Do you walk indoors or outdoors?
I downloaded the couch 2 5 k podcasts - haven't started them yet though.

What are you planning for your birthday? My birthday's around the corner, too, and we have "birthday season" in our house - 3 novembers, 3 decembers

I usually walk on the treadmill. Sometimes I'll walk around the neighborhood, but I'm very sensitive to heat, so a good portion of the year I have to exercise inside.

We don't do extravagant birthdays, but we'll have cake and some kind of extra fattening meal. Plus my department will have a cake for me at work, so I'll be expected to have it at least twice in one day. I know that there is no way I'll stay within my calorie range, but it is only one day. We have a pretty steady stream of birthdays for half of the year; 1 Nov, 2 Dec, 2 Jan, 3 Mar, 1 Apr, & 2 May (I kept telling Mom she needed to have a kid in February, but she just didn't listen!).

I also suffer terribly from the heat <wrong country for it - eh? LOL> but I still prefer to do walking outside. I ordered a refurbished ipod nano <i have a shuffle now> so i can put the couch to 5 k podcasts stuff on it - can't wait to get it and begin!!!

I did soooooo much housework today - certainly counts as exercise! This - in addition to not feeling well - gold stars for me! I did eat a tiny bit not OP - white rice. Grrrr.

I think that if you are going to go off OP, white rice was a pretty harmless way to do it.

I did get in my walking last night. I am DETERMINED to walk every day this week!

Walk, girl, walk!!
I am in a bad place today.
One of my very good friends died suddenly this morning (at 34 yrs old) leaving a husband and 4 kids.
I have been grieving, with poor choices, on chocolate and french fries.
Not impressed with me.

Oh, I'm so sorry about your friend. It is never easy to lose someone close to you, but the suddeness makes the blow even more dizzying.

Didn't exercise Tuesday, but I did walk for 30 mins last night. I'm just going to relax for the next two days, and start fresh in November. I've already got my goals all lined up. 1500 mins exercise, 625 pushups, 1250 situps. My monthly weight goal is 5 lbs, but I really need to lose around 9 to stay on track for my BL challenge goal.

Saturday (Nov 1) I started my new regime. I walked for 60 mins (3 miles), did 50 situps, and 25 pushups. Sunday is my "free day", but I was bored and feeling fat, so I went ahead and walked for another 60 minutes. So that is two for two in November!! If I can get down to 165 by my birthday (7th) I will be totally stoked!!!

Well - i said it on another thread but I'll say it here too - happy b-day!

I just let out steam on a walk/jog/run for an hour and 10 minutes - instead of the usual method of dealing with stress (read: EAT)

Maybe I'm getting back on the wagon...

Hello, may I join here too please? Before I start bashing myself as a lazy exerciser, there are several points that also play a role - well, for me, anyways. First off, it has always been difficult to find a routine that is suitable for my level of UNfitness. When one is as big, it is easy to hurt one's joints and muscles, or worse (I am 44, smoke like a forest fire and have never been an athletic person to begin with). I don't have the knack, the habit and the drive. I have to overcome this, and occasionally do manage but it is, like, in a hate relationship with exercising. It doesn't last long and makes me feel like an even bigger failure. Vicious circle.
I do love swimming but... feel ashamed to go to a swimming pool. So, practically, the only form of exercise I am doing now is walking. It is beginning to get into a routine now, but the last couple of days were extra-stressful and you know what? I forgot to do my walking as planned.
So I am grasping at straws. Got myself a cute pedometer. I am new to Wales, so walking is a great way to explore the town and countryside (and I love it). Joined the 50-mile challenge on this board. Hope every little thing helps.
Wish I had more will-power!

Hey Fractal -
Welcome here!
I hear ya on the setbacks - but you seem duly motivated
Where did you move to Wales from? I was there once on holiday with the family.

Monte - where are you?You seem to have gone AWOL.
I walked 5 times (long, brisk exercise walks) last week, which makes me think that I am sufficiently over the mono <in the evenings> enough to start really exercising again. I have my new ipod coming this week and couch to 5k will be on my agenda!! I actually would like to start tonight - as my DH has downloaded the podcasts for it, just a bit wary about jogging out in public..

Let's hear how you all are doing!

Hi Fractal! Welcome to the Reluctant Exercisers Group.

Miriam - I'm still around. We have had a very busy time at work lately (the auditors, both external and internal, descended upon us the day after we finished budgets). It looks like we are about ready to start and new thread. We're almost to 500 posts!

You're right! Wow - tonsssssss of posts Could be when you start a new thread that more people will join.

I don't know what to do about muscle soreness. On Sunday morning I did a little bit of Zumba - and it had squats, and yesterday I woke up so sore I literally couldn't move my legs, and here it is a day later - and if anything - the soreness is WORSE!!! Any thoughts? I can't do any exercise now, feeling like this!
