree about breakfast - I never skip - but I have to go lo-cal so that I can recover if a I munch too much during the day. I do make sure that the cals I consume have a good amount of protein as I'm a carb lover and that just doesn't work. Mornings at work are my weakness - even if I overeat a big breakfast.

auntie you pioneer woman. No electricity. eeks. :D My recommendation is to read a book with puppy snuggle in for warmth. But alas, you'll get this after the electricy is back on.

Auntie and cathy, it truly is a never ending battle. About 3 years ago I gave up the day theory of dieting and moved to a minute concept. The I screwed up so I might as well munch to my heart's content used to be my motto, but now I fight it. If I goof up during the day, I push myself back on track especially making sure I'm really good afterwards so the long term effect is minimal. I also came to the awful conclusion that I will never not be able to "diet". I have no metabolism and constant supervision of the calories will just make me gain fat.

Carol, I've never heard of that gym. I'd confront them with the info and see if they'd agree to a 1 month trial membership. I hope you get to take your walk after work. I want to walk without pain again (my whining, I know). I did wear normal shoes to work for the first time since the toe surgery. So far so good. Not as comfy as the hiking boots, but after one week of those and the unprofessional look, I decided I'd try my nice comfy dressier shoes.

I was bad and pushed the off button on the alarm and went back to sleep, so now I must exercise after work. I will ride my bike, then tomorrow morning I may try aerobics. I'm thinking the toe will be ok for that and the heel pain is constant so I don't see it going away anyway.

I suppose I should work. I don't like the concept, but alas, I have a work ethic and my little break should end. :o
Marie

penpal 10-20-2008 03:55 PM

I hope everyone is doing well and staying on track - you are all such an inspiration to me! I'm down 3 lbs. so that's great :carrot:.

I just got back from my orthopedist. He took some X-rays and said I have rotator cuff tendonitis with some calcification (whatever that means). He gave me a cortisone shot in the shoulder joint (owwww!) and said if it's not feeling a bit better by Wednesday I'll need an MRI to rule out a tear in the cuff. I'll catch up with personals when my shoulder permits.

Have a good week everyone!

auntie g 10-20-2008 07:01 PM

I survived my lack of electricity - yay! We mostly cuddled on the couch and I started re-reading The Secret. I sure could use some of that positive thinking. Anyone else read it?

Marie, I've also realized that this dieting thing has to be forever. I fought it for far too long...

Penny, YAY for the 3 lb loss! Hope your shoulder gets better!

Have a good Tuesday, everyone!

cckayac 10-21-2008 07:06 AM

Didn't get my exercise in but today I am going to do it dang it! I am working a bit later covering another girls folks as she is out having her baby. We are still interviewing for another full time person can't wait till it is done. They popped in yesterday upper mtg. and asked us to think of a scenerio for them to use. Well needless to say non of us could get it tog. at the end of the day. It flew me into a tail spin and I didn't even get out to do my visit with someone. Funny how just one thing can throw you off schedule. My intake in the evening hasn't been bad. But before dinner time I have to start having some carrots, celery etc. for a little snack or an apple. Get the munchies while its cooking isn't so good. I had a healthy breakfast today and will snack on an apple this a.m. then its salad for lunch with some prot. and dinner is homemade chili in the crock so not an excuse not to exercise dinner will be ready etc.
Auntie g good to hear you have power now! Got to run or I will be late!!

Marie 10-21-2008 11:20 AM

Morning everyone. Things are good here. Cold (28 degrees) but not a cloud in the sky. So it sure looks nice from my office. Penny, good luck with the shoulder and congrats on the 3 pounds. You deserve it.

Carol, goo luck staying on schedule today. It's amazing how others can goof up the perfect schedule we have in our heads on how to accomplish anything. I've nearly given up and doing what I plan at work.

Auntie, it was kismet - you knew what I'd written without reading it. I bet it was great to snuggle with puppy and read. Who's the Secret by?

Cathy and Judy, hope all is well.

I was beat yesterday after work. I've let myself start sleeping in an hour on weekends and I pay every Monday. For years I was disciplined not to do that. so starting this weekend, no more of that. I was so tired yesterday that I couldn't convince myself to get off the couch and get the stuff to soak my foot. Now the surgery area is mad. so no more sleeping in on weekends. I did have enough energy immediately after work to walk the doggies. This morning I did 35 minute aerobics and then the toning video. So all is good on the exercise front. I was a little low on the cals yesterday but in the ball park. Food so far today is good, but since it's only 8:20 in the morning, there's time to be bad. But I won't be. I want Mr Scale to be nice in the upcoming days.
Marie
