  • Nicker, why is it at this point of the school year the students shut down or go on auto pilot? I have my 6th graders a HUGE science fair project that was to be worth 50% of their grade. (to be fair, the assignment was given in october) I had 8 students not bother turning one in and the ones that were turned in the average grade was a D-... My principal saw the grades and told me I wasn't allowed to even add them to the report cards. That pisses me off too... The way I see it, if the kids can't own up and do their best they deserve the F on their report card, but my school is all about appeasing the parents and my principal doesn't want calls from angry parents when students get F's on report cards... What happened to earning grades, not giving grades? I am convinced I have some of the laziest students ever...

The only good thing is I had 5 really good projects that went to the regional fair and of those 5 one of them made it to the state level. (and one of the boys who made it to regional is one of my lower functioning students and getting to regionals was a HUGE success for him )

I have also come to the conclusion that even though my nubmers aren't going down I'm losing inches... I fit into a pair of slacks today that I didn't think I would make it into until the beginning of summer. I'm very excited... Only bad thing is now I have to get a smaller pair of "try on weekly" pants to motivate myself.

Good luck w/ the rest of your grading, and the rest of your week.

  • it can't be spring break yet! Where is everyone?

    Happy Friday!
  • Thanks for the welcome everyone. It has been an OK week for me. Stayed busy as always. OK I read all the posts and would like to say....

Lena - Do not get discouraged. It will come off but sometimes your body just wants to hold on to that weight. My body and I continually argue over this. Do not let your body win the argument. If you keep it up you will win..and feel so good.

Nicker - DO not ever move your ticker up unless you go more than 7 days at the new weight. It is so much easier to lose weight when you stay positive.

Sillyfluff - I have a hard time planning meals too. However, I just found this place called Super Suppers that opened in our area and let me tell you I will be cooking a lot more meals at home. It is a meal prep kitchen where you go in and they have everything cut up for you and a recipe to follow...its hard to explain but I come home with up to 12 meals that I prepared. I put them in the freezer and pull them out whan I am ready to cook them. The food is GREAT. Last night we had Crispy Crusted Tilipia (or something like that-lol). Check it out online not sure of the actual site I just goggle Supper Supers.

Cassri - Wow a cruise I wish I could go...

Everyone: Do not let the ups and downs get you down . This year has been hard for me...I guess maybe because I have less to lose now. The weight is coming off much more slowly. I went 6 weeks without a loss and then I finally (right after TOM) lost like 4 lbs over a three day period. I have lost nothing since and that was 3 weeks ago. I am getting ready for TOM again and am actually looking forward to it. Hoping that I will have another magical weight loss frenzy. What I do and this works for me but everone is different and some people are more sensitive to the scale. I weigh myself everyday of the week. Sometime I weigh 2 lbs more and a couple of times I gained 4 lbs. The key for me is that I only write down the lowest weight loss figure for the week. I write down the figure every Friday (and update my ticker). Becuase of this the figure goes down and I know that if I eat Chinese food I can plan on weighing 2-4 lbs heavier for about three days (but it doesnt bother me bacuse I know why). I also work out 2 times a week and I was doing cardio 3 times a week until about three weeks aga when I took on the homebound student.

    Have a GREAT weekend ladys.

  • It's report card time. I've been staying at school until 9:30 or 10:00. Tonight I went to a hockey game though. First game of the playoffs. My team lost.

Tonia I move my ticker when there is a loss for motivation. If I had to wait until I maintened a weight for 7 days that wouldn't serve the purpose I want it to for me. If I move it down and I have to move it back up well then that gives me a little kick in the pants then doesn't it.

Tired. Need to go to bed. I have to go to school tomorrow and get as much as I can done on those report cards. Tomorrow night is another hockey game. Marks have to be in Monday at 8:00 am.
  • Just got back from the gym and I feel good. I need to focus on getting my cardio in everyweek.

Nicker sorry your team lost...and hope that your report card run smoothly. I guess I didnt explain myself to well on my ticker. I record the down weight immediately but the up weight I wait 7 days to give myself a chance to lose it again. So far I havent moved my ticker up so it works for me...but I realize that everyone has to do what works for them. I wish what I am doing would work for everyone. I would bottle it up or write a book and make millions...lol.

  • Tonia. I like your ticker idea. That makes sense to me. Last week was so frustrating becuase it kept fluctuating back and forth. This week I have made some progress though. I adjusted the ticker this morning

I didn't record the weight from when I got up this morning. That was two pounds lower! I recorded the weight from when I went to the bathroom around the time I usually get up. It was nice to see 190 even if I didn't record it.

My initial easter goal was to be down to 190 but I added another 1.5 loss to that goal a few weeks ago. I hope I hit my goal.

I did learn yesterday that I have lost 1% of body fat since I bought my new scale. That was 4 weeks ago on Wednesday.

Okay report cards NOT getting done. Better get going.
  • Lena,

A few years ago the school I was at was HUGE into science fair. One of my grade 9s was fairly low functioning and he made it to nationals! The principal and I were both schocked. It is great for them when they see success like that. Real ego boost.

    Cassie... You still here?
  • Hey ladies.

    *sigh*
I'm having such a hard time staying on track. I just can't seem to get motivated...The support group at home has sorta fizzled out. I'm not really sure why? I'm under so much stress with school and work I just don't have the energy anymore. I've gotta get the rest of the "junk" outta my house so I can start fresh. We'll see what happens.
  • Hi, all! I'm not a teacher (yet) but I'm an early childhood and elementary education major. I love kids and hope to teach preschool or kindergarten someday....I graduate in spring '09.

I just was excited to see a teacher thread
  • Later... Congrats on reaching your goal... Woo hooo. Welcome to the thread.

Sillyfluff - It is really hard, but I believe in you and I know that you can do it. We just have to keep on taking it one day at a time. What kind of plan are you on? Can I help.

I am an avid calorie counter. Everything I eat gets accounted for whether I like it or not. I find that has really helped me to be aware. With report cards this week I actually find that I a have undereaten the last two days. Yesterday I got in under 70 calories and today I did come in just over 1000 but one thing I ate was a doughnut.
  • Hello everyone! I teach 10th grade English. Right now I'm on Spring Break dutifully reading research papers. It's entertaining... Anyway, it's good to have a thread where others understand.
I'm sad because I have to leave my school at the end of this year. Get this...I have 159 students and NO planning period. To top it off, I have all remedial students. Now I love my school and adore my kids, but I can't do it again. I white knuckeled it this year and gained 50 pounds. I can't take the stress!
