Smile Ice Cream?

What types of ice cream are acceptable on the plan? Are sugar free or low carb ok? I know Ben and Jerry's has both of these varieties, and was just wondering what the rule was on this? Thanks!

On Sugarbusters, you can have things that are 3 grams of sugar or less per serving. Exceptions include fruits and some veggies that have fructose in them, which is ok. The key is added sugar. Many sugar free ice creams contain sugar alcohols. These are ok, but do be careful when consuming them. They can do quite a number on your digestive system, and cause considerable distress. The more I had them, the worse my reaction became. I avoid them like the plague now.

yeah, i know what you mean... I made a mistake last week and had a whole pint of no sugar added Ben&Jerry's... the sugar alcohol kept me in the bathroom all day. Even though I ate alot of it that one time, now it's better to just avoid it altogether... (i burned off the pint through TaeBo, btw, so please don't worry about me

does the ben & jerry's no sugar have added fat? What makes up for the lack of sugar?

I think it's made with Splenda instead of sugar... I know this because I always check to make sure there's no NutriSweet and free radicals.

But if they use Splenda, then why all the sugar alcohol, one has to wonder...

The sugar alcohols are used a lot in chocolates. They must give a better textured product, since you can hardly find chocolates without them. They may be cheaper too. All I know is I can't tolerate them at all anymore! I have a 1/2 gallon of Blue Bunny NSA ice cream in the freezer that has been there for almost a year. I am afraid of it!
