  • Good morning to you all! Boy what a day yesterday. I started cramping around noon and ended up taking 3 loritabs by 9 o'clock last night. They didn't take away the pain, but did finally knock me out to sleep. I had some food on Saturday that either constipated me or was highly gassy or both. I told Jack that I am really going to have to watch the food closely. I had a young woman in her early 20's in the room next to me that contracted Crohn's disease while she was pregnant. She couldn't be medicated for it while she was pregnant so it went untreated causing her to lose her entire intestines. She is on a permanent bag of course, and told me to eat bland so I need to take her advice I guess. I sure don't want to go through that again. I am still a bit uncomfortable, but I think it will right itself today. I drank 2 glasses of apple juice last night hoping it would help.

Jean: I have no clue how they decide I am healed up and ready to go back in and reverse it. Maybe they do ultrasound, xray or cat scan again???? We are having a nice bit of warm weather in the 70's here this week. I haven't even been out of the house since Wednesday. Today the nurse comes in and then we need to get a few groceries so I will be out for ahile.

Boy the lady that cut my hair totally butchered it. It looks awful. It is supposed to be spiked like usual, but it is uneven and the only thing it will do is lay flat and I look like someone cut my hair with a bowl. I have to wait until it grows out now to get it cut decent.

I guess I better get up and get Fortune's food mess cleaned up off the floor. He does make quite a mess with it!

    Have a good Monday.

  • Good morning, ladies! Nice day today - expecting 70 degrees tomorrow.

Faye - glad you are doing better. I hope things heal up quickly. I love my doctor. He always takes the time to actually listen and make suggestions knowing my circumstances.

Jean - MRSA is spread more by contact with the person who has it. Most people carry MRSA but don't ever get it into a cut or open sore so have no bad effects. Cleaning schools is not the answer. There's little chance of getting it from touching a desk or doorknob. They were going to make it mandatory that all cases be report to the health department in VA but were overwhelmed when they found out how many cases there actually are. It just wasn't put on the evening news before. The best way to avoid it is to wash hands for at least a full minute then use the antibacterial handcleaner and cover all open cuts or sores, no matter how small, until they are healed.

I have to take Stan for a "stress" test tomorrow. Since he can't walk on a treadmill, they give him the radioactive dye, then another injection that simulates exercise. Test takes 3 hours.

It's supposed to be 71 degrees tomorrow - and 60 today! A bit of warm will be welcome.

I had 2 more severe nosebleeds this morning and 1 yesterday. I couldn't get the second one to stop and I called the doctors office and he said to go to emergency so they could cauterize it. So I went out holding a hand towel over my nose and my neighbor who is a nurse was going for her morning walk and asked me what was wrong. She went back into the house with me, told me to blow my nose once really hard to get the clot out - I did and it stopped! She said that almost always works. The clot keeps the vein open and when you get it out something or other closes up the vein. I have a doctor's appointment on Friday so maybe he'll be able to find something wrong. I'm thinking it might be too dry with the heat on and I need to get a humidifer for the bedroom.

    Have a great day!
  • Good Evening, Flowers! It's been another nice day in my corner of the world although a bit cooler than I would like. At least it is not snowing, raining, nor windy so I won't complain. School was "ho-hum" today and I like it like that. I am subbing in a card club tonight. I did one other time and it ended up being a table of all subs plus the four regulars. I will be curious to see who is there tonight that I might know.

"Gma" -- One thing about a bad hair cut is that it will eventually grow out. I know how aggravating that can be. Does your hair grow fast? I hope you are feeling better tonight!

Susan -- I'm sorry that you've been having nose bleeds. Scary! When you run a humidifier does everything in the room have a damp feeling? Our notice from the school nurse said not to rely on antibacterial soap because overuse does something to the outer layer of skin. I just try to wash my hands really well after using the bathroom and before I eat. I used to do a lot of correcting and now I don't have much contact with students' papers which is good. Enjoy your warmer weather. We set a record here yesterday, but I'm not sure what it was. It was nice outside without a jacket . . . my kind of weather for November!

I need to put Bob's farm clothes in the dryer so better get moving. Have a terrific Tuesday tomorrow!

    Jean -- from Iowa!
  • Good morning everyone! Hope your day is starting out well!

They took my pic line out yesterday so I am done with home nursing unless I have some kind of an emergency. It is good to have one less thing to deal with. The incision and the bag is a long time thing so I have to get used to it.

Susan: Hope the dr can get the situation with the nosebleeds under control. It was a good thing the nurse came out when she did. Saved you a trip to the ER. Hope Stan's stress test goes well. He just lays there and gets exercise! lol Jack was telling me that the one he took where they found the blockage and did the open heart stuff was really claustrophobic. I don't know what the set up was, but he was enclosed in something tight with the treadmill I guess.

Jean: Have fun with your sub card club. I used the squirt antibacterial stuff all the time. I have it on my sink in the kitchen. You do have to be careful because supposedly it kills all germs, good and bad. There is only so much you can do than you have to trust you did your best to keep yourself germ free.

Jack's physical went well. The dr put him on Fosomax for his urinary, but says his prostate is fine this is just to help him a bit. He has carpal tunnel on his left hand and we already know he has bad knees so back he goes in 2 weeks to get xrays and find out what kind of arthritis he has so they can treat him. His knees are in pain all the time, but he just lives with it. Dr says he is pretty sure it isn't rhuematoid, but he want to make sure. It is from the steel decks of the ship he had to walk on all those years.

Well, better go. Jack is up and around and I see Fortune made his usual breakfast mess!

    Faye
  • Good morning, ladies. Stan passed his stress test with flying colors. I was pretty sure they wouldn't find anything because he has never had problems with cholesterol. He has to have his catheter replaced this morning, then go to dialysis. At least he is feeling good.

Faye, poor Jack - my boss suffers with bad knees from years of mountain climbing. They say he's too young for replacement. He has had injections of cox comb that helped a lot.

Jean, I have heard that it's the use of all the antibacterial soaps and cleaners and hand sanitizers that have caused these mutations of bacteria into stuff like MRSA - and people asking for antibiotics when they aren't appropriate for their condition - like things caused by viruses. Glad school has been "quiet" for a few days.

Swamped at work again and playing catch up (boss went to Dallas Monday and then on to Sun Valley, back who knows when).
  • I have heard the same thing about the anti bacterial soaps. I have a pump bottle of them in the bathrooms but thats it. I am glad they now have those wipes at most of the stores for you to wipe the cart handles off with. You never know where people have had their hands. Other than that it is regular soap in this house. A little dirt never hurt anyone lol.
