TALITHA: Lunch sounds divine! It made me realize I need to fix something for dinner tonight! Ack! I have a young guy from church coming over...thankfully, he tends to run late, so I have a few hours! :) I am glad your visit went well.

Off to get something done!

techwife 10-27-2005 04:46 PM

Done grocery shopping and got it put away. Got Kyle his winter jacket...earlier than I thought I'd have to...but I got one of those cool ones that you can take out the liner and use it for a fleece jacket. Only $27!! I just LOVE Kohl's!! I also got him some really cozy footie pajamas with Buzz Lightyear. Oh, and then he just had to have a snoopy stuffed animal. I'm such a sucker...

And sometimes I'm just surprised what I come across at the deli counter. I found WW wraps made from stone ground wheat and have 1g of sugar in a half a wrap. I thought they would not only make great sandwiches, but I bet they'd do well as the quickie pizza that's on the front page of the recipe section!

I have a question...does anyone here eat Chinese noodles? My sister in law insisted I take some home with me from San Diego and I read the ingredients and it literally says: Green Beans, peas. That's it. I called my sister in law and asked her if this was a typo and we have a bit of a time understanding each other because she's Philipino. But I did get out of her that some Chinese noodles are made from rice, but some are made from beans. I read on the label that they have 0 sugar and 0 carbs. I'm just wondering what else is in there. MOst of the package is in Chinese! But my sister in law taught me how to make something called 'panset' and I gave it a whirl last night and, although it wasn't as good as Sally's, it was so good I couldn't stop eating it...and I just had the leftovers for dinner tonight!!

So, we were supposed to go to the Preschool fundraiser dinner tonight, but Kyle has been hacking his head off. He had quite a jag in the store today and I was holding him and he goes, "I know...it must be really sad to see me like this...." :lol3: He really does crack me up...like time someone told him he was cute and he says, "Yeah...chicks dig me..." and walked away. I really have him slated to be a comedian when he grows up...

Okay...off to get some grub for the kids, now that I've finished off the panset.

Ellen 10-27-2005 05:02 PM

TECH: Are they cellophane noodles? If so, they are made from Mung beans, and essentially, are legal, though not a really low GI choice. I don't think it would hurt to have them now and then. I love that kind of noodle, and I will eat it occasionally...if I fix something its essential in. :)

THE BIG ORANGE BABE 10-27-2005 07:12 PM

Well, I just thought I was off the hook! The Doc gave me fluit pills to take for a month. BUT...I still have to have the CT PELVIS w/IV CONTRAST!!! He said since there wasn't anything on the Ultra Sound, he wants dig deeper to look around! I guess I should be glad he isn't stopping at the US...
I have to be there at 1:45 p.m. to drink that nasty stuff that makes your DookieHowser like bricks !!! I'll have to really take a good laxative this weekend! I sure don't want to be all plugged up!

I'll let y'all know what happens!

Newbie here!

Hello everyone. I am so excited to have found this forum. I will try to post as much as I can- although life with 2 small kids (and a hubby and fish... LOL) gets in the way a bit. I am from Upstate NY and I got the SB book from the library last week and decided to do it! I have been doing very well, and enjoy it very much so far. I feel more in control than I have in a long time.

A bit more about myself in relation to this forum- I put on a lot of weight (50 lbs) when I had my girls. I lost approx 20 pounds of that and toned up significantly by just upping my exercise, and then joined Weight Watchers. I lost about 10 more on WW, but then got REALLY stuck. For like a year! I had loads of trouble controlling myself with the things they say you can have in small portions- candy cookies etc. All the stuff I craved. So trying to have portion control with that stuff was like torture. I couldn't do it. So here I am. I had been getting so frustrated with my "lack of control" all year until I remembered a friend of mine doing very well with SB a while back. After reading the book it makes perfect snese to me that my problem is the sugar and bad carbs. I eat some, then crave more because of my insulin levels going nuts. Anyhow, I have found SB to be very exciting and I physically feel real good so far this week (been doing it since Sunday). I have 20 more pounds to go to get to the upper range of where WW suggested I should be. So that is my goal.

Thanks for listening- hope to "talk" with you all more soon. This sounds like a great place to be!!!

techwife 10-28-2005 07:39 AM

Munchermom: Welcome aboard!! Upstate NY, eh? Where in Upstate? I'm north...not as in Yonkers, but as in next to Canada. I get that a lot...mostly when my DH is looking for jobs in Monster.com and we type in Northen NY and we get all the jobs in Westchester County (basically just outside NYC). Like...hello...there is a LOT more to NYS than just NYC!!

Ellen 10-28-2005 07:41 AM

Good morning! I am up early. I slept great last night! Its so amazing what a good night's sleep will do for you!

I will be off to meet up with Talitha in a couple hours. Then the rest of the day will be crazy busy getting ready for movie night at the church tonight. It is a potluck too, and we will have a movie for the kids as well.

MUNCH: :welcome3: We are all very glad you are here! Sugarbusters is the healthiest diet out there, in my opinion, and so easy to follow! Congrats on your success so far. Jump right in. I think you will find this a wonderful, supportive group.

BOB: I am glad the doctor is pursuing it. Its best to find out what is causing it and correct it, then just leave it and hope it goes away. Wouldn't you agree? For a laxative, I highly recommend those sugarfree chocolates! :lol3:

GatorGal 10-28-2005 08:50 AM

MuncherMom--welcome! We can be a good support group here, and we talk a lot about dealing with our sugar addiction and how we eat to overcome it.

I am just checking in. I've had a cold and have felt rotten, and we are also leaving this afternoon for the WLOCP in Jacksonville. BOB can explain the letters and their significance for all of those who don't know what WLOCP means. It has something to do with Coctail Party and World's Largest and being outdoors--in the Gator bowl in Jacksonville. ;) Hopefully the Gators will beat the mutts this Saturday, but, sadly, I'm not counting on it. :(

Gotta go.

Ellen 10-28-2005 09:00 AM

Gator failed to mention that MONET can explain it too. That is maybe because she doesn't want MONET to call her team the handbags, or suitcases....

The Georgia/Florida game is traditionally played in the Gator bowl in Jacksonville. There is SO much partying going on, half the fans on both sides end up too schnockered to know who won the game. It is called the WORLD'S LARGEST OUTDOOR COCKTAIL PARTY. My one experience of going to this debauchery was as a freshman at UGA. I sat right in front of the Georgia band. My comrades in arms happened to be my sister, and three of her friends. I was too young to drink, but had a little bit. The couple behind us was a mixed marriage...he was UGA, she was UF. The poor woman was drinking Wild Turkey and too much, probably to dull the pain of the suitcases crushing defeat that year. Anyway, she got horribly drunk, spilled half a bottle of Wild Turkey down the back of one of my comrades, and hopped up to scream, "Go Gators!" at inappropriate times. Lest you think I am slamming UF fans, there were plenty of drunk DAWG fans, but they were in a sea of red and black and NOT swimming among the gators, if you catch my drift. :) Anyway, the experience was so damaging to my gentle psyche, that I never went again. (that, and my sister graduated and I did not have a free ride anymore.) Into this riotousness, our dear GATORGAL and her Gatorguy are going. Ya'all pray for her...but NOT for her team to win. :s:

Ellen 10-28-2005 12:27 PM

I started out to meet Talitha, and called her on her cell from my cell. After our discussion, we agreed to not get together for the sake of my time management and sanity and will try to get together next week instead. Good thing...I went to Costco for desserts and popcorn for tonight, then to Publix for drinks. I just got home! I would have been going crazy if I had driven down to the market. Its 30 to 45 minutes from my house there...and I don't mind the drive...today was just already stressful. I am going to go rustle up some lunch, then knit a bit before I have to head over and begin setting up for tonight.

Where is everyone? I am missing some folks: TONI, COUNTRY - where are you? PANCHO- I know where she is, but I still miss her! FILLISE- ditto.

And to those of you who might even be lurking, like SEF, FRUIT, MELF, and others, let us know how you are!

techwife 10-28-2005 12:38 PM

:encore: You can't imagine the perfectly legal day I'm having today :carrot:

Breakfast...
Oatmeal with walnuts, frozen blueberries, milk and splenda

Lunch...
Ham on half a WW wrap with cheese, cukes, green peppers, lettuce and mustard/mayo. And I had an orange with it.

I'm also taking these vitamins...as per my doctor's advice (which was just about exactly what Monet suggested ;) )

Multivitamin
B complex (which gives me nuclear pee!! )
C
Calcium with D added

I was taking E, but the doctor said that there is a new thought of E that it contributes to heart attacks? So, I decided to finish off the bottle I have (I hate wasting them) and not take any more.

And...I was shopping yesterday and a fit/trim strapping young man checked me out (Not looking at me, he was the cashier...nobody "checks me out" anymore...least not that I know of...except my husband...;) ) and was all impressed that I had whey protien in the cart. He's like, "This yours?" and I'm like, "Yeah...it's mine..." And he asked, "Where did you get it?" and I said, "Over by the pads..." Well...it IS over by the pads with the Atkins stuff, I told him. Anyway, the look on his face was really funny. He must use protien for his 'bulking up' efforts. But obviously doesn't spend a lot of time in the pads section...

Okay...I'm making some decaf Constant Comment...it's that time to put away the crystal light iced tea and make the hot tea.

Kris

Gator/Monet: Have fun with your Dog/Purse battle. :lol3: You guys crack me up!! I save my stress for Sundays with the Bills. And, trust me, being a Bills fan is VERY stressful!! :^:

Munchermom 10-28-2005 01:06 PM

Good morning- whoops- afternoon! Thanx everyone for the warm welcome!!

Tech- I am in Buffalo! Not too far from Canada myself. About a half hour from the falls. I know what ya mean about the NYC thing. Everyone thinks we have never seen a blade of grass before when you say "I live in NY!" LOL!

Just got back from taking my preschooler to her field trip to the local pumpkin farm. Too cute. But the girl that was leading the tour wasn't too educated on what type of things tp present to 3 & 4 yr olds. She started it off with a bang (or should I say scream) when she greeted them all wearing a scary mask. Then after pumpkin painting (which was cute) she proceeded to show off their quite gross "graveyard" setup. The kids were all clinging to the parents, except for a few brave boys who were trying to kick over the "tombstones"! Good for a few laughs anyhow!!

:carrot: I really like this hip-thrusting carrot. Just had to use it for no apparently good reason. I am doing good on plan today so far. What kinds of things does everyone eat when out at restaurants? Not that I have a very busy "eating out" life, but I want to be prepared.

Talk some more later!! Munch(Monet- I liked that!)

techwife 10-28-2005 01:27 PM

Munch: You know that is going to be your nickname from now on  I grew up on the west side of Rochester in the town of Hilton. Now I live in the 1000 Islands...after one too many crying jags going back to Rochester after being on vacation up here. My husband is from Los Angeles and moved to Buffalo in the early 90s...in Cheektowaga. But that was his last life. He told me that he's always wanted to live an a little village he could go fishing in...so I said, 'have I got the place for you!!' and we moved here and have been here since summer 2000. We both met while working at Kodak. Hey, I wouldn't be a true Rochestarian if I hadn't worked there for a little while...I even got laid off from there!! As for NYC...I've never even been there. I don't know why...I just have never had a reason to and it's like...five hours away...and I can think of way more interesting, less dangerous places to go than NYC. My mom went there on her Senior trip (circa 1955) and did her flat-out best to convince us that we'd be mugged and killed if we ever went there. Hence, I get a little jumpy just talking about it. And...I always get miffed because the lotto winners are ALWAYS from NYC.

Anyhow...I finally got dressed at 1pm. I guess I got what my DD got on Monday (or whatever day it was she was home sick). I got a wicked headache and queasy stomach and had to lay down for a while. DS slept till 9:30 and is now a new little boy. He had the more horrible cough and I kept him home again from preschool. We'll reconviene on Monday when he dresses up as Darth Vader. I finally finished alterations on DD's 'dead princess' costume. It needed hemming and a little tightening around the upper torso (she wouldn't let me just stuff her with kleenex). Now I have to make a black cape for Kyle and we're good to go for Monday!!

Okay...talk to you guys later!!

Kris

Ellen 10-28-2005 02:19 PM

Just finished lunch. My neighbor brought hers over and we ate together! :) She is off to pick up her daughter from school and I am chilling for a bit until I need to go to the church to set up. I ought to be knitting...

Not much exciting going on here.

MUNCH: I am glad you like the shortened version of your screen name. :) We tend to do that to speed up the typing. So, Gatorgal turns into Gator, Techwife is Tech, etc. I had a good laugh at the pumpkin patch story. That tour guide was probably used to older kids. I am a teacher, so I find the idea of the girls clinging to mom, and the boys trying to kick over the tombstones kind of funny. I might ought to clarify that a bit. I am an ART teacher, so that makes me weird. :)

TECH: And what are YOU going to dress up as? We have friends who put together an incredibly haunted house each year, and they have invited us to come help this year. I still have no idea what I will wear!

Ok, off to rest. I am getting really sleepy.

THE BIG ORANGE BABE 10-28-2005 05:05 PM
