Well, there's good news and bad news! The good news is -I'm down two pounds! The bad news is-I had a stomach virus over the weekend! I don't recommend this weight loss plan to anyone! Hopefully I can just keep losing weight without help from being sick!
Yippee! I actually lost a "real" pound this week. I lost the 3 that I gained last week while on our trip, and then another on, bringing me even lower. I made a new ticker.
Got my 2 mile walk in already. My DH and I hit the pavement at 7:45 and it was actually not hot out there yet. It is overcast and may rain. MONET--We were watching a golf tournament held in Atlanta, on TV, and saw that it was raining there yesterday too.
Football season is fast approaching and that is the season where the weekends will be "difficult" food-wise. We go to Gainesville for the weekend for each of the home games, and will be going to 3 out of town games, and I am more at the mercy of restaurant menus, etc. I don't want to just eat salad for every meal. We will be travelling out of town to New Orleans and to Charleston (the Univ. S.C. with Spurrier as the head coach of that team). Those two towns are eating meccas, so it should be "interesting." I'm already beginning to think about it.
My tip today is this: if you can't stand store-bought diet salad dressings because of their gelatinous texture, try my lo-cal home made version, that tastes like "real" dressing but is only 33 calories per tablespoon.
Use a Good Seasons salad dressing bottle, the kind that comes with a package of Italian dressing powdered mix attached to the bottle. Pour oil up to the line on the bottle where it says "vinegar." Then pour red wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar half way up to the line where it says "oil." Add the package of italian dressing mix, shake, and then add water so that it comes up to the line that says "vinegar." Voila! Lo-cal "real" Italian salad dressing. Store in the fridge.
Today is my day to study French. I have a lot of homework, and will probably spend most of the day preparing for class tomorrow.
I'm not talking about it today. The weekend was filled with bad eating from start to finish. We didn't eat one meal at home so it was all fast food.
We got my DD moved out into storage. The house is empty and cleaned and ready for the new owner. They will not have to make that trip out there again unless they want to. That was pretty much my whole weekend.
Of course being on my feet for two entire days, my foot it swollen and feels like it will explode. I have a call into the Dr. to see if I can get a shot or something. I have to do something to get back to walking.
Thin, congrats on the 2 lbs but sorry you were sick. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Gator, congrats on your real loss too. I hear you on football weekends. It is so hard with all the good tailgating foods. I'm dreading it too.
BOB, I am praying that you don't lose your job. It is always a nightmare when someone new comes in and starts firing people. Your friend can go on COBRA for 18 months. It is expensive, but at least she will have insurance untils he can find another job.
I was really looking forward to posting a loss this morning, since I had been down to a new low (since surgery and not fasting!) Sunday morning. Unfortunately, we went out to dinner last night after church, and I think we just ate too late. The scale was down a pound from last week, but up three and a half from yesterday morning. I also ate a BLT on whole wheat bread, and had a piece of legal blueberry pie for lunch, so I will see what tomorrow brings!
I was going to go out and walk this morning, but it is raining. Looks like it has been all night. I may go over to Wal Mart or the big mall and walk some later. Right now, I am trying to get James up and moving so I can take him to work. Laura has an old high school friend with her, and I have been teaching the friend to knit, so I want to be around in case she has questions!
Breakfast was a protein, blueberry, water, ff ricotta smoothie, and a cup of espresso with half and half.
As I mentioned, we went out to dinner after church. I got a greek salad with grilled salmon. My salmon was not done in the middle and I had to take it back. The second piece they brought me took them forever, and by the time they brought it out, I was done with my salad, and everyone else was finished eating too. I don't think I will order salmon for a long time...it was not a good experience!
First week back on the wagon has paid off. 3 pounds down from last Monday. See how good ya'll are for me. I just knew I was gonna blow it yesterday. I made homemade pimento spread for the very frist time and it was SO good. Nothing like the store but still really delicious. Two of my children don't like the store kind but said they liked the homemade version.
My best diet tip...hmmmm Don't run away from your support system.
Jack-K...((hugzz)) I'm so sorry that your foot is even more inflamed this morning. I hope the doctors can give you some relief.
Monet...Hopefully tomorrow the water weight will be back off. Down a pound is great though. It looks like some of the new methods you are incorporating into your plan are helping.
Gator...WOO HOO 4 pounds is awesome.
Thin...Hope you are feeling tons better this week.
Time to get my hinney up and get moving. I hope each of you has a fantastic OP week. And if you have to eat something that isn't the greatest that you jump right back OP.
Happy MMM!! I'm down 1.5 lbs. I thought I would be up with the way I was eating (family in from OOT). I'm going to go try to walk. I typically can't do more than 15 min before I have pains start shooting down my leg to my toes. Not fun. I need to get on the ball about that Physical therapy.
I played BOulderdash until 1am with my family. It was so much fun. Anyone care to look up werdrobe? It's a scary one.
I'm sprouting grains to make my first batch of Ezekiel bread. I'm so excited!!
Monet-I can't remember what we decided about the DFM. I'm leaving Wed and back next Tuesday. Care to remind me?
Jack- Sorry about your foot. Pain stinks
Gator- I make a sesamee seed dressing that's really great. I should post it. Where can you get one of those bottles?
Thin- SOrry you were sick. Try to get some rest today!
Jackie--Maybe we can be "football weekend eating buddies" on those tailgating weekends. Actually, the tailgating is not all that hard for me because we bring our own tailgate and invite friends who like to eat good. Example: cold poached salmon with yogurt/cucumber sauce, fresh green salad, hummus and ww pita chips, fresh fruit salad, etc. It's the breakfasts at the inn and going out for dinner after the game, or lunch the day after, or dinner on Friday night. And one weekend we are going to all the festivities for the opening of the new law school building and there are 2 dinners and one cocktail reception. And when there is only one choice of food (eat it or eat nothing) then that is really hard. So we are gonna have to collaborate before each weekend and get our ducks in a row before we go. OK?
Hope you can get your feet straightened out. It's gotta be frustrating no to be able to walk. My feet sometimes ache like crazy, expecially when I don't wear my orthotics, or don't wear my good supporting walking shoes when I'm on my feet for a long time. I get my DH to give me a good food massage, and that helps immensely. Jackie, is it a muscle aching kind of pain, a bone pain, a sharp shooting pain, or what?
Monet--hang in there. My DH is checking on airline tickets for me today, so if I can get a decent flight at a decent price, I'll see ya in September.
Crystle--Congratulations on the 3 pound loss. That's great.
Talitha--Congrats. on the loss. You can get the Good Seasons bottle in any good grocery store in the salad dressing section. They normally have a couple of rows of Good Seasons powdered dressings, and normally have a row of the bottles. They are either in a box with a couple of packages of dressing in there with them, or just plain, with a couple of packages stuck to their side. They are a decent looking bottle for dressing, slightly decorative.

Gator- Congradulations on the weight loss! And thanks for tip on the salad dressing...
Jack-K- I'm so sorry about your foot. Its hard to work all week end and eat out... Hope this week is better for you.
Monet- Happy for you on the loss and hope more comes off tomorrow.....
Country- I'm with you stay where theres support. I'm trying to keep on the boards no matter what..... Wow 3 lbs. what a great loss!!! Woo hoo.....
Talitha- Yippee on the loss gal!!! Can't wait to hear how your bread comes out....
I noticed this morning my back is loads better. I think its because I took two doses (four each!) of ibuprofen yesterday. I am about to take another dose, and keep it feeling better. I guess the anti-inflammatory properties helped with the healing.
JACK: I am glad the moving is done...I hope the doctor can help. Maybe you need to rest it most of all...sit down all night tonight and make everyone wait on you, hand and FOOT.
THIN: That sure is a horrible way to diet! I hope you feel all better now!
TALITHA: We said next week, the 17th? I hope it will work out, but Tom is taking the next two weeks off for vacation, and we want to go camping a few days. If he wants to do some work around here, it will be easy for me to duck out and meet you! I will know more later...but you know me, I am so laid back we can work it however we need to. Is that ok with you?
COUNTRY: Congrats on those pounds! I can't tell you how much I appreciate having you back again! How are your tomatoes? I think I took over 15 pounds to church last night! I bag them up in ziploc bags and and hand them out to everyone. It makes me popular!
GATOR: Keep me posted on the September trip! That would be awesome! Congrats on the loss! I know how hard you work at it, and doesn't it feel GREAT to see success?
MMM...well, good news/bad news. I'm at 160, which after the way I've been eating is very good news. The bad news is that my DH got the results from his bloodwork in and his triglycerides are over 500!!! So, he's going to go on SB with me and is even going to have fish with me for dinner. I was talking with him about getting him up at 6am and riding his bike to the lighthouse every morning and when he's out on the road, he needs to use the weight room that it seems every single hotel has these days. He doesn't like to use them because there is always some schmoe/salesman/ladies man-type guy in there that is showing himself off and my DH can't stand that. But he mentioned being like "old people" and walking in the mall when he's out. So, we're going to be working on getting that number down...waaaaay down. I mean, in the 500's is waaay up there!! Anybody else ever heard of a Triglyceride number that high? My DH has been very dizzy lately and we're wondering if a severely high number like that could contribute to his dizziness. Anyone have any thoughts on that? Yesterday he was nauseous from it.
Monet: Bleh...undercooked fish in never good. Salmon is one of those things that, done right, is sooo good, but can go wrong easily enough. I had salmon in a fancy restaurant on our anniversary and it had this peachy glaze on it and it was simply to-die-for. And I think you should use yesterday's scale reading for today... you have my permission.
Jack: I don't know about you, but I've always thought that moving and Big Mac's go together like Frankie and Annette. I'm not saying you had a Big Mac, but once my brother was helping me move and took me to McD's after and no Big Mac ever tasted so completely fabulous as it did that day. Hit...the...spot. And swollen feet always reminds me of being pregnant. My feet swelled up to the point they looked like a couple of small hams!! If I happened to be wearing shoes and took them off when they were swollen, it looked like I had invisible shoes on and they jiggled like jello when I walked. Completely grossed me out!! The only thing that helped was eventually giving birth...sorry, I don't think that's your answer... I hope your doctor can give you a pill or something...
Gator: Way to go on the loss!! That is fabulous!! Isn't making new tickers fun? We're anxious to get football season going, too. But we're more pro football fans...I'm a tried and true Bills fan and my DH is a Raiders fan. When I was 14, I met Joe Ferguson (the old quarterback in the early 80's). My daughter gets mad when we have the games on and goes to her room...hates every second of it. Which makes my DH like it even more!! My DH is a Bills fan, too...but has been a Raiders fan longer, being he's from CA. And thanks for the salad dressing tip. Yes, some of those diet salad dressings are pretty gross...
Thin: Well, at least there's a silverish lining to you're being sick. Not exactly the preferred way of losing a few, but take it, nonetheless...hope you're feeling better today...
Crystle: 3 pounds!! That is a nice step in the right direction!! And you're right..no running away from your support system. We miss you too much!!
Talitha: What is Ezekiel bread? Sounds complicated. AND...nice loss for you, too!! Why are you needing physical therapy? I'd get on that...you need/deserve to be able to diet properly...the benefits to it far outweigh just weightloss.
And I guess it's time for my dieting tip?: Just because you put a cup and a half of walnuts in your brownie mix for the added Omega 3, doesn't mean they're now healthy!! Does this give you a clue as to my eating habits over the weekend?
BF: 3-4 strawberries, a bunch of grapes and 3 sausage links on George Foreman.
Lunch: will be a strawberry/blueberrie smoothie
Dinner: Tilapia in WW breadcrumbs, sauteed (or, basically fried) in olive oil, sliced tomatoes and probably a salad or something.
Snacks will involve some cheese and triscuits.
Well, I'm really proud of all our losers this week. I'm proud of everyone that's been on plan, actually. Hopefully, I'll be registering a loss this next week, too!! No foolin' around here...with my DH's numbers like that, sticking to plan is now serious business!!
Toni: Hey!! You get the prize for most weight lost this week, I think!! !! Soo awesome!! Good for you!!
TECH: I hate to burst your bubble, but walnuts do NOT have Omega 3s in them...they are high in Omega 6s. Omega 3s are found in cold water fish- like salmon (which I recommend being cooked first!). Tom's triglycerides were horribly high a while back, and the doctor recommended Sugarbusters. That is when I switched to it too. The last time he had them checked, they were really good, but I think his were in the 700's. Mine used to run in the 3 to 4 hundreds before SB too. Working out will help a lot, as will diet. Who knows what was up with Tom...he works out six days a week, and rarely misses. I think cutting down on carbs helped him a lot. He is all excited too, because he has been following a few of the things I am following, like not eating after dinner, and he cut out his oat bran muffin in the morning, cut down on protein and upped his good fats, and the six pack abs he has wanted forever are beginning to show! He HAS the muscle, but just could not get it visible due to the adipose fat over it. He is walking around with this stuck on himself smug look. Its SO cute!
Monet: What are Omegs 6's? I've never heard of that one. Anyhow...I was laughing when we put the walnuts in the brownies (I made them to get rid of the mix...they were buy one get one free at Price Chopper a few months ago...I decided to make them and we all eat them before I go whole-hog on SB starting today...out of sight (or cupboard)...out of mind, right?) and I'm like, 'well, now they're 'healthy brownies!!'...kind of like the peanuts in peanut M&M's adds protien, so they help to offset the insulin spike...or something like that. Or when I ate jelly beans and said...hey, aren't beans a source of protien?? Anyhow...in layman's terms...what exactly is a triglyceride and how does it effect your health? I read about it on the American Heart Association website, but it all sounded bad, bad, bad. I'm sure it is, but I need a human like me to explain it to me. Do you think his Triglycerides being so high is adding to his dizziness? I'm sort of glad this happened to him...he desperately needs to exercise. He spends his whole weekend on the couch and I'm not saying bad things about him or complaining...but he gets into such a funk. He's a really hard worker and if he's not feeling well, I'm all for him taking a nap...but I've always thought If I could get him up an moving without sounding like a nagging wife, he'd feel much better and have a sense of "I accomplished something this weekend" when he goes back to work on Monday. So, hopefully a high number for him will spur him on to get that exercise he needs and get him feeling healthy again and active so he feels like he's living instead of just working and resting...working and resting...
