Okay, don't get me wrong...I don't eat much fast food at all..but, it would be nice to know if there are any "okay" fast food options, just in case. I am a very very busy mommy of 2 young children and am always on the move. Please share some knowledge if you can...
The salads are always a good option - and I think Wendys has great ones. They also have a new fruit salad that looks good. Also, Taco Bell chicken or steak tacos or gorditas. If you have a Chick Fil A, they have great grilled chicken sandwiches, just tell them to hold the mayo. I know how you feel - I have 3 little ones, so sometimes it just can't be helped! Hope this helps!
Hi Sarah...how's it going on the new diet? Marquetho is correct that the salads at Wendy's are wonderful!! Also, I go to Subway and get the carb-friendly wrap. But if McDonald's is your only bet and you don't want to take out a small mortgage to buy a salad (isn't it amazing what they get away with charging??), a double cheeseburger won't kill you. SKIP THE FRIES!! and drink lots of water with it. Point being that the only thing truly off plan on a double cheeseburger is the bun, which is usually flimsy at best, and the only reason it's officially off plan is that it's made with white flour. IF you must have a double cheeseburger, make it your only bread or 'starchy carb' for the day and don't sweat it. When you get home, have an apple to offset it if it makes you happy...and the knowledge that the double cheeseburger isn't as bad as it may seem kinda makes you not crave them as much, don't you think??? I'll always be craving a Big Mac. They are just sooo good!! So, once in a blue moon, I'll scarf one down and realize that it's the big picture and the whole WOE that counts and as long as the scale keeps dropping, that's what matters. That being said, I'd get a few weeks under your belt before you indulge in cheeseburgers or whatever you are eyeing at the fast food joints. This way you have that downhill slope that will run right over the discrepancy. BUT, under no circumstances should you have the ice cream, shakes or fries. Except, of course, during late Feb/early March, you are allowed one small Shamrock Shake...and that's only if you've been good, good, good for a long time!!
<disclaimer - this opinion does not necessarily reflect the opinion(s) of the rest of the board and should only be taken as MY opinion and not the opinion of the Sugar Busters professionals In other words, I could be wrong...>
Thanks guys!
I will take that to heart...I don't eat fast food much, anyway..but there are times where unfortunately it cannot be helped. I try so hard to get my kids to not KNOW what the fast food restaurants are...my niece (at a very very early age) could name each and every one of them..and being that my niece is about 4 yrs older than my son (my oldest), I made it a point to never get that bad about the fast food where your kid could name them all..haha!! I like my tacos..so, the taco bell things will be my big stumbling block. I do like refried beans though..and I noticed that they are on plan?? I will probably be coming back with more questions.
Hmmm, just saw this and thought I'd chime in with my opinion, which is just that, an opinion, applying only to me.
I don't eat at fast food joints at all since I'm having so much success with Sugar Busters! ... for me, it's not about weight loss (though it's been good), it's about how good I feel being off of the sugary stuff (which Sugar Busters helped me to do). So I don't trust fast food joints ... in many cases they inject the meat with additives like dextrose (sugar), etc. ... but if I HAD to have a hamburger because I was starving, I'd just toss the refined white flour bun.
For me, it'd be a better option to carry a small cooler (which I often do as I travel on my job) of acceptible food ... you could do this while just traveling around town doing errands all day ... could put in lite cheeses, fruit, maybe some whole wheat bread and chicken breast that you've cooked yourself so you know what's in it ...
And even if fast food is my only option because I'm not always packin' my own food, I can just stop at a convenience store and get some string cheese and some or a little bottle of skim milk to tide me over ... rather than risking going off plan. I also carry unsweetened applesauce in the little cups and unsweetened soymilk and nuts in my car a lot. If I'm stuck without any of these options, there are always grocery stores where one can find some acceptible food ... it's sometimes faster to do that than go through the drive-through at Mickey D's ...
Again...good good ideas. I have cut up so much fresh produce and fruit. I am psyched about having "dessert" consist of strawberries and melon!! I think, sometimes, it tastes a little sweeter than "sugar stuff"
I am learning the lifestyle..and this is going to be MY lifestyle...so, each day is a new day to learn!!
Baja fresh has an item called side by side. It has a small salad with a few small slices of avacado. Next to that is a large portion of chicken that is grilled and another section holds guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream. I just eat the salad and avacado with the chicken and lots of fresh pico de gallo and a little green sauce. Its great!!
Also if you have a mongolian bbq near you try that. Just don't have the noodles or the rice or any fruits that are not on S.B.
I make sure to pick non-sugar sauces and add some sesame oil also. It is wonderful...and it tastes great!! Lots of vegies...some lean meat...yummm!
I just stumbled across this site when I was looking for recipes on baking with Agave! You have lots of recipes. I've been printing like crazy . Someone earlier wanted to know what agave is. It's nectar from agave plant which looks very similiar to a giant spidery catctus. it's a product of Mexico and from what i understand Tequilla is made from this nectar. It's one of the few natural sweetners safe for diabetics. ( The other is Stevia). Your body absorbs it more slowly than refined sugar, honey etc.. so it doesn't raise your blood sugar rapidly.
Agave taste exactly like sugar but may be sweeter tasting than sugar. I love it in my hot tea! Also it's supposed to be good for baking which i may try today.
You have to go to health food/herbal shops to find this. My sister did find Agave at Tops supermarkets in the Cleveland area but that's the only grocery store i've found it in.
Vesnoid/Vesna you mentioned that you found agave for $2.69 Where did you buy and how many ounces?
I will say also that I have tried Stevia both in powder and liquid form. I like Stevia in Iced tea and also mixed in with fruit. Taste exactly the same as sugar but with no calories! For some reason Stevia taste a little bitter in hot tea. Also I could be wrong but I think if you use too much Stevia there will be an bitter aftertaste.
Has anyone out there tried Baking with agave or stevia? I would like to hear any tips or advice. Especially regarding converting recipes?
Hey ya. I'm new to SB's but I do agree, Wendys do have great salads. I just had their side salad (only 99c!!!!!!!) the other day! I had that and a water. I think also a small chili from Wendys could be okay as well????
Also don't know if you all have them in your area, but Donatos (Pizza Place) here has awesome salads! I usually get their Italian Garden Side Salad which is my ultimate favorite! It has: Italian Garden Side Salad--
Pepperoni, shredded provolone cheese, Roma tomato slices, hot peppers, red onions & roasted red pepper croutons with your choice of dressing
It is a small side salad and just the right size for me. Granted it does have Pepperoni in it, but only a few slices and a few croutons, but I still think all in all, not a bad choice?? This salad only has 4 carbs, 2 g. dietary fiber, 2 g. of sugar, 8 protein and 122 total calories and 9 g. of fat. Donatos also has no dough pizza as well.
