Oh, that's okay. I like Supercilious--mmm, yes, good one. Although I prefer Cheeky, indubitably.
Good heavens, ellabell, my mother calls people "toots" -- and I remember her father did too.

Sounds like an inside joke to me

I get raves for my chili too, what do you put in yours? I swiped my recipe from Consumer Reports, strangely enough. DD thinks it's the best thing ever. I'm afraid to use non-beef meat, and I can't get away with brown rice either, although DH now prefers jasmine to regular. When I've messed with the recipe or the method, it has not been received well. I did manage to make a chicken casserole with brown rice the other day. That came out really well.

I'm pretty steamed about stupid Imus too. DH and I disagree about how bad it was -- he equates it with other media like rap saying the same thing, but I'm not sure that's relevant. It's been scooped up by people like Sharpton, who I think is an ***, as an opportunity to scream racist. But this is much more degrading to women than it is to African Americans. The fact is, he wouldn't have come up with such a tirade of hateful language if this had been a men's team, no way on earth. Yes, it was racist, but this was hate speech toward women. Same goes for rap lyrics -- frankly I don't think it's that harmful for people to call each names when they are peers. I can call my brother a redneck all day long and no one will care, will they? It's the verbal abuse of women that is the real problem here.

Exactly.

Must be a matter of taste -- I've never liked Imus, but I don't mind Howard Stearns, although I don't appreciate his horndog disgustingness, I still think he's funny. But there's the truth of the matter, he got slapped for his obscene language, but it was "only" sexist for the most part. If he'd said racist things, he might well have been fired too. Why is it okay to demean women?

Go Bagz. You must not have gotten the weather we got if you're thinking of going for a walk! Another foot of heavy wet snow last night.
Did I tell you that I'm going to see Peter Schickley this weekend? Anyone listen to Schickley's Mix on NPR? This is a concert of PDQ Bach and the like. Unfortunately I will be missing DD's Javanese Gamelan concert, which makes me very sad. I feel like I'm betraying my mommy instincts. DH got these tickets as a birthday surprise from our friends in Florida, and he doesn't yet know exactly what he's going to see. I didn't feel like I could tell them we had a conflict and couldn't go, after they'd gone to all that trouble. How is it possible that even good things suck sometimes?
This missive is getting rather long, eh? Later, bovinities.
