That 70's Show -Here's to a new year and a new us

Hi everyone! I know I've been MIA with the holidays, I read as much as I could on our Christmas thread to catch up.
Sounds like everyone is doing so well.
I'm pertty much the "same",
But I am doing okay, not horrible, but okay.
My husband wants to take a vacation in 08 which is wonderful news if it actually happens, and all the more reason to stay on a path.

I need to focus on mini-goals, and come heck or high water I need I need to set a work out schedule for myself and stick to it, with NO excuses right??

Happy New Year 70's Club !

:newyear:

sockmonkey70 12-29-2007 05:15 PM

Hey! I haven't been around much lately either. And the holidays have had an effect on my weight LOL. But I am ready to kick it into high gear now for the New Year!

SunshineRunner 12-29-2007 09:44 PM

Ladies, Ladies, Ladies - haven't seen y'all in forever!!! Hope you had great holidays. Eny, Flower, & I have been holding down the fort and missing everyone who has been crazy busy. I don't blame you for being absent...some days I wish I was....I still haven't gotten more than 5 hours sleep any night this month. Can't wait for it to be over.

I have been hitting the gym hard. I am enjoying it and seeing great results. Still not fit and fabulous, but I've got time for that. I even went out and bought a new pair of running shoes...nike shox...i think they are ugly and I avoided trying them on in about 5 different stores..then I gave in and found they felt perfect for my running. I ran 3 miles on the treadmill in intervals yesterday. Today I took off but did plenty of walking around the mall looking for new sneakers. Tomorrow I am hiking through a nature preserve with my mother...hope that goes well!

2Bthin...schedule your gym time!!! Didn't we discuss this last month??? I'm just playing with you...but you know, I'd never get it done if I didn't plan my life around those 2 hours a day.

I think I am going to try and fit in a beach run tomorrow (on the sidewalk that runs next to the beach here...not running in sand!!!)...of course that will be after the hiking....anywho..we'll see...

Keep it up ladies!!! Let's make it a great & goal oriented 2008!!! Check in more often!

2Bthinagain 12-29-2007 10:48 PM

Gator - - "a beach run" Oh man !!! So not fair. I'm all bundled up here freezing cold in OHIO.
That is awesome that you are doing so well ! I need to hear stories like yours, even though I'm slacking, I'm still inspired and will always have good intentions!;)
We cancelled our gym membership, so it's just what I have at home, which does include a weight bench, video tapes, and a recumbent bike heck we even have a leg press. I just can't get on the bike, I think I'm afraid.
I'm afraid I will only do 5 minutes and want to quit. I know the more I do it, the longer I can handle it.
My DH has been home on vacation over a week now and is going back to work on the 2nd. The kids go back to school on the 7th, and hopefully that week things will go back to normal around here.
Anyone feel free to smack me anytime, I know I need it !
:D

SunshineRunner 12-29-2007 11:11 PM

Smackity Smack Smack Smack!!!! I know the beach run thing is awful to write about seeing as the rest of the country is cold...or frozen...I was born & raised in South Florida....and I just don't get why everyone doesn't live here...I actually live in a small town..nothing big like Miami...that place drives me crazy...but we do have beautiful beaches here in my small town...don't get me wrong, sometimes I hate it here...but honestly....I can't give it up at this point in my life.

For your bike...this is what I do...I compete with myself...that is the way that one day I only do 2.5 miles, then the next 3 miles...I tell myself that I am better and stronger than I think I am....sounds a little corny...but it has always worked for me. Before I met my dbf...I was a gym rat...and about 70lbs lighter...it worked for me then and it is working again for me now. When I started out at the gym about 6 months ago...I could only do about 10 minutes on the elliptical and was huffing and puffing the entire time...I can do more than an hour now and then do another 30-40 minutes on the treadmill...I know...ridiculous...but all I did was tell myself each day that I was better than that...that I won't be a fatty...and that all those skinny muscular girls were just me in the future...even though they look good...I can do it too..jiggling all the way...but doing it. You can do it too!!!!!

Guess what I'm taking a break from????? Cleaning out my closet...it's like shopping again...basically because I managed to keep a good selection of my size 14 pants...although I have about 30 pairs of pants in a bag ready for Goodwill in the morning...still working on shirts...arduous task, but fabulous at the same time. Mom says...dont' say you won't ever fit into those pants again..thinks I should keep them...but she is so far from wrong....although she is greatly supportive of my new lifestyle...she has always been heavy and struggled with weight....I didn't...until I met DBF and got his bad habits shoved down my throat!!!

Anywho...enough yapping....

2Bthinagain 12-30-2007 09:23 AM

Gator - thanks for the slap!! I love how you talk yourself into your great workouts. Do you have kids ??? I don't know how people with kids find all the time they need for themselves. We have a 3 and 5 yr old and they are always with me. They go to bed at 8pm and by then I'm always ready to collapse!
When DH is working he wakes up at 5:30 and is out the door at 6:30. I don't know how the man does it. He wants to beat the AM traffic on the way into the city. I know I need to wake up when he does to get my work out in. Once the kids are up, usually no later than 7....my day just revolves around them and their schedules.
I am also always tired, and don't know if it's from the weight, my thyroid, my snoring, or getting up a dozen times at night to pee.
I bought a bottle of B12 several months ago and have not taken one yet, do you ,or anyone else take that?
And Gator - by all means - enjoy that sunshine! I'd live there if we could, but due to my husbands occupation -- we are limited to where we can live. Mostly up north, yuck !

flower 12-30-2007 09:34 AM

Amanda... I used to do that with my walking. On Monday I would walk. The next day I would beat my distance. And so on and so on. Then on my day "off" I would reset my time back to zero. It worked wonderfully. During my most fit times I would do 2 walks, sometimes totaling 8-9 miles a day. More laters, gotta take son to work. I still sick, diet is still on, excersice is way off.

2Bthinagain 12-30-2007 03:27 PM

Oh Flower I remember when I did 2 walks a day, usually with a baby carriage! You have FOUR kids....how do you find the time? I only have TWO and I find it so hard to schedule ME time. One is in half day kindergarten (afternoon), the other is in preschool 2 mornings a week..., so I always have one with me. And we always are going going running here, running there.
Please please please share the secret !!!!!

flower 12-31-2007 09:03 AM

If I can not get hubby to watch the kids so I can have an hour to myself I walk my 7 year old to school with my 1 year old in the stroller. That is a 1/2 hour walk each way x 4. I have a park near by that my 7 year will play at while I push the stroller around the 1/4 mile path that encircles the play ground structure. It is made just for that. :) But normally I will go do my walking with the stroller at the fitness path at the park after driving son to school. No cars to worry about, the pond is pretty to look at and the ducks entertain my little one. I strive for alone walks 2-3 times a week, but if I don't get it, it is okay. My 2 older ones are 14 and 17, they don't need me all that much anymores. Well, not to baby sit them while I work out anyways. :)

I am hoping this is the last day of my yuck. I have a slight fever today. Scale is refusing to visit a smaller number. I know it is cause I haven't worked out all week. Dieting alone doesn't do it for me. Fine for maintaining. I don't want to maintain 190!

2Bthinagain 12-31-2007 03:42 PM

Flower - we have a park just like that with a walking path around the play gym, I love that place! But it is freezing temps here now...until late spring so that is not an option. I didn't know that park existed until late fall, it was next to a field where the kids played soccer. We'd lived here a year by that point and I never knew it was there!

Side note today:
My oldest (5) just made a random comment -- out of the blue ---- he says "I'm glad I'm a boy, 'cause if I was girl I'd grow up to have a fat tummy".

Nice huh? FYI - my DH has a 32" waist, very thin.

sockmonkey70 12-31-2007 03:47 PM

Hope you'r feeling better Flower!

2Bthinagain...Kids are so funny! I guess he hasn't been around alot of larger fellas LOL.

I stayed on plan yesterday, and worked out! I am hoping I can keep it up :)

Have a great day everyone!

flower 01-01-2008 12:20 PM

I am starting to feel human today. I think I will do a yoga DVD this afternoon once hubby goes to work. I don't want an audience. Not ready for that!

SunshineRunner 01-01-2008 10:13 PM

Hi Ladies! Hope everyone started their new year off right! I didn't. I hate to admit it but went out to eat for all 3 of my meals on the 31st!!! This is nowhere near something I have done in the past 3 months...I tried to eat light..but I was nowhere near light at the end of the day. I have tried to correct myself by having 10 servings of water today and only ate some fruit for breakfast, slimfast shake a little later, and then a salad late afternoon. What a bummer this was as it is my first slip up. I'm disappointed and it doesn't feel good...seriously...my belly still hurts. I'm avoiding the scale for a couple of days until I can see if the water is going to help me out. Still on schedule with gym and what not...but I can't believe I just had my first binge. Argh!

Flower - glad to hear you are feeling better...that cold has been going around down here and I had it for 10 days...it was awful!

2BThin - the success stories are what keep us all motivated...I love to read them...even multiple times...they are one of the reasons I keep coming back...especially when someone posts new photos...love it!

Speaking of new photos...I posted one in my profile...it's not good quality as I had my dbf use my camera phone considering my real camera took a dump this week...sooo..that's me...in all my Gator Glory...good news is those are thick sweat pants...but I'm down to a size 14 and was able to get to the Gap Outlet and get 3 pairs of pants to tide me over until I'm a 12...at which point I have a fairly good stash of those in my closet.

Well..off to bed...hope my tummy feels better...yuck!

~Amanda

flower 01-02-2008 08:57 AM

Guess what??? The scale finally says 189!!!! This is with shorts, undies, t-shirt on. woohoo! I am so excited. I am going to get a walk in as soon as one of my family memeebers wakes up to watch baby. I think it is a tad windy for him outside. I am looking forward to the chill. :)

Amanda, we all got days like those. Just gotta make sur eit doesn't happen again for awhile.

2Fat4myJeans 01-02-2008 09:29 AM

I'm here! I'm here! I'm so sorry for being MIA...things have just been NUTS! DH and I had our one-year anniversary in December... and we bought a house!!! Way sooner than we planned, but we are just in love with our new home. Hopefully we'll be closing by the end of this week. So between inspections, getting our loan, traveling/vacation for the holidays, I feel like I've hardly been home, let alone staying on my diet. :(

I don't know what I weigh, but I do know that my eating has just gone totally in the crapper alongside the exercise. It's back on track today. I have a new motivation... DH and I are going to Moab, UT in mid-April for his birthday (he loves to mountain bike and do outdoorsy things), and I said I'd go on a hike with him in one of the parks. So I need to get myself in shape!

Things are going to be difference since we moved. First, our old house is 5 minutes away from the college campus and we get to use their new rec center for free since we're students. So it has been great (and a money saver) for us to be so close to the gym. Now that we are moving, we won't be as close, and it will take extra motivation to get up and go.

BUT, our new house has an unfinished basement, and DH already has plans to bring down his weight machine (still stored at his parent's house from high school!) and set it up. I bought a pilates mat and plan on doing pilates along with something like WATP or Couch 2 5K on the days I can't make it to the gym, along with weights.

Anway, I'm so glad to see everyone still here!!! This year is the year!!!

2Bthinagain 01-02-2008 09:29 AM

Flower - :carrot: That is awesome about 189 ! Woo Hoo for you !!!

Amanda - you look FANTASTIC !!!!! Be glad your binge is over. I'm also avoiding the scale, I have no idea what type of damage I did over the holidays.

Biggest Loser - anyone watching the new COUPLES edition? I heard one of the trainers say something interesting last night. "Never drink your calories".
I said that over and over to myself several times. They also took the contestents to a hospital and it was enough to jump start "again" with new found motivation.
I know people have questioned before, and I don't remember the answer - do they truly weigh in ONCE a week ?

I need to keep that in mind as I give up soda... again!

SunshineRunner 01-02-2008 09:48 AM

Flower - congrats on 189 and the kind words...not sure I am even in the 180s right now - hopefully it is just sodium kicking my butt....I'm aiming for 10-12 servings of water today. Gotta get this outta me!!!! Argh!

2BThin - Thanks for the compliments! The yuck part of my binge is that it wasn't even for the holidays...seriously...I just kept saying yes when people asked me to eat out!!! Seriously!??!? I know it won't happen as bad as it did this time again...but dang...how depressing! I'm working hard this morning...having a SlimFast now and planning on a big bowl of fruit in a bit.

Biggest Loser - nope, I only get to see it whenever it is on at the gym - I cancelled my cable about 6-7 months ago because I decided I was wasting my life in front of it ...now I can't say...oooh..I can't go to the gym because such and such is on tv....I DO NOT MISS IT!!! The only calories I drink are my slimfast which I have for breakfast almost every single day...and I consider it a meal as it does keep me full (I know this is not the case for everyone!)...other than that, everything else that I drink is calorie free...I mostly drink Water (I prefer Dasani over tap), hot tea (spiced or vanilla chai, green, or any other interesting flavor), diet coke (the more tea I drink the less I want this these days), Arizone Diet Green Peach Tea...yummy!

Enygirl 01-02-2008 11:49 AM

Hello ladies! I'm here! the party can now start! :D

Actually - I'm not doing much partying - i've had a killer cold since Thursday.. the only good thing about being sick is weight loss. I haven't worked out since THursday - and I'm feeling weak because of it. I tried to do some yoga last night - but when I was in the Downward facing dog pose my nose started to drip... EWWW!!!

My good news - My official weigh in for the week (Sunday 30th) was #187 - my official weigh in for the New Year (1/1) was #185.2 - only #.3 away from my New Years challenge goal! :woohoo:

My goal for this month is to get out of the #180's completely... my plan is to drop into the next 10's every month - If I can do that I'll make my ultimate goal by June - but i'm giving myself until Christmas of this year. I wrote a blog about it if you'd like to read it. :)

flower 01-02-2008 01:19 PM

What is it with the holidays and being sick? It isn't like I did very much either.

I walked for an hour. It was wonderful to get away from my monsters for a little while! I feel recharged.

SunshineRunner 01-02-2008 01:35 PM

ENY!!! I was wondering where you were! You are right, the party can now start!!! Anywho...sorry to hear you are sick...but glad to hear you are hitting your New Years Goal!!! I'm with you...I'd like to just get down into the next 10's every month....it just makes you feel good to say...I'm never going to be 190 again!!! I can't wait to say that about 180!

Went shopping yesterday and got a few items...it was nice and an amazing feeling that everything I picked out to try on fit...seriously...that hasn't been the case in a few years...clothes just weren't made to fit me very well at my start weight....I kinda love it right now...shopping that is...but I can't do too much because it is just a waste of time considering I'm still shrinking!

Well, I'm eating well today and am putting that binge behind me. Lesson well learned...just making me feel poopy for 2 days afterwards is just not worth it!

Glad you got your exercise in Flower - I don't go until about 7:30pm...when I get to workout with the same group of folks (especially since within that group there are some nice looking men that keep me working hard...I know, lame...but they do keep me coming there!!!)

Well, I need to clean bathrooms...joy! Put away most of Christmas last night - tree is still here but ornaments are off it. Wish I could stand to keep it all out longer...but I'm just tired of the clutter...so sad that Christmas feels like clutter to me this year...oh well!

~Amanda
P.S. I signed up for thedailyplate.com - I had tried Fitday.com but didn't like it so never went back...really enjoying the daily plate...hopefully it helps to give me a boost this month!

2Bthinagain 01-02-2008 02:39 PM

Hi Eny !! Hope you feel better soon!

Amanda - do you really like the slim fast? I have figured out my lunch and dinner, but I am working on my calories for breakfast and keep thinking about Slim Fast. I never heard of the daily plate, I need to check that out.

Well, sort of good news here. I braved the scales. I only gained 3.5 over the holidays. By my defination that is Dec 24 thru Jan 1. My DH gained 8 pounds! LOL I thought for sure I'd be up in the 220's if not 230's.
I'm still in the 2-teens. Hee hee.
My goal is also 10 pounds a month.

TTFN

2Fat4myJeans 01-02-2008 04:01 PM

I love The Daily Plate, too! I use it now. I've used fit day and spark people in the past, but daily plate has the most food (including fast food) I think. I was surprised to even find Great Value chicken breasts in their list of food (the wal-mart brand of chicken breasts). Plus it's nice to see a number of how many calories you have left to eat that day instead of trying to subtract it... nice for those lazy math people like myself. :)

So far today has been great. It's off to the gym when I go home!

SunshineRunner 01-02-2008 06:05 PM

2Fat - glad you agree with me on the daily plate - definitely much nicer than the others...also, in FL we have a grocery store that most people up north don't have..and today they had my deli meat in the system when I searched for it - love it!

2Bthin - I love SlimFast - I usually have one for breakfast at 8:30am (I buy the rich chocolate royale in the cans, not the powder) and I keep them in the fridge regularly, but put them in the freezer for an hour before I am going to drink them...that makes them really like a milkshake. For some, they take getting used to...but they provide a lot of good nutrition...5 grams of fiber, low cal, low fat, lots of vitamins...and they keep me full for about 3-4 hours...I usually follow up about 3 hours later with either a Fiber One bar or an all bran snack...just to keep me full until lunch at 2pm.

SunshineRunner 01-02-2008 11:57 PM

Had a wonderful workout ladies!!! 3.7 miles on the elliptical, followed up by some upper body and ab exercises, then 2.5 miles on the treadmill...I do interval training - ended up with 1.5 miles of pure running, 1 mile of fast paced walk...wish I could do 2.5 miles straight running, but I'm just not there yet....oooh..the cute guy was 2 treadmills over from me!!! Yum! Made me work a bit harder :)

Oh...got on the scale once I got home, read 187.8...so not as bad as I thought...but I'm sure the flushing of the system the past 2 days has been a help...since I drink a ton of water at the gym, I am hoping the scale god will lower me down a bit in the morning...hey, a girl can dream right???

Night night!

Enygirl 01-03-2008 07:24 AM

gator - I'm starting to get scared by the scale gods! I weigh myself every day - and write it down - but only count the official on Sunday - well since I've been sick this is what's happened:
Sun - 12/30 - #187
Mon - 12/31 - #186.8
Tue - 1/1 - #185.2
Wed - 1/2 - #184.8
Thur - 1/3 - #182.8

That's almost 5 pounds in 4 days - not too healthy...
I even had my dd get on the scale the last few mornings to make sure that my new scale isn't broken! but every day she weighs between #39.6 and #40.2 (she's almost 6)

I'm still eating at least 1100 cals a day - but this illness is kicking my *** and I'm feeling weaker and weeaker from it. I did manage to do about 10 mins. of pilates last night - but then I couldn't take it anymore - my head felt like it was going to explode!

2Fat4myJeans 01-03-2008 08:17 AM

Good morning everyone! Well I faired very well on my official first day back on the diet...even got to the gym for half an hour...not as quite as long as I'd like, but it's better than nothing! :carrot:

Anyone else get a sugar craving right after dinner? I think this is partially due to lately eating a lot of sweets over the holidays, but also because I think I was raised so that we always had dessert after dinner. I notice my dad does the same thing whenever we're at home. Last night I did just fine - had two reduced fat oreos and I felt satisfied.

flower 01-03-2008 09:20 AM

Oh yes, I desire the sweets after dinner! It is a hard habit to break.

Scale said 188.5 today. I only count Mondays W/I as official though. I don't get on every day but if I am in the kitchen first thing I will.

Eny...I was hungrier during my illness. What is up with that?

SunshineRunner 01-03-2008 11:28 AM

Eny - don't stress about the weight loss...it happened when I was sick last month as well...I dropped like 5lbs. in one week...I don't think any of them came back...if they did, they weren't memorable...just think...even though you are sick...the scale gods are in your favor! Don't overwork yourself..you won't get better any faster that way!

2Fat - I don't normally get sugar cravings after dinner...not too much of a sweet person - however, I did find out about Breyer's Double Churn Fat Free Ice Cream and spotted some this week at Walmart - Cappuccino Chocolate Chunk...all I have to say is OH MY!!! Bestill my heart. It was fabulous, I tried it last night for the first time (only the 1/2 cup serving size too!) and it was absolutely amazing...yum yum yum! I might have a new weakness!

2Bthinagain 01-03-2008 06:10 PM

Amanda - thanks for the slim fast tip. I will pick some up. Congrats on the 3.7 miles !

Eny - I do hope you feel better, though I know it's not the best way to lose weight, I'd take it any way I can. But stay healthy!

2Fat - OMG, I have always craved something chocolate after every meal my entire life !

SunshineRunner 01-03-2008 10:47 PM

Another night, another good workout. I ate really well again today...tons of fruit, 2 Slimfast shakes as I was out of the house and only like to eat real meals sitting down at home....I know, weird...packed in 31 grams of fiber for my day and stayed below the rec. sodium allowance. I like that! Switched from American to Colby Jack cheese and cut my sodium in half!!! Woo hoo!

Still freezing in FL! Yuck! Ready for bed - will check in tomorrow - hope all is well!
P.S. I am really enjoying the daily plate....really gives me a good perspective on what I am eating and what not.

P.S.S. Some of you have noticed, but I did start blogging on 3fc...soooo...maybe an update tomorrow on how I feel.

P.S.S. I'm about to upload another sweet shot I took of myself into my profile...love my face in this shot...besides my fatty cheeks, I'm starting to remember this face!

flower 01-04-2008 08:06 AM

I woke up to a raging headache and my period. Lovely! At least I know where my rotton mood came from yesterday. I made cookies yesterday (I always bake when mad) and I only had 1! And when baby wanted one, I broke one in half and stuck the other half in the cookie jar. Normally I eat his half. Major accomplishment!

flower 01-04-2008 08:07 AM

Love that picture Amanda!

Enygirl 01-04-2008 05:57 PM

isn't TOM so lovely? doesn't make a quiet arrival huh? I'm still feeling crappy... stayed home from work again today. At least my boss understands. I love my job, but it's going to be killer to try to catch up next week. Ugh.

I've taken your advice and I'm not worrying about the weight loss. I think I'll just revamp my goals come Sunday - nothing like a little extra boost to get my butt in gear this new years!

Amanda - I like the new pic! I think I may follow suit when I'm feeling better and take one too. especially now that I'm down about #15 from the first one - like to be able to compare the 2. :)

flower 01-05-2008 03:45 PM

Got a hour walk in. Gotta modivate myself to clean some and then plan a shopping list out. Want to make the boys muffins this week from scratch.

SunshineRunner 01-05-2008 04:59 PM

Scale still isn't moving this week....but I am logging in everything at thedailyplate and I am staying very well on track. I figure it's just gonna be one of those *praying/hoping* short plateaus and it will start moving shortly. It's kind of annoying...but I'm living with it.

Went to farmers market this morning and stocked up on all sorts of fresh fruits. Forgot to get a couple items, but that is nothing new! Strawberries are just coming into season (All Hail the Plant City Strawberry Festival...can't wait to go!! - Flower are you going???) and I bought a pint and they just smell delicious...can't wait to eat some tonight.

Anywho...working out is going well, I just wish my gym was open later on Sat/Sun...I'd go more on those days if it were...but still plan to fit it in tomorrow....was lazy afternoon for me...which reminds me...I need to clean as well...boo hoo...I have just put it off for far too long!

Off to go burn some cals with cleaning!

flower 01-06-2008 09:35 AM

I have never heard of that festival. When? where? I LOVE strawberries!

My old town was flooded in a levee break. {fernley NV} I was mesmerized by the photos and videos on the web yesterday. I got nothing accomplished in the afternoon. Good thing I had already done my walk!

W/I is in the morning. I gotta stay away from salt today and drink more water so I can get the best results possible. :)

Flower - I should've got that advice last night! :) I'm at #184.4 this morning for the official weigh in. I knew that I should have stayed away from the pizza last night... late night binge w/ lots of salt and not nearly enough water yesterday.

I'm going to keep my goals the same instead of changing them. I still can't do a full work out - I'm still not 100%. I need to not push myself right now.

I'm still well on schedule to be out of the #180's by Kickoff of the Super Bowl - I just need to stick with it, take things slowly. and start building back up - I have the Frozen Blueberry walk in 3 weeks!!!

Ugh. I feel like I got nowhere this week. I was on plan...exercised...but didn't lose any. The scale did hit 186 a couple times, but I don't feel like I justifiably lost that weight as it has also said 187. Oh well, I hope I get out of this rut real quick...I guess I'm just used to losing more quickly...and although it doesn't sound that way...I have mentally prepared myself to be patient when times like these arrive...they usually last about 10 days for me...but this one feels like forever. Anywho...just a little "poor me" rant...hope everyone had a great weekend.

Flower - the strawberry festival is in plant city...just google it, they have a good site...has a fair and all the different strawberries that you could ever want to eat. It is in February...lots of concerts...if you like country music.
