Hard to get started AGAIN

  • Well, I am back to SB after a very long leave and am heavier than ever. I the interim, I have low-carb only to have a fit and binge on breads after thing got hectic. I like bread too much. SB worked for me once and I am wondering if it will work again. I have 2 kids and a hubby who do not diet with me and the omitting of certain dinner item for me was disgusting. It just made me feel worse. I cannot have this, that or the other. I felt punished.

I started looking through my diet cookbooks and when I found SB, I wondered if I had stumbled on an old friend. Perhaps this will work and all of us can eat the same meals. I know that even thoguh my hubby might eat out for lunch, it cannot hurt him to eat SB for a meal.

What I am wondering is who else out there strayed and then returned. Was it easy? Was it tough to return? Wat was your family's response?
  • Hello; And welcome back. I've strayed and am back to. I know SB is the best way of eating. My family eats what I do but sometimes I add a potato or something to there meal that I don't have. But its a good healthy way of eating for everyone. Yes its hard to get back on board. But we can do it!!!!

  • Im with you

Just wanted to let you know you are not alone . Ive strayed to tried Adkins and was awfully bored with the food but I keep coming back to sugarbusters My husband loves it becaues I cook and the food is good and its not weird But Im going to do this Im leaving for Tx in 3 days we will see how that goes ALWAYS A TEST WE WILL DO THIS
  • Hi there! I agree you can fix SB foods for the whole family. If you feel deprived on Atkins, you are not going to find success on it. SB seems to be so balanced and healthy, how can you go wrong? I have been doing either low carb, or SB now for six years. I have had lapses, but I always come back to SB. My kids are grown, but a few years ago, when two of them were still at home, they complained about the whole grains, but they ate them!

Why don't you come over and join us on the weekly support board? There are a lot of us who post daily over there. There is a new thread each week, and we just post replies in it. It helps us to keep up with each other, and you will find plenty of people to answer any questions you have. Hope to see you there!
  • Lost Website
I recently joined this website and this is my first post, so forgive me if I mess it up! I haven't really started sugarbusters yet, but I got the book and I got some really great information off of one of the links here. I think it was www.prettyimpressivestuff/sugarbusters.com , or something like that. Anyway, I can't get to it now, and I tried it from some of the places I found it on this website. It was a really GREAT website with great practical information. I found it very motivational, and am just sick I can't get back to it. I had printed off some very usefull information, and my husband accidentally threw it away, so I was going to reprint it. Anyone have any ideas???
  • if you do anything to help your weight loss, it's to not eat sugar or white flour... if you can just stick to that, you're pretty close to what sugarbusters suggests. Eat meat, nonfat dairy, whole grains, whole fruit, and plenty of veggies... that's it! If you like food like I do, you should have no trouble sticking to it!
  • Hi there!

Well, I am lucky, in a way, to not have a family to feed. I'm doing this SB thing for just me and a very understanding boyfriend who has (at least at home and when we go out to dinner) changed his diet to accomodate mine. I do know, however, how it feels to start over on SB.

Briefly, I lost 35 lbs. in 3 months on SB in early 2001. I kept the weight off for about a year and slowly, let it all creep back, and then some. When I was 50 lbs lighter, I thought I still needed to lose weight and didn't fully appreciate what I'd accomplished. That was a mistake! Oh, if I knew then what I know now, right?

Anyway, the amazing thing is, even though a couple of years have passed, shopping, reading labels, and preparing healthy food all came back to me like I'd never stopped. I feel so comfortable and happy with my food choices now. Of course all the overeating and eating whatever the **** I wanted to between then and now left me feeling pretty empty, down on myself and emotionally downtrodden. It's like a breath of fresh air to allow myself to eat healthy and take care of me. I guess my point is, it's like riding a bicycle.

Advice I've received from other SBers is to buy the latest edition of the book and re-read it. There are some changes from the old edition, plus it's in paperback now. I have done that. I've been back to this WOE for two weeks tomorrow, and I've lost 8 lbs. (I know it's water, who are we kidding? but I'll take what I can get!)

I'm sorry I can't help with the issue about feeding your family. Try not to think about it as "punishment" when you don't eat certain things that your family eats. You're definitely rewarding yourself when you make the healthiest choice for you. Best of luck to you!
