Hey, all. Just popping in.. I've been legal today, but I've had tooooooo much to eat. UGH! I've got to do better tomorrow. Has anyone had shin splints from walking? I walked around Bonita(a lake that is in our town park). It totals 1.25 miles for each lap around. I did 3 laps in 45 minutes. But you walk on concrete. My shins and the front of my ankle by my foot have been killing me. It's bone, not muscle that hurts. I guess the concrete is so hard it doesn't allow for any of the shock to be absorbed? Dunno. I still got my 4 mile WATP tape in today though. Tomorrow is my exercise class. If only I can get this eating under control, I'd do okay. Alright, gotta go...
|
I guess I should have mentioned that I did the walking around Bonita yesterday NOT today...
|
Good Morning! Yesterday was half and half for me...I was good in some ways, and then caved and ate some Cheetos! I think that was my only cheat, which is getting better for me!
HEART: Walking on the concrete is most likely what caused your shin splints. Especially if you are not used to it. My daughter suffered with shin splints from running on the sidewalks and roads when she was doing cross country. They never would improve, and now she has femular patella syndrome, which is a constant pain in the knees and is not supposed to walk up stairs more than once or twice a day. If you can skip the concrete and walk in grass, you probably would not have any problems. MELF: I hope you feel better soon. TEENSY: I am so excited! My cucumber plants, green beans and squash are all poking their tiny heads up out of the ground! I even have one cherry tomato forming on a rather small tomato plant! :) Can't wait for the garden! I hope the party is a great success! Do you need more chocolate yet? Wouldn't you rather snack on it than popcorn??? |
Heart--Yes, I've suffered with shin splints over the years. I used to run a ton of miles every week, and because my foot pronates, I would suffer quite a lot with them then. Pronation is when your foot tends to roll over on its arch instead of staying level on the floor. I got orthotics which helped a lot. I still had to do the ice routine, followed by heat every time I went out to run. I don't run any more because I have had knee surgery and don't want to go through that again. I get shin splints now when I walk, but it is telling me that my shoes need replacing because the shock absorbtion in the soles is shot. So, I go buy a new pair of shoes and, voilą, the shin splints go away. It is sometimes hard to walk on grass, but you might try it to see if it alleviates your problem. If not, invest in a high quality running shoe, yes RUNNING shoe, for walking. Go to a store where all the runners in your town go, not Just for Feet or Foot Locker, but a good running specialty store. They can determine what kind of shoe is best for your foot, as there are differences in the brands. They will watch your gait, look at your old shoes, etc. You might also try some Dr. Scholls "orthotics", and maybe they'd help, before going to see your podiatrist for customized orthotics, which cost about $300. Good luck.
Got my 2 mile walk in today, but walked a lot slower. Did it in 40 minutes, which is my slow 3 mph pace. Had wheat chex and strawberries for BF. Am meeting a friend for lunch. She is taking me to a French restaurant. Might have salmon over a salad. My washing machine drain backed up this morning and I ended up with water all over the floor in the Laundry room. So, the plumber is coming this afternoon to, hopefully, fix the problem. Good thing it happened before I left. My DH doesn't like to stay home waiting on the service people. |
Good Morning everyone:
I just finished my Cheerios w/ Uncle Sam & blueberries. I am going to go to Whole Foods today and stock up on some stuff, and then to Costco to return a bag of the Almonds they recalled, even though we've eaten half the bag already. I am going to stay OP today again. I caught the last 15 minutes of The Swan last night; oh my gosh! I can't believe the transformations some of them made. They are planning a second season of The Swan. I just hope someone doesn't die going under the knife while on that show. They do some EXTENSIVE surgery! The local news channel ran a story about plastic surgery that goes wrong, and it was scary. They actually talked to the surgeon who did my breast reduction on T.V. Apparently, a lot of the people who had a "messed" up surgery ended up going to him to fix it. They actually showed a woman who had a breast implant that starting falling through the breast; the tissue was disintegrating, and the implant was coming through, not to mention a bunch of other mess-ups. I guess that industry is not very closely followed or regulated. Some MD's can take a course and then go cut someone up without even being licensed. I'm so glad I did all the research that I did before going in to have my BR. This is Britt's last week of school, and then that willpower has got to kick in full-time!! I think if I exercise everyday that I can (even if it is a 20-minute Pilates tape at home) I will be able to overcome some of that boredom eating. It sets my mind in the right place. Teensy: Don't feel bad about the popcorn; that is one of those foods still on the fence. Although I cut back, I never gave up popcorn during my few months on Atkins and my last year on SB. I always allowed myself about a cup of it when I wanted, and it never once stalled my weight loss. I remember seeing losses the day after eating it the night before while watching t.v. Good luck with the party; I am sure it will be a lot of fun. I hope your DH is surprised. I hope your weather gets better. I don't remember there being a lot of challenges since I've been on the board, so I'm not sure how to start. Did Deb always post them or did you all take turns, or how did it work exactly? heart: Are your walking shoes in good condition? I just read an article the other day claiming that worn out or poor quality shoes are the #1 reason for shin splints. It's worth investing in a good quality running shoe for walking or jogging. Hope everyone has a great OP day. Take care, Nat |
Good Tuesday morning,
Yesterday was totally OP. It is helping trying to have things prepared by my DD to keep her on track. We are planning meals and snacks. Tonight I will go to the store and stock up on things for her. I have made deal with her that for every 10 pounds she loses, I will buy her something. Hope that is some motivation for her. Got up this morning and did 1 mile on the TM. Will do some floor exercises tonight too. Quivondra, I guess if you have to choose, the store is usually a once a week thing so you can pick the gym the other days. Melf, so sorry to hear you have been feeling so bad. Hopig yo feel better for your trip. So neat that you will get to visit with the SB girls. Thanks for the update on Rose. Heart, I think we need to sit down and have a good long talk with ourselves. My DD has started so I am planning and cooking for her so that has help motivate me some. We just have to decide what we want most, to lose wt or those cookies. Hoping you find your motivation again soon. walking too fast can cause shin splints. Only cure is to let them rest or walk thru them in pain. It only lasts a couple days. Gator, good job on the walking. I need to get a pedometer and count my steps. Hope you get your washer fixed before you leave. What a nice mess to have. Nat, all we can do is take one day at a time, even an hour at a time. Keeping busy helps. Teensy, Hope you pull off the big surprise. It is hard to do sometimes. I will say I was totally surprised on my 50th. We need some nice weather too. All it has done is rain. Monet, I love CHeetos. A co-worker has been eating them at lunch all week. So far I have resisted having some. You can do it. Lets try to come up with a good challenge for next week. Throw out some ideas. Will try to get back, but I am busy doing payroll. Jackie |
Howdy ya'll!
What a wonderful idea to have the challenge again. Since deciding to eat better last week eating has been pretty dang good. *smile* Exercise is still not where it should be. I am seriously lacking the motivation. My new sleeping schedule gets me up too late in the mornings and some afternoons I'm just pooped. But I'm working on it. Yesterday I got in a 30 minute walk and was able to week for an hour.
Jack-K...sounds like a plan Stan. When you and I are both working hard it seems to keep me on track. :) It's always good to have a diet buddy I think. I know this isn't a diet but I can't think of anything else to call a diet buddy...LOL Awesome your daughter is going to do it with you. Heart...don't beat yourself up. You may not be to goal yet..but you are looking good and working out regular. Poncho...you are doing great. I don't think you need to worry about hitting 122. You'll be back down before you know it. If you were to keep a contant 122 with a few upward swings it would be different. It will be gone before you know it. Monet...yeah on the garden. Our tomatoes came in thick this year. We are thinking about starting a second set since these are starting to brown. They are so loaded with fruit the branches are touching the ground. Our cukes are not doing well at all. Last year we had more than we could eat. Not sure what went wrong this year. Gator...enjoy your trip. You will be missed. Can't wait to hear all about it. I was taking a walk the other day and there were tons of beautiful black and blue butterflies..I thought of you and your butterflies. Teensy...at least you enjoyed the popcorn. What's bad is when you eat something and say why did I do that it didn't even taste good. :) Deb...hang in there. Of course your family comes first. We love you no matter how often you get to come to the board. I hope ya'll have a fantastic time on your trip. (((Melf))) So sorry you haven't been feeling well. ((Sef)) Praying your shoulder gets better soon. Quivondra...just knowing your need to get your act together is the first step. Many of us are at that place. Maybe you can do some little five minutes exercises around your house before you go to bed or when you first get up. Love and hugs to everyone. I gotta scoot. Crystle |
Hey, guys. Shin splints...I have a new pair of New Balance running shoes, so that's not the problem. I believe it was a combo of the concrete and the fast pace I was going. They're still bothering me today, but it hasn't stopped me. Hubby had the nerve to tell me that it couldn't be shin splints, that I was overreacting. Um, hello, I know what I'm feeling. I told him whatever, go to work...this was at 6 am. I think I'll stick to my workouts at home and the church for awhile and avoid the concrete. Anyway, I'm doing good today with my eating. I had a large peach and Carb freedom yogurt for breakfast. Had a small leftover chicken breast for snack. Lunch was a big hamburger patty topped with cheese, onion, mustard, and low carb ketchup. Had a veggie salad with it(lettuce, grape tomatoes, green onions, cucumbers, Ranch dressing). So I'm pretty comfortable. I'll probably eat a spoon of PB and have a cup of milk before I go workout. Supper is on the fattening side. Taco salad minus the chips. So it will have hamburger meat, cheese, salsa, sour cream, lettuce, and refried beans(that's why I didn't have any bread with my hamburger at lunch). Anyway, not much going on today. The only thing I've done today is a little workout this morning(3 mile WATP), go tan, and clean, watch tv, and eat. That pretty much sums it up,lol. Talk to you all later..have a good SBering day!

Been a so so day here. just wanted to say hi. Thanks for all the "Get well" wishes. Really appreciate you guys.
Even though I haven't had much of an appetite I seem to want to put something in my mouth & it's not all be leagal. I've just had to consider the diarrhea in what I eat not to make it worse. Any suggestions other than brooth & jello? Can't seem to think like a nurse when I'm feeling this bad. LOL |
HiedeeHo All!
Was so busy and tired yesterday just didn't get here. Choir did special music for Music Apreciation Day. Certificates for the memebrs of the choirs, orchestra, string quartet. Then special ones for people like me as Music Secretary, etc. The Director gave little gifts to the specials, for me Cucumber & Melon shower gel and body lotion from the Bath store. Then it was also PW recognition time, so the minister announced the officers and asked us to stand. I am the Hisatorian. After church there was a PW luncheon. When I got home a friend from choir said I bought the wrong computer package. Since my son took off for Argentina yesterday, Glenn took me to exchange computer. By the time we got home I was tired. Set down to do crossword and fell asleep. It was 8:45p when I woke up, 3 1/2 hours I zonked out! Oh, did I say I was not OP at the luncheon? I say it now with shame. Busy day. Went to the NH in the morning, then had therapy, then to store. I started this yesterday. Today went to a NH to entertain and then WalMart. I'm very pleased with my range of motion, just not the pain when I do it. Think I pushed a little too hard so am not a happy camper at the moment. Am looking forward to seeing Mary again. I hope she is feeling better by Friday. Not fun to travel feeling miserable. MELF: Try yogurt with live cultures. Antibiotics can cause diarhea. We used to give it to our patients as they frequently suffered from all the meds they were on. Can't hurt. I have an 8:30a appt with surgeon, he's just down the street. Will probably be about 1-2 hrs. Sometimes they are slow, other times right on the button. Hopwe you feel better. By the time I read and type I have sat here long enough, Take care, Shirley |
MELF: Apple juice, applesauce, saltine crackers, broth, jello, rice, boiled chicken. I also have read in a herb and natural remedy book that carob is very good for diarrhea. Hope you feel better soon.
SEF: Its so good to see you back on here again. I hope the pain diminishes quickly, and you are back up to full speed ahead soon. It was a wild day...my son's roommate passed out at work, so I took her to the doctor, and spent most of the day there with her. She had a virus and became dehydrated. They had to hook her up to an IV to get some fluids in her. I took her home, tucked her into bed, and got home just in time to finish dinner for my small group meeting here tonight. Thank the Lord for Laura, who cleaned for me while I was gone, or there would not have been a clean surface to serve dinner on! Seriously! The house was a disaster! She did a fabulous job! Small group went well, and now I am exhausted! I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow afternoon to get my lab results. Time to tuck myself into bed! Night! |
Good evening gang. Busy day today, but I think I got it all done. I even went to my Mom's and got his gift from all of us wrapped. Remembered to get his card from me and also one from the gang. We also have two other birthdays this week, so I got cards for them also. I ordered him some hunting knives from Cabela's. And I will give those to him on Friday, his actual birthday. From my family, we all went together and got him a camouflage hunting jacket from Cabela's. This man should be one hundred percent ready to hunt this year!! So he better get his deer!!
Got my hair cut, and it is shorter than I have had my hair in 24 years. But I really like it. It is still in the flippy, messy style.....just shorter. My hair grows really fast, so I get it trimmed every 4 to 6 weeks. Seems like it is perfect, then overnight it needs trimmed. It is raining like crazy right now. Sure hope it get done with. The 5 day forecast says Saturday is supposed to be warmer and sunny. Please, please, oh please!! Monet-- You know what? I stuck the chocolate in the freezer, and I forgot it was there! I did endulge in some tonight since I opened the door and caught sight of it. I have only eaten one bar......guess you can tell I am hording it!! Thanks for the offer, but I am okay for now. I am still waiting for that special gift that says "Ellen" to jump out at me. I do so want to find you something special that you will really like. (Just my way of saying Thank You for being such a great friend!) Guess I will just keep looking. So far everything we planted except the squash has come up. We have the tomato plants, but haven't gotten them in the ground yet. It is pouring rain now, so doubt if I will be able to get them in tomorrow. I am with you, I can't wait for fresh vegetables. Yum!! Gator-- 3 mph hour is about all I can manage climbing the hill I have to go up! I would sure like to be able to go faster, but..... Even my dog is a panting by the time we get to the top!! Pancho--I heard about the almond recall. I buy the Kirkland Peanuts and Mixed Nuts. But haven't bought any almonds. Deb used to post a challenge on Mondays when she would start the weekly board.Things like 3 days of exercise, getting atleast 64 oz of water. Posting one full days menu.......NOT weighing for a week! Things like that. Jack-k-- I have help from my SIL which has been a great. She is doing an awful lot towards this. I go to town and pick stuff up, then drop it off at her house before coming home, so there isn't a thing here to give it away. The one thing I keep holding my breath on is his sister's......one is pretty gabby, and the other one is a bit senile. I can just picture them calling to get directions, or just to say they got their invitation, or....... It is funny, because Bill, my son said I should probably put the dictionary's definition of SURPRISE next to word on the invitation. I thought that was pretty funny. It is suposed to to sunny here on Saturday. I sure hope so. I am with you guys on the challenges. Monday would be a great day to start this because I will say that I am planning on having a piece of the cake we ordered for dh. I haven't even done that on my birthday!! Country-- What happened to your walking partner? You and she were tearing up the roads!! Laurie-- I know what you are talking about......when I haven't walked for awhile the front part of my leg, between the foot and ankle aches like he**. I walk on asphalt, and it is uphill to start with, but really seemed to ache going faster down the hill. I don't know what shin splints are, so don't know if that is what we are experiencing or not. I just thought it was from using muscles that hadn't been used in a while. Melf-- How about some yogurt?? I don't know if that is a good suggestion or not?? Sef-- I hope you will be pain free soon. Here is that Cod recipe that you wanted. Cod Marsala 1/3 c WW flour 1/4 t salt 2 T olive oil 1 T butter 1 1/2 pounds Cod, or substitute fillets, 6 oz each, skin removed, cut in half crosswise 2/3 c Marsala wine 1/3 c snipped fresh parsley 1/8 t dried oregano leaves In shallow dish, combine flour and salt. Dredge fillets in flour mixture to coat. In 12" skillet, heat oil and butter over medium heat until butter is melted. Add fillets. Fry for 4-8 minutes, or until golden brown, turning once. Add Marsala, parsley, and oregano to fish in skillet. Cook for 2 to 4 minutes, or until sauce is reduced by half, spooning sauce over fish frequently during cooking. Serve fish with sauce. Per serving; Calories: 380, Protein: 33g, Carbohydrate: 13g, Fat: 16g, Cholesterol: 116mg, Sodium: 293mg, Exchanges: 1/2 starch, 4 1/2 lean meat, 1/3 fruit, 1 1/2 fat. This was really good. I will definitely be fixing it again. Hope you enjoy it. Well, that's all folks...... |
PANCHO: Tell me about this almond recall? I have a half bag of Kirkland almonds in the freezer...my last bag had some bugs in the almonds, and I am a little leary of the new bag.

Good WIW morning
Hi everyone! Just a quick note before I run outside to do some work.
Weighed in at 213 this morning, not horrible. I think I may be in a losing inches phase. I went shopping last night for some shorts and could actually shop in the Misses dept! 2 prs of shorts and 2 tank tops, all from Misses!! Woohoo! size 16 even, I'm feeling pretty good about that. Down 5 sizes since last May. Eating has been a hit or miss thing. I manage to do well during the day, but when I get home, sometimes something bad just calls my name. And I have to get some SF ice cream in the house(that's my big weakness right now). I have been getting to the gym 2 nights a week, it's the at-home cardio that I've been lacking, although I have been walking for work quite a bit, and SCUBA class on Sat has been pretty draining...I guess it all sort of equals out. The board had been so slow, and I've only had time to read posts, but haven't had time to post. And I know I'm not getting enough water lately... Got to get out of here and hope that I don't get rained on today. have a good one everyone! Barbara 270/213/135 |
Happy WIW
Hope the scale is good to everyone today. It was up for me, but down since Monday. I am working hard at it right now so hopefully next WIW will be better. It's been a OP week so far and I intend to keep it that way. Was eaxhausted when I got home last night. got through dinner and forced myself to workout with some floor exercises. Then I hit the couch until bed time. Does anyone watch 24 on Tuesday nights? It is an awesome show. Country, WTG with your eating. Yes, we do better when we motivate each other. The exercise will come. Heart, youmight try some ice on those shin splints. Resting them is the best though. Your taco salad sounds good. Might have to try it. Sef, I'm glad they appreciate al the hard work you do. That was a nice gift. Don't push yourself. Melf, feel better soon. How about applesauce? Monet, you are such a sweet person. Hope yo don't catch that virus though. Teensy, DH will have no excuses now not to get a dear. Be he wishes it were that easy. My DH has all the hunting gear you could ever need, but he is always looking at more stuff. Woodfrogs, congrats on betting into the misses sizes. that is such a good feeling. Sounds like you are getting lots of exercise to me. Have a great day. I should be back later. Jackie |
