Thumbs up Losing VERY SLOWLY!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not a very happy camper lately, you see my hubby and I started the SB WOE about 5 weeks ago on Aug 27/01 , so far he has lost 20 lbs and me well I go back and forth between 4 lbs lost and 3 lbs gained. Right now I can't tell how much I've lost because our scale has broken (too much weight I guess! ) But it's really starting to get depressing , I thought that I would lose about 10 lbs before Thanksgiving but NO! I've only lost 1 inch off my stomach, just don't get it? But I'm sticking to it. I think that it's good for me. I also go to the gym 5 days a week and workout for about 40 mins, so I think I'm doing all things that I'm suppose to do. I have an appointment with a dietian in Nov, I'll see what she has to say. Please tell me I'm not the only one in this boat

Happy to be here Laura

Hi Laura

Some people do have an easier time losing than others. It's quite common to lose a few pounds then stall for a while. But we are all different and can lose at different rates. I've been following this woe for about 22 months and have lost a total of 40 pounds. The first ten came off easy, then I stalled for quite a while then started losing again. At the moment it is coming off very, very slowly. The good thing about it though is during all this time I have never gained back what I have lost, except for a 2-3 pound fluctuation.

It's great that your hubby is following this woe with you but it can be disheartening when they can lose it so much easier than we can. Are you on any medications? Some medications can slow the metabolism and make it more difficult to lose. How about posting a couple of days of typical menus. Maybe someone will be able to come up with some suggestions of what may help you. Our Moderator Chick DEBELLI is very good at this and I am sure she will be able to advise you. I'm glad you are not thinking of giving up. It is a very healthy woe and it does work.

Why don't you join us on our regular WEEKLY SUPPORT BOARD. When you are in the WEEKLY BOARD and you want to post just hit on NEW REPLY (NOT New Thread). You are more likely to get responses when posting on that board.

Looking forward to seeing you on the other board and glad to see another Canadian joining us.

Marie.

Hi Laura,

Welcome to the boards! With having just 5 weeks on SB, you have to realize that our bodies react to things differently and there may be many factors on why you've TEMPORARILY gained those few pounds. It could be you aren't eating enough, or eating too much, TOM, stress, not drinking enough water or even eating the wrong foods (ie, cheating). Don't look at how your hubby has done, men ALWAYS lose faster than us women. PLUS, it's not so bad to lose slowly-losing slowly means there's more of a chance you'll keep it off. We all want everything NOW, sometimes, things just don't work out that way!

You are exercising, which is good-but on the eating, how do you think you are doing, give it some good thought. Do you journal your food? You may be surprised what you would find out.

As ROSALIE said, please, join us on the regular weekly board-that's where we congregate!

GOOD LUCK!

Debbie

Talking In response to Debelli

Thank you for responing to my thread, here are afew answers to some points that you brought up. I do keep a food journal, I drink aprx 2-3 litres of water a day, I eat LOTS of veggies and I try to eat lots of fruit. You have been on this WOE longer than I
here's an average menu for a day of mine please look at it and see what you think.
Break: Whole wheat toast w/ blueberry sugar-free spread or applesauce, coffe and 2 envelopes of artifical sweetner
Lunch: sliced chicken breast on top of a large salad w/ cucumber, tomatoes, celery, green onions and shredded cheese, italian dressing (little bit of sugar in it)
Snack: apple
Supper: Chicken Loriane (a dish made with chicken breasts baked in the oven, topped w/ sugar-free spagheti sauce and mozzerlla cheese) with broccoli and mushrooms on the side.
Snack: peanuts

So how does my menu look to you? I feel great but the weight and inches are still there that's the only thing holding me back if I could just lose 5 lbs and have my jeans losen on me I'd be VERY happy

I'm 36 and weigh 200 lbs at 5'7
Any input would be greatly appreciated

Without knowing just HOW much chicken, cheese, etc you are eating, it's really hard to say, BUT, if I had to give you my opinion from what I see that you posted, along with your current weight, my guess is that you aren't eating enough.

At your current weight, you'd take in approx 2400 calories to stay that weight, considering you are moderately active, which you are. "Experts" say not to go 500-700 calories BELOW what you are currently taking in (some even say 300), if you do, then your body goes into starvation mode and your metabolism slows down, thus, needing less calories than you are taking in currently because it thinks it's in a famine. So, I would say to you, in my personal opinion, you should be eating approx 1700-1900 calories, and from what you posted, I don't think that's what you're getting daily-which is why you are probably not losing weight.

Can you give me an idea of your caloric intake, % from carbs, fats & proteins? You don't have much fiber that I can see. Also, only calcium I see is from cheese.

Debbie

Talking To Debbie: here's what I eat

I really don't know how to calculate the % of protein and all that so this is what I ate you can't go from there to see if I'm eating too little:
Breakfast: I snack cup of apple sauce, coffee
Lunch: soup bowl full of salad, with a 1/2 chicken breast sliced on top, shredded cheese about 1/4 cup, celery, green onions
Snack: medium size apple
Supper: Chicken Lorriane (dish with chicken breast and spagheti sauce and mozzerlla cheese) I had 1 small chicken breast about the size of my hand, approx, 3 tblsp of spaghti sauce on top and a handful of mozzerrlla, on th side I had steamed broccoli and mushrooms. and a salad, tomato juice Sm glass
Snack: 1/3 c peanuts I know that's too much and I'm cutting down on them.
***********************************************

So how many calories do you think I'm taking in

Good Wednesday to all of you! A quick post, for me down 1lb. and have a new understanding of what the size of clothing means. A let you in on a little secret…it doesn’t mean a thing. I can wear a few 12s, mostly 10s and some 8s. My partner at work wears anything from a 4 to a 10. This was a difficult realization for me.

I hope all of you are well. I haven’t gotten moments breath to even respond since my last post and I’m sorry. I really am trying to keep in touch with all of you, but I haven’t changed my alarm to 5 am yet, still getting up with the kids at night and need every minute of sleep in order to keep away from caffeine and keep my tummy happy. I find my worst habits sneak out when I’m run down.

I’ll try to pop in again at the end of the week.

Have a wonderful birthday, SEF!

Default To all those that have problems with weight loss...

Many of us have problems with food. There are so many gimmicks, lies, stories and programs all directed for one specific goal. Weight loss. Weight loss is not a difficult concept. It simply is reducing caloric intake, either slowly or drastically. All good things in life come with a price. So what is the point of spending tons of money on "quick fixes" all of which never work. QUICK FIXES (*in my opinion*)=TEMPORARY FIXES.

Put it this way, we all have to work, or in my case, go to high school to ensure happiness later on. There are so many stresses in life, financial drains or grief that afflict so many of us daily. So why not vent all our stress and direct it into achieving something that would make us happy. Right now, many are probably lapping this information up, but surely, you have read similar articles to "Aid in changing the mindset of obese individuals"....but its true...face it...the only way to lose weight is to basically stop eating. If you have a severe medical problem with weight, then try liposuction, costly but you need to give up food, or your bank account. What really, is easier? More practical? Natural?

My point : Saying NO to that scrumtiously delicious chocolate carmel covered glistening decadent brownie is saying YES to a better, more perfect you. A thinner being, higher self esteem and all good things that you can get out of life, socially and mentally. When you look at food next time, consider it your enemy. Put all your anger, guilt and shame on the food itself, rather then yourself. It's the food that made you this way, so why not show self control and feel good about it, not dissapointed that you couldn't eat that brownie. After aquiring this mental mindset, you will come back to reality knowing that in this five minutes you have spent looking and hating the food, you actually would have finished that brownie by now...is it worth it?¿ **A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips**

...for those who wish to read on...
Some ideas that have helped me tremendously is finding a piece of jewellery or buying one (IT CANT BE AN ARTICLE YOU WEAR OFTEN, AS IT SIGNIFIES COMFORT, AND FAMILIAR SITUATIONS OF WHICH WE ARE TRYING TO CHANGE AS FAR AS FOOD IS CONCERNED), such as a bracelet or ring. Put it on. Make this new item symbolic of your determination to be thin/thinner. Everytime you eat, take it off, as you cannot wear an object of success while submitting to your weakness/cravings.

I have tons more to say, but as it is, the length of this message is going to scare people away, so I will conclude with one final thought: Food is your enemy.

I am open for discussion, if you wish to contact me, please reply to this thread and I will be notified.
