Introduce myself!

  • Hi all! I'm new to this board, but not to SB. I first tried it about two years ago. I managed to lose about 10 lbs, then allowed myself to get sucked back into old habits. Roughly a year later I tried again and lost about 5 lbs. My dad and stepmom have been doing it for a couple of years now and have maintained significant weight loss. I'm proud of them, and I want to acheive the same success. I recognize several factors as to why I haven't succeeded, but some part of me is unwilling to do what is necessary to change things. Part of what is attractive about SB is there is not as strict an adherence to calories or carb counting, etc. I know the books give some general guidelines on portion control and that I should follow them, but I have a really hard time with it. I've gotten to where I enjoy most legal foods, but I can't seem to feel satisfied unless I eat a ton of it. I think a lot has to do with years of eating big meals on a regular basis. I grew up having gigantic full course meals every night, but being forbidden to snack. Anyway, I could point out all day long the contributing factors to my weight gain/weight stall. I guess I need some tips/advice about how to get out of this rut. I'm currently 5'7" and 185. My goals are pretty loose. I just want to look and feel better. My healthy weight range is 149-129 according to most sources. I think I'd be comfortable in the high end of that range. I've also been exercising since October. About 20-30 minutes of cardio and 10-15 minutes of light strength training 3-4 times a week. Not all that aggressive, but I can tell a difference. Anyway, hopefully this will give you guys some background. I will try posting some menus and stuff in the coming weeks for your critque.
    Thanks!
  • Hi Sienna1
We post on the weekly support board for the current week. You'll find everyone over there. Just hit "reply" and post your message.

It seems like your off to a great start with the exercising.
Have you gone through detox from the sugar? If you are in the first month of SB then you do tend to eat large portions of legal foods. It's like your mind is compensating for the missing sugar. Try eating 4 or 5 small meals instead of 3 big ones. The trick is to never be hungry. Eat some nuts or cheese. Have a piece of fruit. Eventually your portions will shrink.
